If you seriously winning 1/20 games then I think there is something wrong with the way you play. I honestly don’t even believe you have 1/20 win rate ,you probably are just exaggerating to get attention .
If you are playing at your level, your games should be more or less equal and your win rate should be close to 50/50.
Curiously enough, all people here claiming they have huge win-steaks, 20-30-40 games in a row, as much as it makes them happy, are also a proof that the system doesn’t work because that means they are not playing at their level either.
Unless you also accuse them all of lying…
Well, I played 260 games and I got only one 3 games win-streak, if you can call it that, in amber, 3 times I had 2 wins in a row. Been playing for 3 weeks from the very start.
It’s hard to find a guild that would be able to do ranked pvp and except new players on the team.
Considering “the community” all you get is various “l2p no one is here to carry you noob” kinda stuff, so soloQ is the only option.
And it’s funny how Anet insists on their formulas working while the system is not functioning after and throughout 20 days.
OK, 3 weeks into this season, I played another 20 games today.
One win out of 20, as usual, no progress, all blowouts.
I’m not playing at my level as promised.
Everything Anet tells you about how MMR works is a big fat lie so far, proven by statistics.
See you next week!
This data won’t make much sense w/o initial level and number of games played before the season.
This system apparently destroys games for new players.
A week has passed since the implementation of leagues. We all know it would be chaotic at the start, but it would be interesting to see if the chaos is declining with time.
So here is the 1-week followup to collect some data. If you can supply some quick information, that would be great:
1) Day you started ranked league (e.g., last Tuesday was day 1)
2) Your division.
3) Is your win-rate below 50%?
4) Stuck, or are you advancing?
5) Are you experiencing huge loss-streaks?
6) Are you continuing to play in Ranked?Hopefully this will give us a qualitative sense for how the leagues are equilibrating with time (ANet has this data but we don’t!). Thanks!
1. Day 1
2. Emerald
3. Win rate 1 out of 20
4. No progress after 250 games
5. Yes
6. Sometimes I play another 20 games, just to check that nothing changes at all
I don’t really care about divisions and what not, I want to play at my level and have equal games in ranked pvp, so I can have fun, is that too much to ask?
Why create a system that just completely destroys your gaming experience and that’s all it does?
Can my MMR be set to zero or -1 so I could finally play? Not a single game makes sense.
(edited by void.6217)
I started from level 20, day 1 in ranked pvp, I would win 1 game out of 20.
Now, 2 weeks later and after 250 games, I still win 1 game out of 20, there is absolutely no change in statistics.
My MMR can’t go up when I lose so many games, my MMR doesn’t go down either because at my level I should have 50/50 chance to win.
So the system either doesn’t work or it takes way longer than 2 weeks for it to do something noticeable?
19 games out of 20 are complete blowouts, then 1 game is a blowout with me on the winning team and this pattern never breaks.
Considering the whole season is 2 months, how long does it actually take for the system to sort players?
(edited by void.6217)
1. Tempest, Scrapper
2. Oceanic
3. Emerald
4. Any hours any day
So you either need Cleansing water to help you hold against condi necros or you run aurashare but then don’t really hold against them solo?
I’m running this
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Tempest_-_D/F_Aura_Share
They put a lot of AoE on the point while they don’t have to stay on the point, so it’s like free dmg.
They can easily stay outside of overloads and I can’t leave the point, so overloads are not very effective unless I miss some tactics here?
(edited by void.6217)
Can a good tempest hold a point against two necros? I can’t shake the amount of condi dmg with 2 shouts and a cleansing wave. Is it because of my low skills or are you supposed to be worn out and go down eventually by the game mechanics?
This one mention as good?
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Engineer_-_Flamethrower_Condi
over this one mentioned as great?

Imagine you are among the worst few dozen players, so first you wait for a month or so for the system “to sort itself out” then finally you are matched against people as bad as you are. You winning chances should about 50%? With that you get through emerald, 15% chance to get a division there, after a hundred of games or so you are in sapphire. Is that about right? So sapphire basically where the worst players will end up?
Who is Scarlett Brandt?
Photoshop skills – check; Attention to detail – fail
Did you experience people offering how to teach others play PvP? Not inside your guild but on a personal basic?
Not a video game junkie, still played for a few months, this is my list (I will feel better if I unload in here):
1. Remove delayed AoE. This game is advertised as skill based, then people drop invisible AoE in stacks somewhere on the road, run away across the map and get XP and goodies long after when someone walks into it and dies. Especially in WvW where a dozen ppl can do that on the same spot.
This is a perfect troll mechanics that has nothing to do with skill, if it’s a skill game.
In WvW it also produces stalling when two groups just stand for 10 mins on both sides of a choking point trolling each other doing nothing but placing delayed AoE on the ground between.
2. Remove enclosed containers. Chests inside pouches inside bags inside boxes inside.. what?
After level 80 and some ascended gear 99% of grey green yellow and orange items are useless trash even not worth time to sell individually on the auction (plus restriction on the number of sells per minute).
Maybe it makes sense not just to give players gold instead but making them spend literary many many hours opening containers and throwing away / vendoring trash doesn’t serve any purpose.
The more slots you have in your inventory the more painful this purging procedure is, so it doesn’t serve gem selling for extra space either.
3. Remove multiple currencies. I understand having 3 or 5 but this is madness. All your efforts are scattered across so many currencies that it servers no purpose. There must be much more focus on universal currency across all those dungeon / pve / wvw / pvp ones.
If you need to buy something that involves a particular currency you can only get through a part of the game you don’t like and don’t play, you probably will go the length of it but it won’t be fun and will only annoy you a lot.
4. Reduce sexual/racial abuse trolling and real life threats in PvP. Not that it bothers me but again it’s very annoying.
I had to report and block dozens of people just in a couple of days. Comparing to PvE or WvW, PvP is like a river of filth. Winning team trolls and abuses the losing team, the losing team retaliates. The game didn’t even start yet and already you block someone. This is followed by private messages and another round of blocks and reports.
Don’t show player names in matches or remove map chat. Much easier to have a system that prevents all that then to process hundreds of reports and grief players, especially casual players who take it a a video game it is.

Has anyone else been having a very easy time this season? Im at tier 5 of emerald, and I’ve only lost 2 games so far. Lot’s of them have been blow outs. I won like 500 to 5 with an all solo team. I guess if the goal is to make skilled players progress faster it is working, but I’d also like to face some challenging opponents. I guess it will get better as I get in higher divisions since more skilled people will be there. At least this season will probably indicate skill more. Just wondering what u guys thought.
If you solo Q, this only shows that the system is severely biased to some people, because of their previous ranks or their pvp level.
There is no possible way to progress through emerald when you are randomly grouped up with players with random experience / classes what not. It will probably take about 300 games to go through 1 emerald tier by luck.
If you playing with 4 new players you won’t win even if you are pvp superstar.
If you are a newbie matched with 4 superstars most likely you will win anyway.
It’s all the inner workings of the MM system.
(edited by void.6217)
My Qs are very long, up to 5 mins and often I’m being thrown out of the queue (for an unknown reason) and have to start again, so sometimes I miss that sweet 25 sec spot when you need to press the button.
After a few misses my dishonor time is now about an hour, sometimes more than I even have time to play the game and it gets longer and longer.
Anyone knows is there a limit to it or does it ultimately block you from playing the game for many hours?
(edited by void.6217)
I’m only asking about solo Q, I will never believe in 24 wins in a row with random people.
I’d say I’m about even. I go on win streaks and I go on loss streaks as well.
Problem is, I often can’t tell if its the game making poor matchmaking that determines this, or if its my team skill.Only ever had one or two games out of plenty that were close enough to know it came down to organization. The rest was either roll or be rolled.
Yes, that surprises me too, most of the games end up 150 vs 500, there are almost no challenging games, so it feels like my effort doesn’t mean anything, just for some reason 19 times out 20 the system assigns you to 150 team that has no chance.
Ok, so I tried ranked PvP today.
On average I win one game out of 20. All other 19 games I lose with a devastating score 150 v 500 tops, sometimes less.
I’m level 20 in PvP and I win about 60-70% unranked games, so I’m not the worst PvP player for my level and I do not believe that my underperformance could cause such dramatic shift in score.
If the matchmaking system had matched people of the same level randomly into groups, the results would’ve been more like 50/50, 1 out of 20 is far off from any logic.
What your experience with Ranked PvP system has been?
Quite often if a fight after I get knocked down or stunned I can not move anymore.
Nothing helps – blinking, using waypoints etc.
The only thing that unlocks it is going to another map (talking about WvW here).
This frequent movement lock makes the game completely unplayable, it looks like it’s still in beta development or something. And I payed for this btw…
It seems that both work equally for survivability?
Would you rather have twice more armor and take twice less direct dmg or take bigger hits but have twice more health?
Say, if zerker is the most offensive, what are the next two armor types going towards protection?
Mainly roaming in a group of 3-5, in a zerg – just provide support, don’t care to be a frontline or backline
I have HoT, I’m looking to buy a set of orange armor with proper sigils runes and what not,, not sure which one though if not zerker.
I do want to deal a fair amount of damage but I need something that goes well with the build.
Will zerker gear do for wvw or is it not common?
What is the most unbalanced, obnoxiously buffed, notoriously hard to kill and in general annoying class and build?
Is there an option to turn off these extremely annoying graphic banners saying who captured what, that are distractive and clog my screen every few seconds?
Every time you go underwater and then back to the ground you lose your precast matras and all bloodlust stacks.
On some maps like EBG you need to swim quite often or to run across a swamp that gets deep enough in some places to put you underwater.
Especially annoying during a fight, when you might slip from a slope for a fraction of a second into the water or you need to chase someone who’s crossing a lake – if you follow, it cleans all 25 stacks of bloodlust and doesn’t reset mantra cds when you back to the surface, so you can’t precast it again.
It might make sense that you lose bloodlust underwater but it should pop it back when you back.
Can someone point me to a table, if it exists, of how points are assigned to each server for flipping/defending objectives and/or PvP kills in EBG?
I couldn’t easily find anything on wiki.
Thank you!
You can fight for your name or name of your community, that’s understandable. Right now you’re fighting for the name of a specific piece of hardware though; and you are assigned to that specific hardware automatically by the system.
If some company makes an unfair game based on “good” servers and “bad” servers – that’s fine.
But it must be openly stated that the game is not fair and after you pay your money to buy the game, you might be assigned to a “bad” server which will cripple your game experience and you will have either to pay more money or to work for in-game currency to transfer yourself to a “good” server.
Which makes your way to a “good” server more important than the game itself and eventually what? All people will cluster on a “good” server?
Second of all, this is absurd.
First of all, right now GW2 is sold as a fair game while a significant part of it is not, and that need to be changed.
Anyway, I think I made my point.
(edited by void.6217)
That sounds like a “fair”-EotM.
I still need my community/guild to play wvw with, so I will avoid every automatic-teams map.
You can make gvg maps on the same principle where instead of distributing individuals you distribute units of players. But again as equally as possible.
You don’t want to run your 15 ppl guild against 100 in EBG, do you? It’s fun for 10 mins then you just leave because it’s pointless.
#truthhurts I feel for you. I know what it’s like getting destroyed by greater numbers over and over and over again. Not sure I’ve got a solution for you, though. Not sure if ANET has one either.
I have a strong feeling that programming languages give you enough flexibility to make 3 teams equal in numbers at any time give or take say 10-15%.
The simplest version – assign every new player that joins a battleground to the smallest team. Disallow taxiing in. If many people leave one team, disband that team, redistribute people to other teams. If you have one huge team, split it in half etc.
I’m pretty sure that with all dynamic “dynamics” GW2 is so proud of there is an acceptable solution.
That is if you actually care or want to provide fair entertainment services.
The idea of tethering teams to servers which is an internal system division that as a customer I don’t have to even know (not to mention so much worry) about is ridiculous and is the root of all these problems.
Servers should serve to balance game workload, not affect the actual game play so dramatically.
(edited by void.6217)
I am mostly interested in WvW re GW2, I dont play PvE, Dungeons etc.
As I figured WvW is a server based matching game, where the number of people in each team heavily depends on which server you are.
I’m playing for a relatively low populated server and I’ve assigned to the red team for two months in a row now.
Every time I play, I’m severely outnumbered, I need to spend hours jumping across EBG or EOTM to even find a tag or play 1v5 or 1v10.
Apparently you can not change to a server that is full and in general you need to pay money to change the server.
I payed as much money as everyone else for this game and I’m not just at huge disadvantage, my game experience is simply crippled that playing WvW under these conditions doesn’t make any sense.
Other people who bought this game earlier and playing on higher level servers are basically playing a different version of the game, they level a few times faster, they get a few times more money, items, karma you name it.
All of it at my expense, I payed for them to have fun to have none myself. I didn’t signed up to be a scape goat for my $$. This game must give equal chance to everyone who paid equally.
As a customer I would like Arena Net to have a fair warning regarding WvW before you buying the game about how server matching is structured, saying that basically there are good slots that are all taken and crappy slots for new players where they shove you after taking your money to eat shoot every day for months.
Right now it feels like I’ve been scammed out of my money and I want my money back.

There is an option “Show Enemy Names” in keybindings settings, when you press the key it (strangely enough) shows item names over various gates, sieges, vegetables on the ground and most importantly bags of loot.
How to make those names always to be on the screen w/o pressing that key (or only above bags of loot)?
There is “Show All Enemy Names” option in the settings but that actually shows only enemy names not items.
It comes out as []
… about a new vision on what end-game content should be and how it needs to be played, earning mastery points/levels boils down to a mind numbing grinding of hundreds of dynamic events in one zone? Preferably in a champ train in Dragon’s Stand that seems to be the fastest way to do things… so that’s it? That’s what this great new vision is about?
Even now some maps are empty and running around solo or in a small group randomly chasing events gets you nowhere, what will happen in a month when things cool down a bit?
How’s that different from other games’ end game content? Where is that new concept? All I see is even more grind, even bigger bosses and even bigger groups to take then down?
At least I could cycle my level 80 in WvW or PvE or do whatever else, now PvE has it’s own points, mastery points are earned only in one new zone, WvW rank progression doesn’t give you anything else as before , everything got separated.
What happened to the concept “there are so many ways to achieve this and that goal” in this game? I don’t see how things got better in any way.
But hey, gliding is fun, right? That should keep you going for a month or two before it gets old …

The last single fights are incredibly exhausting and the Mordemoth fight is unbelievably long and hard. It will take hours of mindless repetitions and tries to complete.
This game is supposed to be fun not a depressing dauting exercise.
The last part of personal story needs huge nerf, everything has to be at least three times easier and faster.
It’s working now, thank you! I think it bugged out, there was no dialog or any progress, restarting fixed it.
I can’t find Elder Dragon research center in Rata Novus, could anyone tell me how to get to it?
In game screenshot:
Yeah, you just have to treat it like a math thing. I used to do damage testing on the dummies in LA before they got exploded by Scarlet. While you may never see the +10% in your stats, it does apply to your damage.
Fun fact, all damage modifiers multiply. So if you have a trait that gives you +10% damage while above 90% HP and a full set of scholar runes you’ll be getting more than +20% damage while the conditions are met. You’ll actually get 21% increased damage because one 10% applied on top of the other.
The math for that is 1.10 × 1.10 = 1.21
That’s very helpful, thank you!
I put 6 of them into my gear, when I put the last one it should give extra 10% damage when health is above 90%, is it displayed anywhere?
If I swap one runed item with a one w/o the rune I see no change in damage.
So, this game disconnects from the server, I close it restart and it starts downloading the whole 31K files from scratch. Running gw2.exe -repair after 15 mins of “repairing” starts reinstalling the whole game.
My SSD is OK and there is no damage to it. Bad game programming?
With the current fixed position UI the game is barely playable for me atm, are there currently any means to move UI elements around, like bringing them up to the mid screen?
Alternatively, is it OK if I make my own separate program that will create an overlay window on top of the game’s one reflecting different pieces of UI (through screengrab) where I want them to be?
Hi,
I’ve been playing with the public API for a couple of days and stumbled across a couple of IDs that are only present in prices endpoint:
https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/commerce/prices/9102
https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/commerce/prices/46743
I can’t find any info by these IDs in items, recipes (including input/output search) and skins.
Can anybody tell me what those are?
Thank you!
