That’s a brilliant observation that I hadn’t noticed before. I, personally, miss updates being once a month period. I know most would disagree and fresh content is great but I feel like with two concurrent events going on at once gives me too much to do in a smaller amount of time. Flame and Frost release schedule was perfect for me albeit sort of short spurts of small content rather than everything all at once.
Yes, you will be able to play the Queen’s Gauntlet after August 20th.
Hooray. More time to try to take down Strugar, Chomper and Liadri. Hoo boy. It’s tough as an Engineer.
I mentioned it because it was quoted in the patch page as “wrapping up the gala”. I know it usually sticks around longer it just sounded like it was going to end.
Will the activities like the balloons and the gauntlet still be active in the new patch Queen’s Speech?
Still having a hard time even after trying the chilling/grenade kit combo. Used another set of 40 tickets alone on this fight. Still frustrated but not defeated yet. I got lucky and had Strugar throw 3 meats to me last night but the 4th I got pulled away from and failed. Didn’t even get chomper down. I’ll keep trying. I wish Juggernaut still gave stability.

I got it on my first try with my chill grenade build. If you want the build, I would be happy to post it.
That would make my day actually. : D
just kill him first , u dont need to win the fight for the achi only to kill chomper
Yeah my friend got the achievement and didn’t even get Strugar but I was wondering if someone has some builds with traits and skills that they could link to. Also, what great cc’s do we have for him? I know nets don’t work. Is glue shot viable? Doesn’t it only last a very short time?
Any tips on traits? I found a guide very useful for beating 5 gambits and was successful. I feel like it really came down to the traits and the skills combo. Links to any full builds?
Any tips or builds? I can’t seem to catch up with Chomper. I sometimes find him way out in front with no really great control. Nets don’t effect him.

Do you think it’d be better or easier to go with the Book of Secrets or is it better to go with the Fractal Capacitor and just ascend it all the way to infused? I never have lots of gold so not having to buy 250 of a T6 material would be better I guess. It just adds an extra step with having to get exotic then ascend then infuse. But fractal relics are easier to come by than 250 T6. Plus ascending doesn’t require 50 globs either but instead philosopher’s stones or crystals. Just a thought.
@Phineas Poe One last question; can you explain your trinket setup for ascended and why you went with those choices? Would it be okay if with all 6 trinkets I went with + precision instead of the gold one? Or is the gold infusion worth losing the extra precision?
Yeah, I would definitely go for a utility amulet over an offensive/defensive amulet.
If not Gold Find, taking Magic Find or Karma Boost is well worth it over a gain of 5 Precision, which is less than a .25% increase in critical hit chance.
Like I said before, if you’re doing high end fractals you’ll want the additional Agony Resistance, but for most everything, a utility infusion is “best in slot.”
I noticed you recently switched to all versatile simple infusions. Is that what you’d be using from now on. Total precision, if I’m understanding it correctly, is about 1.5% with all 6 precise infusions which doesn’t add up to a lot. Especially considering the amount of T6 materials used in crafting them.

I recently found and art print of this image. It used to belong to my former roommate who gave it to me as he doesn’t play GW. I believe it came from some PC magazine ages ago. I did a little research and found out it was the White Mantle as opposed to my theory on it being Ascalonian soldiers. Anyone know any more about this print, how rare it is, etc?
There’s an issue I’ve been having in Black Citadel since the beta. I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this. It’s been a while since I’ve been back to BC since I hit 80 but I went back the other day and the bug is still there. When you get to around where the LA portal is or the auction house and your facing a certain direction thew frames drop to a choppy mess. The only way I’ve found to fix this is to either exit the game or to set your graphics to low and then crank them back up. Has anyone else encountered this? Minor complaint I know but I figured it’d be fixed almost a year from launch.
Well I managed to scrape through Tier 4 of Kiel previously but last night I two manned Tier 4 Gnash and got a perfect. Not a single gold was taken. We were a full Zerk Engi and the other guy was a Thief. Given the thiefs utility I guess he could have probably soloed it without me. Glad to have both of these out of the way but just wanted to let everyone know my experience with it. Hope that helps.
So how do you do it as an engineer?
Honestly the Thief did most of the work. He wire pulled the plunderers and every time we got aggro he either mass stealthed us both or ran away if it was on cooldown. We just had to pay attention to which side was coming back with gold. I’m not sure on his build but when he hit them he hit hard. We’re talking he could almost 2 shot them. With me it was even faster kills. Him and I did Kiel only letting 1 or 2 get through and Gnash perfect. I believe he’s actually just helping people finish it before it goes away.
As the event ends next week, I’m just getting started on this event tonight. Any tips going in for the best way to get 2500 points and the headshots? I’m up for any method and have all weekend to play so hit me with some ideas.

I bought rare versions of all my gear for berserker’s last night. I am loving the build so far. Even with rare power gear replacing my exotic condition damage gear I am already seeing a higher dps rate with my skills than when I was wearing exotic con damage. That’s amazing. The build is just a pure power house with great utility. Not to mention you can run forever with swiftness procing on every kit swap. Thanks a ton Phineas.
Well I finally got Tier 4 Kiel last night thanks to a very crafty thief. I’ll be trying to do Gnash this week as well. That being said I just want to say the event was poorly implemented, buggy, and overall not much fun. Hopefully we won’t see an activity this unbalanced again. I know Anet is great with listening to their fans and hopefully they saw this thread and took it to heart. This is the kind of thing we don’t want to see again. What happened to patches like Flame and Frost that were spread over weeks with bits unlocking at a time and was very refined and fun and interesting? I just feel like these patches are more and more being shoved out the door to keep us sated. Come on guys, I know your better than this.
But the trials only started a week ago which means it will only be playable for two weeks. This is the issue I have with some of the updates. We got 3 mini games and 2 weeks to complete them all if we want them.
They should have a couple of easy to achieve mini-game achievements during the event and keep the more hard core ones as achievable at any time when they return on rotation. I think this month was definitely a mistake with three mini-games in one update. It pushed players too much to get them all before the update went away. It often feels like you don’t have time to do anything else.
Honestly, my big issue with the release schedule is the temporary nature of content. If more of the content was permanent players wouldn’t feel so rushed and it would alleviate a lot of issues for people.
Most of the content completionists are struggling with is the grind achievements, which are unnecessary imo.
Seconded. I think the biggest problem, other than the most bugs we’ve seen in a patch, was that there is too much to consume in too little a time. Some people are still doing stuff from the previous patch whilst trying to complete 3 mini games, dungeons, fractals, events, etc. This is all while trying to complete things in the main game at the same time. I was trying to get world completion and finish my personal story but that had to be put on hold because of the massive updates that aren’t lengthy enough. Probably my least favorite patch so far.
Please someone help me finish these stupid trials. I’m on currently. I’m tired of only doing this event for 6 hours a day.
I may just buy the rare equivalent to all of this and use that until I can obtain the tokens and such to get all my exotic and ascended stuff. That would be very much cheaper and would give me a chance to learn the build without going all in.
I’d love to do so later this evening, if the chance presents itself.
As before I’ll be on around 6:30 CST. Feel free to add me and when I get one PM me.
@Alur and @Debbysaurus Could you two help me get a group together and knock these out? You two were most helpful yesterday with the comments but I was unable to accomplish it last night. Anyone else who’s game is welcome as well.

When is candidate trials going out? I can’t find any info on it.
I am always shocked when such a huge content update comes out every two weeks. No other game in history has achieved such a well oiled machine when it comes to content. Normally, this would be a good thing. The problem is, and this problem is mostly my part, but I am a completionist. I like to get everything done including achievements in these updates. The problem has become that I have two weeks to complete it whereas before I had a month or longer. I’m all for new content rapidly but the time I have to complete things has drastically gone down. Honestly, I can only think of two options. One, the content goes back to being once a month or longer. Or two, the content is spread across several updates instead of piled into one bigger update, i.e. maybe Southsun Survival and Aspect Arena got introduced on the 6th rather than piled in with so many other things to do out of the gate. I guess we can’t complain much with free content but I feel like it’s being fired out too fast. This last update was also very buggy for many people. I think the updates should be taken a little slower. Maybe once a month is a good medium. Gives us more time to complete and see everything and gives them more time to work out the kinks. As it stands, there is so much content in this update I haven’t even gotten to play a couple mini games yet because I’ve been fighting with Tier 4 trials for a week. What do you guys think?
With Queen’s Jubilee the site page lists that we will be seeing a rotation of mini games each day. Two questions: 1) Will this be a permanent thing where we can play this classic mini games at any time based on the rotation? and 2) Will this include Aspect Arena as well. I noticed Southsun Survival from Gnashblade was listed but not Kiel’s mini game.
Can someone possibly help me get Tier 4 for both completed? As we’re running out of time to finish this I really want to complete it. If someone who knows the best way to go about it could get a group together and help me I would be eternally grateful and sing your praises all across Tyria. : ) In all seriousness I can be on around 6:30 CST and will be til midnight if anyone can help out. I am on Dragonbrand but willing to guest. 80 Engi.

Yes, because they’re Agony Resistance plus Precision.
20 Precision moves your Critical Hit Chance only about 1% though, so I wouldn’t worry about it if you’re working on a legendary or something.
Would it be better to infuse for power since it’s the primary stat? Or is precision ideal here?
Speaking of the legendary question, since I’m switching from rifle to pistol I don’t think I will. The rifle looked awesome but the pistol is about the stupidest thing ever.
I thought you only had to be personal level 10 to get Pristine Relics? Would Exquisite Ruby be best for the slots if I got an exotic version?
You only have to be Personal Level 10 to get Pristine Relics, but if you do Fractals 18 and Fractal 28 in the same day, that’s two daily chests—one for each tier. There’s not really much reason to go beyond that at that point, unless you really care that much about Fractal weapon skins, or if you’re just seeking a larger challenge.
I am curious to know why you went with the choices for infusions on the ascended gear. Is the extra gold bonus worth not getting an offensive or defensive slot for your amulet?
Honestly, Simple Versatile Infusions are just fine. I just picked the Precise ones just as a goal you should work toward. That was kind of just a moment in my ITM build where I was just slotting things in as whatever. Obviously when you get into higher tier Fractals you will want to wear Infused Ascended stuff for extra Agony Resistance.
So the precise ones would be what I want to ideally put into the slots?
I was wondering, when the crafting level goes up to 500 and we are able to craft ascended weapons and gear as stated in the blog post, will we be able to craft ascended rings, amulets, back, and accessories as well or will this remain the way it is?
There are exotic Berserker rings. I just don’t recommend buying them because you’re just going to replace them in a month. Only invest gold in something you see having long-term use, especially since there are some big expenses for other things, like the new Aetherized weapons.
You can get 10 Fractal Relics for a ring in a few days once you’re at Personal Level 20-30, especially if you have multiple characters.
Unless you’re just strapped for karma, then I guess you can burn the gold.
Nevermind I see what you meant. I am curious to know why you went with the choices for infusions on the ascended gear. Is the extra gold bonus worth not getting an offensive or defensive slot for your amulet?

You could just get Cavalier stuff (Power/Toughness/Critical Damage) from the Temple of Balthazar karma vendor. 42,000 a piece.
Is there not a Berserker stat set for exotic trinkets? I don’t mind buying those if possible. What gem would go in them? Exquisite Ruby? Also, what is the reason for the precision choice on your ascended infusion. Sorry to ask so many questions. Just want to do my research before I jump head long into a time sink of gear grind. : )
@PhineasPoe.3018 Do you think there’s a build that can use Rabid that is similar to mine? I’d love to try your build but the logistics of transferring to Berserker from Rabid is probably going to be more gold than I can spare.
With all due respect, this is a move you should make sooner than later, because Rabid is not a very good insignia in PvE for reasons I’ve already mentioned.
Remember that you can run dungeons to get your Berserker gear. CoF, CoE, and Arah all offer Berserker insignia armor and weapons. You will have to spend zero money compiling this.
You can get your Ascended rings through Fractals, your Ascended accessories through Guild Missions, and your Ascended amulet from laurels.
ANet has structured most of the end-game content to where you can get what you need without spending much in the way of gold.
You’ve been a huge help but can I ask another question: Can you tell me the alternative to all 6 trinket slots exotic that would be good to use until I get the ascended versions and what gems you would use in the slots for them?
Would you guys say there is an outstanding build right now for Engis? Like is there one that stands out above the rest?
You really don’t want to be using crests. Instead of Rabid crests use Chrysocola or Coral Orbs for a condition build.
The only builds I’m aware of that utilize Rabid gear do not use Flamethrower. The most popular right now are probably P/P HGH with either Grenades or Toolkit.
Can someone link me to a build like this? I don’t mind switching to P/P or P/S if I could still use the Rabid stuff I have.
@PhineasPoe.3018 Do you think there’s a build that can use Rabid that is similar to mine? I’d love to try your build but the logistics of transferring to Berserker from Rabid is probably going to be more gold than I can spare. Also, I’ve noticed that Rabid crests offer smaller amount of stats than most stat combos like Berserker. Is this correct? Why do they have it use less? I use Crest of the Rabid which primary stat gives 20 condition while the equivalent exotic Berserker ruby gives 25 power. This is caused by their not being an exotic rabid crest.
Is there any builds that do utilize Rabid gear? It’s going to be a massive pain to switch everything to a different stat and time consuming. Is it really worth it to invest the time and money to do a 180 like that?
I am not looking forward to the amount of gold I’m going to spend redoing my entire armor, sigil, trinkets, etc. Hoo boy.
Is Poe’s build valid in WvW?
So rabid would be better in WvW? How does the build do in WvW anyway?
I have to ask, why the Rune of Altruism Phineas? What does the healing power do for the engi? Im assuming it affects elixir heal?
That was quite the in depth analysis. What would your build look like with this setup I’m curious to know.
I just noticed the build was in your signature. Sorry about that. I really want to try this build now. Two things though that’s going to suck.
1) Rebuying all my gear to be Berserker’s
2) Getting all my ascended gear to berserkers as I already have 3 pieces which now must be replaced. Huzzah for grinding laurels in the near future.
So I’m assuming Rabid stats are not what I want to go with. I’ve been hearing that from several places. Before I invest all my time and gold into getting a different set what’s the ideal way to go here? I’ve seen Berserker, Knight, and everything in between.
You can trait into Inventions and wear Knights/Soldier gear to start but you should view these decisions as training wheels to ease the learning curve of the game. Not everybody has to hit like an Axe Warrior in PvE, but you should be mindful of your damage output nonetheless.
I wear full Berserker on my Engineer and survive even the toughest PvE content just fine.
Can someone explain exactly why condition damage doesn’t matter in this case? I’m assuming it has to do with the function of how the ticks work. I was under the impression that it was mandatory for this build as it increased the damage output as well as duration.
Because the gain gearing for Power and Critical Damage is significantly higher than what you gain gearing for Condition Damage.
Burning does 328 base damage at level 80, and only scales beyond that by 25% of your Condition Damage stat. A full set of Rabid gear (with Ascended) will net you about 1100 Condition Damage. That means you’re only adding 275 damage per second to your Burn.
Compare that to Berserker, which gives you 1100 Power.
Damage is calculated by taking Weapon Strength (969 for the FT) and multiplying it by the Power Coefficient of a skill. If you have around 2000 Power with a full Berserker set, and use Flame Jet as a base of comparison (1.5), that means your Flame Jet will dish out roughly 1118 damage with no crits on a target with 2600 armor using the formula.
(Weapon Strength x Power x Skill Coeff.)/(Target’s Armor)
But if you take away that 1100 Power, and are left with 900, your Flame Jet will dish out 503 damage instead with no crits. That is a loss of over 600 damage wearing Rabid, and that is not even taking into consideration the difference in damage from critical hits—which would put an even bigger edge over Rabid due to Berserker’s Critical Damage increase.
More importantly, you have to be mindful of how Burning as a condition works. It’s not like Bleeding where the highest damage bleeds get priority. Burning stacks by duration, meaning any time you use a skill that burns, that Burning condition is entering a queue. It’s not a reliable method for DPS, especially when you consider that you’re not the only person applying burning (i.e., Guardians burn targets with every fifth attack).
A third reason is the fact that many dungeons and fractals in the game involve destroying inanimate objects. Inanimate objects are immune to conditions.
That was quite the in depth analysis. What would your build look like with this setup I’m curious to know.
It’s simply because the portion of your damage coming from direct damage (as opposed to conditions) is higher.
I love the build I was just wondering if the traits or the stat combo was a little off really. I honestly have no problem burning most things to the ground in PvE and have won several fights in wvw 1 on 1 with ranger, thief and warriors. I think I want to keep it but really just need minor pointers as I wasn’t too sure on the actual stats and the way condition works. Maybe I’m just looking into too much. I think I’m falling into my old habit of min/max from my WoW days.
