What I think, is that as the Pact drew closer to Mordremoth, the madness in the Sylvari Pact Soliders became greater and consumed them. What bothers me is that Trahearne, a firstborn, was able to shrug it off and fight with Destiny’s Edge. It could be his sword, or it could be that fact he came directly from the Pale Tree which made him resistant. Perhaps secondborns or other generations of Sylvari are more susceptible to Mordremoth (Scarlett or Ciera for example). I hypothesize the Pale Tree might have needed help resisting Mordremoth herself, and could have had help from Glint or other magics. Being around her could make other Sylvari resistant also, and in her current weakened state it could explain why it was so easy for him to take over the soldiers.

So many things though from the previous LS make sense from this revelation, and they really did do a good job. When Scarlett said she knew Caithe’s secret, she might be referring to this scene. Considering she is an agent of Mordremoth, and how the minions of dragons and dragons share a telepathic link with knowledge (like Zhaitan) this makes sense. This can also explain why the Inquest are drawn to use Sylvari to fuel their Golems, as dragons consume magic and Sylvari are reservoirs of dragon magic. It might also explain why Zhaitan was unable to turn them into minions, as perhaps no two dragons can lay claim to the same species. Either way, this was an intriguing and exciting way to conclude the LS.

All of our current Sylvari come straight from the Pale tree so Trahearne doing this makes no sense. On the other hand it’s possible it differs between everyone. Trahearne would be able to shrug it off more I suppose than others. Nightmare Court can probably be consumed much more easily.

Maybe Trahearne was already slightly corrupted even before this. Mordremoth could have influenced Trahearne to make a stupid decision and carry out a doomed plan.

Maybe you could have told Trahearne it was a bad idea to…you know…just start shooting wildly into the trees like a madman(salad?) hoping to hit something.

Just saying, never doubt the power of the player.

edit: There is also the possibility that Mordremoth made him command the pact to do that. Mordremoth corrupts the leader of the pact, who just happens to be a sylvari, and influences him to make bad calls and doom the mission.

First off, let me just say WOW. Wow that ending cs!

But when I was watching the part with Destiny Edge falling off of the burning pact ship,
something hit me. The Player = Logan.

Your character had a personal duty/issue that they had to resolve and because of that they didn’t join the fleet in time. (And depending on what happened at the end, may have gotten Eir, Logan, Zojja, and Trahearne killed.) Your character abandoned them when they needed you. History just repeated itself.

Did anyone else get this vibe or am I just thinking into this too much?

Actually, Dry Top is where Ettin’s Back and Aurora Glade are already. So the next area is north of there. Mamnoon Lagoon. Ironically if you chart Dry Top from GW1, the actual “Dry Top” area from GW1 is not accessible yet. It’s south of the leyline cave.

Gw2 coming on Wiiu?

I’m sorry, but the Wii U? Of all the consoles on the market, that is the one you would like GW2 on… I’m trying to be the least rude as possible here, but I did chuckle a little.

Anyhow, Vol is certainly right. ANY console version of GW2 would cause problems, we see this going on with many other mmos right now. Certification, console limitations. The entire engine would need reworked. As a longtime FFXI player, I still shudder at the phrase “PS2 Limitations”.

To be honest, parts of the role of the Dervish still exist within the Guardian, as Guardians partly specialize in enchantments and support. But yes, some things are still missing from the good old Dervish. The most obvious being Scythes, which have been mixed into certain staffs. But I also feel “Enchantment Tear-down” isn’t properly represented in GW2 the way a Dervish did it. I also feel there should have been a proper light armor martial class. Lore-wise Dervishes may not exist anymore. After the silence of the 6 gods, dervishes may have started to feel betrayed (As Dervish is influenced by the 6 gods and prayer.) and the art was lost.

Anyhow, I’m not sure if Dervish could even function in GW2’s combat system. It would be very active and require a learning curve to even survive. With constant skill usage and enchantment removal you would have to multitask. And dodging is a whole different story aside from that. And if 1 enchantment goes down or you can’t dodge….I don’t think your light-class armor is going to save you. The point being…Dervish would need some serious reworking to adapt to GW2.

Confused about Transmutation Stones

umbrablackfell.7849

Yup. <lvl 80 characters got the costs of transmutation increased. And all process with it is now used by one universal “charge” currency. So the costs of transmutation is now the same for all levels.

"Storing" a Skin should give 1 Trans. Charge

I like this idea.

It also confirms that the “Destructive” nature of the original transmutation system still exists.

Transmutation charges should be discounted or free for a character below lvl 80.

Reason: levels 1-79 have to change their gear every 5-10 levels. A level 80 never has to anymore so there is no fear of the transmutation charge being wasted on gear that is going to be replaced in 5 levels. You will still get sale of the charges to people because a portion of the player base likes to change their look every so often.

Alright, I’m done. I guess I’m the only one seeing this new system as a disguised cash grab.

I’ll just go back to wearing trash looking armor until from lvl 1-79.

No one is disputing that fact that it is a way for Anet to earn more money. I don’t even think it is disguised, anyone with half a brain can tell.

It IS beneficial for us too.
Why do players have to jump at every move Anet makes to make more money?

“Anet only cares about money.”
“Gem sales is all they want.”

Guys, just because you have nothing to do but playing games at home doesn’t mean these people has got nothing to do but make games for you.

NCSoft is not a name of a guy with no life hiding in a basement making games. It is kitteng NCSoft Corporation.
It has an office.
It has a board.
It has employees.

Yes just like the one your dad or mom goes to work for every morning to pay for your school fees and useless game stuff.

I sense some passive-aggressive belittling here.

Anyways, yes I understand that NCSoft/Anet is not “just some guy”. It is a living breathing corporation that makes person to person decisions on how to survive while bringing the best services to it’s customers to make them happy.

But sometimes dumb decisions get through. This new system negatively affects altoholics, new players, casuals, and players who generally want to look “cool” at all times. I doubt all of that is a “minority”.

New Transmute Costs Bad for Leveling Players

Agree on all points here. Anet has made it so transmutation is worthless for <80 characters. There really should be some kind of discount or reduction of transmutation for pre-80s. It’s not really fair at all when you consider a pre-80 is changing gear every 5-10 levels when a lvl 80 never has to, yet the costs of charges are the same.

I already got 140 charges and I haven’t spent neither gold
nor real money for them.
I doubt I will ever get to use all these,or that the rate of usage
will exceed the rate of acquire.
As for pre lvl 80 transmutes, why bother?
It takes less than a month to casually level a toon to 80,and
with instant lvl 20s and tomes it can be less than a minute.
Why spend resources on gear that you will use only for a few days?

Maybe because not everyone piled up transmute stones/crystals.
Maybe because not everyone likes to rush to lvl 80 asap.
Maybe because some people like to have a bunch of alts to switch to and like to have specific appearances on them.

What has changed is that anet has screwed over both low and high level players alike.

As stated previously, yes you got stones from just simple map completion. But that was 3 of them. Now for any low level to want to level up to 80 in a specified appearance they either have to buy gems, or complete a map 6 times. It used to be 2 times for 6 stones. 2 is not 6…Yes this makes lvl 1s on the same place as a lvl 80. But now, everyone has to work harder.

To sum it up: Transmuting anything below level 80 is a waste of time and resources now. People shouldn’t be punished for wanting a set appearance.

EDIT: Not everyone is lvl 80 in a week >_> Or even a month for that matter…

First off, i must ask. Why are we being punished for wanting a specific character appearance. Anet seems to be treating it like it’s a privilege.

This new charge system makes it harder to transmute stuff! If I remember correctly, Anet said in the wardrobe article that the previous system was “Destructive” and had high “Gating” for new players making it hard to access.

I do a city map completion, what do I get? 1 CHARGE. And charges are still only obtainable from map completion, gem store, and occasionally a daily reward.

Also as someone else pointed out in another thread. This system now makes you choose between using a charge for a skin, or keeping said skin to use for free by taking up inventory space.

This system makes it the same or even MORE difficult for new players to transmute anything.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the wardrobe system. It makes the skin system a lot less stressful by not having to pile on skins to keep later and makes creating a look a lot less expensive. But once those initial charges wear out, I will have to struggle just to change an entire armor’s look.

We need either charges to be more numerous from rewards or make charges obtainable from somewhere else. It’s pretty much fork over the money for gems, or grind a city map completion 6 times to make armor.

IMO, Ways to make mesmer a mesmer again

in Mesmer

Now before I start let me say I have only leveled mesmer to 50ish. I am not lvl 80 and therefor can’t speak for anyone max level (Although with some of the stuff I am about to say, the principal is probably the same.)

I feel like the initial “Mesmer” from gw1 is now lost and cannot regain ground on where is was previously.

Mesmer in gw1 was a class mainly about denial, control, and turning an enemy against itself. It was very powerful. It could change entire missions and turn them around. In some cases it was a must in some parties. Mesmer in gw2 is not the same.

It’s initial role has changed from slightly to drastically. To clone spammer to just being used for portal. It has fallen from grace. It’s weapon choices can be difficult aside from just a few good ones. And its skills are mostly lackluster at best.

These are the changes I feel would make mesmer a little more “Mesmer” again.

1: Make Confusion better.
This is mesmer’s defined condition. And it sucks. It is too short, too little damage, and relies on luck when applying. Remember when I said mesmer in gw1 was about control and turning an enemy against itself. Yeah…Confusion should be good. It should be used as a main damage source for mesmers. In gw1 using an enemy’s actions against itself was a common way for a mesmer to control, deal damage, and sweep a battlefield quickly. Confusion shouldn’t be punished with low damage and short duration. Confusion can also be useful when used in conjunction with other conditions like…..

2: Give Mesmer more Weakness!
To me, weakness seems to be geared more towards necro and war in this game. This condition, like confusion, should also be mesmer’s defined condition. Weakness is an element of denial. Denying an enemy the opportunity to hit or do damage. Use it in conjunction with confusion you have an enemy hurting itself while contributing nothing to the battle….classic mesmer.

3: Bring back the “readying skill” UI from GW1!
One of the things that made a mesmer’s job easier in gw1 was that bar that appeared below an enemy’s name when it was readying something. In gw2 just visual ques are not enough! Making a useful stun mesmer is hard to manage in gw2 as timing things basically requires not blinking…0_o. This UI element served as a STUN NOW! button as well as a GTFO! button for melees.

Above all, I just want my master of control back! A class so powerful it could change the tide of a battle with a single skill, but required a high learning curve to master.

Still though, even if anet makes charges the same price as crystals as the exchange rate may show, that means players below lvl 80 are now paying more for transmutation compared to stones.

Does anyone know if a transmutation charge is consumed per piece of equipment changed or if it is consumed per transmute process? As in, you can transmute any number of equipment, but when you apply the changes it only consumes 1 charge?
