I started about 3 weeks into Season 2 (computer was busted) and now can’t progress any further than the first tier of emerald. Most matches end with doubles digits for my teams.
Read his post history from oldest to newest. You can see him going a little insane after each post until he finally breaks.
No I’m peaceful now. It’s blissful really, this little place with just a sliver of light shining through the crack and when I peer through I can see a beautiful green glade filled with daisies and deer and bunny rabbits hoppy to and fro. So calm and peaceful and warm. The nurses are all so nice to me even though sometimes I get upset and break things so they come along with their needles and hold me down and then they out the heavenly liquid into me and I’m calm again.
When it floods through me I go into a deep sleep but just before I drift off I can hear them say “What’s a bunker Ele?”. Then off I go into the sleepy land where dreams and light and only nice soft things exist.
When I wake up I’m happy again and they let me use the computer to email my friends and the doctor but what they don’t know is I installed GW2 on it so i take the tablets and then I go and play some ranked PvP. It’s so much nicer now because everything is perfect and every match perfect and I don’t look at the score and I have the sound turned off but I’m sure I’m winning every match and will be competing in the Pro League once they let me out of here. But I can hear them coming so I have to go now.
The PvP population is at an all time high and thanks to leagues is growing every day. Most matches are enjoyable because of that with a nice blend of classes on each team. There’s a noticeable difference between unranked and ranked matches, it’s nice knowing your ranked teammates will have a good handle on their class and know the maps as well as communicate with their team. Unranked matches due to their nature can match you with players who have only a rudimentary knowledge of competitive play so Leagues it’s a refreshing experience to say the least.
Queue times are almost non existent now mostly due to the high PvP population, so I generally never wait more than a minute and usually end up with a balanced team and opponents that are matched perfectly to my skill level. Rarely does a match end with anything more than a 50 point difference, and most matches have nail biting conclusions within a 10 point range. It makes PvP all the more enjoyable, and I can see why droves of new and veteran players are returning to compete in ranked leagues.
I have to congratulate the ArenaNet team for an outstanding job on Season 2. There were some minor issues in Season 1 but they seem to have been ironed out completely in this current season. If you enjoy PvP and have been holding off playing ranked matches I urge you to try them out. You’ll encounter a growing community of helpful skilled players who will help you hone your skills and perfect your build, and the recently tweaked matchmaking system will pit you against foes you’ll find challenging but not overwhelming to battle against. Ranked play has made me fall in love with PvP again.
All in all this season has been a joy to fans of competitive play, and has really put GW2 on the map in the eSports community. I dare say ArenaNet will have an influx of new users itching to try out the game for the competitive play alone.
Really looking forward to Season 3, I’m not sure if there’s anything the developers can improve on but I’m sure they have plans in store to make Seasin 3 even more exciting and enjoyable.
There’s nothing wrong with matchmaking it’s perfect.
Honestly I don’t see the issue, out of my last 100 games I only lost 2, and I don’t do anything other than auto attack and sometimes dodge. I was in Legendary in the first 3 days.
You have to be really bad or not auto attacking to not win.
Yeah I purposely lose matches too, it’s fun to see your teammates rage and get upset because they lost 2 pips and got smacked back a tier.
Honestly though until ArenaNet releases the MMR code like every other pro e-sports game their PvP seasons will continue to be a joke.
I would looooooooooove if they fixed their stupid pvp chit.
Cool, you wrote all that out just to convince yourself of something you know is wrong.
But to be more constructive Anet should focus less on MMR crap for matching and more on getting decent mix of professions on each team. At the moment the matchmaking system is pants on head kittened and shows none of the devs ever set foot in PvP arenas.
>if you get bad matchmaking do this
>BUT SERIOUSLY IT’S NOT MATCHMAKING THAT’S THE PROBLEM
Try solo queuing sometime buddy and see how far your advice gets you.
I’ll be honest this is a tongue in cheek post. MMR is broken, ArenaNet know about it, they’re unwilling to do anything about it. I seriously doubt anything will change for Season 2. ArenaNet won’t publically acknowledge the issues, and I highly doubt their developers are even capable of fixing it (considering they couldn’t implement correctly in the first place).
The biggest joke of all is while this is happening their their paying customers, they’re STILL offering $200k for e-Sports competition. The irony is astounding.
Just a quick message to let you all know Season 2 will include the ability to show per-character MMR for ranked sPvP. I think this is a great decision on ArenaNet’s behalf and shows they are really listening to the community and not hiding anything. Transparency is key when it comes to competitive play, so this is a step in the right direction.
Thank you for listening ArenaNet.
EDIT: Also just found out group and solo queues will be separate! Woohoo!
(edited by steppres.9046)
I can confirm this. Thing is, it’s totally dependant on the profession you’re playing.
If I queue with my Mesmer or Elementalist, I get easy wins, REALLY easy wins. Like I can sit back and do nothing and my team will stomp the other side. If I queue with my Thief or Engineer, exact opposite. It doesn’t change. I can lose match after match and I will still get paired with awful, horrible teams who have no idea what to do (which is the exact opposite on how MMR should work).
This isn’t me being salty, I can honestly say I’m average, but I’m no worse or better playing Mesmer or Elementalist than I am playing Engineer or Thief. It’s like night and day and my win/loss ratio shows that on the various professions. Over 15 consecutive losses on one profession, I log in as another and I get 5 wins in a row. It’s insane.
I know people are going to say the common factor in this is me, but I it just doesn’t make sense. If I’m worse at one profession, shouldn’t I be getting matched with higher skilled teammates? It’s the exact opposite, and it’s really noticeable. Most teams I get matched with on my Mesmer understand the basic mechanics of their class, what to do in a map. Teams on my Engineer are running around is all directions not knowing what to do.
Fix your kitten ArenaNet, it’s embarrassing. Make our MMR viewable, because I have literally no faith in your ability to implement it properly. If the system is fair and effective then there is no reason why a player shouldn’t be able to see exactly how they are rated. My guess is ArenaNet knows there are issues and have no idea how to fix them without making things worse.
I have multiple characters and PvP is completely different on each other them. Some have a about a 50/50 win/loss ratio. I get paired with decent teammates and matches are usually close. Other characters have a higher win rate, I my team tends to stomp the enemy. And on yet another character I’ll have a drastically higher loss rate. My teammates don’t know the map, can’t hold points, don’t understand objectives etc etc.
It’s an issue, it’s an obvious issue for the people experiencing it. It makes PvP really tiresome and unfair whether it’s in your favor or at your expense.

It’s unfortunate, a friend of mine who is an exceptional PvPer in RIFT was looking for a new game to try. I was going to recommend GW2, but after this League mess I considered otherwise. It’s honestly a massive joke and leads me to believe the developers have no clue how to turn PvP into something even halfway decent.
I agree ArenaNet should nerf thief by removing their ability to queue in sPvP.
>Hai guize I’m gonna cap far lmao this is a de-cap build lololol
Anet hasn’t forgotten about solo queuers, we’re used as bait to allow team queues to pop quicker and also to farm us.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE MATCH UP SYSTEM ARENANET KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING DON’T QUESTION THEM EVER AGAIN
But seriously yeah it’s complete crap.
Why kind of sissy, thin-skinned player blocks people anyway?
>He disagreed with me so I blocked him, that’ll show him!
HELP! MMR IS COMPLETE CRAP!
Obviously MMR is broken, it doesn’t work.
And whats wrong with it?
Most random guild teams will consist of mixed division players. Which will basicly be an easy pip farm for any regular pvp team. Without using extremes and without taking classes/setups in to consideration ill put this in an example.
Team A: mixed casual guild group with a mix of 3 sapphires, 1 ruby and 1 diamond player.
Team B: set team that plays toghether with 5 diamond level players. The system will see them as equal. Result = uneven matchup and easy pip gain for team B.
The only fair system is a system like we see in wow. Based on individual mmr /div vs the opposing teams mmr/div.
This is the lazy way out.
You do realize that division doesnt matter right? Its not like..hey that guy is diamond, he will one shot whole team due to +1000000000000stats. Its not how it works at all. Time to end such exploits as this one in pic. If thats a problem you can always go unranked and que there together really.
Seems like someone is salty about being beaten by a ranger…
(no I’m just kidding, sorry xD)
That’s more an example of team composition at work (judging by meta builds). Red team has a good balance with a bunch of hybrid damage and a solo-que Tempest (which 9 times out of 10 carries anti-projectile/reflect). Blue team has at least 3 projectile-heavy members for their main damage, and much less teamwide boon support, as well as lacking soft CC and condi damage. Plus you got more than 100 points, which is not exactly a blowout…
Do you always pretend to know what you’re talking about or is it just online? Literally your entire post was garbage and complete crap.
I honestly believe SoloQers were allowed only as fillers to reduce queue time.
Looking at league design it’s clear that it was intended only for structured teams hence e-sports, problem is that the solo team approach was tried before and failed due to waiting times so the solution was to allow fillers and lure them in with a nice pair of wings. The results SoloQers being farmed for division climbing and lots of angry people on the forums.
lol arenanet honestly think gw2 will be the next dota2
have any of your actually watched the championship matches? theyre boring as kitten, generally e-sports is usually excited to watch but the gw2 championships are worse than watching paint dry
Just a thread for everyone to voice their opinions on how terrible Ranked PvP is and what a horrid, ramshackle, slapshot job ArenaNet did implementing it. I realize the front page of the forum is completely full of threads about the topic but I decided we needed a more generalized thread to allow us to voice our concerns in a meaningful and community-minded manner.
Also lets use this thread to really drive home the point that Solo Queuing needs to be completely separate from group queuing. Even though ArenaNet have fantastic heroic people like Gaile scouring Facebook and Twitch for comments they seem to have missed the fact that anyone forced to endure Solo Queuing this season agrees it needs to change dramatically, notably, be separate from group queues.
You can also use this thread to rant. In fact I highly recommend you do.
Realistically ArenaNet should replace the entire League idea with an honor system. Each player enters in the amount of ranked games they would have probably played, whether they were grouped or not then hit a button and the ArenaNet servers randomly calculates your performance for the season. That’s basically what the system is now except it requires you to sit through pointless matches with completely mismatched teams.
>While this system helps ensure that your matches are always as competitive as possible, it does mean that it’s also more difficult to get to the division where you actually belong based on your skill.
BLAH BLAH BLAH SEASON 2 WILL BE EQUALLY OR PROBABLY MORE BROKEN GAAAAAAAAAAILE. GAAAAAAAAILE THANK YOU FOR SITTING ON TWITCH AND FACEBOOK READING OUR COMMENTS WHILE STUFFING YOUR FACE WITH CHEESY POOFS, YOU’RE A TRUE HERO.
(edited by steppres.9046)
Wow thanks Gaile! It’s so nice to know you guys are really going to make such amazing changes for the upcoming season! Hopefully Season 2 will just be a mess and not a completely absurd disaster like Season 1 is! So pumped!
Also I have an idea, maybe you could do something like test it out before you release it onto the public servers? Like a “play test” (or you could call it something else). I’ve heard real companies like Blizzard and EA do something like that, so maybe ArenaNet could try and do it too? Cool!
Does anyone know if ArenaNet is working on fixing how WvW server matching works? I’m currently on Sea of Sorrows, no one even bothers to enter WvW anymore. Even organized groups are stomped by massive blobs that seem to populate the other servers 24/7. It makes joinng WvW unenjoyable and pointless.
I want to participate in WvW, but right now it’s impossible and frustrating. I’d really love a genuine response about this. It’s a problem, and it’s only getting worse every week. An official response regarding this from a moderator or developer would be fantastic.
For the most part, WvW is broken. Obviously other servers will disagree but the fact of the matter is at least one third of your game population is getting shafted by the way matching it operates.
Is there a way some kind of mercenary system could be implemented? A way people from other servers can join an opposing server when their’s is full? Even an incentive to do so, like bonus EXP or whatever?
