Actually it might happen when you go from underwater to normal combat, and vice verca…

Just confirmed it. Every-time I transition from underwater land or the other way around… the skill becomes unable to be activated.

Usually happens in combat, but I see it happen other times as well, Embrace the Darkness will not activate…

Character does the animation
5 energy is lost
Animation completes
Does not activate, energy regenerates, no buff on buff bar.

Swapping legends seems to fix the issue, it might have to do with costumes provided by renown hearts but I’m not sure.

Winter's presence obtained!....but

Dear Anet,

I finally obtained Winter’s presence. It’s super cool and looks amazing. HOWEVER!…

I do not have a problem with the requirements, or the time/gold investment. What I do have a problem with, is that it is a shoulder skin. This goes for Nightfury and any future effects.

This means
1) Incompatible with any shoulder skins (including the awesome scarf that I had to buy in the gem store!) being a skin itself. The scarf and winter’s presence seems like they belong together but alas, no go.Solstice,
2) Does not work with outfits. Including the Winter/snow themed Winter’s Solstice, Arctic explorer, and the Fancy Winter outfit. Again, combinations that seem like they should go together.

It doesn’t seem like such a big deal to some, but with the requirements of this skin/effect, it feels demoralizing to be limited in my creativity.

RESOLUTION: Since we seem to be coming out with character effects, please create a slot just for them. This can be put next to the outfit slot, and have it’s own hide/show checkbox. This would allow for many more armor combinations, and make character effects it’s own cosmetic item.

Please leave constructive criticism, and a word from a dev would be nice. At least let me know if it’s on the table

Get rid of Orange Adverts at top right [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tonyajc.2618

So Anet are now on a mission to fill the top right of my screen with adverts for things they are apparently insisting I read constantly.

Is there any way to get rid of “Forsaken Thicket” this and “pvp leagues” that? Now with extra “ESL blah blah pro league” I really couldn’t give a monkeys about these things

How do I get rid of them and I dunno maybe suppress all future spam that I don’t want up there? Adblock plus plus maybe?

How can I make it go away?

I second this. One of the things about GW2 that bugs me so much is the UI and how strict it is! Coming from GW1, where you were able to move almost (if not everything) on the screen around, resize it, etc etc.

In GW2 you can’t move anything around other than some sizes and its frustrating. Especially when the selected target is on the top of the screen…I try to click something or do an AoE up there…and it just clicks the UI?

PLEASE Anet, action camera was amazing, but let us control the UI the way we used to!

1) Gold adverts at the top of the screen. I am totally OK with this, being oblivious, it is nice to see whats new. HOWEVER, let us hide it after we have seen it once. Just make a check box next to it or put it in the achievements watch-list as an option there. Show it at first, but then let us hide it.

2)Hero Story and Daily achievements. Same mentality. I have 9 characters, not of them have completed their story, and not all of them WILL. Please let me hide it or deactivate my story from the story menu until I wish to continue. Sometimes I don’t want to do dailies either. Let me check those off.

3)Chat, skill bar, selected target, current buffs/conditions, map, story progress. Let me move them around on the screen and re size them separately. Or let me hide certain objects all together.

I really appreciate removing all the clutter skills and cleaning up the particle effect mess this game can be, but honestly one of the biggest offenders is the UI. Please take this request to heart and see if at least one guy can be spared to be working on this. It would be such a life improvement.

Event Inactivity Timer/Issue

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: tonyajc.2618

tonyajc.2618

I understand the mentality of the event inactivity timer, it makes sense. It’s good so people don’t go all around the map instead of completing events all the way through. But my gosh it still needs work.

I just did two events in a row in Verdant brink (ok, 1 bugged, 1 fine, and then the other bugged), where I was not given my reward due to ‘inactivity’.

First was escorting Dr Elly to the base. I rezzed 2 pact soldiers, fought some mobs, made sure DR elly got to the base, but because she took so long talking to the other 2 NPCs from their events, I was given event inactivity. I had the event all the way until she made it to the destination, but then got nothing.

Same thing after we appointed Dr elly as the leader of this base. Went out, rezzed 2 pact soldiers, saw no more in my area, found 5 of them and followed them to the base. INACTIVITY.

I’m sorry!? I know Sylvari have a hard time in HoT but I didn’t think the good doctor was going to be racist against my Sylvari Warrior!! Seriously though…this system needs to get worked on. I don’t remember having a problem with the system until recently, I feel like something might have changed in one of the patches.

TL:DR = Event inactivity, Good idea, NEEDS WORK.

Condi/prec build question

in Warrior

Posted by: tonyajc.2618

tonyajc.2618

Hey all, so I’ve been playing with ‘fun’ builds. I know it might not be top DPS and is probably far from it, but I’m just trying to play with new combos.

The biggest fear I have with this template, is lack of sustainability. It is a crit/condi/power build that revolves around granting fury and high condi damage. Longbow for ranged if I need it.

Core tyria I will have no problems, and dungeons should be easy. My fear is HoT maps. Should I swap some gear for toughness gear? Swap out sundering leap for a more defensive skill? Or should I be just fine in HoT maps?

I probably pumped too much precision since fury/blademaster will increase my crit % and I could see swapping out some of that gear for sustainability gear.

Any tips?

edit I left out consumables because I have a terrible habit of forgetting to use them. Whoops. Maybe I can just use consumables to increase healing power/sustainability?

Is the story to short?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: tonyajc.2618

tonyajc.2618

No, it’s not.

You need to remember that someone playing through from the start will play through the core story, living world season 2, the HoT story, and any living world and future expansion pack stories in the future.

The game, unlike other MMOs, will have today’s content still playable 2 expansions from now.

Core story, Living story 2, and HoT are seperate lore entities. HoT has a price, and you have to pay for Living story 2 (or at least I had to back when I missed it first time around) When we are talking about Heart of thorns, it is purely those 4 maps and living story that I think we should be discussing. You don’t need HoT to play Living story 2, and vice versa.

Now here’s the thing. Core story was really expansive and had a lot of potential, but it fell short on delivery. Living story season 2 was a great improvement on delivery. HoT story, was delivered FANTASTICALLY. The cutscenes, dialouge, everything about it was great. However, it felt rushed and short yes. It is almost the same amount of story (if not less) compared to Living story 2. I always bought GW for the story, starting at prophecies, and I was really digging the personal story for HoT. I didn’t even rush it, it took a week for me to complete while exploring and enjoying Halloween as well. But it was short, and just kind of ended.

Was the story bad? No not at all. Was it short and rushed? To me, a player that has been with ANET since Prophecies, yes it felt completely short. Eye of the north had more story than HoT did and costed less when it was released.

People seem to forget that GW2 has evolved from just a regular MMO with stats and stuff. There is an action element that has always been part of the game, and HoT makes this more relevant. Honestly I love it.

But to my disbelief I could not heal , hmmm I wondered, Then I saw the small arched

I can only use my healing spells in celestial form AND for only 15 seconds !
well that totally took me by surprise, I wanted to be able to use those skills whenever I wanted . What a let down
Am I missing something here ? did they really do that?
Now I have to stance dance ? UGH !!!!!!

That is enough to feel like a reaper and enjoy playing it. You absolutely don’t need 400 HP to enjoy playing a reaper.

You might want to consider changing the word, “you,” to, “I,” as you cannot really speak for what someone else enjoys.

When you make your character he doesn’t pop out level 80 with all skills, he is sub-optimal.

Then you progress in the game to build your character.

Expansion is no different.

Hope this helps.

When you first create a character he is level one in a level one area facing level one foes. Training an elite spec means playing your character at essentially sub level 80 while in a post 80 zone facing post 80 opponents. Its not progressing your character, its regressing him and then working your way back up to where you were before.

Not really regressing anything. All classes are perfectly capable of playing the entire expansion without their elite spec. He/She still has their awesome gear, existing traits and weapon choices that have worked and WILL work for the game, until maybe the Raids are released.

A character that equips an elite spec initially has fewer active traits, etc, than a character with all three of his spec lines assigned to core specs. This means that he is regressing his power level by equipping the elite spec. He then can level up the elite spec to return to the power level he was at (three fully active specs) prior to equipping the elite spec.

And yet that is the players choice to spec an unfinished line. Same thing with 1-80. You can unlock multiple trait lines but only use 1 until a certain level. It is the players choice to play with an unfinished spec line if he or she so chooses.

And missing a couple traits is not going to stop you from finishing the content either…but like I said, Raids are probably going to be different.

Nothing is regressed…you are adding more possibility.

Some want everything at once, others like me, want to enjoy what the game has to offer at a pace. It’s not even a super slow pace, it’s actually nice.

9/10 for me. Only issue I had with it they patched/are patching today. Itzel poison lore for story was kind of silly, but all the other mastery gates are perfectly fine. Just like personal story requiring a certain level.

I’m still super hyped and would be playing it tonight as soon as I got home if I didn’t have other plans after work.

Surprising how Tyria has horses, yet no one has seen one yet! What a weird anomoly

Mounts would actually fix some of the complaints about the game being unsoloable. WP are far fewer and people could get from point a to point b without fighting a horde of enemies every trip without the fear of death and WP miles away to make the trip all over again.

Also I’ve been to every map aside two of them and I haven’t seen anything greater than a small pond with like 3 skelk so I have no idea where this salt water is coming from? I do know underwater weapons have become even more worthless though..

I was just making a joke on how people are ‘salty’ about the expansion. Just a bit of fun. Though there is actually some salt water in the Jungle!

How is this different from personal story requiring a certain level? Both are achieved through EXP gain. To me this feels natural, and they realized and removed the only high requirements mastery for story.

This is no different from Personal story, except the expansions story is WAY better.

you could level up in multiple different zones, doing many different things (even just crafting, or doing dailies, or doing world bosses, everything grants exp), however when it comes to HoTs masteries (at least those that matter for HoT story anyway), you’re locked into solely only doing very few events or killing mobs (HoTs zones only as well by the way) in order to grind masteries in order to see more of the story.

I haven’t actively looked for any crafting stations in Jungle maps but I would have assumed they gave you exp for mysteries…I already maxed out most of the crafting disciplines anyways though. You should still be able to do bosses in the jungle and they added adventures, which gave a TON of EXP. Not to mention Masteries are account wide so you can go do these on alternate characters if you wish. Not sure how repeatable adventures are though haven’t tested replay-ability.

The only thing I really agree on, is I wish you could work on Maguuma and base world masteries no matter where you are. I am slightly bummed out when I went to Orr for a change of pace, and my Maguuma masteries wouldn’t level. Other then that, I actually really enjoy the system and lets me multitask with getting new gear/plants/stuff from the jungle while leveling masteries.

EXACTLY. Remember Vanilla Guildwars 2 on release….. You had to earn those utilty’s and even then couldn’t unlock all your skills when a new section opened because of lack of skill points. It seems people have forgotten that. Slow down and enjoy the story and hidden secrets.

First, you can unlock hero points at wvw, it is already known, check the patch notes.

Second most of the Champions at hero points are soloable just learn to play and use the mechanics the game provides you(consumables).
I have ran through plenty of group hero points and I have easily soloed them on my tempest.

I talk about the WvW hero points in my original post. It’s still a huge grind, just a different kind.

Champions are in no way soloable. You can hardly even do them with 1 party. So what will happen when people move away from this content after they finish it and want to play somewhere else? How will solo players get their elite specs? Grinding ranks in WvW I guess, fun eh?

I’m not sure how the Champions are not soloable, small party completion. The Majority of the Hero points I’ve gotten in the Jungle so far have been done with 1-3 people. Just the other day I walked in on one guy soloing a hero point, I joined him, asked him slow down since a guild mate was coming, and we just kitted the guy for a minute for the guildie to come. (Though my minion killed him so we had to do it again anyways)

The majority of these challenges are easy to complete with just one other person.

Have you gone through the second and third maps? Even on the first map when I tried to do one challenge with 2 other guildies, I immediately went down and two seconds later another guildee went down as well.

This is a big problem for solo players who don’t like to party with others and organize people. You should be able to do them on your own like the previous Tyria challenges.

The only map I haven’t played on, been to is the last one. So I have no input on it. But so far they majority of them (not all of them) are do-able. We might have gone down once or twice but we just had to get used to the mobs mechanic.

Full berserker/assassins gear, not much defense. Maybe the Reapers life pool and stealing health helped? I tend to run blood magic for funzies.

Didn’t know where to put this but…

I just wanted to thank everyone on the GW2 team for making this expansion what it is. I started playing Guild Wars since Prophecies, right before Factions, and I have to say this has gone a long way.

First of all, the Story. I haven’t finished it yet but IMMEDIATELY I noticed a huge improvement on the story. I loved GW1 for all it’s interesting lore and hidden things you could find, but the main story was also fun and interesting back then. GW2 on release, while fun, never gave me the same appeal unfortunately. The personal story was ok for the most part, but the delivery was odd, especially the characters standing next to each other with a weird background talking side by side. Some scenes seemed force and it was hard to connect with the characters (that I fell in love with in the books by the way!). The Characters, while still sometimes cheesy, is a good kind of cheesy and more real to me, easier to see as people and not npcs!

This feels more like how a story should be provided! In-game beautiful cut scenes, open world dialogue, amazing music and fun story quests. There would have to be something huge for me not to like the end of this story so far…I love it! I can see how living story season 2 and evolved story presentation process and you guys took it even further!

The Mastery System and Hero challenges.

No complaints other than the Itzel poison lore requirement, which you guys are removing today anyways (It seemed excessive)! Because of the way everything is structured, unlocking your elite specialization, story progression through small mastery locks, and exploring with new masteries, this feels like a full-fledged game, and not just an update or a small expansion! The hero points give me a sense of progression like when GW2 first came out. I didn’t have all my utility skills and elite skills at the start, I had to work for them and unlocking each new skill was an experience to try out. Remember in GW1 when you had to go kill a certain boss, that only spawned in one area, and you would steal his elite? That is what hero points feel like to me, and I love it. It feels like perfect pacing! I don’t feel like I am playing 4 slightly larger maps, I feel like I am playing almost an entire game’s worth of content. I realize some of it is smoke and mirrors, but that’s not a bad thing to me. It feels natural.

Elite specializations!

Not super overpowered, (except for my Reaper which I love dangit!) but they add more spice to the mix without completely negating older play styles! I’m sure someone will min max and figure out a best beta, but for fun they feel like an addition, not a requirement. This is what is crucial when adding new skills/traits to a game. I love it. New stat sets are something I want to try out as well.

I haven’t had this much fun since, honestly, Eye of the North for GW1. Thank you very much guys, the Guild Wars I loved is back for me. After a 2-3 year gap of not playing GW2 (between release and living world season 1) I’m happy to say I’m back for good! FANTASTIC WORK! From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Got green event chest from Auric Basin Meta event chain (Failed event). Unable to open. Every time I click the chest, the game immediately crashes. Already sent bug report.

I guess my issue with the Mordrem snipers is I’ve seen them spam their snipe skill. I guess between projectile nullification with skills, evades, and terrain could take care of one or two, but any more and you run the risk of running into more mobs (not to mention patrols)

It also seems like a lot of elite specilizations/new class and new skills revolve around the new mobs and playstyle in HoT. Giving more reflects/blocks/evades. They still have a cooldown however.

Deflecting shot on guardian
Field of the Mists on Revenant
Shattering blow on warrior
Daredevil has 3 evades
Echo of Memory on Mesmer

I’m tempted to just go thief and spam Black powder…But something I’ve seen a lack of in this thread is helpful advice. I see people posting learn to play, but what could I do differently? I’m already timing my evades on big hitting skills, using terrain to block archers when I can, popping protection skills when needed, and still have problems keeping up. What am I missing?

I know from experience that high toughness doesn’t do much of anything in the new map. You can still get one shot with 3300 armor.

Does this mean damage done to us by specific skills are based on percentage of max health, and not our armor/toughness rating? This would make Vitality and toughness useless

So far the beta weekends have been a cool glimpse of the new profession mechanics and area, but often I find myself dying when exploring by myself to certain mobs. Some vets have even given me trouble when in the past vets have been no issue.

I’ll try to block, evade, or use specific skills when needed, like with the mordrem snipers, I tried to use berserkers new rage skill to deflect the arrows and such. But I always seem to be outpaced or caught by another mob.

Is this the general experience? Am I just playing horribly or is this Anets way of saying “Hey guys, let’s start using those toughness/vitality stats”. If so I don’t mind, it makes more things useful and ultimately fun. As much as I loved the condition damage update, Berserkers is still almost always the way to go, but it does make things like burning Guardian fun.

What is your experience with the new expansion mobs? Any tips to help me improve? I’m going to try another rune/armor set when I get home tonight to see if toughness even helps but it is kind of cool we have these mobs. Just hard to keep track of with all the special effects on the screen haha.
