Yeah it was a really fun night out there defending, hills is my favorite objective to defend really. Props to HEL, RISE, DIE and the rallians that were there throughout the night on the job we all did working together to defend it

Most fun I have had in a long time in WvWvW defending Hills last night. With my old WvWvW guild going back to EU I’d forgotten how much fun it could be in TS with good commanders, so massive props to [Hel] commanders last night (and all of Hel online too). Some nice work too by RISE, DIE etc and nice to see some real co-ordination going on.

Shame about the lag but the fun and the bags almost made up for it.

i wish games involve pvp more into making “gear” than grind.

I don’t see the problem with wvw maybe take off the eb keeps for vista/poi, Cause i gotta admit.. its hard to ever get that unless its a thursday and your server faceroll them.

If you accomplish getting all the pve done. maybe switch to a server that has the keep you need?

For the most part.. most of the matches are already known by thursday. Usually top rank server = green, medium = blue and lower server = red.

There are an awful lot of emotional responses from SoSers. Pot meet kettle? You outnumber us, and it’s all good bro…we outnumber you, and now all of a sudden, it’s a major problem. LOL. Adapt or die.

LOL such hypocrisy, so you’re saying JQ never complained when SOS ‘outnumbered’ you guys?? I’m sure alot of JQQ’ers complained – hence why sos is apparently called the zerg/stacked server, however now the roles are reversed they can’t voice their own opinions? DOUBLE STANDARDS BRO!

Btw please tell me how your meant to adapt when your outnumbered 5:1? And then if we can’t adapt I guess we all die, and JQQ will have no competition right?

I liked BG attitude this week. They went in for the kill. It’s sad some servers just give up to soon. It used to be SBI.. now it seems SoS caught the flu.

Oh well.. New week, new challenge. I really looking towards SoR and BG to go against JQ.
That could be a good match up.

I play warrior, thief and elementalist in WvW, warrior most of the time now. I can’t think that I’ve ever lost a 1v1 with a thief while on my warrior. Sometimes they escape, and sometimes I have to back off, but never lost.

One of the chief points of the thread is not 1v1, but the ability to stop a thief from destroying siege engines.

With their ability to constantly stealth, it’s virtually impossible to keep them off of siege. The best you can do is AE the area and get them to move away but that’s only going to keep them off for about 5 seconds, and then they’ll be back.

Net result is always the same:
10+ siege defenders are running around swinging wildly at the air while the thief pops around slowly killing all the siege in the field. 1 thief can still be there dealing damage long after a group of 5 bunker elementalists (or any other class or combo) would have been killed.

Invisibility is simply the best “tank” ability in the game, and it’s on the highest DPS class.

An ele can block trebs from hitting the door/wall. Whats the point again?

It takes multiple Ele’s coordinating on VOIP to actually prevent the wall/gate from going down. It takes 1 thief to kill the siege, I think that’s the point.

I don’t know how in your server.. you don’t get punish but in my server when i do that to a good guild. I be spam with everything they got. Its nearly impossible getting 1-100% siege just by yourself and in case you do it.. Theres probably gonna be more than 1 cata.. most likely will be 2-4 cata + treb + arrowcart/ballista.

Gl with all the mesmer pulls and warrior/guardian hammers.

I was talking of Ele daggers.. and I can get around 14+stacks of might on ele with 3 times the survivability of a thief and faceroll 3-4 people while i cant do that on a thief unless they bad.

No matter which ele you meant, your statements are plain wrong. Ele is the profession with the lowest HP + Toughness. But ele is forced to compensate by running full PVT + clerics.

So pls stop pretending thief has so few HP + toughness. The reason most thieves have lower HP + toughness is because they run full glass canon. The reaons is thieves – as the ONLY profession – dont have to rely on defensive stats because stealth is such a powerful defensive tool without any counter (aoe is no counter to stealth because it does not break stealth).

you do realize that zerk build 11k hp with less than 2k thoughness..

And any ele that don’t use daggers build.. is just horrible for running on staff roaming.

I can bet you all my money that dagger ele would break zerk thief any day of the week. If you know how to play.

Zerk thief actually one of the worst builds and only gets rewarded by people running bad builds.

If you can’t burst down 11k hp in seconds.. I duno what anet can do for you.

Now the topic was about guardian, warrior and ele not being available to kill 1 person. Giving that “thief” kills one of them. Other 2 have enough cc to get him up and ress him Then kill the thief.

Shadow refugee has 1 min cd and blinding powder 40 sec. That means cant really be spammable. Sure you can cloak and dagger but also can be block by aegis/dodge/miss.

On my logic.. Warrior will have around 2-5 cc, guardian 2-5 and ele around 2-3. If you cant burst down 11k hp with that much cc and lack of stability. I duno what you can do.

Zerk build actually not great on more than 3 vs 1. Feel free to play a thief on spvp and try 1v1 anyone or make one to 80. You will notice the difference when you actually the one trying to survive. Its not a “stealth” full hp instant.

The purpose is to Shadow Refuge out of sight BEFORE you hit the siege, you know stealth the entire hit party not use Shadow Refuge to get away. You have enough mobility and stealth skills to get back inside alive as a thief.

We run a hit squad consisting of two thieves + 3 ele’s or three thieves + 2 ele’s. One thief will clusterbomb spam in a fire field to stack might, once done, we Shadow Refuge the party so we have the full duration of stealth, one of the ele’s switch to air for swiftness and we get into position. Just before we hit the ele in air applies shocking aura for further swiftness and fury stacks while the other applies frozen aura, again stacking fury and swiftness duration. Then the ele’s switch to earth (protection boon up) begin channeling Churning Earth and Lightning Flash onto the siege. Our thieves will either Dagger Storm or go full single target on the equipment depending on the density of defenders. Ele’s go fire and drop what we can and we all make our own way back. Repeat when cooldowns have expired.

I’ll admit BAD elementalists will use Vapor Form (downed skill) to get back inside(gladly remove it from the downed skill, but not the utility skill), good elementalists on the other hand know when to pull out and will use a combination of Ride the Lightning, Armor of Earth, Lightning Flash and Mist Form to get back inside.

On the other hand if AOE actually did proper damage we wouldn’t have to resort to wading through 25 people stacked outside the gate.

You do realize that most of the damage dealt to that siege.. comes from the ele and not the thief right

Only thing a thief can do is poke whoever using that siege maybe down him and try to stay alive.

I don’t know what server you play.. but on mine.. going on a single party against a 20+ zerg would end up on a really sad day.

I can’t AOE them because I only have two real AOEs that are any good and I don’t like using the longbow either,there is literally no counter for thieves as a warrior and the game lag isn’t helping either.

And people say warriors are OP.

I main a ranger and have several other 80 chars. the ranger and warrior are the only two i WvW. around 13k kills about 35% or so are probably from the warrior.

I find that the warrior has good counters to thieves as long as you aren’t a GC zerker build.

once i got rid of the GC build things got much better. i went with more of a balance build that leans towards the tank side. running mostly knights gear with zerk trinkets. i am now running axe/shield and rifle. that gives me 1 stun on each weapon swap, and i have another stun loaded in the skill slots bull rush or stomp. it did suck losing the mobility of the Great sword. makes it hard to get away from a zerg, but O well.

i don’t think i could play a warrior without a shield now. the trait that gives might when you block is pretty nice. the rifle is good against thieves cause we have a knock back and two abilities on it that will track the thief as long as you start the cast before he stealths (volley and kill shot) both do good damage. even with this more balance build i get 10k kill shots on low armor guys.

now when i run with my ranger there are 2 things i wish they would change about stealth.

1. coming out of stealth should give revealed debuff no matter what, not just if you damage from stealth.

2. remove being able to stealth from C&D on my pet. my pet is suppose to be there to help me not the enemy and the pet can’t try to dodge it.

just not sure how much these would hurt the thief.

Problem with your request is that why punish for not backstabbing. When I wanna deal damage on big fight but I been focus I don’t wanna backstabbing get notice for the debuff n get kitten instantly.. It’s hard stalking on big groups specially when I’m hunting commanders which usually get 10 people babysitting them.

Also pets often run way to fast and sometimes appear out of nowhere, they often block my backstabbing with their big body.. So if thief could hit a ranger without the pet tanking.. Then sure.

Who in their right mind places siege that requires a suicide run in range of the entrance portal anyway? And everything you say countering dagger storm has an equivalent counter to an Elementalist. Stop being so pig-headed and rather use the energy you spend complaining finding out creative ways to use your class.

My favourite profession to do siege bombing with me are thieves. What I’m saying is the two compliment each other well but you don’t see me asking your class to be nerfed.

Here’s the biggest problem with the majority of thieves: they only think in terms of “ME” and not in terms of “US”.

You do realize that ele often abuse the use of vapor mist while holding any tower. I get it when your on a wall dropping aoe. But whenever you can go in drop your aoes 10 feet from the gate and get away from it with vapor mist tru the door.. It’s kinda annoying.

I really don’t care on who kills the siege or not cause at the end of the day.. If you get away with a Zerg not punish you. It’s like meh but vapor mist thru the door is bs.

Queues

They should increase low level cap to +60 cause they bring no use to wvw but take space.. I even rather had lower levels remove from wvw. All they do is die and rally enemies. Not to mention some waste keep/tower supply repairing walls that get treb.

I’m in jade quarry and longest q is around 20mins during busy times.. I mostly put a movie show and wait for Q.

Please, do something about downed state.

I think revive allies should be tone down a little.. It’s easy to drop any cc and ress someone without getting a reward for downing him.
I had fights of 2v1 or 3v1 when I need to kill the person more than 3 times in order to put them out.. Maybe make finisher 1 second less.

If you want to bandwagon, and have long queues(most likely upward of 1-2 hours during peak times, just like at launch), Jade Quarry, Sanctum of Rall, Kaineng, Blackgate(maybe not so much Blackgate), Maguuma.

Dragonbrand and Fort Aspenwood are also populated, and you get small queues, but they are pretty good at WvW.

If you want no queues, Stormbluff Isle, Ehmery Bay, Crystal Desert, Isle of Janthir, Devona’s Rest (pretty much all of the mid tier servers now). Instead of being awsome and hugely populated maps, the battles are a bit more strategic, I find, on these servers. The servers choose their battles, rather than rush and fight zerg vs zerg.

Its a matter of what you want. top tier server? queues? No queues? Strategic? Zerg?

Jade quarry since beta.. Longuest que during this week. Maybe 20 mins tops And that’s on prime time.

Back to topic.. Your server left ):
Also they just switch transfer to cost.. maybe try to hit some of your friendlist people if you still have some. Or try look up for a guild on the web/enjin sites of servers also helpful.

And you just explain what usually happens on servers with good guilds that communicate O_O

Only problem i have with pins… is that sometimes people been leading a map for 2-4 hours and someone new log and puts a pin/pulls people away from the objective.

Also all the random people that goes to EB gate and try to pick a fight while the commander trying to get klovan/oggerwatch/durios. You have 20-30 people being dumb without accomplish an objective.

The new daily seems to be a little more wvw oriented.. they still need to add a little more to it. Maybe add like capture 3 towers or something like that.

Pve always will be a requirement on any game(if you want top of the line gear). I know anet said.. you won’t farm dungeons for hours.. Which is truth.. With 2-3 runs a dungeon a day.. you can easily get any piece. It’s not like in other mmo’s where you sitting to wait for boss spawn and kill it 1351513515 times to get a one in a lifetime loot.

What wvwvw really needs.. Its quite a lot of things. For the most part it start becoming repeatitive specially for people that been here for a long time. Maybe add new king of the hill events where all 3 servers go for it and achieve something.. Something like the orb. But instead of a permanent buff maybe an 1 hour buff. Which i think it should be fair and would bring a big fight out of the.. I sit in tower while you treb/golem rush.

I like emote/jumping on death body of legendary/commander/bad player/chasers (people that dont get off my nut while im afk running).

I do dislike the people that spam emote when its an obvious 1 vs 3 and you almost kill all 3 and they get a lucky moment or when someone jumps in to help.

Culling only affects only affects on big fights unless your computer runs like a turtle. And i still don’t know.. why no one talks about mesmer veil.. lol

What kind of warrior do you play _
You can easily burst down a thief.. specially the horrible thiefs that go full zerk. I laugh at them on most of my characters.

Only thief build i find quite annoying and not because of the damage but the catch me if you can.. its pistol/condition.

I just spam laugh/sleep while they try kill me then i get bored and leave.

Truly Elementalists are balanced…

You mean, stand in a spot where they cannot be hit and take out enemy rams and catapults build upto the wall.
Aswell as use Smoke Screen to block Trebs firing at your tower/keep, just like Swirling Winds.
And Thieves are still better roamers then d/d Eles are, and nothing is better at sniping dollies, scouting or contesting keeps then a Thief. And lets also not forget the spammable blastfinisher, Clusterbomb.

i lol @ Ele not being better at roam than a thief. Ele can easily get away from a full zerg while thief has to sit on a shadow refugee hoping they don’t see it or they have a little brain on popping a CC.

Chain cc on the thief and thief gone. Trust me.

If a thief goes down to a door n gets a ram while a zerg watches without dying to aoe. I had give that thief all my money. Brave man.

All you can do is single target on a fight. You go for your kill and you plan on killing. If the group your atacking is bad or lack communication/tactics.. the “stealth” finish goes on like nothing. You get away with it.

If you actually go against a good group/guild. Oh trust me.. there will be a warrior hammering while 2 guys ress the down person. And thats how it should be. If your group/party/guild cant assist to help you while your down. It doesn’t really make a difference the stealth finish.
I think it’s a viable option for a thief. And anyone can stealth finish.. I use shadow refugee on down players n my party often finish them off without me (The thief) having to do it.

Its just a simple combo field. Just like any other in game.. Now.. If we wanna complain of culling and stealth.

You don’t see the problem that when fighting against thiefs and he down someone it will take 2 people to ress the 1 person with 1 just swinging in the air , while if there was no stealth finishing you would see if the person is getting finished or not?
All actions except running should break stealth imo.

Nope, cause almost any class on this game have a skill during downtime to get away from a finisher. If you can’t time yours at the right time. Then its really up to you.

Only one that have a hard time are guardian/warrior and ranger. Even though they all can hit you while stealth on their down skill.

And most actions do break stealth. Any skills that you use breaks stealth. You do realize that thief is about stealth. We have a lack of aoe/stability/CC. Our only weapon is using stealth on our advantage.

Trust me.. theres worst stuff like Ele being available to 4v1

P.s. Getting back to the topic. I can hardly see a thief pulling this off if the other classes know what they doing.

Most of the classes you mention can outlast a thief and even burst him.

Lets see..

Warrior/Guardian/Ele CC > thief CC
Warrior/Guardian/Ele HP > Thief Hp
Warrior/Guardian/Ele Though> Thief Though

All you need to do is chain cc a thief or burn their antibreak stun (Shadowstep) and you can kill easily.

I play a thief and if i play against a Good Warrior/Guardian/Ele.. I have a hard time getting them down.

But if we talking about Berzerk gear warrior/guardian/ele or horrible players. Thief just eats them all the time.

Trust me. Thiefs are far beyond Unbalance as having 30 Heals (guardian), amazing mobility/sustain/burst (Elementalist), 100blades/snipe shot(warrior).

P.S. i have ele, warrior, ranger and thief.

So we don’t get the whole “you defend your class”.

Sorry Habib but this is the absolute WORST time for a server rating reset. Please hear me out.

Look at the predicted T1 to T3 right now. These will be the best matches we have for weeks.

Jade Quarry
Sanctum of Rall
Sea of Sorrows

Blackgate
Tarnished Coast
Fort Aspenwood

Kaineng
Maguuma
Dragonbrand

All 9 of these servers can wvw very well. Many people have waited WEEKS for epic battles like these.

At lower tiers, things are FINALLY settling in. We got weaker servers facing weaker servers. The matches won’t be lopsided anymore. May people have waited WEEKS for the matches to even out.

If you guys reset the rating right now, you would be placing some of these top 9 teams with weak server. These weaker server will be overrun “again”. What we would get is more outcry. More trash talking. None of these are positive for the game.

I strongly recommend that you guys reconsider this decision. Postpone this for a month and see how things go first. Thank you.

I rather have Blackgate than SoS on tier 1. They at least try.

Being on SoS since i got the game at Launch We have been through A lot and I Haven’t really ever seen us talk the trash that i see JQ doing on a daily basis, on the forums here. I think the best part is you guys think your good. There are no tactics to how you play, all you have is a big zerg that just roll over people. But what was really amazing was for 6 hours we rolled Both servers that where attacking us on both sides and still held the castle with holes in the walls. We have amazing commanders that use skill and tactics Not brooding zerg. Also i don’t post much, but when it comes to 2 v 1, its happening the only reason why you say we are crying is because guess what you are in 1 and 2. hmmmmm just something to think about. Hmmmmm SoS held the top spot for how long?…………. I think it was 10 weeks straight, i could be off but hey it just goes to show that it took a stack server and getting 2 v 1 to take us down. Have a nice day.

It looks more like your server not even trying.. at least jade quarry put work when we were 2nd place.

I still don’t get how BG doing better.. Maybe A lot of SoS jump the ship already.

the main problem of lack of wvw on lower tier..

2 main reasons:
1.- The ranking/point system. (This is mainly for 3rd place servers)
Once a server hits a big difference like 10-20k ahead the others.. the servers just go like .. F-it.. i go do pve till next week. This often turns the game on 1v1 and often just kill the whole point of having 3 servers.

Fix.- whoever gets 3rd.. should be kick to a lower tier. Instead of having 1-2 months with the same match. It would force the servers to actually try for keeping their tier.

2.- number of servers.-

25 US servers and 25 euro servers? (Not sure if im right)
but thats a lot of servers… And lower tiers have no real aspiration to wvw.. To be honest most of the people looking to wvw often tend to switch to tier 1 or 2.
