Yeah, I was just griping about this elsewhere. Arenanet likes to do this thing where they get me excited for a patch and then don’t release it until after I have to go to bed, and that time is quickly creeping upon us already. It’s really frustrating. Some of us work nights, you know.

If I use the Gift of Heroes to upgrade a skin, does that destroy the Gift? Or can I use the same one for multiple skins?

I was in a first place server this tournament, and I can afford two Mistforged on their own, but the problem is that I want four. If I bought a Gift (200 tix), I could afford the four hero skins I want (400 tix total) and then just upgrade them, but I don’t want to do that if the Gift is only good for one skin.

Does anyone know?

I’m kind of laughing at the “anet needs to stop catering to the majority” connotations in some of the comments here. They’re a business. Are you for real right now?

Look, I hated the epilogue. I thought the writing, pacing, and characterization was trash. I thought that the dialogue options were unfunny garbage. I even thought it was inappropriate to be acting like everything is sunshine and rainbows when there’s a kittened off elder dragon yelling at us to get off his lawn. But what is with all of this pearl-clutching in this thread? “O-oh nooo, Scarlet was a person tooooo!” Yeah, a person who killed thousands of civilians and woke a kittening dragon. Some people’s deaths deserve to be celebrated, because the world is objectively, in a measureable way, a better place without them.

I was so annoyed during this instance, and I’m doubly so now that I’ve listened to the first ending that they had and scrapped. I mean it wasn’t great that Jory died in that ending, but the epilogue conversation felt so much more natural? Like, it was everyone sitting in the tavern and reflecting on everything that had happened over the past year and then talking briefly about plans for the future. (I also liked how Logan made an appearance, because it was a nice reminder to the fact that Logan and Jory were bros.) This ending, all it was was just… uh-huh.

So much of these characters’ development up until this point was in utterly missable side conversations and content that was optional even to the people who chose to do the LS, so the conversation in the epilogue seemed like way too little too late. It was just HEY, YOU. CARE ABOUT THESE CHARACTERS. LET ME SHOVE THEIR PERSONALITIES DOWN YOUR THROAT FOR FIVE MINUTES SO THAT YOU ARE 100% AWARE OF HOW MUCH YOU SHOULD BE CARING ABOUT THEM RIGHT NOW. THEY’RE SO QUIRKY AND FUN DON’T YOU CARE ABOUT THEM? No, ArenaNet. I don’t. You had months to get me to look at them and get invested. You botched it. It’s too late now. I have never wanted to leave a party so badly, not even in college, and I think that that is saying a lot.

I really can’t emphasize enough how little I care about DE 2.0. We have not been given a single reason to care about ANY of these characters. Bringing in Jory’s sister was kind of interesting, but again, it was too little too late. By now I couldn’t really be paid to care.

It really feels like everything we’ve done over the past year was for absolutely kittening nothing. There was absolutely ZERO catharsis to this ending. No closure. Nothing. It was just LOL YAY EVERYONE’S OKAY (except for those poor kittens who were in Lion’s Arch but ehhh w/e) AND EVERYTHING IS SUNSHINE AND RAINBOWS SHOOTING OUT OF OUR kitten… OH WAIT THERE’S A DRAGON? LOL OH WELL HEY JORY ARE YOU SURE SCREWING KASMEER IS A GOOD IDEA? UH-HUH.

I’m so fatigued with this game’s empty promises. I’m tired of being told “just wait.” The season is over, guys. How much longer do I have to wait? So, you woke a dragon. Okay, but why? Kralkatorrik and Jormag are already up. No, seriously, I need to know why. Why even BOTHER forming all of these enemy alliances? Is it going to actually matter or change anything now? Will there be any fallout? Does anyone care? What was the point of ANY of it?? It just feels so kitten pointless, I can’t stand it.

I played the content once and haven’t logged back in since. I can’t think of a better word for it than “flaccid.”

ArenaNet PLEASE fire your writers. I don’t want to believe this schlock was written a year in advance. I can’t believe it. It is utterly unbelievable.

The game was made and sold on the idea of open world content. There isn’t a single raiding instance in the whole game. Never has been. Hopefully never will be. Raids also revolve around the axis of the classic trinity, which is also not present in this game. If that’s what you want, I’m not really sure what you’re doing playing this game in the first place. You’re best off finding another MMO.

But yeah, back on topic. I am kind of disappointed by the lack of story-based content in this update, because like I said, I was under the impression that this update was going to be a story-driven hype machine.

… and then ArenaNet created Wurm, and everyone cried and refused to do it because it forced you to communicate and work together and was wholly un-zergable. My server’s given up on it entirely.

Like many people have already said, this event was created specifically with the intention to break up a zerg. Just because people continue to zerg in spite of that isn’t ArenaNet’s fault and is out of their hands at that point. I’ve been an admin of games before, and I can tell you that there’s nothing more frustrating than when players cry and blame you and beg you to fix something that you can’t fix no matter how hard you try because the playerbase is the problem. But no one wants to acknowledge that their peers much just be a bunch of stupid kittens who will never be happy for any concession you make for them and are actually the ones ruining it for everyone.

Wasn’t that supposed to happen in this patch? Correct me if I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that this patch was supposed to be a huge lore patch and we were going to find out who was really behind Scarlet, and it was supposed to be someone we know. Other than Scarlet destroying Lion’s Arch — which we figured out last patch — I don’t think anything new has happened or that we’ve gained any new information.

Then again, I haven’t played a whole lot since the patch went live. Is there anyone out there who can shed some light?

I have the novel, I stand by my point, it’s just badldy written. The bond lets Jennah call to Logan telepathically but she does not control or influence his actions, his love and devotion for her does.

I know this will be viewed as off topic but I got this idea from your long post. Could it be possible that Jennah is the personal nemesis I read several individuals claim Anet promised? Could it be also possible that Scarlet also fell victim to Jennah’s manipulations and that was why the Arcane Council permitted her to study at their esteem colleges? Perhaps this is why Scarlet has attempted at least on one occasion to attack the queen.

The Logan/Jennah thing annoys me also, but as others have mentioned, Logan is actually under Jennah’s magical influence, so I give him a pass for that. Really, I feel sad for him more than anything else. She won’t let him go, but she also won’t throw him any bones. He’s just her pet. =/ (Also, devs: PLEASE make it more obvious in the actual game that Logan is under the effects of Mesmer magic. Almost no one understands that because it’s only in the book, and it makes Logan seem like a real idiot.)

yeah when I first played through the human storyline, since my first character was a human, I thought Logan was kind of a dipkitten. But now that I’ve read the book, I really just feel terrible for him. In the one personal story mission where you and Trahearne go through Orr with the Pale Tree, you see Logan and Rytlock arguing over what happened to Snaff, and Logan kittening says, “Someone would have died either way! Any one of you would have made the same choice…” Like, that’s how he justifies it to himself. It’s really kittening sad to watch him go through the mental gymnastics required for him to fit into the version of reality that Jennah has fed to him.

In all honesty, Jennah probably would have been fine even if Logan hadn’t been there. And how many people have died because of Kralkatorrik since that day — people who would still be alive if Logan had been there and DE had killed the dragon? I just. Ugh. I feel like there’s no closure for him. Sure, DE got back together and everyone forgave him, but it’s pretty obvious that he still doesn’t forgive himself because he still has that lingering feeling that he made the wrong choice… because he did… because it wasn’t the choice he would have made if it had really been up to him to decide. But that’s just how his story ends. At least for now. :c

Nope. The original Destiny’s edge and your mentors story were probably the most engaging storytelling in GW2, but even that ‘got lost’ during the middle part of the personal story when you were ‘encouraged’ to travel to all the dungeons to see how DE got back together and Trahearne took over .

And I really need to put my foot down to all of the people who keep saying “but what about Logan and Jennah? wHAT ABOUT LOGAN AND JENNAH THO THEIR RELATIONSHIP IS SAPPY AND DUMB TOO” no stop. Logan and Jennah are super interesting to anyone who read the book. They have the most destructive, disgusting, abusive, and f-ed up relationship in the entire game. Jennah is one of my most favorite duplicitous characters in modern gaming. She acts all noble and regal and kitten, but in reality she’s an extremely powerful mesmer who’s a master manipulator and is literally holding Logan captive as a mind slave (and probably a sex slave too lbr). He probably doesn’t even really actually love her. Probably never did.

Here’s how their relationship happened:

>Logan, Rytlock, and Caithe are extremely famous gladiators in Lion’s Arch
>Jennah walks into the arena in Lion’s Arch
>she casts an aoe spell so that everyone in there loves her to neutralize any threats against her that might be present, though when she’s asked if she did such a thing, she denies it
>Logan gets hit by it way harder than anyone else probably because of his latent psych issues involving his bro and the queen (his older brother was Jennah’s personal guard and Logan always felt like he was in his brother’s shadow)
>he wanders up to her like a kitten
>Jennah looks at him and realizes what a powerful tool he’d be if she were to use him as her own blunt little instrument
>she locks eyes with him and basically stakes her claim on him
>the gate to total mindslaving has been opened
>Logan walks right through like an idiot and lets her enslave his mind without realizing he’d even done it.

Throughout the rest of the book, while Destiny’s Edge is off adventuring and killing dragon minions, Jennah keeps sending letters to Logan in order to further cultivate his bond to her. She manipulates the kitten out of him, and she’s not even really all that subtle about it. She keeps giving him the illusion that he still has free will and the power to choose. Her letters all kind of read like, “I COULD forbid you from doing this, and I WANT to forbid you from doing this, but I WON’T because I’m so good to you don’t you think I’m good to you look at all of the free will you still have this is totally a decision that you’re making free of my influence. I need you to believe this now so that it will be easier to manipulate this in your mind when I strip your choices away from you and force you to act without your consent.” About four months into their relationship, even though they haven’t seen each other face to face in that whole time, Jennah already has complete control over Logan’s perceptions of himself and of their relationship.

Even the whole thing with Kralkatorrik and Snaff’s death — when Logan “ran away” — he wanted to resist abandoning DE for Jennah. He even tried. His struggle lasted approximately three whole godkitten seconds before Jennah’s summoning of him was too much for him to fight against. Logan doesn’t blame her for what happened. He gets mad when anyone else does. But it’s 100% her fault, and I’m disinclined to believe he would have left DE if he hadn’t been forced to via magic.

Close to everything in the game itself that Logan does in regards to Jennah and protecting Kryta is actually just Jennah working through him. Worst of all, a part of him knows it. Like, he doesn’t know, but he knows. There are little things he says throughout the course of the game that if you pay attention you can really pick up on as tiny little glimpses of self-awareness in regards to his relationship — his REAL relationship — to the queen. I actually think it would be super interesting if, in an expansion (because it wouldn’t work as a Living Story imo), the spell was somehow broken and Logan was finally able to clearly see what she’s been doing to him for all these years.

It’s absolutely disgusting what she does to him, and I love every second of it, because it’s not something you see very often. Attached pic related. I’m not exactly sure, he says. Holy crap I lost it when I read that line. Don’t you dare compare Marjory and Kasmeer to Jennah and Logan. The former will NEVER be as powerful, complex, or interesting as the latter. Sorry for the long post. I just have a lot of feelings about Logan and Jennah ok.

Majory’s voice acting is perfect. She’s supposed to sound like a noir-movie detective. Her voice actor is doing a great job capturing the “self-narration” rhythms from those films. You may not like the stylistic choice, but that doesn’t mean it’s being done badly.

Compare the way Majory and Kasmeer talk to each other to the way Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor talk in The Maltese Falcon:

I think Kasmeer and Marjory are cute together and their flirting is fun, and it’s cool for Anet to be inclusive like this. I think most people who can’t stomach this are just intolerant bigots, if one of them was a guy even people who dislike how the relationship was written or don’t care would just shrug and move on.

Being inclusive has nothing to do with why they’re doing this. This relationship is designed for the juvenile male audience.

What if I told you that you don’t have to be a juvenile male to enjoy this?

You’d have to be some form juvenile and have a poor grasp on how storytelling works, though. Whether you’re male or not doesn’t really matter. Not all representation is good representation. This is a lesson a lot of game companies need to learn (I’m looking at you, Bioware). There’s a difference between making good, nuanced characters who also happen to be queer (like Caithe and Faolain) and making two highly fetishized characters who can’t go more than half a scene without reminding you how much of hot lesbians they are, like Marjory and Kasmeer.

I’m all for having same sex couples represented in this game. I love Caithe and Faolain. Hell, like half of the sylvari you meet are gay. I think that’s great. But Marjory and Kasmeer are borderline fetishistic with the whole “look! lesbians! leSBIANS!! LOOK AT THEM BE LESBIANS ISN’T KASMEER HOT GUESS WHAT SHE’S ALWAYS NAKED.”

When I went into the LS the other day, the first thing I said in guild chat was, “WOW CAN THEY BE MORE HEAVY HANDED ABOUT KASMEER AND MARJORY BEING IN LESBIANS WITH EACH OTHER? THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT PICKING OUT CURTAINS. THIS IS LITERALLY THE MOST STEREOTYPICAL THING I’VE EVER SEEN.” and one of my guildies said “oh just wait til Rox gets there. It gets worse.” and she was right. It got so much more obnoxious.

Maybe I’m just salty because Logan and Rytlock’s romance got snuffed out before it really had a chance to get off the ground (omg I’m kidding relax… kind of. I’m only kind of kidding. My guildies all call CoF and CoE the “yaoi dungeons”). idk to me it all depends on if the characters are likable in the first place, and Marjory in particular kittenes me off… though I think it might just be because of her terrible voice actor. And the relationship has to be somewhat believable. The characters actually have to have chemistry, and you should be able to see their feelings for each other in the way they interact — in a way that’s not I’M GOING TO KEEP TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU SO THAT PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT I LOVE YOU. That’s like the first rule of storytelling, anet. Show. Don’t tell.

What I think is the worst thing about time gated content/gear etc is that if you want to have it the quickest possible way, you NEED to log in every day and make sure you do certain things in game EVERY DAY (daily / farming for monthly, crafting daily parts etc).

If you miss few days, you can not “play more to close the gap”, like you could with exotics or any other stuff, when you can just log in and play more one day (got more gold / karma) and it somehow balanced your break from the game.

So if you don’t have a lot time for playing but you want to quickly get ascended armor – you need to make sure that each day you do those activities which might not be the things you actually enjoy. also, it may leave you with little to no time to do things you like doing. – BAD

This x1000. I work two jobs. I CANNOT play GW2 during the week, and if I get scheduled for the weekend on my second job, then I’m usually too wiped to play on the weekends, too. That’s at least five days a week I am not getting laurels. I binge on the weekends and make up for the lost time, though. With the laurel system, I can’t do that. 30 laurels is a freakin lot when you average 14 laurels a month including monthlies.

I have four characters at 80 and 10 total. I’ve made a legendary weapon. I work hard for my achievements in this game. To be impeded by some awful time gate system is the most frustrating thing for me. When I made my legendary, I could grind at my leisure and make the weapon on my own time. It took me a long time, but I never once felt like I was being held back by the game itself. With the ascended armor, even when I’m done playing and grinding on my own time, it becomes a terrible waiting game that could take up to three months to complete. It’s nonsense. The laurel system sucks.

I get that GW2 still wants to try to keep up the guise that it’s not following in the footsteps of WoW and it’s not a grindfest, but come on. Let’s all stop jerking each other off here. It’s a total grindfest. Who are they trying to kid? Even raiding is a better system than freakin laurels, because it was still something that players could do on their own time without the game physically barring them for arbitrary stupid reasons.

I will be so happy if this is what gets reskinned for the new Flamekissed armor, at least for the female version.

As a female player, when I went to go make a human male warrior, I was so put off by the faces. If they’re supposed to be visually appealing to women, they really missed the mark. If I wanted to make a feminine character, I would’ve made a female character. I just wanted a mid-to-late 20s guy who didn’t look totally kawaii desu~ but it was either uguu moe-chans or Clint Eastwood, neither of which I wanted.

And don’t even get me started on the nightmare that was my attempt at making a human with Mediterranean (Greek/Italian/Turkish) features. Holy god. The human character creator is basically White Girls: The Game.

Why would you transmute over expensive/gem store skins when you can get a new set with dungeon or wvw tokens easily enough and keep both? Its your own fault if you wasted your previous skins.

Because why the hell do I need two T3 cultural skins? The answer is: I don’t. I preferred the Flamekissed skin because it suited my elementalist better, but it was still T3 — just with particle effects. There was no reason to keep both, especially when I have three armor sets for this character already.

For those of you saying “transmutation splitters” no, that’s not going to work. I’ll get the skin that I don’t want back + the exotics that I transmuted for their stats. My T3 skin is kittening gone. Lost in the shuffle. I don’t want a kittening gem reimbursement. Gems aren’t going to get me my T3 back.

I didn’t come on the forums before I bought the skin. I don’t go on reddit. I play GW2 with two buddies of mine, and that’s the world I live in in-game. We’re not even in a larger guild; our guild is literally just the three of us. I only reach out to the larger community when I have a problem, like right now. I had no idea there was such an outrage about this, and I sure as kitten don’t think I should have to consult the GW2 community at large before I make a purchase with my own kitten money. That’s absolutely ridiculous.

Before jumping to conclusions I would wait until we see the new Flamekissed skin. Maybe you will like it so much that you forget about this mess.

The other option is to write a ticket and state your case. I assume they will handle refunds on a per player basis since they left so many details out.

Even if I do like it, I still want to have my cultural set. I have three sets of armor for my elementalist, and I use my cultural armor when I do WvW. Maybe I would want to reskin one of my other sets with the new armor if I like it, but I don’t want to be out my T3 set completely.

…what’s going to happen with people like me who transmuted their actual T3 cultural set to the new skin? Am I going to lose my cultural set, or is arenanet prepared to roll it back completely?

I’d really like to know if people who already bought the armor are going to be given the option to revert back to whatever they had before they purchased the skin. Because if they do change it, no matter what they change it to, I will be robbed of not only 120g but also $10. And there is no part of me that’s okay with that.

Alright then, fingers crossed. I think it’d be weird if it took higher quality mats to create an Ascended than it took to create a Legendary, but hey, if it doesn’t impede my progress then I won’t complain. :p
