The mechanic you had a problem with was knowing that people park their toons at nodes and log in just to farm them. If that seemed weird, it would be only natural to ask about it in the forums…. or just observe for a few weeks or months. Reporting them as a cheater from the get-go seems an odd first reaction to something you’re not familiar with. But whatever. Each to his own.

In other games, people use hacks to teleport themselves to nodes to mine them all over the map. Being familiar with that, why wouldn’t their first reaction to someone appearing at a node, mining it and then vanishing be to think that they were using a similar program?

Skin Rewards based on AP are probably one of the most incongruent things in the whole game.

A game which is base on farming and aesthetic, which somehow rewards you with skins ( fortunately are just 2 kind of weapon skins and 2 armor ) which can’t be obtained through farming nor tp, it’s really senseless.

Let’s be clear, i think it’s not a big dead since we are talking about 1 or 2 skins… but why?

Many, many achievements are pure farming. Just look at the weapon master achievements (95’001 kills in total) or Agent of Entropy (25’500 items salvaged), the rare collections… If you want lots of AP, you have to do some serious farming.

This’ll be my last post on this particular topic because I don’t want to derail the thread more than I already have, but this thing about dailies and gold needs clarifying:

The dailies require a certain amount of map completion.

They don’t, not really. You only need to finish three in any combination, so most days you can step out of two of six cities and be done with two of them, because gathering and vistas are that easy. Those dailies’ descriptions tell you where to go, and if you’re unsure you can just open the world map and check the names of regions directly adjacent to the major cities. Many people do a WvW daily for their third slot because it’s usually just a matter of finding a camp with five guards, dolyak caravans or some occupied areas – dunno what they’re called.

As for the flow of gold versus the cost of gathering and salvaging tools: Sell the stuff you get from those activities and you’ll easily make way more gold than the tools cost. Yes, I’ve a copper-fed salvage-o-matic, but that costs me the same per use than a salvaging kit. I barely ever sell anything but vendor trash – in fact I’m spending money to convert my materials overflow into other materials – and even I’m making quite a bit of money – more than enough to afford the highest-level gathering tools, and you don’t even need orichalcum picks and axes since mithril and elder wood sell so well. I also have enough for wp fees and anything else short of buying expensive stuff from the trading post, but as I said: I don’t sell stuff.

Just running around, exploring and playing the story should get them enough money to get by, really. But if they do keep spending all their money in the trading post, maybe encourage them to keep a gold or so on the side for things they need. Games can teach real-life lessons, too.

And lastly: It’d be sad if your kids missed out on this game because they suffer from a culture shock coming over from Diablo or whatever ARPG they play, but to each their own. Just don’t say this game has low gold flow. That’s misinformation and that I cannot stand. If you don’t insist on buying the rarest dyes and best equipment off the TP whenever you have a bit of money, you can easily get enough gold to afford the essentials while saving up for the more desirable things.

Their complaint? Dying a ton and not having enough gold to tp.

[…]

They didn’t like HoT maps because they didn’t make enough gold to tp when they died and so they sat there waiting for someone to help them or had to log out and wait for me to log in and give them enough cash to tp some place safe.

Sorry to go off topic, but have your family members tried waypointing without money while defeated? According to the wiki’s discussion page, it doesn’t cost money if you don’t have any (and presumably it doesn’t cost the full amount if you don’t have enough). It’d be supremely stupid of ANet to not allow people to get up without help after being defeated.

It’s also worth noting that doing any three dailies will net you 2 gold so even if my information is wrong, there’s an opportunity to have enough money to at least get up again.

By the way: I think you’re the one who said that a new player using a boost to get to level 80 wouldn’t have any money to identify gear, aren’t you? I used such a boost yesterday on my only non-80 and received 2 gold. That’s not much, but it’s enough to identify some gear, and in my experience you’ll never not have more gold at the end of the day – that’s before selling crafting materials you don’t need, of course -, so there’ll always be enough to identify some gear, and what you can’t identify you can salvage for more crafting materials to sell.

Note that I still balk at the price of identification. I usually don’t use waypoints for short hops because they’re too expensive in my mind, and they’re about in the same price range. But I also think with a modest amount of forethought there will always be enough money (which is probably why ANet invented this gold sink).

While I don’t like the idea of having to identify gear, especially if said service is stuck behind a heart, I can see why they did it – see above. I used to play WoW back in the day, and my partner still plays it today. Back then, 100 gold were a lot. Today, that’s pocket change. She regularly has several tens of thousands of gold on her, and she’s one of the poorer players because she spends it all on mounts and free play time. I’m not sure whether Blizzard have upped the flow of gold for newer players to compensate, but it’s still daunting for a new player to enter a world with nothing and note that everything is way too expensive to buy, from vendor stuff to, especially, everything in the auction house. It’d be great if that process could be slowed down as much as possible for Guild Wars 2, and this is one way to do it.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tairneanach.8427

tairneanach.8427

Selecting a character is a very personal process.

You really shouldn’t project what you think and feel onto others. I’ve at least one character of every race, and while I do have my favourites, the selection had nothing to do with who I think I am or what aspects of a personality I like.

And men who play female characters are responding to feminine aspects in their nature. Don’t be afraid to admit it.

Again: Unless and until you can present at least one peer-reviewed study, that’s just, like, your opinion, man. The problems with your statement begin with defining what is and isn’t feminine in a personality and escalate from there. Depending on what you define as feminine, I have no problem admitting that I have those traits, if I have them, but none of them are why I chose to play my humans and sylvari as females. The way the males of those races look simply didn’t appeal to me.

I mean, heck, if there was a game with playable female dwarves with beards I’d play them because no game does that. That’s the kind of thought process that I invest in MMORPG characters. Sometimes it’s the voice actor/actress, if there is one, but mostly it’s aesthetics/kittenery*.

I’m really curious now why you think you know the reasons for other people’s choices.

Edit:
*bad donkey-ry. I love the filter this forums has, but sometimes it’s not conducive to communicating one’s ideas.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tairneanach.8427

tairneanach.8427

You can’t enjoy the game or become immersed in it unless you identify on a fairly deep level with your character.

Maybe you can’t, but this doesn’t go for everyone. And while I know this is an old, old argument, I’ve never seen anyone actually answer this to my satisfaction: How the heck are you able to more easily identify with an Asura, a Charr or a Sylvari than the opposite gender?

Guys who play female characters are just feminine men in RL (which is fine I guess).

/snort
Sure.

A number of my good friends play female characters. And they’re great people who I enjoy hanging out with.

Good lord, this is only a hair’s breadth from the old friend argument certain people make.

But they absolutely have a lot of feminine qualities.

Or maybe you’re focusing more on the feminine qualities everyone has because they’re comfortable playing female characters in games and you think they therefore have to have these qualities. Or you’re projecting qualities onto them for the same reason.

The fact of the matter is that some people identify more with their characters than others, and if those same people don’t feel comfortable identifying with the opposite gender, we get threads like these. It’s important to remember that people are different from one another and that the conclusions of any one of us about why others do what they do are worthless because none of us has made a study of this.

Personally, I’ve been playing tabletop roleplaying games since my early teens and video games since before that. When I play CRPGs, I tend not to invest that much into characters, because to me no game can ever come close to what a real P&P RPG can let me experience. Computers just aren’t very good DMs. Thus, I have absolutely no problem playing whatever looks best to me. In GW2 this means female humans and Sylvari, and male Norn, Asura and Charr.

Yes, clearly people in this thread are saying that you’re not allowed to do that.

Meanwhile, what they’re actually saying is that you ought to be in range of some of the aoe buffs – you can still use your favourite weapons from there.

Story missions too unfair for solo players

The thing that annoys me in solo story missions is that if there’s an NPC that could resurrect you, they often don’t, instead preferring to uselessly attack whatever mobs there are. Very frustrating.

In fact, whenever I die in a story mission I have to wait patiently to respawn, and since respawning has no effect except damaging some armour anyway, I’d much prefer a “give up” button that lets me respawn faster instead of having to wait – just for story instances.

Obviously not a native speaker who confused “light up” with “enlighten”.

@topic: So, the skills that now have several charges count as ammunition? That’s indeed an odd term in connection to many of the skills that sport this mechanic.

I know, but it was too tempting to resist. :p

And yes, ever since they’ve announced the ammo system, I’ve wondered why they’d called it that. But then again, I can’t come up with many alternatives right now. Charges, maybe, but that might lead to confusion with charge skills.

To answer your question: Mantras can still be used without interrupting other actions. I guess that’s what’s unique about them now.

What I don’t get is what kind of ammo the warrior’s kick is supposed to use. Are they harvesting soles from their dead enemies to use as a conduit in this skill?

there are way bigger and angrier spiders or a huge amount of them, but riding one is not okay? you can even tame one as a ranger but this is too spoopy?

Can’t speak for all arachnophobes, but when I’m fighting spiders, I focus on my character, the skill bar, aoes and stuff, not the mob I’m fighting. Rangers having spiders out usually don’t register with me because they’re drowned in the rest of the players.

Having to stare at a spider to get to places I couldn’t otherwise get to would be a huge problem, though, so I’m thankful the mount’s not going to be in the game. Depending on its size, having other people ride up to me on one constantly could also prevent me from playing.

So yeah, a spider mount would be too “spoopy”.

Power is the only stat that matters in low lvl areas.

You repeating that like a mantra does not make it true. The difference in power doesn’t matter at all as long as the time it takes to kill a mob is comparable. And it is. People who don’t like the change have said so themselves. You’re just too stubborn to accept the facts, instead you try to hide behind irrelevant numbers and misdirection.

You don’t have to agree with me but it doesn’t make me wrong.

I still believe it is going to be hotfixed.

You are factually wrong. Since the difference in power does not cause the downscaled player to need more time to defeat a mob, that difference does not matter. Either the difference is too small or other factors make up for it – no matter which of these is the cause, the bottom line’s the same: Power is not the only thing that matters.

You’re also factually wrong on the hotfix, since that would’ve happened by now. It may be tweaked or patched, but a hotfix is an emergency patch shortly after the fact.

Are you ready to answer my questions yet, by the way? What’s the point of downscaling if downscaled players are more powerful than the level they’re downscaled to? Have you tried comparing kill times yet?

You have the right to voice your opinions, I voiced mine. I’m not angry at you, I don’t agree with but it’s okay, we can do this in free world. Peace.

And you’re evading again. Is it really that hard to answer my questions? Makes your case look really weak, you know.

He is factually correct. My level 21 kills faster than my level 80 when facing level appropriate mobs. So if my lvl 80 is downscaled to 21 fighting level 21 mobs my level 80 hits less hard than my level 21 in greens. Simple mathematical fact, level 21s kill faster than 80s in level 21 zones.

So far, the only proof you’ve provided for that is a screenshot of your stats. That does not take into account anything else. Maybe you’re dealing 10 damage less per hit, but the mob goes down in just as many hits. Have you actually tried it or are you just theorycrafting? Because when I tried it with a friend, we were both killing at about the same speed. And I’m not the only one. The OP, in case you forgot:

the time it takes for a lv80 zerk ascen-exotic mixed char to kill a veteran is pretty much the same for a lv.11 in queensdale

Oh, no, you’re not getting away this easily. That quote was specifically about open world low level areas.

If anything, you’re the one who needs to “get some perspective” – you’ve been complaining about a minor stat change post after post after post, even though that change does not make you weaker than others in any real sense, just because the numbers are slightly lower. Numbers, not maths, mind you, because for maths you need to actually finish the calculation, not stop part way through and call that a result.

Personal abuse, I get that. Trolling, verbal harassment, sure. Trying to bring a PC down on its knees by firing off a load of effects at once, sure, though I probably won’t ever be personally affected by that. But intimidiation by having a character firing off skills or standing close to your character? I simply don’t see how that could be intimidating in any way.

Here’s the definition in Oxford’s English Dictionary:
“Frighten or overawe (someone), especially in order to make them do what one wants”

How can you be frightened or overawed by pixels being close to other pixels? Someone invading your personal space in real life, sure, but… They can’t do anything to you. Well, they can annoy you, I suppose, but why would that be frightening?

Edit: This isn’t meant as an attack. I simply seek enlightenment.

I don’t know what you did to our attributes on down-leveled character but lv.80 characters right now are pretty useless, the time it takes for a lv80 zerk ascen-exotic mixed char to kill a veteran is pretty much the same for a lv.11 in queensdale, Not to say you nerf us in advance by taking passive specialization attributes from us.

what does that mean?
leveling, gear customization are rendered useless right now, why armed to the teeth when lv.80 are forced to score like lv.11 no matter what gears we have?

LOL wait ….

So downscaled 80s were nerfed ? I haven’t even noticed, thanks for informing me. On the flipside, I would like to ask you to be more precise and specific in your post, it is too vague and requires more info as to where your specific issue is so the community can help you out a bit.

I personally run on ultra glass toons when doing open world stuff, its either zerker or sinister and half of em are in exotics only, not ascended. And I still completely own lower level events I should not be able to. Solo champs in fraction of time it takes to do so in SW, etc.

So what exactly and precisely is it that is causing you so much trouble ? Do you just stand there and hit 1 and expect everything to die ? Do you not dodge ? do you not use any abilities ? Do you not kite when soloing a melee based champ ? Be specific pls.

Also, no matter which trait line you picked, you can always switch just a single trait or 2 and then switch utility skills. And equipping a more survivable not traited weapon isnt going to be the end of the world either.

It looks like you completely ignored the entirety of this thread. I posted visual proof of low level toons being more powerful. It isn’t a question of “I can’t kill stuff on my level 80.” It is a question of “This level 20 kills stuff faster than my level 80 and that is not acceptable.”

You posted visual proof of a slight numerical advantage in one stat. You didn’t post visual proof that that actually makes a significant difference in kill time.

Neither of us is right or wrong. You can’t mathematically prove opinions, only facts. And our opinions differ, you stated your arguments, I stated mine, there’s no point in arguing.

The only unsolved case is if this overtweaked change was intended. Anet will prove which one of us was right.

And equality is bad. Always. Rewards should be distributed by the level of effort put into your actions, therefore lvl 80 player should be more powerful when downscaled than genuine lvl 20 for example. It never should be overpowered, simply stronger. If everyone is equally the same, there is no reason to put any effort in playing. If you want to see why equality in this game is bad, come check world bosses or SW or pvp leachers. Whenever an event/match is won, those who tagged and akitten for the rest of the time are rewarded equally to those who put effort in winning. This is bad. In every case.

Now I’m going to eat my pizza. Have fun in whatever you are doing.

Now you’re evading two questions. In your opinion, what’s the point of downscaling? And have you tried and seen whether it actually makes any real difference outside of the hero screen?

Actually, one of us is factually wrong. You even say so in the same post.

You are being rewarded for your effort. You have access to more content, more skills, more traits, more tactics, more everything. Heck, you even get more powerful loot, although a fully decked out level 80 likely has little use for the gear that drops from trash mobs. But you get more gold, and if I’m not mistaken you get more karma too.
The one thing you don’t get is to be more powerful because the whole point of downscaling is that you’re no more powerful than a decked out character of the appropriate level. Why else would they have implemented it? Why can you not fess up and answer that simple question? It’s not a difficult one.

And not everyone is “equally the same” – just switch to a map with a higher level and presto! You’re more powerful than the low level guy. The only case where you’re not is when you’re in his level range. As it should be.

And the world bosses etc? Yeah, that’s been in the game since the start. You knew that was their philosophy. Now that scaling has been buffed, you complain. If equality is so bad, you should’ve left the game a long, long time ago. Literally every other MMORPG you can get a better reward if you actually participate, because just hanging around won’t get you a tag.

Edit: Power is the only stat that matters? Yeah, right. Not if it doesn’t make a difference in kill speed, it doesn’t.

I can accept or deny why anet put downscaling in this game. It doesn’t matter what I think about this. Or you. However when a change is made I can have an opinion if it is needed. I think the change to downscaling was needed for a long time however my opinion is it was overdone, it scales down too much and makes me question the goal of leveling. If a random lvl 20 character is equal or stronger than my lvl 80 toon with full ascended gear I should get a refund for all purchases I made for this character because they are pointless now in downscaled areas.

You keep evading the question. Why do you think downscaling was implemented? What was the intention in your opinion? Or rather: Why do you think characters shouldn’t be equal at the regional level ceiling? You feel that it’s necessary for downscaled characters to be more powerful, but what would be the point of downscaling if that were the case?

So because your gear is “pointless” in downscaled areas, you want a refund on them – despite the fact that it’s still at its full power everywhere else. Okay.

There is more <80 areas than lvl 80 areas in this game. So I am punished more than I’m rewarded. That’s lol indeed.

And again you’ve evaded the question. What would be the point of downscaling if it wasn’t to make characters equal?

I knew I should’ve added that with HoT coming out, you’ll have more areas to play in, but eh, whatever. If you can’t figure out how wrong your aforementioned statement was, that’s your problem.

Oh, one last thing: Have you actually tried playing downscaled without having a constant eye on the numbers? Try it. You’ll notice that you’re no slower at dispatching mobs as a lower level character is.

Edit:

The rest of the questions I’ve already answered. It’s pointless to run in circles with arguments when we won’t find a common ground. You believe in equality I don’t. Have a nice, equal day.

You think equality somehow makes you weaker. There’s a difference.

No I don’t. I’m arguing against overtweaked downscaling which we have now.

They don’t come here for every change and say that it’s intended, and they shouldn’t have to. What they should do more often is come here and tell us when something isn’t intended.

I don’t know if you are aware, but sometimes anet doesnt know if changes are intended. For 3 months they havent decided if Lupicus auto hitting in melee is intended change. This is why I can’t trust them. There should be a confirmation for current downscaling level – is it intended or overlooked bug.

Again: What do you think is the point of downscaling? You still haven’t answered that question, and I think it’s integral to this discussion. What do you think ANet intended with that system if not for characters in a certain area to be at about the same level? Note: “About” because it’s actually possible, though hard, for a levelling character to be below the current level ceiling.

And Lupicus: Maybe they haven’t decided whether they want to keep this bug that isn’t in any of the patch notes and thus truly unintended. This change to the scaling, however, is intended – it’s in the patch notes and as you can see here it’s not something they consider broken – else it would be on the list.

Sorry, I compared my two mesmers hitting the same mob and no, the 21 is hitting harder.

Even with the traits that give Might on every hit?
What about traits that increase the damage (and add conditions) to the Shatter and Illusion skills?

Why would I care about might in a level 20 zone? I am still killing things in 3-4 hits. Might doesn’t build up fast enough to matter.

However my level 20 is killing them in 2-3 hits. Which makes my level 80 and my gear moot.

If everything dies in a few hits regardless of your level, what is the problem with your 80 being numerically a teensy bit weaker than your 21? What exactly are you complaining about? Your level 80 and your gear aren’t moot – you have access to way more content with them than with your 21.

What’s the point of leveling if you are matched with lowest common denominator?

They never should be equal. I wasted my time for leveling to be stronger than I was at lvl 20. 80s don’t have to be OP, but making them equal is illogical.

Still I believe it’s bug. They never came here and told us it’s intended.

So now you’re arguing against downscaling in its entirety. Of course the whole point is to make characters more or less equal, otherwise the whole thing wouldn’t make a lick of sense.

Also, no, they didn’t. They don’t come here for every change and say that it’s intended, and they shouldn’t have to. What they should do more often is come here and tell us when something isn’t intended.

Oh, and just as I told Krall: No, you didn’t waste your time. You have access to way more content with level 80. If you don’t like being downscaled, go there.

We also lost the poison fields, which were really strong in PvP

We have a poison field on the mortar, and since it’s “really strong”, needing to spend the elite slot on it doesn’t seem unfair to me.

Aside from Russian, Portuguese and maybe Polish, those really aren’t majority languages.

Help me make sense of equipment

in Engineer

tairneanach.8427

I’m trying to find equipment that allows me to change my playstyle on the fly. I change my skills and traits around quite frequently, but I don’t play efficiently enough to have multiple sets of equipment, so I’m aiming for a jack of all trades kind of thing – power and condition damage, since we engineers seem to be good at both. I usually play solo, so I don’t need to be careful about being too egocentric, i.e. no healing power.

I’ve been reading up on equipment stats, but I feel like I’m in over my head, so if a kind soul could help me untangle this knot, I’d be very grateful.

First, stats. I’ve been thinking carrion would be good, since it provides both condition damage and power, thus allowing me to be somewhat okay at either, and defense in the form of vitality. Other options are sinister (no defense, though), and rabid (precision instead of power – is that a good idea?). Most other stat sets look too defensive for my tastes, and I don’t like the idea of celestial, because I feel that spreads my stats too thin. I’m open for ideas, though.

Sigils… dunno. I guess force for the rifle – but what should I put in the second slot? And maybe bursting and malice for the pistols. No idea what to put in the shield, though.

By the time I reached runes, I was totally befuddled. I blame the heat. There are so many options I just don’t know what to do. Something to offset the focus on condition damage, maybe, or something that gives me more survivability. Help?

Thanks in advance for any tips you can give me.

It was suppose to be like this since launch.

Do you have any data or quote to prove this statement? Or is it a wild guess? Because I don’t see any comment from Anet that it’s a bug or intended change. I know it’s in patch notes but the nerf seems over the top and considering how many bugs were introduced 2 weeks ago the scaling can be bugged also.

I think I’ll just repeat my question: What do you think the point of downscaling is in the first place?

I asked first – data or wild guess?

Er… Are we in the playground or something? If so: Nu-uh, I asked first. See the fourth post in this thread. That I didn’t ask you doesn’t make you exempt from answering it.

And no, it’s not a wild guess. It’s just logical reasoning. But fine, if you don’t want to answer the question, I will: What purpose could downscaling have? Why, to make high level players more equal to the content they’re playing when they enter low level areas.
Follow-up question: Would it make sense, then, when characters were capable of wasting their opposition with ease? And I’ll answer that for you too: No, it wouldn’t. Hence the nerf.

But fine, you wanted hard facts, so here’s a quote from an interview done way back when sidekicking was still a thing. It’s since developed into the scaling mechanic we know now:

“CJ: There is side kicking in all of dungeons in the game. Each dungeon whether it is a story dungeon or an explorable dungeon has a correlated level that your character gets side kicked down to if you are over the level of the dungeon, but we do not sidekick you up to the level of the dungeon. So to do any of the dungeons in the game you need to get be high enough level to participate in it and then if you go over level for it, we’ll side kick you down to keep it challenging and fun for you. So for example the Ascalon Catacombs story dungeon is a level 30 and if you get up to say, level 38 we’ll side kick you down to the level of the dungeon so you can keep playing it with everyone and have it be fun and challenging for you.”

Swiftness Nerf?

Engineer have perma swiftness from “steamlined kit” in Tools specialization

Not anymore. Swiftness duration and cooldown are now the same. It’s still basically unlimited swiftness, you just have to pay attention to when it runs out now.

It was always like this. Or atleast for a very long time.

The icd of Speedy Kits has always matched the base duration of swiftness it gave, back when it was still 5sec icd/5sec swiftness.

Now it’s 20sec icd for 20sec swiftness.

Nope. Before I took my break in February, you could reactivate speedy kits a few seconds before swiftness ran out.

In general, scaling down has been weakened, and scaling up has been increased.
Stat scaling now better accounts for level ranges at which equipment begins offering more possible stats (e.g., one-, two-, or three-stat pieces of gear).
Rarity scaling now takes into account how close you are to the maximum available rarity when scaling up or down.
Some minor “stack on kill” sigils have had their values reduced.

Is this it, as far as patch notes go? Then it wasn’t terribly clear.

What is “weakened”? What is “increased”? (rhetorical question, as we now know).
Gear is supposed to account better for rarity. Does this mean that my exotic or ascended piece should give more of a stat than a best available green piece of the same level as what I’m scaled to? This isn’t what I’m seeing (green pieces are actually better when downscaled).

Anyway… if this is the official party line, then so be it I suppose. Too bad the nerf herders won out. GW2 was fun while it lasted. Have fun using nerfs as a marketing tool for HoT, ANET

It’s actually pretty clear. They couldn’t give exact values, because there was so much to take into account, so they wrote “weakened” and “increased” – no need to go into specifics, really.

Gear accounting for rarity means that the better your gear, the stronger it remains. It does not mean that ascended gear makes you stronger than the best available piece of the level you scaled to. Scaling is supposed to make you be around the same strength as a character of that level, after all. And someone has speculated about why low-level green pieces seem better: You get three stats, they get one or two, so their individual bonuses are higher.

Personally I think this new scaling is lame. What doesn’t get mentioned is lvl 80 players armorvalue is also heavily reduced so now you take damage like a wet tissue.

Players claim they used to one-shoot low-lvl mobs before although I’ve never seen it let alone one-shotted anything myself. Now IF is was possible, should I be able to one-shoot lvl 2 mobs? Of course, if my level is 40 times that of the mob.

“Much requested nerf” ?? By whom? As if lvl 80’s in full ascended spend so much time in Queensdale, Plains of Ashford, Metrica or Caledon Forrest. Some of the very few I see in those maps with Legendary weapons – and I have to assume they also wear Ascended armor – are the ones I have to resurrect. Lets hope they requested this new scaling.

Downscaled characters were extremely overpowered before the patch. If you’ve never one-shotted anything, you weren’t in Queensdale or similar zones. High level characters out-damaged low level characters so much that they dominated events. And no, your character isn’t 40 times the level of the mob, they’ve been downscaled to about its level, hence you shouldn’t be much stronger than a normal level player with good gear.

Who requested that feature? People like me who have tons of alts (though apparently with one of each profession, I’m actually rather tame) and new players who were fed up by supposedly downscaled characters effectively stealing their kills. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but kill stealing isn’t something that’s supposed to be possible in GW2. And yes, plenty of high leveled characters run around in low level zones. The Queensdale champ train, now defunct if memory serves, was not run by characters of the zone’s level.

And lastly: armour. You now have to actually pay attention when you’re playing in low level zones. Is that supposed to be a bad thing?

To those asking for a free translation by fans: No. This never turns out well. First of all, Guild Wars 2 is huge. It likely has tens of thousands of lines of text. Secondly, what usually happens with fan translations is that you’ll get a handful of people who think they can translate properly, but are untrained. They’ll miss stuff, they’ll make more mistakes than professionals would, and the end result is more often than not quite poor. Especially if there are multiple people bickering about how to translate every little detail.

I work with a lot of trained translators and interpreters. I know what it takes to just start out in that field. I also have a general idea of how much they earn. No professional would translate this much for free, and no amateur should try.

Although I do not see exactly why people do this instead of showing off their achievements in the game, I see no reason at all to prevent people using the titles they want.

Some people, like me, simply don’t care about that stuff. Different strokes for different folks, I presume. I’ve never understood people who need to show off their achievements. I mean, just displaying a title or wearing flashy armour, sure, but feeling the need to parade it around infront of the main bank of the game so that people praise you for it?

Maybe I didn’t sound very nice when I wrote that. Sorry about that. What my point was was that what I, personally, think titles are for is to show off what you have accomplished in game to other people, the same way I like to show legendaries, expensive skins or minis such as the liadri. They are all part of the look you may have worked extremely hard for and would like other people to see. However, I still believe that the easy titles should be kept because like the cheap skins, some people use like a lot.

Oh, no, you didn’t sound rude or anything. I just attempted to explain why certain people prefer cosmetics over achievements and that I don’t understand bragging. I hope I didn’t come across as cross. Aheh. I’ll go stand in the corner now.

As I said, I’m perfectly okay with hard content, even content that I won’t ever manage to finish, and people getting a visible reward for it. I get that.

No, I am not okay with this.

To sum up my experience and opinion: after about 2 years of GW2 I’m actually going back to WoW.

To each their own. I recently tried WoW again and found it mindnumbingly boring, but I’m relatively entertained by GW2.

I agree, everyone with his opinion, but I do miss WoW’s content. That feeling of character progression and actually having a goal for your actions, even after max level is reached.
Maybe masteries will add that to GW2, but as it stands now, tbh I’m tired of salvaging a bazillion pieces of green gear every day or doing events to get flooded in useless karma, if you know what i mean.

I guess you’re talking about raiding for equipment, aren’t you? As I see it, that’s not really content. It’s the same as doing dungeons and fractals here, just with a shiny carrot at the end. And once you’ve gotten the gear, you’re in the same place as you are in GW2 until the next expansion comes out.

I think that’s a core thing with MMORPGs. They’re supposed to keep players interested, but they can’t deliver enough content to do so in a reasonable amount of time. I’m amazed that my partner’s still playing WoW – she doesn’t even do any of the endgame content. She just relaxes by doing some dailies and looking for mounts and pets.

remember OP, players in gw2 don’t like difficult content, they ask for it all the time, but when things get difficult they are like " revert NOW anet or boycott "

Different crowds, neighbour. One factions wants the game to be more difficult, the other wants it to be easier.
