The point is simple; allows you to track your progress to a pre-defined goal. That’s all it was ever intended to be.
I really don’t think this is a fair point. One could argue that saving your gold to buy a precursor off the TP, also allows you to track your progress to a pre-defined goal.
Which means we must revert back to the original question. What is the point of it. To me, it just seems like the crafting and buying it off the TP are essentially the same thing.
I think most people are missing the point here. The point of precursor crafting was to make them more obtainable to people in the game. Reasons for this was that the % of getting them from the mystic forge or from the game in general was too low and also certain people could not farm enough gold quick enough to compensate with the increasing inflation in the game and thus could not afford them off the TP. Locking precursors behind an incomprehensible and monotonous grind did not fix either of these problems and therefore I think, IN MY OPINION, Anet have not brought precursor crafting into the game successfully.
Please do not tell me that the current precursor crafting is different to buying the actual precursor off the TP. It is extremely similar.
I get your analogy and I know about how the craftable item is cheaper to craft yourself than buy as well. I don’t see the relevance.
This system is Anet’s response to players wanting to give players a more meaningful experience getting a legendary. It does that better than the old ways. Price just wasn’t a factor and I think for the more astute people, they knew it; not because Anet wants to screw people and get them to buy gems, but because it CAN’T.
Let’s be honest … did you think it was going to be different than what it is? Look at what you have to do for current Legendary or Ascended Gear. Think about it.
Ah, but in the end, it isn’t more meaningful, because you have to buy it after all. So all that work that would otherwise make it meaningful is void of purpose.
It’s not less meaningful because you have to buy something. What is this something you HAVE to buy?
I really don’t see people not buying some of the materials unless they want to wait 2+ years to get them all…
Stopped buying Gems with real money years ago and didn’t purchase the overpriced so-called expansion pact. Best gaming gaming decision I have made in a long time. Too bad my core game has been nerfed and changed for the worse as well.
So yes I agree with the OP—Very Sad.
Not really overpriced.. Picked it up for around 27€ and it is definitely worth that.
Instead of buying a precursor with one large sum of gold off the trading post, you can now buy materials with many small sums of gold off the trading.
If someone tells me that it is some new revolutionary non-rng method of getting a precursor, it’s not. You could already buy them off the TP which isn’t rng. Sorrynotsorry.
I think the only real problem with GW2 is it’s complexity…. It is a cool game to watch however, it is extremely hard to understand what is happening if you have never played GW2 before and why would one watch something where they have no idea what is going on?
Sometimes, I literally have no clue when the big GW2 tournaments are on. Most of the time it’s due to 2x glory or Anet giving precursors away in twitch chat.
I feel like making a set of skins and having them as a rare drop form PvP chests during tournaments would market and incentivize the major tournaments just a little more.
It’s nothing huge but it’s a small step.
Allowing people to have skins from years ago takes nothing away from anyone else. What has been taken away from players is that previously in PvP different rewards were available according to what rank you were. When anet decided to remove this they also deleted any unspent currency Pvp players had. This is historically not uncommon for them to do. They also reset everyone fractals so they could introduce a leaderboard that never eventuated. So the big question is, if you bring back old PvP rewards will veteran players also get back their deleted PvP currencies? If fractal rewards are being reworked, will veteran fractal runners be retrospectively rewarded for having their level reset and there only being a reward now, after hundreds of rings etc have had to be deleted?
Point is, it never a good idea to go back in time. I have unspent black lions tickets. I like some of the skins that I missed out on that I could’ve got for one ticket, but now they’re either not available or worth more tickets than I have. Should we go back because i earned the reward, didn’t spend it and now that reward line was has been changed? No we shouldn’t..but making the skin available other methods harms nobody. It just means I now have to achieve it via a different means.
They gave people like two weeks notice to spend all of their glory… They also warned that fractals would be reset.
How are these things the same as bringing back various weapon and armor skins that were unintentionally taken out of the game.
Sounds like you just came onto the forums to seek attention and expected people to take your side……….
This is a dumb argument. Those PvP skins were unintentionally taken out of the game with 0 warning and Anet have said from the moment it happened that they would be put back in.
I expected it to be like
300 daily dungeons
50 daily fractals
500 world invader kills
100 PvP captures
etc etc… (Make this harder if it is too easy).
Something that is difficult, takes a lot if time and gets players to play all the content instead of mindlessly pressing f all day.
I’m a little disappointed they made it to be in the same form it is now.
And to the people saying it should be just as hard as buying it off the TP, it shouldn’t. It should be slightly easier. There is a reason you can only do this once per precursor.
Looking back over the posts in the past few months, I feel people are slightly insensitive about this issue and don’t actually realise the struggle. I am going to list a few of the problems I encounter on a daily basis hoping for a fix in the future.
Red aoe circles : The worst problem is these are hard to see on so many terrains in GW2. This has restricted me from certain content in the game. (Mostly pugging dungeons as I have a slight case of Atychiphobia)
Certain fonts in the chat window.
Finding commander tags on the map
Finding my cursor in big fights.
Selling my greens at the trader : This is hella annoying. I have to look at the picture and read the gear type as it is too hard to tell between orange/green/yellow. When I have hundreds of things to sell I get headaches as the square where you read the gear rarity bobs around the place depending on different items (not sure why this happens).
I feel like most of these are simple fixes and hope Anet will bring in colour blind filters to help the affected!
Really hope this consumable isn’t time gated like the other one… missed the empyreal fragment one at christmas.
The problem with fractals is that they are too hard/long for pugs and too easy for hardcore players… and that the rewards are fairly lacklustre. They should buff rewards and have an easy/hard mode.
Don’t complain because you are bad at them. Go re-run dungeons ten times a day, at least you get adequately rewarded for them….
I was thinking this as well… I would love a set of nice looking weapon skins to drop at the end of dungeons with a decent drop rate → Higher than exotics but less than rare.
Personally, I love it in other games when I finish dungeons etc. and the loot drops but I don’t get this feeling in gw2.
And don’t use the “but fractals” excuse. Fractals aren’t the same as dungeons. They are harder more tedious and designed to be optional endgame challenges for people that want it.
Whilst I completely agree with the op, I do not condone the amount of troll posts floating around today. If someone was genuinely upset by this, there is no need to take the kitten out of them.
Today I saw an engineer shoot at another player with a pistol. I am highly offended and my butt is hurt.
I think you are being insensitive. Obviously Anet had this planned for months and didn’t mean anything by it, but clearly you don’t understand that people have lost their friends and families in plane crashes (recently) and seeing this in game “joke” might take offence.
A plane crashed on the other side of the globe. Sorry, it doesn’t effect me in the least… and a character running around like a plane in a video game is completely unrelated. People need to put on their bigboy panties and sack up.
Insensitive
“showing or feeling no concern for others’ feelings.”I have no more to say.
Are you sensitive to the plight of the people in Africa? or the people in the middle east ? or the people in Asia ? Am sure there are many ingame references to the tragedies happening there too!
The point is, there are no in game jokes about this kind of thing. I am not standing up for anything, I just think it is wrong to insult those that have just gone through a tragedy and might not be in a correct state of mind at the moment.

Clearly you don’t understand that equally nonspecific people have lost their friends and families in war, or to gun and knife crime (recently) and seeing these in game “features” might take offence.
I can see clearly that in game there are no jokes or pranks being played on me in correlation with guns in game.
Ohh I see what you did there, you posted a link to quip. Which is still not a joke/prank being played on me and is just a weapon skin.

Seeing as this filter is there when you log in it is essentially unavoidable.
haha GG OP.
on another note the filter and the flying is really getting annoying.
“The filter can be turned off by turning off post-processing”.
Says this on Dulfy.. don’t know if it is correct or not.

Here is a site with multiple builds, and a short guide on how to use it.

Enjoy!
Outside of leveling / discovering and solo play, it’s difficult to find an area of this game that isn’t dominated by people farming.
SW – chest farm or afking waiting for VW to die to get loot
World Bosses – massive blobs
Dungeons – speed runs
EOTM – zerg farms
OS – suicide kill farming
WvW – blobsAny kind of rewarding, difficult or new content is basically just blobbed and farmed. I can only come to the conclusion that this is what they want GW2 to be.
So players shouldn’t work together to complete common goals??
What do people think of this. I think this would be pretty cool. Maybe like a guard / Ranger hybrid with less support but more dps.
I also understand a lot of people a lot of people play ranger for the pets, but maybe for those who would like a twist on the class.
For those asking about the newsletter sign-up: if you had previously signed up to receive the GW2 newsletter, then you are already considered signed up for the GW2: HoT newsletter, which would explain why you can’t sign up again…because you already receive the newsletter from NCSoft(it’s the same newsletter).
Also, this is a stress test, which is usually to check the server load for the new content, nothing that big to worry about, but they do appreciate all those that can participate. I’d not expect them to be looking for bug reports or other discrepancies, however, they will want feedback on what you experienced and your opinions, that was how it was in the original GW2 closed beta stress tests, for those that remember.
The wording in the e-mail, several have already said it, but I’m going to bold and capitalize the important part, since everyone seems to be ignoring it: “AS ONE of our most loyal players,…” , in case you’ve forgotten your English lessons, in this context, it means one of many, so there should be no reason to be disappointed about not being included this round. Just how many people out of a million or so do you think they’re going to invite to the first few stress tests?
And what they mean by “ONE OF THE MOST LOYAL PLAYERS” including people who haven’t even spend more than 500 hours in this game. So basically Anet thinks all players are loyal as long as they have an account, so the lottery is including almost all accounts.
I initially interpreted it as the most loyal players were invited to stress test and you are one of them. So I overreacted and I do apologise for that.
For Aomine, I reread Gailles posts and the blog post on the subject, and they haven’t just chosen “loyal” players but all players who have signed up to the newsletter. So there were 2 pools of players from which they chose the stress testers if I understood correctly.
(edited by tim.1280)
Even if he played 24/7 since last month, he wouldn’t have played 5k~10k hrs like many of us in forums :P
Having played 5k hours since release doesn’t mean you have played more than someone that have played 200 hours in a month though. Relatively speaking that is.
There have been 22,512 (give or take a few) hours since release. 5k is less than a fifth of that time.
One month is 744 hours. That means that those 200 hours is fourth or something like that. Which basically means that the one playing 200 hours one month after release have played relatively more than someone that have played 5k hours since release.
Loyalty implies continuity. I don’t think one month is time enough to express loyalty.
I know a lot of people who quit Gw2 after 1-2 months.
The fact that “most loyal” and “just bought” came together in this thread is upsetting to more than a few players it seems. I think some people need to get over the fact that others are more sensitive.
And “raging” isn’t even remotely similar to upset.
“Please understand that these are early beta tests designed to stress core systems of an expansion that’s still in development.”
These betas are for stress tests. Why are you picking me apart, as if I am some nemesis of yours? How else do you think one finds bugs? One has to play the game.
Did you read my whole post? I quite clearly pointed out that right now it is a stress-test so not that important, but when it comes to the actual betas in the future, it will be about finding bugs and helping to make the game ready, not “play before everyone else”.
Then why did you mention it? Are you purposely trying to start an argument? Or rub salt in the wound? “who doesn’t want to play HoT before everyone else”. Did I mention myself in this statement. It was meant as an analogy about how desirable these tests are.
This is off topic…
Never once did I say I was “entitled”. Obviously it is a little disappointing that I didn’t get into the beta. I mean, who doesn’t want to play HoT before everyone else. I knew there was a chance I would not get in. “If you’re one of the lucky players chosen to participate”….
I am more disappointed at what ANET stated in the email. “one of our most loyal customers”.
And in this post you present a great reason why you should no be invited to the beta. I have bolded it for you.
Sure, this is a stress-test so it doesn’t really matter much. But for the real beta tests, that is not the way of thinking that ArenaNet wants.

The mail said: “As one of our most loyal players, we value your feedback”. Nowhere does that say or even imply that all of the “most loyal players” will get invited.
I realised my mistake as I typed it. I apologise.
So much entitlement in this thread.
The only thing that caused your disappointment is your over-hyped expectation on a random element. It’s like saying “I’ve been buying lottery tickets for over a decade, I deserve at least a million dollar consolation prize for my loyalty.”
There will be more tests. Guys, just sit down and wait for next one.

Pretty hard not to be upset as ANET considers me not to be “One of our most loyal players”.
I have played since Beta weekends in 2012, Clocked in as many hours as I possibly can and I regularly spend money on this game.
Guess I should find a new game to play.
You were part of the pool of most loyal players (as were I), not everyone in that pool got invited (I didn’t).
Nowhere in any way or form did they ever say that everyone on the list would be invited. Especially not for the first test.
I agree it was a very poorly worded email (as mentioned before on this thread).
This is all I have to say. And to the person who called me “melodramatic”.
It honestly wasn’t melodramatic. As a customer for 3 years and as a person who has supported this game as much as I can, it is disappointing to see others being named as “our most loyal customers”.

It’s spelled “grammar”. Ugh.
No fullstop either! Eeek.
RIP t3.
RIP warriors.
RIP Melee train.
;_;
Oh no, I might not be able to use Blink to move my Mesmer around slightly faster!
Oh no, I can’t teleport cheese in PvP!
…
Nah, don’t care. I main a Guardian and our meditations have always required targeting. No free Blinks and teleports for us.
Welcome to the club. Time to OOC move just like every other class.
And let’s be honest, if a change in a small handful of movement skills is enough for you to quit the game…
Medi guard will get nerfed. No more using judges intervention while target isn’t in range.
I get mad on players who:
- don’t have enough money to get a proper PC
Ummmm :O
I get a sadistic twist out of pulling people and making them fall down the holes in skyhammer.
I also enjoy salty tears when people moan in practice PvP
I just want to say that I am probably one of the only people that laughs my kitten off when I fall through kitten or get sent flying off the edge on Skyhammer. I find it hilarious.
(Lost track of how many times I accidentally rocket booted off the edge myself)
I just hate the 20 second wait of shame after I fall down by accident :s.

The revenant cannot use a staff. Only Axe/mace and hammer. Not sure why people keep making pointless posts about stuff that has never been confirmed by the devs.
Revenant will most likely be able to use a sword due to the fact that Rytlock’s signature weapon is the fiery dragon sword.
Also why would they include a Revenant wielding a staff in the trailer, and then not include it in the game? #Conspiracy theories.
I guess it’s seen as insignificant and not a problem seeing as a huge portion of the population seem to enjoy running dungeons….
Basically what was said was
" you don’t need to grind, you can do fun stuff for gold."…
The only sufficient gold reward I see in game, comes from dungeons or meta events and unfortunately, I’m not a big fan.
I’m not sure what you’re doing outside of dungeons and meta events, but I do have a steady cash flow while having fun in game.
While I’m exploring the world (either on leveling alts or on those 80s still into map exploration), I can harvest a good amount of crafting material, especially on the mid-level maps, gather lots of different equipment (for salvaging) and loot bags from the foes I meet, gain a handfull of skillpoints (that will give me something worthwhile at the mystic forge once I’ve got all of that character’s utilities unlocked), get story rewards from personal story that have a good chance of containing dyes or other interesting resources, and so on.
I’ve easily gathered all the materials and most of the gold for my legendary of choice (including buying the precursor on the tp) while having fun. No grind involved. The only thing actually keeping me from crafting that legendary is my habit of wasting my gold on gems to unlock even more character slots every time I really get close to buying the precursor .
What are the areas of the game that you find fun? I’m having a hard time of thinking of anything that doesn’t let you gather gold on the side.
Yup your point is extremely valid and I can’t deny that I do get loot from every aspect of the game. I like doing everything in game but I honestly dislike the grouping system in dungeons. People rage if I make mistakes or do something wrong and my self esteem is low so I avoid them.
But,
the fact is that the gold reward for dungeons is significantly higher. If I decide to do a day of dungeons I can make more money than I would doing maybe 2-3 days of wvw. Especially If I am scouting / roaming. Same goes for exploration or PvP.
And to the person complaining about inflation you clearly didn’t read the whole OP. I don’t wish for any changes in gold rewards to take place UNLESS there are some more gold sinks in place.
I believe it was mentioned that they would be adding “adventures” and reworking heart quests to be “repeatable” in the vanilla world.
This is mentioned in the Angry Joe interview ( don’t have a link).
Making gold is so easy, even from WvW give you good gold gain if you good and are farming the other players ;D
You get rares and lootbags. I opened 50 heavy wvw lootbags the other day and got an overwhelming 2 t6 mats. I made about 1g for the hour I farmed.
I really don’t care if you get champ bags here or free login rewards there, that you can sell on the tp…
My main point is that the dungeon gold reward is significantly higher than any other aspect ( whilst getting weps/armor/mats and champ bags, but at the same time it is not particularly any harder and by far quicker. I just think it needs a buff in other areas.
Something that was mentioned in an interview snagged the edge of my mind and didn’t seem entirely true to me.
Basically what was said was
" you don’t need to grind, you can do fun stuff for gold."
Imo, if anet staff want to make this statement, they have to stay true to it in the game.
The only sufficient gold reward I see in game, comes from dungeons or meta events and unfortunately, I’m not a big fan.
I wanted to make a suggestion for some areas that need a gold reward rework.
Wvw
-can come in the rank up chests. (buff from ~ 20 silver to ~ 75 silver)
Fractals
- I think this gold reward should increase by tier (1g for 1-10 and 5g for 50)
Open world/Exploration
- reward here is so minimal it’s not worth doing if one isn’t appealed by legendaries. Maybe a buff for gold reward for events or exploration chests?
Pvp
-A gold reward for finishing a tier of rewards as well as the original reward eg. Cof tier reward = arm or box + 5g
I understand that buffing gold rewards increases inflation. Perhaps the game is in need of more gold sinks.
I think a new t4 cultural tier of armor would be cool.
Maybe a merchant similar to the lunar New year merchant who could sell useful different things every day but only one buy per account.
I know the xpac is being released soon but please, do make it easier for people who focus on other areas of the game (besides dungeons) to enjoy crafting end game aesthetics/gear
Thank you for reading. Suggestions welcome.
Whilst normally I disagree with these posts, I am agreeing today. Most of the other God armor/weapons can be crafted. This should be no different.
Most people don’t care as long as you do the right things and wear the right gear. It is the same if a wvw player wants to do dungeons (cough zerker cough) But shouting out in map chat “kitten COMANDER JUST TAKE VELOKA ALREADY” or something similar is going to get you abuse. If you ask them politely I am sure they will appease you as soon as they can.
For WvW jumping puzzles sure, as you can’t just park an alt and claim the chest every day.
Other jumping puzzles could of course be modified to require a key/buff you claim midway the puzzle.
I hadn’t actually thought of this…
I guess you could get ported back to the start once you open the chest? Kind of ruins the suggestion haha.
