Boss Outlines

I’ve been running dungeons with some friends that are new to the game and i noticed that a lot of the difficulty they faced came from two sources:

1. Noticing what the boss was doing with all the particle clutter on the boss.
2. Noticing when they had aggro.

My suggestion is that bosses get an easy to see, white outline so that they’re always silhouetted. This would allow newer players to more easily understand where the boss is at all times and when they’re performing certain attack/spell animations.

In addition, when the boss targets the player, the outline would change from white to red. This would give the players immediate feedback that would allow them to react faster.

TL;DR: White outlines on bosses to give newer users more feedback, red outlines when the players get aggro.

Thanks for listening let me know what you think!

So what's the reasoning behind nerfing us even further underwater?

Why am i forced in pvp to switch from mage main weapon to something that has absolutely nothing to do with the class in the first place? like the freaking daggers… who comes up with these ideas? elementalist might aswell just get this cool looking glock pistol yo!

I have the same reason for playing Staff ele, daggers just not “fit” the class for me (It´s a caster, if you read something about casters in any RPG rules such as D&D, you know what I mean), scepter is nice and “fits”, but not my playstyle though. So I´m stuck with staff and getting ***kicked right in the moment I made the slightest mistake that any other class can overcome.
But I love the idea of attunements, so I stick with my Ele until Anet totally destroys him…

Actually… most roleplaying games let ‘mages, wizards, etc’ use any sort of weapon as something to channel their magic power through, daggers being a very popular choice.

On a side note…. how does a spinning thief reflect projectiles and a friggin tornado take them to the face?

It’s because they aren’t bug fixes as far as I can tell. Looks like they are just changing their minds on attacking behind you and making it look like they are actually doing it. All of these types of fixes could have been done in a few minutes after the first one… unless of course their programmers are terrible at organizing code…. Really…. these aren’t bug fixes. Just Anet saying “oops guess we don’t want that so instead of fixing real bugs we will just pretend to spend time on these and list them as if they were real fixes”.

I’m going to have to agree with you, especially on the fixes involving traits… things like applying the cool down reduction to mistform should be such a mindless fix… It’s like they have ONE GUY fixing EVERYTHING.

I’m very curious as to how their project management is… if i fixed bugs at the rate they did at work, i wouldn’t have a job for long >.<

What bothers me isn’t that the list exists… it’s how little each of these weekly updates ‘fix’. Most other mmo’s resort to daily updates for the first couple of months that are each much bigger than one of their ‘weekly’ updates. I can’t begin to fathom a code base that’s so complex that it requires so much attention for such insignificant fixes…

in a month’s time we’ve gotten, what, fixes to all of our abilities shooting backwards? That’s pretty alarming…

no, the changes arenanet said they would make for MH daggers and our downed state.

Edit: sorry for my lack of clarity >.<

Making dungeons give skill-based rewards

in Suggestions

Make it so that dungeons give you rewards not based on completion but on how well you performed while completing it. Ideally the rewards for optimal performance would be gear but it can work with the token system.

example:

Finish the dungeon without dying: + 10 tokens.
Finish the dungeon in under 30 minutes: +10 tokens.

Also, each of the ‘skill rewards’ should be locked on a per-day basis per dungeon. This would encourage players to try out all the dungeons for optimal token rewards.

I believe this system gives players clear goals to strive for within the dungeons and can make the ‘grinding’ process a little less painful.

Clarity/Transparency in regards to profession updates/fixes

I understand that you guys(Arenanet) use an iterative development process and, as a result, don’t like to give much information on the plans for professions. That being said, I think it would be fair to give us, As a community, more information on the status of things like bug fixes, I.e. how is the fix for ride the lightning coming along, have you guys even looked into it? Any bit of information would help!

It should be noted that the people posting on the forums ARE NOT the programmers fixing the bugs. There’s a completely separate team for Public Relations, there is NO EXCUSE for the silence in these forums. We’re running around like headless chickens.

Actually, ANet generally has their staff shy away from posting about stuff that isn’t in their realm of expertise. For example, Jeff Vaughn posts a lot in the personal story subforum as that is what he’s working on. Robert Hrouda post regularly in the dungeons forum as he works to fix things there.

I’m fairly new to the forums and assumed they worked a certain way, I stand corrected. Thank you for the clarification. That being said, i really wish they would throw us a bone, any bone. “We are aware that there are issues” is the most generic thing possible and should not be able to pass off as valid information.

Try playing a Funcom game and see how much dev interaction you get, lol. Anet is head and shoulders above that for sure.

What’s the point of comparing Arenanet to other companies? Why set the bar so low? I personally had VERY HIGH expectations and respect for Arenanet being a much better company in terms of PR than almost everyone else. Honestly, throughout the beta, they were, they addressed issues immediately and followed through… I don’t know what happened to that :\

The blind fanboyism is ridiculous. I’ve loved Guild Wars since it first came out… but to have people constantly defend Arenanet… Yea, because the 30 minutes it takes them to write down their plan is really going to completely take away from all their bug fixing. I am in complete awe at how silent Arenanet has been, I honestly expected a HECK of a lot better.

This is not fanboism, for me it’s much better to see exploits being resolved rather than receive buffs which would become null because of these exploits from other professions

I’m not asking for buffs, look at my previous posts. I never demand any of that. I simply want the TRANSPARENCY that was promised by arenanet. They’ve made one post on our forums and it was to change the title of a post -.- also, i understand what it’s like to be in a high stress job, heck i’m a programmer that works on fixing bugs 90% of most days. It should be noted that the people posting on the forums ARE NOT the programmers fixing the bugs. There’s a completely separate team for Public Relations, there is NO EXCUSE for the silence in these forums. We’re running around like headless chickens.

A company has to deliver a non faulty product to customers. If the customers are unhappy with the services of the product, the company has problem. Simple as that!

A company also has priorities, issues that are more pressing than others. There’s a clear intention of fixing the necromancer before the elementalist. It’s perfectly justified.

We are in the elementalist’s board. Like as typicall seen in any profession boards, the people of said profession think they are the only victims and everyone else is better than them. Oh sure, we elementalists are one of the most underpowered professions out there, but the necromancers have have been broken with 90-100+ bugs, and overpowered skills from other professions affect the entire playerbase, while the udnerpowered skills of the elementalist only affect the elementalist’s fanbase. It’s perfectly understandable why those matters were given priority.

That doesn’t justify them not giving us ANY idea of when we can expect any sort of dedication. Most of us are just tired of being left in the dark, it seems. It’s frustrating to not know what direction my favorite profession is going to be headed in, or when any sort of change will be made.

they may not ‘owe us anything’ but completely ignoring us and not being vocal with what their PLAN is, is just bad PR. They’ve always talked big about being ‘transparent’ but the fact of the matter is that we haven’t heard ANYTHING about what their plans for the Elementalist is post launch.

Yes! It would be wonderful to get some clarity on what exactly they plan on doing with the elementalists. If the bugs are just very difficult to fix (i can understand how ride the lightning can be a hard bug to fix) and they need more time, fine, whatever, just please COMMUNICATE with us.

Zephyr’s boon only gives me 5 seconds of swiftness/fury instead of the 10 that it says on the wiki. Was this changed recently?
