[Suggestion] Mists Essence Refractor

Buy the howler.

While this suggestion does make sense somewhat, the effect that I’m suggesting is rather different from the fog effect that Howler generates. If you’ve ever previewed (or have) any of the fractal weapons, you might notice how different their effects are from Howler’s fog effect. There are little clouds of bright mist that leave a trailing effect when you move or swing the weapon as opposed to Howler’s dull gray fog.

EDIT: Also, Howler is a warhorn weapon that isn’t able to be used by every class. Whereas an upgrade component to an accessory or armor piece of some sort can be used by any class.

Also, although this would be rad, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. There’s always a reason not to do something.

Everything takes time and money.

Whoa whoa whoa. Let’s keep a positive mind. None of this pessimistic nonsense. :P I just want that mist effect on my armor so bad. >.<

[Suggestion] Mists Essence Refractor

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: watergenji.5816

watergenji.5816

So my guildies and I were discussing an item similar to the Poly-luminescent Undulating Refractors (black, orange, or green) that generates a mist effect that is very similar to the effect on the fractal weapons. It would cause little clouds of mist to surround your body and generate that “trail” effect when you move, also similar to the weapons. It could be a reward for fractal completion or some such thing.

I’m thinking that, on the very slim chance this idea actually catches on with Arenanet, it’ll probably be locked behind heavy RNG like the mythical Fractal Tonic. What do you guys think?

Also, I’m not aware if this suggestion or a related topic already exists on the forums. If so, would someone be able to kindly link the post(s) please? Thanks.

Caithe's House Mystery

in Lore

Posted by: watergenji.5816

watergenji.5816

Ok. So I entered Caithe’s House with a new toon while mapping The Grove and found an interactive object on the table that looked like ((534672)). The parentheses and numbers are the actual name of the object, by the way. So I examined it and it prompted an option to respond with another series of 6 numbers ( listed as ((xxxxxx)) where the ’x’s are digits) or cancel the prompt with yet another series of numbers ( I can’t remember what they are). So I chose the option and it listed yet another sequence of numbers in double parentheses. At this point there was no response allowed.

In addition, there’s a book on the table about long distance relationships or something like that with a piece of paper in the middle. Now the wiki lists this piece of paper as being blank, but when I examined it today, it listed numbers itself: ((488570)).

Does anyone have any idea what this is or is connected to? Was it implemented recently as part of the living story updates? I’m insanely curious about it, if anyone has any possible info on it.

Here are some screenshots that I took:

I checked the wiki, and it corroborates this. Where the blazes did I get the idea that he was lost to the Mists?? Man. I suppose this invalidates my theory that the Raving Asura in the Uncategorized Fractal is Dessa’s lost boyfriend. Or it at least invalidates my logic behind it. I am still curious why Dessa stops communicating at the beginning of the fractal and resumes once you defeat the cat golems.

Also of note, which I don’t think anyone in this thread mentioned, is Dessa’s boyfriend whom she allegedly lost to the mists. I’ve led myself to believe that this boyfriend of hers became the “Raving Asura” you see in the harpy fractal. For the longest time, I never noticed that Dessa leaves you to the fractal on your own at the beginning. “I…….gotta go…” Then at the end, after the Raving Asura has his little moment, she speaks to you again, apologizing for leaving you earlier. I’m sure this has been discussed elsewhere in the Lore forums, but it’s my opinion nevertheless.

I don’t know. After watching WoodenPotatoes’ video on it, I like to think that the Asura have some significant link to that castle, and perhaps even Isgarren himself. And I’m not speaking of the Inquest, either. The banner you see inside an Asuran hideout (which can only be explored using a login glitch) located in the cliffside of the little town clearly displays a Statics College symbol. I did a little digging since I forgot what the three colleges of Asuran society each engaged in, and I found that the Statics college is responsible for constructing and utilizing levitating lodestones. Hmmmm…. I do believe that ArenaNet has something planned for this location since they have so many assets already in the game in this little town. I believe it’s meant to be more than just an object that inspires wonder and imagination, but to each his own. :P

Feedback on HoT Stress Test [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: watergenji.5816

watergenji.5816

I haven’t read any previous replies in this thread so that my feedback of this stress test remain unbiased. Here goes:

Overall, I felt the demo was very entertaining, if a bit repetitive and a tad rough around the edges.
Story:
The story was very well done and has me super excited for the release of the expansion. This was true before this event, but I have reached a fever pitch now. I really liked that the enemies had dialogue as well. Nice touch.

Revenant:
The Revenant was incredible fun to play, but, like the events, it started to feel somewhat repetitive after awhile. The weapon skills seem balanced, but I feel like the utility skills were a tad overpowered, if only because the cooldown for them is almost nonexistent because of the use of the energy bar. The energy bar got refilled almost constantly which led to using the elite and utility skills extremely often; a lot more often than other classes. The long cooldown on the healing skills seems fair, however, given that the Revenant technically has two healing skills available at any given time. I also liked that the passive traits sort of built on each other for the Revenant.

Mastery System:
The Masteries, in and of themselves, are a very innovative idea and, I think, are the correct step forward for this game. That being said, the mastery system menu was very confusing for me to the point that it was almost unusable. In order to actually spend a mastery point for one skill in a line, you have to click the bar with the skill you want which then widens the bar across the screen. Then, you have to click the icon on this long bar for a prompt to make sure you’re choosing the right mastery skill. There didn’t seem to be any obvious indication suggesting how to go about this easily. I had to clumsily click through the menu for 5 minutes until I figured it out. If I may make a suggestion, I would advise putting the mastery system menu on a tab next the skillpoint and traits tab in the hero panel, also.

Lastly, as far as performance is concerned, I felt like my framerate was unusually low for the duration of the session. I usually have about 35 to 40 fps during regular play with lots of character models on screen. But, during the test, I was sitting somewhere between 20 and 30 constantly. The environment, I think, seemed to put some stress on my system, more so than usual.

Final words:
The story was excellent and I greatly look forward to playing through it. The revenant deserves a little tweaking, if only to prevent it from being too overpowered compared to other classes. And the mastery system needs some serious attention in order to simplify its execution. Also, Pocket Raptors are adorable.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention was that the gliding (In which I spent some mastery points during the test) was well polished, in my opinion. I didn’t see any issues with that skill.

There’s a concept art image on the GW2 wiki that shows a female largos without wings, so maybe the wings are not permanently affixed.

Well would you look at that? lol. That’s interesting. I would personally love to see the Largos as a playable race.

Some dragon wings would be pretty sick. But how about some phoenix wings? THAT would rock my world.

After the sale period Wings will get withdrawn from TP or remain in a higher price?

If anyone in-game can verify this, I would be very grateful.

On a different note, I think this should be said here, but if they ever release a set of wings like this, but made of FIRE (!!), like Phoenix wings, I would die a happy player. Thank you JustTrogdor for coming up with such an interesting and insightful thread. Sometimes we need to inject a dose of humanity and understanding back in these forums to remind everyone that we’re all human. Anyway:
•I’m a 24 year old guy.. Approaching 25.
•I’ve mostly been a lurker on the forums during downtime at work, but lately I’ve become more active at posting.
•Speaking of work; I’m a software engineer with a bachelors in mathematics, but I’m currently looking to go back to college for a career change to become a translator. (Mein Deutsch ist besser werden.)
•Grew up in, and currently dwell in, Texas.
•I’m a rather empathetic person, if I do say so myself, so I REALLY love this thread. Lol
•I tend to gravitate toward alternative rock music myself, but I have a dose of all kinds of music genres. (Except for hardcore rap and country music. I LOATHE that duo)
•No pets. Not sure I have the patience to take care of one.
•As a gay man, I fully support putting more revealing armors in the game for male toons.
•I’m typically an asocial person, but I’m working to change that in the coming years.
•In spite of my account name, I am obsessed with the “Phoenix” motif. As such, most of my toons have “Phoenix” in their names.

This is starting to upset me

Bahahaha! I’m not sure if that’s a typo, but it’s still pretty accurate. ;P

i don’t see why people assume only one weapon can be added.

two one-handed weapons provide the same amount of skills as one two-handed weapon. hopefully this means mesmer gets something more than just shield. another melee option, plz

Actually, the mesmer doesn’t need one other weapon type. Just have it main-hand shields too! And make it a melee shield! Man, how mesmery is that? Then there’s the odd situation where you could main-hand a melee shield and off-hand a sword that blocks and counters….LOL

EDIT: On topic, I don’t want to see a longbow on guard, myself. I like the rifle or even shortbow options better.

Do Irukandji still respawn before 2 tentactles are killed? Or can you kill them before Maw awakens?

I’ve never tried. Since they’re blindable and what not, it’s just pretty easy to clean them up in groups with the colossi at a good LoS point.

They do respawn before you kill the two tentacles. My party tried to clean them up once and found out the hard way. Lol

Every hit is harder, but, your big boss fights aren’t the concern as much. THey already hurt badly if you fail to avoid hits. So you really don’t notice much difference. What is different is the trash or small hits, those are now deadly. Not layering the blinds on say ascalon will have you crying. You really just need to be precise in your strategies is all.

A few things have some different mechanics, like yes the Jade Maw squid adds don’t despawn, so you have to clear those with the other stuff. Again, not too difficult just have to nail down your strat, usually pull them behind one of the pillars in the left back corner.

^This. Getting a solid strategy with a regular group is the best course of action for 50 runs. Pugging can often net you some capable players, but a regular group that knows all the differences is the way to go if you can find them. Lol

Firstly, whoever told you about the respawning Irukandjis was mistaken. It’s not that they never stop REspawning, but that don’t DEspawn once you kill the two tentacles at the start of the fight. Granted, the fight is still more difficult and tedious because of this. My guild group usually retreats to the “safe corner” and attempts to draw in Irukandjis one group at a time to handle them without being overwhelmed.

Secondly, the jump in difficulty is not actually that bad. Beyond the obligatory Agony Resistance, the enemies hit a tad harder. Other than that, I can’t recall any distinct differences off the top of my head.

Also, I’m afraid my guild group is almost always full when doing fractal runs. But, if we have a free spot, I can send you a message ingame to invite you along.

Ok. I think a lot of people have misinterpreted the OP’s intent. Some of you keep getting caught up in the fact that the OP claims he or she doesn’t play a Mesmer for money then claims he or she is bothered by the fact that not many port recipients give gratuity. The OP isn’t saying he or she is bothered by a lack of tips because of the MONEY. It’s about the lack of a display of ETIQUETTE. The fact that this form of etiquette is monetary doesn’t necessarily help the OP’s case, but don’t let that suggest that the OP is only concerned with money here. The OP is simply arguing that tipping is a good form of etiquette in these situations and is suggesting that it actually be considered by more players. Considering how many players probably don’t even think about tipping Mesmers, the OP’s attempt to spread the word seems somewhat noble to me. It’s an attempt to spread etiquette.

If that was truly OPs intent then he would have been asking for thank yous, not money.

Correct. Ettiquette is a different discussion altogether.

Also from Ops statement………………..

“Then BAM, through the magic purple gateway to free loot. I remember thinking that was the coolest thing I’d ever seen in an MMO, that you could do that for people. I knew right then that I wanted to make a Mesmer. More than that, that I wanted to get really good at JPs.”

Ok. I get where I made a mistake. I posted about the OP’s intent when I should have posted about the topic itself. My apologies.

On topic: I find tipping to be very polite and rather appropriate (at least for the tougher JPs). Now SHOULD people tip? Not necessarily. I think people should give it consideration at least, though. That being said, if mesmers demand tips, I feel that’s completely uncalled for. On the converse of that, players shouldn’t demand ports either. It’s all about showing etiquette in either situation. I certainly like the idea that this mindset of tipping is being spread, though.

None of this matters. Those are 2 contradictive statements. Period. No matter light you try to shine them in.

One side is op says he doesn’t care. On the other side op says they should tip more due to x reason. It DOESN’T MATTER what that reason is. By saying “they should” he already warrants that he believes people should tip. He made a STATEMENT.

If he truly did not care, then he would not have mentioned it at all. If its that big of a deal, he needs to ask for payment for his service, just like anything else in the world.

When i hold open the door for someone, I don’t even care if i get a thanks. Sometimes i do get a thank you, sometimes i don’t. I do it because im a nice person, not because i’m expecting something out of it.

I certainly don’t get kitten if i don’t get a thanks either, because i was never expecting anything.

OP is subconsciously doing this expecting gold, he just doesn’t want to admit it, and is trying to justify it through horribly reasoning, which most of the people in this thread have already pointed out.

Ok. I think we interpreted his initial statement rather differently. I recall him saying something like “I didn’t get into Mermerism for the money”, not “as a mesmer, I never cared about the money”. Now you could interpret the former to include the meaning of the latter, but I did not interpret it this way. I don’t think that statement encompassed whether or not he cares about getting tips. It was simply meant to suggest that he didn’t start using a mesmer for anything related to money specifically. That would mean his next statement about being bothered by lack of tips is NOT contradictory to his first.

But, regardless of what the OP meant exactly, I think that more people should at least consider it one way of showing thanks (and to actually show thanks more often, perhaps). It’s, as I said, a form of etiquette that I don’t think should be frowned upon.

EDIT: Also, I think that the very idea of spreading this idea of in-game gratuity for a service such as portaling would foster more friendly interactions between players. Even if I thought the OP was being presumptuous about whether people SHOULD tip or not, I think tipping in and of itself would make for a more pleasant experience for everyone involved.

Ok. I found a topic, where the op had basically the same issue I’m having now, but it was never apparently resolved.
Here is the link to the original topic:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Not-able-to-download-the-game-from-the-disk

Essentially what happens is, I run the Gw2Setup file (either downloaded from the GW2 Client or from the game disc itself) and it brings up the screen to start downloading. (It shows the progress in kB in the lower left corner as well as the download speed right next to it, but that’s it.) Then, once it’s at 10522 kB, it stops to try to transfer to the screen that actually displays the progress bar at the bottom (as well as the Login and Play buttons and other various items).

Before it can get to that screen, however, it disappears and, apparently, stops running.

I should mention that I just had an issue with my hard drive where the boot manager was missing evidently? I had to wipe the hard drive, re-partition it, and reinstall Windows 7 (64 bit) from a disc.

If there is any other information that is needed for someone to identify a possible solution to this issue, please let me know, and I’ll do my best to procure it.
