Tier 1 is nothing but a blobby mess.
Tier 2 is the same as Tier 1 but comes in a r33t “gvg for teh fitez zomg!!!1!!!!” box.
Never done T3, but am currently on SBI (t4 I think) and actually have fun playing this game again.
Also, comparing BG’s queue numbers now is useless, everybody knows they hibergate if there’s no big WvW event going on.
Hrmm, no problems with lag, but, last night:
1. Died from falling damage walking down the stairs in front of our spawn on 2 BLs
2. Had a nice long trail of red "Invulnerable"s walking down the stairs from the waypoint in to spawn on 2 BLs
3. Died from falling damage walking down a slight incline, yet my guildies were fine
4. Five or six occasions my toon became “stuck”. He was not immobilized, he was not stunned, he’d just strike a pose and not move (which is awesome during a fight)
5. Seems hit or miss as to whether or not my skills (or even things like AoE loot) will fire when I’m holding my right mouse button (because who mouse steers, right? smh)
No problems with lag or rubber banding tho!
haha i love it when people ask for the removal of the aoe cap, even if it was possible performance wise.. when it comes it gameplay it would be terrible. have you ever dropped something on a zerg and watched over half of your hp disappear to retal? yea imagine that with 30 targets. funfunfunfun
TBH, that actually sounds like both a pretty good argument and gameplay counter for removing AoE cap…
I hear Black Gate is beautiful this time of year.
Really? Have you seen the scores? Lol
It’s not seasons so Blackgate is hibergating. Everybody knows this.
Of all the seasons, I actually think this one’s reward mechanism worked the best. After reset, you have one week to walk up to an NPC and push ‘F’. This is the same NPC you’ve used for all your other season/tournament rewards and you can’t leave any spawn without almost literally tripping over him.
I don’t remember if I got a mail or not, but it’s a moot point since both servers I play on had many people posting reminders in map/team chat to go collect your rewards. I even made a point of stopping at him while letting my team repair/sell/etc.
TL;DR: I do well at sPvP but got schooled in WvW. Please further limit build diversity kthxbai.
@babazhook – Your argument is invalid in a game which includes a stealth mechanic. My thief and mesmer can have your siege disabled before you even know I’m there, regardless of where you put it.
There’s some encouraging signs that YB might stabilise in T2;
We’re not PPTing very hard at all right now, not like seasons;
We gained a significant guild in SG;
There’s a fair few regulars taking a break right now;
We got a fair few individual transfers during seasons that still turn out. this includes OCX;
Our few ‘for fights’ guilds are having a blast.Throw in the fact that by all reports SoS lost OCX guilds, making the tier more competitive.
I doubt T3 has any servers to replace YB at this point, population wise.
SG was never a significant anything, all hype, they could never manage more than a dozen guildies and none were effective enough to win either the pvd ppt ocx/sea time slot or in open field. To me they are the epitome of the cliche “Johnny Come Lately” Coat Tail Rider.
You do realize SG is NA PST, not OCX/SEA, right?
Reduce the radius affected and don’t allow it to be thrown from behind gates. Done.
^this and reduce the range maybe.
^and cut down duration for at least 50%. 45sec is way to long imo.
… And golems. Where’s the sense in disabling the most powerful piece of siege for the least amount of time? Also, if the golem is disabled, why can it still move?
What do people mean WvW will get boring? I dont know about other servers, but mine’s pretty much been having the same fights against the same people over the same objectives on the same maps for… Well, ever.
I used to play from the time I got home until the time I went to bed. I’d lead randomly throughout the week and map pinned resets for at least a year. Lately, I can’t even bring myself to log in for reasons other than shooting the poop with my guildies.
It has nothing to do with skill lag, queues, blobs, crappy frame rates, hackers, or the fact I make more doing an hour of PvE vs a whole night on the borderlands, it’s just gotten boring.
Oo oo! Pick me Pick me!
The problem is you only have 68 people, so you only outnumber SG 1.5 to 1 instead of the usual 2 or 3?
I’m on Jade Quarry

That’s about as bad as I’ve ever seen it. Only a handful of others experienced it and leaving and requeuing for the map restored it to the usual “can’t do anything but smash 1 because nothing happens, they flash for a few seconds then go on interrupted cooldown, or flash for 10-15 seconds then trigger at some random point between where I activated the skill and where I am now” style lag when ships either pass in the night or collide.
Size of groups doesn’t matter. Sometimes you can 40v40, fine, others 20v20 is unplayable. Hell, I’ve even gone 50v50v50 with no problems yet lost a 1v1 due to skills not firing.
Things started getting a lot worse around the time that 400/500gbps DDoS was tearing around the internet, so could WvW inadvertently be triggering some kind of mitigation rule?
Since the worst of the lag seems to be related to “position” in the map’s “messaging queue” (is the best I can do with 0 knowledge of how the servers operate), could there be mutex issues updating shared memory before the various bits and bytes are sent over the wire to the client? Are the NIC drivers and Layer 3 miscellany up to the task of shifting around large amounts of time-sensitive data?
How closely are the physical servers themselves being monitored? Are there RAM issues? How are the various voltage/etc sensors looking since I’d imagine the processors are being given a hefty workout? How is overall system latency? Are there any IO blocks? Is any of the networking equipment incapable of handling the amount of traffic an MMO generates? Is the layer 2 connection between the servers and various other network equipment being saturated with collisions and causing packet loss?
If none of what I suggest above is the problem, then it’s obvious: Something wonky with the actual server code itself. Easy peasy.
Being able to purchase tomes of knowledge for badges would be a quality of life improvement for WvW players which is precisely why it will never be.
As someone with many duplicate (mostly expensive :P) dyes across his 8 toons, I’m curious about this as well.
The dyes? No. You get an account wide unlock of the dye, and an unidentified dye per duplication. But they’ll probably be worth a bit on the TP by then.
Yah, I just read that part. Dunno how I missed it first couple times.
I blame lack of coffee.

Couple of comments on those screenshots
1) There are 3 exits from spawn
2) In screenshot 1 it looked like you actually have more numbers than JQ there…use them. Take that entire group out to left or right exit (see point 1). Assault the ballistas in the rear..—->….profit, lootbags and problem solved. God forbid you have to use tactics there though.3) When ppl in WvW get bored, they do crazy stuff.
This, but you forgot:
4) On JQ we pretty much leave EB up to the pugs and kitten knows what they get up to in there. Evidently that day they got their hands on some ballistas.
Thanks JQ, this sure is ‘fun’

I know, it’s enough to make you wish Arenanet had designed the borders with more than 1 way out. Oh wait…
oh Jade Quarry is in top 3? your zergs seem smaller then BG and SoR prove your selfs and destroy SoS home lands or maybe Tarnished Coast will take your spot in the big 3 (there trying hard to get people and overpower you)
Incorrect. SoR only runs groups of 15. They all happen to be in the same place at the same time doing the same thing, but they’re only running 15.
Ask RET/RISE, they seem to be graduates of the SoR school of not blobbing.
So well played there, you must be very proud of yourself.
Lol, I’ll remember TC’s stance on fair play the next time 30 of you zerg down my 5 man.
But tbh, I’m never proud of anything that happens in EB. Since Bloodlust came out it’s not even worth its PPT any more.
kitten …
That’s a lotta people.
Seriously?
I guess you didn’t make it in to JQBL last night during NA prime then. The blob you guys were running was giving me SOR style frame drops. Kudos.
JQ camps spawnfor BG so that TC cant defend keep and BG clears mortars so that JQ can cap TC towers.. TC too stronk outmanned? or maybe JQ and BG are some kind of gay buddies? :s
Exactly, because it doesn’t make sense from an overall map strategy standpoint to, y’know, break that waypoint to impair your troop’s movements or anything.
On an unrelated note, missing your wallet BG? PM me.
We’re all fourthy just being ourselves here in the Toasty Coast. We follow our hearts and sometimes we follow commanders and every now and then we follow a commander with a heart, but if he eats it all bets are off.
Why would your commander carry around a heart if he’s not going to eat it?
JQ is ticking at 515. Still think you need more man power during ocx/sea?
Yes.
… and me sitting on your body, dancing and laughing. It is not classy I didn’t do that before and I will not do that to anyone else except MERC and no remorse.
I thought that was standard operating procedure whenever you guys killed someone, especially when you have them outnumbered 5 or 6 to1?
One thing that mystifies me about the bloodlust buffs is, all along, I’ve always thought the Outmanned buff was deliberately kept useless because they didn’t want to give any actual advantage to any team, so now they’ve gone and introduced what is ostensibly an overmanned buff. If the stats boost only applied to the current borderland, that would be one thing, but applying across all 4 maps and stacking? C’mon.
I know the stated purpose was to reduce zergging, and I don’t know how it’s going in other tiers, but in mine this has worked to an extent: They will break off 2 or 3 people as scouts while the rest of the blob goes to the other points.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a few decent fights in the ruins that were actually quite enjoyable, but they tend to be short lived because, as mentioned above, the blob is never far away and can have you roflstomped before you even finish capping.
What I don’t understand is, if Anet has any interest in actually making WvW better, why don’t they just go down the plethora of community-created lists built by those of us that choose to spend as close to 100% of our game time in WvW as possible?
If you want to break up the zergs you can do it overnight by actively punishing them with something like an “overmanned” buff that’s, say, -200 to everything if you have more than X players in Y radius or the debuff increments by Z for every A people over the other servers you have on the map. Some might not claim it’s fair, but I honestly don’t see how it’s any less fair than bloodlust (especially since it would only apply to one map) and can see it being considerably more effective than dropping an sPvP map in the middle of the borderlands.
TL;DR: This is a flawed mechanic tied to a borderline OP buff that will only make strong servers stronger and demoralize the weaker.
Sooo when is this NS/TW gee vee gee going to happen? I want front row seat.
That might even be a gee vee gee ess gee doesn’t crash!
As Patron Saint of Spamming Staff One and Sometimes Two, I can tell you there is no holier place than Jade Quarry.
Praise Jedsus and pass the loot bags.
Dear Blackgate:
Your constant posts about 2v1s and being focused led me to put on my Encyclopedia Brown hat and do a little sleuthing. After an exhaustive investigation entailing a vast network of shifty informants, tens of thousands of man hours, and, naturally, some wanton and gratuitous abuse of controlled substances, here are the results:
- We show up, ready to roll and make some tasty, tasty SoR bags by forcing a 2v1 on them
- The first couple moves go splendidly, but you just can’t seem to keep your grubby hands off our marbles, can you?
- Go to wipe your latest kittenjam attempt and realize that SoR has tagged along for the ride
- The 2v1 has now switched to you and, although your bags aren’t as tasty, we stick it out because, y’know, we’re already over here and stuff
- Lather, rinse, repeat many many times
- Y’know what, sod it: Let’s just focus BG from the get-go tonight
Mystery solved. I hope my humble efforts help the seeming majority of your posters sleep easier tonight.
You’re welcome;
JQ
I had sushi for lunch. Sushi is good.
I had a gyro for lunch with real yogurt dill sauce, it was gyrolicious!
I got a sausage from the street meat vendor in front of the office because I am a lazy scrub.
Didn’t know a t1 server still pulls this kind of trick. Good on you SG. A lot of the other servers we’ve faced actually know how to hide their mesmers.
We in [SG] are still getting used to things that aren’t thieves and don’t use hammers.
Please bear with us.
Yup, we held hands with JQ all week and even went out on a date to grab a bite to eat. JQ how come you didn’t call us back after?
Didn’t your mom tell you?
Nobody’s going to buy the cow when they get the milk for free.
Seriously tho, good fights this week TC and FA.
Hope we get to do it again sometime soon;
Kraslin from [SG]
JQ here.
1. TC because I think it’d be good fun, plus I want to find out if Mif’s really are the best cookies in all of Tyria.
2. FA because it seems a lot of folks on TC and FA think the 3 of us would be a good match.
TBH I’d be happy with anyone but BG and/or SoR, it’s starting to feel like we’ve been fighting one or both forever.
Man, its pure fun. Lost 2/3 of your life stantly is why I play WvW, only for feel the danger in my blood.
NOPE
Only 19.9k on an Engineer?
You’re doing it wrong.
What kind of ring did they send you guys? I won’t transfer for less than a level 80 exotic.
@Waffler
I’ve noticed the same goes for siege. If you’re too close to the edge when you man it, you can’t use it and the only way to get off is waypointing (F to leave brings up “You can’t drop bundles in air”)
Also, last night my fiance and I realized our toons were standing in mid air about 3 or 4 game feet from the edge of our tower and all was fine.
I don’t know if it’s happened to anyone else but I’ve noticed that sometimes when you die from a bugged fall you can’t be revived. Sometimes I try every possible angle and the Revive interaction never comes up.
IIRC this started showing up the patch before last.
Stop complaining about the costs of Influence, this thread is not about that it is about the bugged mission panel.
There was no mention of UI until your post.
Then will we have the 300k influence my guild burned speeding this up refunded?
I chose Asura because they reminded me of an entire race of Maxes from Sam N Max Freelance Police. What’s not to love about incredibly lethal, cute little sociopaths who muck about with 10 foot tall killer robots?
