[Suggestion] More varied loot

When it comes to PvE content and getting loot, crafting is the core of this game and I love it!

However after finally getting to end of HoT I was surprised that the loot never really changed, I got some great skins but the same generic lvl 80 items dropped, worse yet, Mithril Ore nodes were still a thing…which to me doesn’t make sense, Mithril is very sub par, you get it from generic lvl 80 gear, you get it from lvl 75+ zones it feels very unrewarding, certainly when I have over 500+ stacks of it.

What I propose is this. Have gear drops that will give me more mats for Asc, not actual asc but the mats needed to craft the daily asc items.
The reason for this is allot of mats I have just collect dust and I’ll end up just buying the mats needed from the TP, however if I got these from random greens, it would at least make these items useful.

I think it’s cool that when your leveling your getting gear that will help you end game but the loot scales with you, so if I go to low lvl zone, I still get lvl 78-80 gear.
In games like WoW you craft end game gear with mats that you get only at the end lvl, now I get this isn’t WoW but I think moving forward Guild Wars 2 could have a great system on it’s hand.

What I would like to see is people who lvl get mats that will help them craft end game items with Asc mats being more of a lvl 80 find, then when you get to lvl 80 you can either do the following:

1. Go back to old zones, do events which will help you get mats and of course get you more XP towards your mastery.

2. Drop low lvl items in your loot bags which can either be used to break down into useful mats for Asc gear or even be used for low level alts.

I am just so frustrated with HOT and the direction GW2 has taken.

I can only do certain events, hero point, or adventure mini-games when they become available.

No one is showing up for big meta events so they fail.

I can not get some mastery points unless other are there too.

The entire game has turned into forced cooperation.

I want to play when I want to, not when others decide to do certain events. I loved GW1 and when GW2 first came out it was AWESOME. Now I am mired with following around tags just hitting buttons.

I just want to play a nice game not follow after groups. Or grinding after things to get other things. What happened to the fun GW2?

So far HoT has been ok, up until tonight where nothing happened and I couldn’t progress as quickly as I would’ve liked in the story but oh well.
I find getting commander has helped allot and as GW2 has become a very casual game it’s hard very hard to get groups.

I think what they need to do is keep the mechanics as they are but not make the little events require a group, let you choose to do the big events just like you choose to do Teq or open world boss runs.

There has already been a statement by ANet that they were modifying HoT to be more accessible to casual/solo players. Perhaps we should see what they do. Iirc, the eta on this is the April quarterly patch.

I was just thinking perhaps they could add a buff to it, so, less people you have the stronger you get. Either way, it’s good to see them thinking about it, be looking forward to see what happens but hope it doesn’t ruin HoT

I’ve recently got into HoT and I love it, at the moment. The reason I say at the moment is I have some concerns and some suggestions.

My biggest concern at the moment is how HP are done and the main story of HoT, at the moment everything is fine, I can find groups quite easily but there are times, certainly tonight where the server population is bit low and getting a good group to do these really challenging and fun events makes it nigh on impossible as you need more DPS and general hands on deck to win these events.
Now imagine in the future where we have say, two to three more expansions each more challenging than the next?

Why would you go back to HoT if only for nostalgia? What happens to those players who are just starting or are getting HP to unlock the next class? If HP won’t be a big part then what’s the point in getting HP at all?

So here are some of my solutions.

1. Henchmen: Back in GW1 everything was a challenge, you couldn’t solo all of the content, it was possible with some classes but not all of them so you would get NPC’s that would follow you and attack, there were kinda like pets but would fit certain roles in GW1, this made any content that would be unplayable, playable. It wasn’t amazing because human players were…for the most part…better than the henchmen.

2. Make HP events more rewarding: Perhaps make them give out a gold chest that can give out Asc mats or gold, if there is no reason to go back and do these events, as a new player or on a low populated server, your stuck, more so if you want to progress in the main story.

3. Nerf it all to the ground: This is the one I hate the most but is the easiest to implement. I cannot stress how I love the challenging open world content that forces team play but again, what happens when HoT becomes irrelevant to that player base? You make the content easier so people can get the HP and mastery points to progress to the next expansion.

Honestly, as a tank the 2H is great.

The drill adds Vun which can help with crit if you build into it but it’s the “worst” not bad, but not great.

Frost adds 10% dmg reduction and a DoT

Finally, gravedigger is really good if you use it with a poison combo field even more so when below the threshold as it adds extra poison stacks which can also give more dmg reduction.

The only thing I don’t like is the pulse, if they buffed the amount of health you can take from it, might be good as a extra heal but it’s so small, that or if it instead left a poison field. Dark field just seems so out of place for the reaper.

So I’ve hit FoTM lvl 100 and I’d like to post some feedback. Unfortunately it is mostly negative because I believe the update actually made fractals worse in many respects. It seems to me like the fractal updates were rushed and as a result the quality suffered. There are a number of problems with the new system:

1. The Boon Fumbler instability (when you dodge roll, you lose all your boons) is just bad.

Fractals used to be one of the few places in the game where skill and knowledge of each specific encounter (boss attack tells, etc) mattered. Dodging mattered in most cases. Why would you punish skilled play? Becoming better at fractals is fun, being punished for applying skill is not. There are ways to reduce the effectiveness of dodging (see Mai Trin) other than a blanket ‘f*** you if you dodge’ rule. Suggestion: remove this instability and add specific boss mechanics at higher levels (if you must).

2. Huge health pools and nerfed boss damage make fractals tedious, boring and requiring less skill

This is related to the previous issue too. Mai Trin at lvl 100 hits for less than Mai Trin used to at lvl 50 before HoT. This makes skill and encounter knowledge less important, while making boss fights slow, boring and unfun. Why learn the boss attacks and mechanics when they don’t actually threaten to kill you? High level fractals (51+) were supposed to be even more challenging than the 40-50 tier we had before HoT, but most of them are not. Now some fractals are actually somewhat challenging, but many need to be balanced individually. I’d suggest you make some bosses (maybe depending on the level/intability) have high toughness but low vitality, wheres others have low toughness and high vitality, but not both.

But the biggest issue of all is this:

3. Once a player is done with their achievements, almost all fractals (esp. lvl 51+) become dead content for them.

Remember how the aquatic fractal before HoT was dead? For exactly the same reason almost all 51+ lvl fractals will be dead. The reason is that fractal rewards are tied to dailies, and the single 51+ daily will be completed by doing a combination of Swamp and Molten Duo fractals, because they are the quickest, just like how everyone used to roll for Swamp which meant they never did the Aquatic fractal. The game doesn’t reward you for doing the hard fractals at all. There absolutely need to be multiple specific lvl 51+ daily fractals. But even this will solve the issue only partially. Before HoT, in order to get the best rewards (at lvl 50 daily) you HAD to potentially do the hardest fractals in the game every day! There isn’t an equivalently hard + rewarding option now.

Edit: Further suggestion for a fix — add 4 more specific fractal island dailies, 2 randomly selected from the pool of levels 51-75 and 2 from 76-100. Make daily rewards scale with the fractal level and make these dailies give the best fractal rewards possible (even some unique rewards from the daily chest from these only). This will ensure people can’t get the best rewards (or at least as quickly) by only doing the easy fractals. Balance the 51+ fractals (read: make Swamp, Molten Duo and Jade Maw hard). The balancing will likely require mechanics/instability changes which unfortunately makes it unlikely.

4. Rewards

I don’t have detailed statistics on how good the rewards from dailies are, but my feeling is that the rewards aren’t even as good as they were before HoT. I’ll just say that I’m happy I did the 40/50 dailies for the past year and a half before HoT so now I’ll never have to craft another ascended weapon or armor piece.

Let me know if I’ve missed or misinterpreted something.

This is very disheartening, I’m currently grinding like crazy to get into this content and it’s this good?

Maybe it’s best to quit the game and come back after a few months and see if they’ve fixed it. =(

I’ll have to try that, I’m struggling allot as of late with this game, more so due to players not wanting to do old content due to HoT. I get the feeling allot of this will kick off when raiding becomes the forefront of end game and people find they don’t have the gear for it yet.

Are there any communities outside of the official forums you would recommend?

My last run of SW I got 36 fragments out of 100 and I need to 400 to make the gem to finally finish the greatsword and that’s not including the alts I’m thinking of making for raiding. You have to understand that this is just one character I’m gearing up and getting burned out on, I would like to play multiple classes in PvE but of course that would mean there would be more grinding in SW to do.

If I could buy the mats needed for weapons like I could with armor smithing that might make it better…getting armor was very costly and I can only do it once per pay day.

Guild wars 1 did something like this when you could either grind for skill points and get them for free or you could play and unlock every skill in the game, I personally don’t see why they couldn’t do this for Guild Wars 2 with ascended gear, just make sure you can’t salvage it.

The armor you can buy but not the weapons and the prices are far more than 100g some go for 70g per 3 stacks.

I tried getting a 2H sword today for my guardian and I needed 5 empircal stars (or however they’re spelt) to make 1 crystal, I can’t buy either from the TP meaning I have to wait (and grind) for 5 days to get one weapon.

Haven’t been playing HoT lately as I wanted to get my characters with Ascended gear first before going there, never realized what I was letting myself in for.

So my routine with GW2 is not trying out HoT but keeping with a strict plan.

Log on reward.
Karma Converter Reward.
Dailies.
SW.

Getting really burned out with Guild Wars 2 as of late, can’t really enjoy HoT because I don’t have time to do the Expansion or the grind for ascended gear, so here is my suggestion that everyone will hate.
Let me buy Ascended gear on the TP that is un-salvageable and bound to a character once used.

Why? Because right now I’m stuck against a time wall and I would rather be against a pay wall. Will it be bad PR? Yes. Is the grinding bad PR? Yes, it’s a complete lie to how they advertised Guild Wars 2 to begin with.

If raiding and fractals didn’t ascended gear, I wouldn’t have a problem and this kind of direction is not Guild Wars, it’s WoW.
I remember buying my end game set in GW1 at Droknars forge and being set for every single expansion in the game, the only thing holding me back was my own skill as a player, that’s guild wars.

But, maybe I’ missing something here. I didn’t mind the grind when I felt like I was making progress at a good pace (before the SW reward nerf) but now it’s at a snails pace and because I can’t buy all of the mats, I have to do the same content over and over to make any progression that will last me throughout the expansions.

Either make all of the mats ready to buy on the TP, get rid of the time gating, lower the cost or all of the above, or just cut out the middle man and let me pay you for it so I can start enjoying the game again.

Want to stress though.

I don’t mind the grind for cosmetics.

I do mind the grind for progression and no, leveling doesn’t count because I can’t pay RL money to make the grind less frustrating though I wish I could.

Really disheartened as I can’t get a straight answer so I thought I’d post here, I want to get Ascended gear so I can go into HoT and not be held back by gear, I want my own skill to hold me back not my gear.

I bought HoT because I thought it would be easier to get it whilst doing the content there as there aren’t any new dungeons to get gear like you have in WoW so I thought “Well they have to make it easier otherwise why would you go there unless for story?”

But that seems to be what’s happened? Maybe it’s just people complaining but it’s really gotten me down.

What I think I have to do is leave my guild as they do guild missions on a day I’m busy, keep doing dailies if it’s not in HoT and do SW to get more mats.

Is HoT as bad as I think it is?
Does it make getting ascended gear less grindy?
Should I stay in SW and keep at it until I get the mats?

If yes then a reminder to Arena net of how you set out to make MMO’s

I have HoT but I have 3 classes to level and I have 3 80’s that need to get Ascended gear, I’ve been grinding mats for about a month and due to it being locked for 1 mat per 24 hrs I was going to wait till all my characters had ascended and the meta was out until I went to HoT to save on money and time.

That said what’s the best way now? I noticed there was new asc matterials on my Guard so now I’m not sure what to do, I was hoping that HoT would make the grind quicker as I’ll need them for Fractuals and Raiding.

I know I don’t NEED them for open world HoT but I like to play with my character being at it’s best so the game flows better.

PvE needs to be more diverse in rewards.

More options is what I want, I don’t just want to do PvE but PvP it’s good to hear that HoT will do a bit of that but that won’t be doing anything with dungeons right?

I don’t get why they they just make it so it drops Ascended mats, you can’t sell or salvage it and it gives players more options to get loot and have fun with the content they enjoy.

PvE needs to be more diverse in rewards.

Been playing the game for about 3 years but never really got into it, finally got into PvE since the announcement of raiding and here is where I see the biggest issue with Guild Wars 2.

I did some dungeons and I the rewards were very small, I barely got anything of worth more so in regards to gold and crafting supplies which is the next progression. When I looked at the stats of the dungeon gear and it was the same of what I had for the set I bought.

Now I’ve played Guild wars 1 and I get that you would do content for challenge, fun and skins but the problem is now that raiding has come into the game there is a need for progression and dungeons are (At least to a new player) very tough (but fun!)
but offer no real rewards.

I’ve yet to do Fractuals but I did do the Silverwastes and that’s when the problems of Guild wars 2 PvE really showed.

Silverwastes is fun, it’s like a big open raid that isn’t a huge challenge but it gives an illusion of it. More so is the rewards are great, I get tons of high end gear to get materials from and I feel like I’m making good progress to get Ascended gear for my 5 characters.
It’s not broken, I still need to work with my “team” to do it and it takes a long time to do so I like it.

Dungeons just feel like a waste of time in regards to progression, I like the idea of progressing via crafting but having dungeons give out less mats and the big reward is a new skin I may or may not like with stats that I’ve already got, it’s a bit lack luster.

Why not make dungeons give out more instead of nerfing so you get tons of materials and gear that works towards going into Fractuals and Raiding?
You don’t need to make it harder just make the rewards viable so I can have a variety of options when going towards Ascended gear?
I will do the dungeons when I’ve got the gear but right now it’s holding me back from progressing with friends via raiding.

Thanks for the replies, I’ll certainly check out the site and read through it, I really want to get the most out of Guild Wars 2, been playing it for a while but never really took it seriously up till now, always got too intimidated by Dungeons.

Struggling with dungeons

I’ve had the game since launch but I always held back on dungeons as I wanted to get gear then I would just put it off as I didn’t really get it.

I play Warrior, Guardian, Elementalist and I’m leveling a Engineer and Ranger.

Tried to do Asc with my guild but I just didn’t understand what I was doing wrong, as an example, there was a boss where I was told to bunch up, so I did, the boss circles his axes and I die, I try to ress but I get killed.
Next time I LoS him and hide when he does his move that killed me and I got people saying “What are you doing…?”

I don’t know, it’s been three years of putting it off and I really want to get the most out of Guild Wars 2 but I just can’t get my head around Dungeons, I wanted to avoid spoiling them but it looks like I have too.

What videos would people recommend for a “new player” I don’t feel like the main game has prepared me at all for the kind of tactics that seems to be what everyone is doing. I’m completely lost and confused by it all.
