Leveling in Southsun, a good or bad idea?

Just wondering how Southsun (or upscaled zones in general) compares to leveling in zones that match a character’s level. I know you get less experience while downleveled, but I’m not sure how upscaling affects leveling/xp.

The zone itself has no hearts, no chain events, but events are close to each, traveling isn’t as slow, and there’s little downtime (getting res’d is easy, and the TP/Bank is near, vendors are everywhere).

I follow a zerg of 80s from one place to another and also get lots of loot from mob tagging.

Plus it’s more fun since it’s not soloing and the zone itself is great (I love good monster design like the Karka+hatchlings).

@Lodovicus,
You bring up good points. Unfortunately, no matter how much dungeons get tweaked and balanced in terms of effort/reward, people will always find the easiest one in the end and grind it forever while ignoring others, just like with CoF now. Nothing will change much unless some drastic improvement is implemented such as cross-server LFG or dungeon and loot revamp. The only people who will do less popular dungeons will be the same niche players.

@HELLruler,
If there were as many people as you say, people wouldn’t be calling for proper LFG tools since launch and topics being posted about it to this day. Look at gw2lfg.com and check how many people do story mode dungeons, for example. Dungeons (besides CoF/Fotm) are nowhere as active as they should be considering the game’s popularity.

Problem: Dungeon rewards are currently restricted based on dungeon popularity. People do CoF/FotM, rarely other dungeons.

Suggestion: Convert popular dungeon currencies into less popular ones.

Common arguments:
“People will do easier dungeons to get the rewards of harder dungeons.”
The ratio doesn’t have to be 1:1. It can be adjusted according to dungeon difficulty, duration, etc.

“This defeats the purpose of having dungeon-specific rewards in the first place”
Only true if that purpose is grinding a specific dungeon over and over. Even then, why not grind the dungeons we want (or in this case, can)?

“Some armor should stay exclusive”
Yes, but not because that armor is from a deserted dungeon. As it is now, some lower level armor sets are more exclusive than some higher level ones.

Dye to match Fractal Weapon

-Go dragonsworn.net/dyes/

-Filter by Blue dyes (on the right). Later try purple, green, and grey

-Write down all the names that could be possible matches (I’d start from Cobalt)

-Copy and paste them in-game (e.g. Gunmetal, Chalkboard, Blue Shade, etc.)

-Type the name for each dye on the TP and preview

Try asking in reddit.com/r/GuildWarsDyeJob if you don’t get an answer here.

(IMO Fractal skins look best on Asura)

New to 80; What do I need to do?

Unless you’re rich, buy 76~79 Exotics instead of 80. Perhaps more importantly transmuting those is MUCH cheaper too (you only need stones instead of crystals). You lose like 5 points but save like 200%~400% of the price. Some pieces you pay only for the price of the rune inside it(or even less).

Set filters as: Prefix name, 76~79, slot, exotic. Try different prefixes and slots and note the runes(suffix). Place buy orders, don’t buy instantly.

Then spend 42k karma on an amulet from Orr Temple (if you buy armor instead you’ll be stuck with lvl 80 armor and will need crystals to transmute).

If you want to convert karma to gold, spend it on Orrian Jewlery Boxes, or on mats to craft unidentified dyes.

Read dulfy’s end-game gearing guide for more info.

Issues with the trading post: please post here [MERGED]

Is the trading post down? I sold about 8-13 gold worth of mats a little while ago but didn’t realize I wasn’t getting the icon that pops saying I have money waiting to be withdrawn from the TP until after I had sold everything. It seems that the T kitten omewhat glitched because the ‘take all’ button isn’t grayed out like it would be if I had no money ready to be withdrawn, instead its yellow as if there was money and I am able to click it but the amount of money is at 0 and nothing happens when I click the take all button. Any solution? Restarting the client a few times did not fix the problem.

[s]Something is wrong.

I was trying to “place order” but the button didn’t do anything.

I thought I had too many orders or something so I canceled most of what I was selling and buying.

I didn’t get any items back! My items disappeared and the pickup tab is empty!

WTF.[/s]

EDIT: Okay I got my items and it’s back to normal. Guess it was just lag (first time it happens like this though).

Most played class in Gw2

I played for ~2 months at launch and quit. This is from what I see now:

Mesmers are way more popular now. Guardians and Eles are more. Rangers are maybe a bit less.

Other profs stayed the same. Maybe even less Engies now.

PvP wise, profs seem to have evened up, except warrs who are now less.

Q for alts that transmute while leveling

in Players Helping Players

Let’s say your alt is level 35. Every 10 levels you destroy (not salvage or vendor) your current equipment, and buy new more expensive replacements.

How poor will you be when you reach 80? Provided that you progress normally through PvE . (I.e. no grinding/farming/playing the TP/etc.)

Any alts out there that are leveling while maintaining a culture/order armor look?

Do you need rich mains? grind for gold? or play the TP?

Or does actual playing provide enough income? I mean, will doing usual PvE stuff alone afford you to upgrade your armor every 10 levels and still be able to retransmute?

I’m curious since I always resold gear I bought from the TP, but it turns out I can’t do that anymore if I want to transmute. I had 3~4g on this alt and now I’m down to 50s.
