This game is going to be arena net’s front runner for at least 5 more years probably. Don’t hold your breath.
I think it’s very presumptuous of everyone to constantly say GW2 is “poorly optimized”.
Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, but what evidence do we have?
From my observations, I think the network is the real bottleneck – the game has no trouble rendering large numbers of entities, but the network traffic for 70 people to play together is kind of insane.
Maybe a graphics overhaul would make sense in 4-5 more years, but not at this point.
The proof is in the pudding. Just a few examples:
1. 90-360 camera rotations incur huge FPS drops for a huge majority of the player base.
2. Every ten feet in new LA has an FPS vortex that more or less crash unfortunate folk. (This applies to a ton of locations, LA is just a good example)
3. Heart of thorns map stability is about as strong as a limp noodle.
The list goes on.
I’m not one to talk trash on Anet, but you have to be wearing rose-tinted glasses to not see how poorly optimized this game really is.
This has been a losing fight for over a year now. The fact of the matter is that it’s easy to make outfits (armor entails clipping), and anet has shown through all of its actions it’d rather do what’s easy than what’s good/right.
Yep it is, but it’s the best they could deliver (which is really troubling) in the small amount of time they took to develop Tempest. Clearly it was rushed – even Rebound was completely remade in record time and never adjusted. They removed the might from cantrips to give it to fire overloads (else fire overload would be completly worthless), powerful auras overlap the shouts (what a bad design).
Have you seen a fight between 2 tempest ele? It’s the most boring thing ever. There is so little damage going on that you can have a discussion while fighting.
With Staff it’s even worse because the overloads don’t make any sense at 1200 range.
This. Class is rushed and pretty much terrible.
Wall Street Simulator 2015.
Usually, Glint shiro for DPS maximization (impossible odds is a hell of a skill). Take Mallyx if you’re filling the boon strip role.
This is all I’ve ever wanted. For three years.
Exactly. This is why raids need to have a reasonable success rate for coherent and organized pugs. Unfortunately this is not the current reality of gw2, mainly because of the implementation of raid timers.
It all comes back to raid timer. It’s a horrible horrible mechanic.
Ppl should just find a guild they can raid with. In gw2 ppl can be in multiple guilds so no problem to be in ones with different focus.
The problem is that it has to be 10 dedicated players with common free time. It is easier said then done. Obviously, it is not as difficult for ppl who have tons of time playing. But majority of players have work and life, there is only certain hours of the day they can play.
Ding ding ding. This guy’s right on. At the end of the day, coherent raid pugs should have a moderate success rate. Only a very small minority of the gaming community have access to nine other skilled players who have as much free time as they do to complete this content.
This is true. Putting a cap on raid rewards leaves the people who are struggling alone when the raid finishers are capped out.
Take my upvote. The actual raid content and combat is hard enough for 99% of the gw2 community without the timer. Those saying that you can just tank it into easy mode are wrong on two fronts. One, tanks are still going to need to be in the upper echelon of playerbase skill given how mechanically demanding the raid is. Two, the effective zerker runners are still completing the raid more efficiently, and thus are earning more for their time put in.
Let’s not make raiding something that is exclusive to only elitist guilds, rather lets make raids something that dedicated players can enjoy.
