As of late, I’ve noticed last refuge as a pleasant surprise rather than having an adverse effect. I’m constantly aware of reveal, but last refuge can throw a kink in that timing. Like I said, it has helped me more than it has hurt me lately, but it has sold me out many times.

AE Blind when health lands below 25% might not be too bad of a trade off.

A skill you sort of “have” to take that can kill you as often or more than it can help you is no bueno.

Back on topic: I die to getting out played. Trying to stay that extra second for a stomp or fighting just a bit too long. I usually solo or small group, so it’s mainly getting outplayed or zerged down.

I used 0/0/30/20/20. I’m not a number cruncher and this build could be so bad I’ll get laughed at, but I did enjoy D/D + SB Condition when I ran it. A lot of health and a lot of survivability. I probably pulled this build from somewhere a long long time ago, but happen to have a screen shot saved.

I remember having close to 21k Health and could survive a lot of fights. My turn off was when I ran into another player with good condition removal. I was pretty much doing nothing to them at that point. It’s a fun build though.

Again, I’m not pro. I do like to solo roam and this was something I tried for a couple of months, but found it fun.

Now just running 0/30/30/10/0 D/P solo. That’s fun as well.

Last night in Isle of Janthir borderlands there were around 10-15 theives either from Darkhaven or Denrova’s Rest. Can’t remember the guild name, but they were all thieves and did a pretty good job of clean up on a lot of people.

I’m sure you have looked, but have you checked out the cultural? If I remember right, the tier 3 is more of a tank top, but there’s really only half a trenchcoat on it. Doesn’t look too bad, but not my preference.

Pro tip: The fastest (and most fun, in my opinion) way to level is D/D + Shortbow focussing on condition damage with Death Blossom which will make you as unkillable as your Necromancer (especially if you trait right for it, which is actually very easy as you level, since almost every trait you get is going to directly benefit you if you do it right).

This…. and I wish I had this information back in the beginning when I created my thief. It was a rough and slow go, but D/D Condition will do well especially against multiple mobs, which I’m sure you’re having issues with. I did.

Not real sure what you’re looking for. I tried to mix some armor sets together. Some badge armor, the krytan armor skin on BL trading post and some Karma armor. I look pretty bland, but I think it’s fitting.

On Isle of Janthir at the moment. My guild currently consists of a whopping 3 people. While we have multiple 80s, we most recently just roam on our thieves as a trio. It’s a good time.

A question: The sigil of leeching says that you gain its benefit after switching to that weapon while in combat. Since eles don’t get weapon swapping, how does that work with this build?

Attunement swapping is considered weapon swapping.

If it makes you feel better, I can regale you with recent tales of my victories over thieves.

Two days ago, killed two thieves 2v1. Both level 80, not upleveled. WvW
About 30 minutes ago, go jumped on by a thief while I was at 30% health. Hey guess what, i won without even healing. Also lv 80 not upleveled in WvW.

I can give you all the anecdotes you want. They don’t constitute evidence any more than your anecdotes of you being killed evidences thieves being OP.

For the record I play guardian, and yes, there are plenty of thieves that outplay me. In my experience, people like you think thieves are OP and try to play one not realizing that everyone can kill uplevels really really easily. You guys become the type of people that I destroy above ^. Yes, I’ve been totally destroyed by every kind of thief build at least once, they are good players, I don’t cry OP. I’ve also destroyed every thief build at least once as well. They don’t go on the guardian forums crying about guardians being OP.

Sorry, I was extremely proud that I beat that thief at 30% hp and I needed to chest thump (altho he probably let his guard down thinking I’d be an easy kill at that point)

fact is thieves can run glass canon and have more survivability than any other class along with the most damage. other classes get actively punished for running glass canon because they can’t go invis and run away to compensate for high dps. if a glass of any other class gets caught unawares they die. if a thief is surprised he stealths and skips away.

thieves could take a 50% dmg reduction and they’d still be amazing. if a thief doesn’t win in a 1v1 right now they must be really bad.

also play a glass canon ranger. it’s a glass canon thief without the canon or the defense from invis.

vespers, a picture will prove little. I would encourage you to roll a thief and go full GC. Let us know your findings. I’ve seen thieves hit for 12K+ on BS crits with the right set up.

I’ve played D/D GC, D/D Condition, D/P backstab/survival, P/D Condition and my findings are that….. I’m a mediocre player. Why don’t I perform like the superstars in the videos are? I have the same gear, same build, etc…… Maybe I switch my builds too much to settle in to one that fits me perfect.

I need to learn my thief (which I’ve played for a long time) the same way you need to learn how to counter a thief with the class you’re playing. I didn’t think the numbers you showed were anything new. Apparently you just zoned into WvW.

If you want to play WvW on the most populated servers then expect consequences (skill lag).

Like people quitting the game? What exactly is your point? To argue that we shouldn’t ask for something that they marketed the game as being able to do?

And this is actually a complaint over something they recently created. The lag delay on abilities used to happen every now and then, now it is always happening in all aspects of the game.

I play on tier 4 and don’t experience skill lag. That’s my point.

Your point is….. we should all transfer to your server. That should fix it.

My 1st character is a warrior i played with it for a long time, get to lv80 and go pvp.

and i just made a thief (never touched one) and got to level 4 and went to pvp and can already kill people with decent speed like my warrior without knowing how most of the skills work. and can deal with multiple people and escape while needed.
some times even doing better then my warrior

it’s really really good

also it helped me with my warrior about how to deal with thieves.

Could you post a video of your level 4 thief, killing and dealing with multiple people. I would love to watch.

It’s play style related, I suggest looking at some youtube videos to get a sense of what’s what. Personally I prefer condition, I tend to die a lot with the burst kind of build, and I find condition builds to be better equipped to dealing with large mobs and in dungeons.

Couldn’t have said it better for my own preference. I have both sets of armor; GC & Condition.

I don’t care much for the GC and I’m sure that’s because I never took the time to be real good at it (might give it another go). The condition build has a lot more survivability for me, and like Silver said, can be better against many folks. Although you do see good GC theives taking our multiple targets quite efficiently.

I have a GC set and a D/D + SB condition set. I much prefer running with my condition build. I’ll admit, I have not tried the direct damage with survival traits.

There’s just too much that can and will go wrong against a competent opponent if you’re playing GC. GC build is fun for a few kills. You laugh how you killed someone in 1 second, then you realize you have 12k hps and it’s not so funny.

I haven’t tried P/D condition still. I just like D/D SB for some reason. You don’t kill things super fast, but you have a ton of suvivability and can put pressure on multiple enemies with a few death blossoms and a choking gas.

I say try them both and come to your own conclusion. That’s how I made my choice.

The solo roamer?

Solo roaming as a Mesmer is fun. A zerg will crush you and a 5-man will probably kill you but you can win 1v1 or even 1v3.

The problem with solo roaming though is that you aren’t really helping to do anything constructive for your team on the map.

I would consider a solo roamer to be perhaps more aware of what’s going on in the map, than an F8 autoattacker running with the zerg. I wouldn’t be so quick to say a solo roamer is doing little to help their team. Especially when they could provide advanced scouting tips, take check points for distractions, and stop would be zerger stragglers from joining the masses.

I like EB JP. If I had a complaint it would be the planting of siege at the top of the arena. Arrow carts, ballista, and catapults. I don’t see this as a necessary tactic and think siege should be eliminated from the jump puzzle.
The PvP & trap elements are great, but sieging is a joke. That’s just my opinion.

Most people shoot down this DAoC stuff without taking into consideration that they might just like it too.

God forbid people want to make guild wars a better game by looking at “the game” that laid some of the best frame work in the genre.

Yeah, but I already know I enjoy WvWvW as is. So why would any sane person risk losing something they enjoy in order to try out something different, because it would make someone they’ve never met happier?

Obviously that “best frame work” is a subjective assessment based on how you enjoy playing a game. Right now, in my limited experience, GW2 has the “best frame work.” My opinion in this matter and yours are equally valid.

Okay… So I should want to change the game to accommodate a bunch of players who don’t enjoy the game as is, when I do, so that I keep more of those people around, at the expense of potentially not being able to enjoy it myself, and losing the people like myself who enjoy it as is?

If you’re not a good Pvper then yes. Guild wars 1 was much better about rewarding skilled play. This game is amazing in WvW if you suck at Pvp in general.

It doesn’t have to be either/or.

Jairon has raised these concerns in other threads, and I believe they were addressed. The rational argument is allow different types of play, not eliminate the one you don’t like.

At the moment, zerg-play overwhelms all else. WvW needs to get to a place where solo, small group (<10), mid-group and zerg are viable forms of play. There are some niches where the others can operate (e.g. small Thief gank squad), but overall it’s the zerg or bust.

That’s why people are asking for gameplay like what DAoC offered. The RvR was great. You could solo, you could duo, you could 8 man, and you could zerg. There was something out there for everyone…… all on one huge map.

The fact one player if skilled could take out 2-3 players was considered awesome at the time. Rarely was there whining about getting classes nerfed (it happened, just not as much as you see it today <warlock>). 3 good players could take out an 8 man and an 8 man could extend a zerg or bomb an afk zerg standing around waiting for their zergfest. Obviously you could easily reverse those outcomes and that’s fine, but that fact remained that you could pretty much run out into the Frontier and find a fight and have a blast doing it.

Part of the problem is the busy lives we lead. We live in an instant gratification world and people want to take that Tower or Keep, right now! There’s not much time for a group of would be defenders to react, which doesn’t promote fighting… it promotes point swapping. So in reality we are left with fighting PvE mobs to PvP. There are no more long sieges.

Most people assume they are awesome at the game so it must mean there is something overpowered about the opposing class. Where I would probably ask myself …. what did I do wrong in the fight to lose?

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion and everyone is right about their own. What I think the original poster was trying to do was promote an environment of Fun gameplay for more than just one type of PvP demographic. Zerg is in fact ruling the majority of WvW. Any change to cater to the other options would never take away from the zerg….. you cant stop zerg.

The biggest problems with WvW …

1.) culling
2.) it isn’t DAoC RvR

Arena net simply does not care about small mans in WvW. Every single step they take encourages zerging. I just want a dev response as to why they aren’t copying DAoC.

The mindless zergling idiots are still going to play when they get wiped a few times by a small man.

MAYBE… Just maybe they will try to stop sucking.

and don’t say go to sPvP. It isn’t fleshed out enough as a mode to even compete or compare with free mmos right now.

I’m looking for the like button.

I hope they nerf the hell out of thief ....

I’m trying to grasp the meaning of the topic. Die to 2 or 3 players so the class should be nerfed…….. the build you “faceroll” in most cases. Once they are nerfed and you can take all those BS theives, should your build be nerfed since you’re taking out 3 by yourself?

I agree, Fletch. I often check the header of the forum to make sure I’m not in a bug/fixes/complaint forum. I feel bad for people that want to come here and try to find something useful about their class when it’s flooded with garbage.

Sounds like your pull is broke against a specific ability. I think classes should use their abilities to their full potential even if a bit unorthodox. I will continue to travel with my short bow. Was it meant to get away or port to a target? I use it for mobility. You see a lot of thieves use HS to close the gap between them and their target to finish them off. Is that use acceptible? Not much difference to me.

As someone earlier in the thread already said, it sounds like your ability isnt working correctly in conjunction with HS. Thats the real problem.

Side note, I dont use HS to escape. I rarely use it at all.

To me, the skill cool down is fine and understandable. When I want to weapon swap it is for a reason. If I’m running D/D and want to switch to SB, I don’t like being locked out of the ability to switch. Presumably my next action is going to be with SB, thus the reason for switching. As it stands, I have to wait for it to let me switch… then I can do the command. Being able to switch whenever and waiting for a “global skill cooldown” is better than waiting for the green light to be able to switch the weapon. I don’t know if what I just typed makes any sense.

Whether you claim it or not….. You are good. Well done. There will always be class balancing issues, but I think Prof Sens could put a video out of every class that he/she took the time to learn and you could argue the class should be nerfed. In turn I could put a video out of my lackluster play and claim the theif needs a boost.
