Just wanted to report another area that’s still having the issue, the JP at Shama’s Rookery. I saw the lighting problem here before, but it was just outside the JP and ended once you got inside the cave. Now it seems to have spread inside as well.

Edit to add it makes it really hard to see the AOE rings around the ravens when you’re trying to do the JP.

Last night I finished the Jumping puzzle which is not a jumping puzzle but a gliding puzzle. Had a good time doing it but no because was a fun puzzle but because I was doing it with some guildies. The puzzle is not “fun” cos you don’t know where your next step should be. Gliding blindly around rocks hoping to find a spot to land is not fun. The old puzzles are much better. The one in Mistlock Observatory is much more fun even if it’s (too) easy and small.
I really love jumping puzzles, especially the hard ones but this one is just meh.

Can I also add onto this that there were several parts of the JP that were frustrating, not because they were hard but because it felt like a stroke of luck that you would “catch” on the rock or slab that you had to land on and stick.

They were either slightly too high or slightly to close to the wall and I felt more like I was randomly flailing around and hoping I didn’t fall rather then making a calculated jump to get to a hard place.

The end result was rather then having fun with a challenging puzzle and feeling like I accomplished something I just felt relieved that it was over with and I wouldn’t have to do it again.

I felt the same way about this. Funnily enough, while completing it – someone in the same instance mockingly regarded it as “Glide & Slide”.

These are the reasons why I deplore jumping puzzles in this game: the collision boxes on the geometry used fight against the controls and there’s no intuitive way to know that what you see is what you get. Either the collision geometry needs to be improved to real platformer quality or GW2 needs to stop pretending that it’s good at doing what’s done well in actual platformers.

This exactly. The JP design itself was amazing (I loved wandering around in the center of a volcano it felt fun and dangerous), but once I got to the actual jumping part it was little more then endless frustration and annoyance.

It’s the same problem I had with all the jumping and gliding in the HoT maps. I hated taking a risk that the platform I was trying to hit wouldn’t actually be there and I would fall right through, or the slope that looked like I should be able to land on it had me slide right off to my death. There were parts of the JP that had me landing on rock sides that looked like it should have been too steep to hold me and had I not used a guide I would have never known I should go there.

There’s no real good way to know what areas will hold you and which will slide you right off of them and with a JP that requires checkpoints because it’s so long and difficult that makes it really really frustrating rather then challenging. People can say what they will about the Aetherblade or Clocktower JPs, but at least it was better telegraphed which platforms would hold you.

Also the camera is a huge problem. Again it’s not fun to try and make tiny specific jumps on uncertain platforms while having to look through the back of your head.

Just wanted to add my own report that I’ve been experiencing this problem as well in multiple areas. And yeah I do agree it seems to be getting worse.

The first time I ran into it was at one of the Shiverpeak JPs (the one near the hot spring skill point, has the ravens that will knock you into a pit of skelk). It made the entrance to it insane bright though the actual inside was okay. That was all I ever saw of it. Now it seems to be in any cave or area that should have darker shadows.

Lets meet half way: Raiders Vs Casuals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

I think the first option is actually a really good idea. It’s not just the lore either that would be attractive. Maybe someone wants to experience bits and pieces of the encounter without having to put in the time and effort that the raid would require? Maybe they want to fight the bosses, get to see first hand what the raid looks like (watching over my gf’s shoulder as she plays the raid looks really pretty and visually interesting), get to experience the fights even if it’s just a shadow of the original content.

Raiders can have the loot and the bragging rights to say they did the hard stuff and those that don’t want to or, for whatever reason, can’t raid can still get some of the experience and feel like they’re getting what they paid for with the expansion. And who knows maybe someone who does the story version of the raid may feel more confident to try the full raid afterwards.

If it would be possible for ANet to implement without wasting too many resources to do so then I really don’t see any downside to it.

I play this game as an escape, and to avoid the politics.

Being gay isn’t a political issue? Carry on

That can depend on where you live. In recent years there have been a lot of laws changed to allow same sex marriage, and amendments to the laws that cove marriage to cover same sex marriage. Your are right that bing gay is not a political issue, but I has been made into one in some parts of the world.

Your last statement is correct. Being gay is not a political issue. Fighting bigots for our rights is the issue. Unfortunately “I don’t want politics in my game” is often code for “I want to complain about how gay people have the audacity to exist but I don’t want people to call me out for the bigot that I am.”

And for the record we would love to shut up about how we’re gay and proud. We would love to not need pride parades and flags and what not. But until homosexuality isn’t met with violence and hatred that’s not going to happen. Until one transgender NPC in LA doesn’t cause people to whine about “SJWs” shoving “PC” culture down their throats we don’t have much of a choice.

There is only one little bug in that JP and that’s the big Snowballs dissapearing after the present jumping part. However.. you also have skritt throwing snowballs. ( see red circle aoe’s on the ground)
Those are your jump indicators and after these dissapear you can usually continue your glorious jumps without problems.

If you fail to finish for other reasons you are simply doing it wrong ^^

I call BS on that. I’ve had more than one instance where the snowflake platform were either invisible or broken down visually, while they were not actually.

The gifts to run up on sometimes fail to render in time or don’t show their blowing up animation so you randomly get knocked away.

Tbh, the whole puzzle is a mess. But if you run it enough times you can cope with it.

I only saw the bugs you mention once and this was when my internet connection was crappy. This might also be the case for you. Everything in the JP is on timers so if you have a little delay this might affect the visuals.. other than that I’ve had no problems so far.

While poor internet connection certainly isn’t going to help the puzzle itself is just buggy. I’ve been doing the JP pretty much non stop living in a constant peppermint scented hell and I’ve encountered everything that was mentioned. I’ve been hit by invisible snowballs, had presents randomly disappear under my feet for no good reason, had snowflakes glitch out on me, I had a present that was next to the present I was on disappear and cause my character to trip up and fall over. And I know my internet connection is solid.

The JP itself isn’t that hard for me personally, but with the bugs it becomes extremely frustrating and I can understand where someone who already has issues with JPs for one reason or another would find it next to impossible.

This was just botched. The fact that you can’t even get INTO the JP half the time should be enough indication that it was botched.

I’m having a problem with text and graphics overall becoming blurry when playing on 64bit client. Anyone got a clue what would fix this?

I am having the same issues, text and graphics are blurry and not as sharp as the 32 bit version. Has anyone found na a fix for this? I’ve added the exe in nvidia setting and all but it’s still blurry (I have everything in max settings)

Having the same problem as well. Everything seemed to run fine except there was this weird low quality blur to everything. I looked at my settings and when I auto detected graphic settings it set everything to a lower quality by default. I set everything to max as well but it still didn’t fix the issue either.

We’ve been doing that, but as others have pointed out while the aggressive smokescales will spawn without fail the pet ones wont’ no matter how many times the event is done or what tier the map is at. Every time I check that area now I’m seeing rangers camping at the spawn area, some of them the same ones I’ve seen before and nobody is having any luck.

I’ve been on that map when it’s tier 2-3 as was said. I’ve sat around waiting for an hour, hour and a half (I heard they’re supposed to spawn at night, but I don’t think the day/night cycles take that long…). I had a guild mate help me clear out those Chak things…. the Smokescale enemies spawned back in the area, but the juvenile ones never did. I’ve sent in a ticket thinking there might be a problem with them, but haven’t heard back though if there’s something you have to do that I’m missing then I would be most grateful to have it explained.

I know the rpers in GW2 are there, but I also know how hard it is to set yourself up with a group, hopefully we can help with that.

This guild has also been amazing with teaching the basics of game play and everyone is very patient while you’re learning (and I needed a ton of learning when I first started out xD ). It’s a nice and relaxed atmosphere with no pressure. <3

Just because the topic of a story in and of itself is depressing doesn’t mean having the entire tone and the entire narrative be that way is a good idea. Agony and anguish get old real fast if you have to much of it which is why even the darkest and most bleakest games have moments of brevity. Moments that allow the player to breath, have a good laugh, and recenter before going back into the dark stuff.

If they didn’t have those comedic moments, those hopeful moments, those happy moments then at best people would get bored of the constant doom and gloom and at worst the game would just end up making them feel bad and give few incentives to keep going.

Not to mention it’s the good moments that give the bad more impact. If all your moments are negative or depressing it all starts to lose its flavor.

The thing is though that the theme of this IS dark. Were on a rescue mission from the beggining. Im 100% sure wel see some of the old comedy come back. But that will be once we have a foothold. This isn’t the part of the story where people joke around as there fighting monsters. Its the part where there hoping theres someone left to joke with when its over.

I doubt the entire expansion will be like that. But the beggining? That initial experience? Hell yeah. What there doing fits there story perfectly.

I haven’t seen much for HoT (trying to avoid most of it so I can play blind when it comes out). Just warning of the dangers in thinking that just because something is a dark premise that that’s all there has to be to it and you can never have anything else and putting any comedy or light hearted moments in the dark spaces somehow ruins it or isn’t appropriate. It’s a trap people tend to fall into very very easily.

Hell I would even argue that it’s in the most torn and miserable times that people are most desperate to find and cling to any shred of happiness they can.

Every time I see a topic like this, it reminds me of the studies that showed women who talk for 30% to 50% of a discussion are perceived as completely dominating the conversation. This is one game out of the plethora of games out there that doesn’t act like the traditional 13-25 year old straight white male is its only audience and makes an effort to show traditionally underrepresented groups in positions of power. I promise, we can handle seeing the traditional script of 1 woman to 4 men flipped. It’s the same reason why Sailor Moon and Tyler Perry are successful.

I’m wary of threads like these because they are usually couched as arguments for equality when really what ends up argued is that minorities do not deserve to have the spotlight. Because that’s “pandering”. But when we pander to the straight males all the time it’s not pandering just… the natural state of things.

I’m so sorry, but because you make logical sense and refute most of the arguments in this thread with said logic you’re going to get completely ignored and they’re not even going to bother reading it let alone trying to reply to it.

My condolences.

I not only read kimeekat’s post. I +1’d it. And yes: as far as I could tell, its right on all points.

The genders actually are balanced. But people perceive this wrongly because of their own ways of seeing the world. And claims of wanting balance are really being used as a proxy for a desire to not lose privilege.

The problem isn’t with the people who agree with it already reading it, it’s with the people who would argue against it either reading it and ignoring it or not reading it because ’lolz SJW" as has already been admitted.

Fact is this argument has been done before and it didn’t get anywhere then either. It’s already been stated there are plenty of games that feature an almost exclusivly male cast with one token female love interest. It’s already been stated that forced romances aren’t unique to queer relationships and most movies and games have them in spades. Nothing new is being said and as far as I can tell nothing new is being learned.

Some of you want more male characters and hetero relationships? There’s a whole sea of them to pick from. Go to a gamestore, blindfold yourself, throw a dart. Chances are very good you’ll hit a game with either one or both of those requirements. Or an employee.

Otherwise let me have my one out of very few games with more noticable female heros and queer relationships thank you very much.

Because that’s “pandering”. But when we pander to the straight males all the time it’s not pandering just… the natural state of things. Asking for a completely even 50-50 representation of genders is just another way of giving them a quota they have to fill without thinking of the plot and context of the game itself and industry as a whole.

I want to shower a thousand hugs and thank yous upon Anet for not accepting that as an acceptable cookie cutter template for storytelling.

1) Destiny’s Edge had Logan and Jennah as their main couple. Their romantic relationship causes a huge schism in the group and though the relationship is pre-game (Ghosts of Ascalon), its effects are arguably more plot-important what with people dying because of it and that ripping the entire group apart. There is a gay sylvari couple in a sylvari personal story arc, as mentioned upthread. I’m also partial to the Canach/Kasmeer dynamic but I realize that’s not canon. There’s also Elli and Zott although we all know how tragically that ends. Cries for days. We know Rox lost her mate in an accident and when we met Braham he was pining after Ottilia. But I’m sure there are a thousand excuses about why those magically don’t count as heterosexual representation. “They don’t have enough screen time” “They’re one sided” so are most relationships in game besides Marjory and Kasmeer. Even Caithe and Faolain are one sided now, enemies (at least on Caithe’s end) since the start of the personal story and only romantic in flashbacks. Good, imo. I want the relationships to be secondary fuel to the A-plot, which they are. I don’t want to play a soap opera mmo.

2) I fixed your list for you. Since you counted Anise, Jennah, the Pale Tree and Kiel, I’ve added Laranthir, Magnus, Aerin, Master of Peace, Phlunt and Faren. Hero Tron also has a male VA but I don’t want to get wrapped up in arguing gendered robotics. The ratio is more like 13 to 12 and less like 13 to 6. We’ll skip the two male bosses now immortalized as end bosses in Fractals, the male bosses in TA Aetherpath, the even split of Mai Trin and Horrik, the male family angst of the Mad King and Prince Thorn etc, I suppose.

Females: Eir, Zojja, Caithe, Taimi, Marjory, Kasmeer, Rox, Anise, Jennah, Pale Tree, Faolain, Scarlet, Kiel.

Males: Rytlock, Logan, Trahearn, Laranthir, Braham, Canach, Evon, Magnus, Aerin, Master of Peace, Phlunt, Faren.

3) I consider Rox and Braham to have a bromance going on, though Rox identifies female. It seems pretty clearly platonic. Not to mention Laranthir and Trahearne’s actual bromance going on in the Pact. There’s also the entirety of the Halloween plot being a father and son story. Also.. Rytlock and Logan? Tending to their delicate feelings and bromance is most of the primary plot for the personal story. I also think you’ll be getting more character development from Braham in HoT, considering his mother is MIA and from the preview of the first instance we’ve seen in the betas, we know that has lit a huge fire under his kitten . He’s also becoming more responsible as a sort of care taker to Taimi.

I’d prefer they focus on making armor of the same set more on par between males and females and offering those choices to Asura and Charr, if we really want to have a practical discussion about gender equality within the game and within the context of the industry at large. There’s nothing progressive about coding butterflies (on carapace armor) and bikini armor for girls when boys deserve those things, too. But I suspect that for some reason this is immune to the “balance” discussion because of reasons.

I’m so sorry, but because you make logical sense and refute most of the arguments in this thread with said logic you’re going to get completely ignored and they’re not even going to bother reading it let alone trying to reply to it.

My condolences.

There’s a difference between going afk in a pretty area and having something to do that doesn’t take up a bunch of your attention. One continues to keep you active in the game even if it’s in a lesser sense. Think of anything like match 3 games or solitaire. Or just the way fishing works in Minecraft where you just have to watch for the splashes in the water and press a button. It requires just enough focus to play, but if you space out while talking to your guild not much is lost.

Fishing would give people something to do without demanding to much of their attention (like farming a map where you have to pay attention to combat or you can get swarmed) and I think it would help with in general player bordem. Not to mention those sorts of things tend to be more stress free because of the simple hard to fail nature of it. It’s frustrating when you get in a bad SW map or the event you’re trying to do fails because people aren’t paying attention.

Of course I just absolutly love any fishing mechanic in games so I would be all for it no matter what >.>

I’ll tell you right now you’re not gonna get much help on the forums when it comes to issues with dungeons and the community surrounding them.

Even the better people of the community are far to quick to circle the wagons for any kind of healthy introspection and you’ll either get a range of responses from people telling you how aweful and toxic this community is (which isn’t fully true there are some good and helpful people and by far and large my experience with dungeons personally has been mostly positive) or telling you there’s nothing wrong with the community at all and it has to be all your fault for daring to watch cut scenes in the story dungeon (not explorable, story). Which also, is not fully true (my experience isn’t everyones and there are enough complaints of people being kicked for frivilous or non reasons that I have trouble seeing how it isn’t a problem).

Your best bet are to either just prepare yourself to be kicked now and again (because making your own LFG isn’t going to guarantee anything no matter how specific you are in the description) or find a good guild or group of friends to run dungeons with.

muttering under her breath Filthy casuals….

But no seriously…. as cliche and overused and whatever as it is… if you want a game that’s more ‘hardcore’ or challenging then well… play another game that’s more hardcore or challenging.

As someone who, even though she has a ton of time to play, doesn’t like putting that much effort into an mmo I’m glad there’s one that gives me all the cool items and cool equipment and a sense of having a really awesome character without the hassle of dedicating my life to mastering the game as I would my job. I’m happy that GW2 allows me to either grind out the gold, materials, what have you for the really awesome stuff; or open my wallet and get it all the same if I don’t want to bother with it.

There’s nothing wrong with them being concerned with casuals and making decisions based around a casual market. The whole argument kinda feels like, to me, someone playing Portal and complaining that there aren’t enough bad guys to shoot.

Of course that being said I also don’t see anything wrong with them adding in more difficult content for those who want it, and rewards to fit. I just don’t feel it should be the main market.

Let me rephrase, i don’t mind that the game being attractive to casuals, as someone who doesnt have a legendary yet after playing for 2 years and still doesnt have spare gold farmed to craft it yet. I’m also still just at over 5k AP so i get the whole casual thing. What i don’t like is the entire game seemingly built around casuals especially when it comes to the reward system.

These days i have zero interest in pve, doing hearts is so boring and I really don’t get anything from it. I’m still at 74% map completion. I miss games like runescape where there is a real fear of death on quests (probably because you lose quite a bit when you die), you walk through a spooky mansion and you feel like you are going to get a heart attack. I think a really decent penalty for death (maybe not inventory) would be good for the game because combat is skill based.

Take runes of magic, even though you don’t lose stuff when you die, soloing quests was actually pretty dangerous when i played it and forget about soloing dungeons.

Now i dont even represent a guild and have no interest in going back to one. I don’t need commendations, logging in gives you laurels now and pvp gives me gold so i just keep playing then get accessories when i need them, which isn’t very often now.

I log in, its straight to pvp i can get everything through that. I get a lot of stuff that just sits in my inventory, my ascended rings i dont need, mats just sit in bank, excess just take up space in my bags. Its gotten to the point where winning or losing makes no difference.

If Anet wants to appeal to both casuals and harcore players i can think of many ways of doing this.

Your problem is that you want hardcore play out of a casual game. And this won’t happen. This game was designed entirely to be different. And if you’re not ok with that, that’s fine, it just means theres a better game out there suited for what you want.

^ this right here.

Look I get it. It’s frustrating when a game that has concepts or ideas you really like also has concepts and ideas that just aren’t fun and engaging for you. It’s frustrating when a game you really want to love just doesn’t measure up to what would keep you playing for any period of time. We’ve all been there and bought the t-shirt.

But you can’t bite into an apple and complain that it doesn’t taste like an orange.

You know what though? If you have ideas to make the game more challenging that WOULDN’T interfere with the casual nature of game play (aka no death runs back to my body or monetary/exp/item penalties outside of having to WP, no open world PVP areas, no random dolyaks dropping from the sky and squishing me etc etc) then by all means suggest them! Rally for them, you have my blessing and if they’re good I hope ANet listens.

But don’t come onto the forums and expect to be taken seriously when you want to change what the appeal of GW2 is to begin with. Instead do yourself a huge favor and find a game that you’ll actually enjoy and will inspire you to play. You’ll be much happier if every update isn’t an uphill battle.

I agree with OP. These things should at the very least be put on gem store for one week. It would have been better if this was a legendary backpiece and had some particle effect. Honestly sometimes i wish gw2 would take off the training wheels when it comes to content, and cater to people who want a real sense of reward exclusivity for playing:

Different Legendary armor acquired from world bosses and dungeon drops that allows you to pick stats equivalent to ascended and also unlocks a unique skill, nothing over powered.

Legendary backpieces that allow you to do stuff like gliding, active bursts in movement speed.

If Anet finally manages to really improve the AI, they could do some next level stuff with this game but noooo, they are concerned with casuals.

Of course that being said I also don’t see anything wrong with them adding in more difficult content for those who want it, and rewards to fit. I just don’t feel it should be the main market.

New Black Feathered Wing Backpack!

When it first arrives yes we will be in a sea of black feathers. Over time they’ll thin out, however, especially as new shinies come along.

I really love the wings and if I can find an alt they look right on, I’ll be sporting them. I usually have my back invisible, however, except when I’m wearing armor it suits.

What strikes me with these is that if ever there was a backpiece in need of at least two dye channels, it’s these. Let people use barred owl or macaw or peregrine themes (yeah, the wing shape isn’t right, I know). If you’ve read the Sharon Shinn Angels books (which are actually science fiction, btw, and slightly on the romance side without being mindless bodice rippers), the wings in those books tend to shade from one color to another and ooooooh no other fiction has made me want a winged character quite so much.

OMG yes please that would be amazing <3<3<3 I would love to see the outfits people would come up with if they had two dye slots to work with.

As an aside one of the down sides of playing an MMO is you have to deal with other people’s sense of fashion. But just like with larger backpacks like the spinal blades I’m sure people aren’t going to even notice them after they stop being new and shiny (as others before me have said). They’ll become just another particle effect, just another backpack, just another character like every other fashion item in this game.

I mean really how many times do people ACTUALLY notice stuff like that? When you’re in a massive crowd doing the world bosses or in a city and there are bright colors and weird shapes everywhere anyway? Some lone person wandering around Caledon that runs by you and is gone before you can blink?

[Question] Why not Fishing?

I would love fishing, it’s always a welcome addition to games for me and often times becomes the activity I go to when everything else has gotten stale and boring (of course then again I just like fishing in general).

Not to mention, as was said, it could add something new to the crafting professions with a way to get fish meat, scales, bones and such. Maybe things like eyes and organs for artificers?

Honestly there are times I might be on a lot more then I already am if I could just sit and fish for hours.

Honestly who cares if everyone and their mother will be running around with them? I know I won’t because I’ll be to busy enjoying how amazing and awesome my character is going to look with them \o/

Though white ones would be really nice as well <3

Pushy Guild Representation - Right or Wrong?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

When I joined a guild that was 100% rep I was a little hesitant about it at first as well, but found that they were very active in engaging and getting to know the members in their guild. The rep requirement helps ensure that all members are helpful and active and helps foster a stronger sense of community when you don’t have people popping in and out on a whim or sometimes just not being present despite being part of the guild. Of course we have lost a few members who wished to join other guilds that were more tailored to their interests, but it was never bitter and many still keep in touch with them so it’s not like they were shunned after leaving.

I think it’s all in how you do it. If a guild requires 100% rep, but isn’t active in getting to know its members or giving them a reason to want to rep then of course it’s going to fail and leave a bad taste, but if you have an active and engaging guild then repping all the time comes naturally anyway so it’s hardly a problem or noticeable.

That being said if a guild with a 100% rep requirement just isn’t your thing no matter how good the community is then no big deal. Just be aware of it beforehand and don’t join if that’s the case. There are plenty of guilds out there to pick from.

Because as Dahkeus said it’s part of a larger problem. Yes you can block them, but that’s only a band-aid it doesn’t heal the wound.

If poor, inappropriate, or trolling behavior isn’t handled in a timely matter (and this goes for any situation not just games) then what starts as a small and easily avoidable situation like emote spam can very easily snowball into a bigger one.

Small edit: If they have so few people handling reports that they can’t even get around to dealing with someone that has been reported multiple times then that’s an issue in and of itself that needs to be looked at.

It’s a bad thing with the general community feels like reporting someone isn’t a viable option for dealing with negative or inappropriate behavior.

People were calling out events in Kessex and almost the moment I would WP in the event would either be over with a bunch of people running away from the area or it would be so close to done I wouldn’t be able to get there in time. As was said I shouldn’t have to camp an event to get my daily, which is what I normally end up doing.

If they want to make things area specific to encourage people to revisit that particular spot then at the very least they need to make sure the events can handle the number of players going at them. Daily events are turning into a rat race in whatever area they have to be completed in.

However not everyone is that skilled. My mother plays the game with me sometimes and she would never be able to solo a fractal no matter how easy it may seem to others. And like me WvW makes her uncomfortable (and again I don’t play a game to be uncomfortable I play to enjoy myself).

I really don’t think your mother is concerned by +10 AP in her account every day. So, doing 2 out of 4 items in her daily and receiving something for doing it is far better than the previous system, when you had to complete more items to receive a laurel + mystic coin.

Because you know my mom better then me amrite? No she didn’t care about 10 AP in the sense she was a hunter but it was nice for her to feel like there was something she was accomplishing IG. It was nice for her to feel like she was achieving something where most other achievements were out of her reach. Being able to complete more dailies, not less, services that role far better then rewards she won’t ever use. Again why is it so terrible an idea that dailies be accessible to more people inside the new system?

I already know the response by saying this but…players really need to learn that GW2 is not defined by one specific game mode. It might be annoying to you, but the game is geared so that at least two game modes are played (PvE + WvW or PvE + sPvP at least).

By playing more than one game mode, the daily comes without even thinking about it.

Also, you cannot bring back the old choices for dailies and keep the current reward structure. At the very least they would have to add some; ex: “do any world boss”, “daily logger”, etc.

GW2 is like any MMO in that it needs to sustain itself by retaining as many paying players as it can. The more people that play the game the more people may spend money on it the longer they can keep it alive and profit from it. Having many different types of game play to appeal to many different types of people aids in that.

What doesn’t aid in that is giving me something that the game expects me to participate in (like dailies), regardless of what type of game play I enjoy, and then forcing me to participate in game play that I know I don’t.

The fact is you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. No matter how many times you put a daily fractal on the list people who don’t want to play fractals, wont’ play fractals. People who don’t like WvW aren’t going to suddenly flock to WvW. Maybe a few will go there just to get daily and leave, and maybe a few will even enjoy it and decide to stay, but not anywhere near enough to make it worth it to try and force the issue. Esp if you end up causing feelings of resentment in your players.

I like the new daily system overall. I just think it could stand to be tweaked a little to be more inclusive to more players. And less of a stress to lower lvl areas where the mobs barely have time to spawn during an event before they’re cut down >.>

Dumb reasons why you can't play a class/race

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tacticalevilnoodlefox.5694

The only race I really refuse to play are Norn. I can’t stand their culture, it’s like a bunch of drunk college kids at Wisteria pretending to be spiritual and part of nature without having any clue of what they’re doing, shooting at local wildlife with bee-bee guns. I mean really what kind of “great hunt” is it when you drag a beast from its home and put it in a small enclosed space for your hunters to poke at? And all their personal story options…. just bleh. Does it all really have to revolve around me getting drunk or doing something stupid?

Maybe it gets better the more you play them, but I just can not get over my first impression to dig that far.

And as far as classes go there’s not really one I dislike or refuse to play. They all have something fun about them though I do tend to favor the medium classes. : )

Meh. I rolled a level 1 underwater fractal and soloed it to get the “Daily Fractal”. Kill a few krait, swim down a dark tunnel and kite a giant jellyfish into some electric fields. Done in a few minutes. Don’t have to do the full 3+Boss to get the daily done. Ascalon was second so I tried to solo that one too. Got the boss nearly dead and he killed me. That one can be done too as a solo.

But I didn’t need fractals to do my daily because I went to wvw, found a yak and killed it. And for fun I followed the zerg around for about an hour (wvw xp booster) and took everything in sight.

It’s only when you limit yourself to PvE only that you’re going to encounter a problem like this. These are artificial limits that people are imposing on themselves. You don’t need a team to do a single fractal for the “daily fractal” and it doesn’t take that long.

The only complaint I have is that the do events needs to have the zone randomized for every person and/or all the events in the game need to scale better so that when there is a zerg of people there everyone can get credit. While I like being able to do events for the daily with my husband, it would be better to have people spread out into different zones.

I personally love the new daily system overall, but still don’t see why they needed changing. ~Shrug~

I’m glad that you were able to solo the fractal to get your daily (it’s what I ended up doing), and I’m glad that WvW is an option for you.

However not everyone is that skilled. My mother plays the game with me sometimes and she would never be able to solo a fractal no matter how easy it may seem to others. And like me WvW makes her uncomfortable (and again I don’t play a game to be uncomfortable I play to enjoy myself).

While you’re right these are self imposed limits, and at the end of the day the daily shouldn’t be a make or break for game play, it doesn’t change the fact that Anet could help players a little by giving us more choices then what we’ve seen today. Why would it be so terrible to give players one more easier to complete daily just because it’s not something you need personally?

Not everything has to be made easy for less skilled players (dungeons, fractals, zones like Dry Top or the Silverwastes), but in the case of something like dailies, that all players are expected to want to partake in, it would be nice if they were considered.

Double fractals really doesn’t need to happen again. And don’t get me wrong I love doing fractals. My guild and I are always running them at some point in time or another and the extra relics I get for the daily reward has been very nice. That being said this is a holiday. I’m traveling myself and very few of my guild mates have the time needed to dedicate to a full fractal run atm. Which means I’m pretty much not getting daily today.

And PvP or WvW isn’t an option for me. Having to do WvW for map complete is enough of a stress for me, I don’t play this game to make myself uncomfortable.

It may not be a huge deal (one daily missed isn’t going to kill anything), but that doesn’t change the sour taste that could easily be fixed with more variety.

Overall I like the idea of the new daily system. I like not having to worry about being able to complete daily for my laurels, just needing to sign in. I like the extra rewards I get for completing daily tasks and I like that I only have to do 3 now in order to get it. I just think it needs a bit of tweaking (of which people have already given very good suggestions in this thread). If they can smooth out some of the wrinkles then I do think this will be a better daily system.

You cant exactly blame them. People ask for more content and faster patches, but if anything is suggested to bring in more income which would allow more development people complain even louder. At least staying silent means all people can do is speculate.

I hope they put something like this in game even if it makes the 10% of the population that rages about this quit.

I think people tend to forget that games aren’t created on hope and wishes and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to see a game you worked (hard) on turn a decent profit. As long as whatever subscription thing they come up with doesn’t give some players an unfair advantage over others like access to more powerful weapons and armor or something like that and sticks to simple perks (kinda like what the delux version gives I guess and as was stated before with gem store discounts and personal banks and such) then I don’t see a reason to get up in arms about it.

It could be a decent way for the game to bring in more money and a nice convenience for those willing to pay for it while those that don’t won’t have their game neutered because of it.

On Towns Being Destroyed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tacticalevilnoodlefox.5694

I say no to rebuilding of towns. Why? Cause, think about, new players will never get to experiance LA like the vets did. We, (the vets), were part of the living story. The history of tyria.

New players will ask, " what was lions arch?" And we shall reply, “the greatest meeting spot where countless Legendary heros stood around for hours doing nothing, watching the mystic toilet crush people’s dreams!”

But seriously, I like being a part of history new players will never get a chance to experiance. If towns get destroyed, then so be it. We were there for it, in Tyrias history books.

Exactly. And it’s not just the vet players that benefit but the new ones as well. They may not have been here for Lion’s Arch or Prosperity or what have you, but that just means they’ll have a chance to make their own story in the future. Forge their own experiences unique to them. That’s part of the fun of history and while I’m sad that I missed Lion’s Arch it’s also amazing to me to listen to older players talk about it and share their history of it with me. Same as it is IRL when you listen to someone older then you talk about the past.

Discrimination? (Non-English chat language)

I’m French and I run the English client because I hate localized versions, with the filter off so I can see everything that’s spoken, and it’s not rare I’ll answer a question a French person asked in French. Where’s the harm?

As typical as this kind of thing is, I think it’s wrong and honestly pretty entitled. There’s a lot of reasons someone might have their client set to English even though it isn’t their own main language – maybe that language simply isn’t an option, or maybe they’re bad at English but use games in English as a way to practice it… To demand that people speak English only is making things extremely unwelcoming to a host of people.

This is a really good point that nobody ever seems to think about. It’s easy to say speak English, but that doesn’t change the fact that you still have to learn it. And it doesn’t change the fact that the only way to really learn it is to immerse yourself in it.

In the end it’s a really dumb thing to get worked up over. You don’t understand the German? Ignore it. Block them if you feel like being that passive aggressive over your own sense of entitlement. It’s not that hard.

I couldn’t agree more. I do a lot of roleplay and minis tend to factor into my character a lot, but obviously now I can’t do that if they’re never going to show up.

Not only that, but I just love having them around and have spent not just a lot of in game gold on them, but gems as well and now I don’t even get to see or enjoy them? I was so excited to get that mini fox during their sale… I have yet to find a place where they don’t disappear from the map.
