Use rares if you want spark. The only precursor i use exotics on is The Lover since its Cheap. Rares are almost ALWAYS better. I’ve pulled 28 precursors from the forge. 8 of them being Spark. I play the forge daily. Trust me, go with rares.

The Mystic forge has been something HIGHLY talked about since release. Some people like the RNG, most do not. But the way precursors are acquired right now is FINE. IT keeps them high value, very rare, and VERY saught after. ArenaNet is totally in the right to make them so hard to get because it is only a COSMETIC upgrade. You don’t need it. It wont make you hit harder, or play better. It’s just something nice to have.

Ive played the mystic forge A TON. More than most people. I love the gamble, the thrill. But i have had my fair share of HUGE wins and HUGE let downs. People will complain about spending 3, 4, 5 hundred gold and getting nothing. Then they come here and complain. Well let me say something. We ALL have the EXACT same chance of getting precursors. I have more experience than most and even I have had a streak of 800g where ive got nothing. But I’ve also had huge wins like yesterday, I got 4 Precursors from it in one day. (Dawn, Dusk, Spark, The Lover). I first got dawn, sold it, then got dusk, sold it, then got Spark and The Lover. Total gold spent? About 700g total. I got The Lover in just 4 attempts while Dawn was about 200g, Dusk about 300g, and Spark in about 180g. So yes, EVERYONE has low points, and everyone has high points. Im just here to say if you stick with it, the forge will usually reward you well. I’ve got 28 precursors total from the forge. It’s my main source of income, and I’m thrilled it’s in this game.

And if anyone is curious the precursors ive got and how many are as follow.
10x Dusk, 4x Dawn, 3x The Lover, 8x Spark, 1x The Hunter, 1x Rage, and 1x The Legend.

Been a while since I needed karma, but now i need another 575k to have enough for Obsidian Shards to Incinerator. What’s the newest best way? I know of WvW and Queensdale Champ farm, but is there anything that really blows these out of the water?

Im curious as to how good people are at saving and where I stand when it comes to wealth in this game. Currently I have 1849 gold. Saving for the Dreamer at the moment.
I use the Mystic Forge to get my gold.

Precursor for achievement points… lol ruins the prestige. People just want easy legendaries. These posts are getting tiring.

The guy above me has it right. In an MMO there is no “Hard” content. They make content designed so it’s accessible and everyone and every class can do it. A “hard quest” just wouldn’t be the way to make precursors harder to get. Also. All this talk about the Scavenger hunt. Before i ever even finished my legendary (Before all this MF fun) i thought the scavenger hunt idea was a terrible stupid idea that would take the coolness of precursors away. They already have alternate ways to get precursors, use em. Want a grind? Grind gold and buy it off TP. Wanna chance your luck? Mystic forge.

So what are people asking for then? You just want the legendary’s to be flat our easier to aquire? You want them to be less rare? Should Anet just throw the legendaries all in a vendor like the Teir 3 armor and assing gold costs to them?

What people want, but won’t come right out and say, is this:

I want a legendary weapon so that people will see me with it and be jealous. I don’t want them to be easy to get, I just want ME to have it. Because I see other people with legendary weapons and I am jealous of them, so I want other people to be jealous of me.

There are thousands of players out there with legendaries, and more of them every month. The problem for the complainers is that they don’t have their weapon now and don’t want to wait to get it. But if the system were to be tweaked so that it was easier, a lot more people would get them and then they wouldn’t feel special, so they would still complain because at any given moment there are 50 Twilights running around Lion’s Arch.

They will complain no matter what, so just ignore the complaints, they don’t really mean anything.

The unfairness? RNG is 100% fair. It’s like the lottery. Is the lottery unfair? No. You choose to play and you know your odds.

At the moment, I think people have a better chance at winning the lottery than gaining a precursor. Putting end-game gear as an RNG “chance to get it” is unbelievably ridiculous and should not have even been considered an aspect of this game. I spent more than 2000 hours ALONE just buying rares and throwing in exotics until I ran out of money. I did this daily and didn’t ever get a single worthwhile exotic or even a glimpse at a precursor. If you want a precursor, you have to grind the money for it, or have a chance to get it to drop. The mystic forge shouldn’t even exist. It probably exists only to get players to play more by making them dump all of their hard earned money down the forge and making them start from scratch. I don’t hate people like you for getting precursors whenever you feel lucky. I hate Anet for even implementing this stupid design in the first place.

The only reason to have the gears that comes from the mystic forge is to look nice. It has the same stats as easy to acquire end game gear. This is why the RNG on it IS acceptable.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I’m sure that Blurryz is right and that some people spend 50g then give up, but I’ve spent much more than that on exotics that I pay ~85s each for, and rares as well, and I’ve gotten nada.

I know RNG is RNG, and we see it everywhere in the game. The dragon coffers, for example, there were people who opened over 6000 regular coffers to get 1 weapon ticket, and there were people who opened less than 5 to get one. The difference between that scenario and this one is that Blurz seems like one of the lucky ones that got a ticket in less than 5 boxes, but several times in a row, and then got even more tickets with a few hundred more attempts.

At this point I’m seriously considering sending you 300g and letting you MF Dawn for me, Blurz =P

I have had guildies ask me to do that for them. I usually say no cause i don’t want to feel bad if it doesn’t work out. If you would like, i could do that for you, but i doubt you would want to since im just some guy over the internet

I only use 80 rares. I sell back the Exotics i get. Also, yes, i go for specific Precursors using the weapon type it requires.

Or they spent 2-3k hours playing and general and got nothing. 2-3 Hours unless you’re actively going for a precursor isnt much. If you spend that much time, just outright buy one like i did when i made my legendary. You can farm 4-6g an hour consistintly in good spots so i dont see what people with so much time played are doing :S

Of all the things in GW2, probably the only thing I can not stand is the fact that to obtain a legendary you need to use the Mystic forge and rely on RNG or same thing rely on drop RNG from world/dungeon drops.

This infuriates me the most in mmos because there is no way to work at something like this when it is only based on luck and not time invested. I don t mind doing something twice a day for a year to obtain something…I mind doing something twice a day for a year and have no guarantees of reaching the goal.

I can not stand the mystic forge because it s a game of chance and in games of chance the odds are ALWAYS in favor of the house. I don t play the lottery since it is a tax on people who are bad at math but I would love to start working on a legendary item but at the moment it make zero sense for me to invest more time in the game trying to reach an objective I know I could simply never attain due to RNG.

Tell me I need 100.000 kills in wvw to buy an item to open a solo dungeon that I need to run 1000 times to get an item that I can mix with (insert other similar item requirements) and I will be happy.

At the moment I can t even think about a legendary until a rare drop comes out of nowhere. I hate this system of legendaries

Your right, I’ve had 2 precursors in 3 days from rares – about 3-5 gold worth. First was the chaos gun from 4 random yellows then this morning I had a feeling so made 12 yellow Greatswords, first 4 in and I get Dawn. Which is nice as I’m going for Sunrise as my 2nd Legendary.

In the past when I was originally going for Sunrise I was around 1500-2000 rare greatswords in and nothing. Then swapped to shield and it took another 30+ exotics and 1500+ rare shields to get the precursor shield. Since then another 70+ exotics and no idea how many yellows and nothing. Then the last 2 days and two of them.

Also go 2 jade tickets from around 3-4k normal coffers.

It’s funny, I saw your original post in the crafting forum that stated you’d be trying for The Lover that evening and I was interested to see how you did. Then I see in the main discussion forums like the next day that you got it on try #1. Dirtbag! =P And now Spark in less than 60g. Congrats, sir! Definitely the craziest MF experience I’ve ever heard.

I know! I’ve gone from scrounging Gold for Weapons to having 800g once this has sold! I actually recorded getting the spark, it will be on youtube tomorrow if you’d like me to update thread once its up.

Hey guys. Blurry here, if you browse the forums much, im the guy who just made “The Lover” in one try on the Mystic Forge. I’m here today with an idea that i got while trying to sell my precursor.

Currently the only way to trade is via the Black Lion Trading Post. Where on some items (Precursors or Legendaries) the listing fees are huge. I listed my Lover at 525g and it costed about 26g to list. Since then, 5 people have undercut me and i believe that it will take a very long time to sell but i don’t want to take it off and relist it. SO. Where am i going with this? Well i have a guild mate who wanted to buy it. I said i’d sell it to him for 500g and he said that was fair but the lack of a player to player trade system made this impossible. Neither of us wanted to go first, too much was on the line. So how about this!

How about a kit you can get with gems from the gem store. A 1 or 3 or 5 time use trading kit, letting you do a trade between players. I would LOVE this right now. It avoids listing fees yet is still a gold sink cause you have to buy it with gems and if you use real money, puts some money in Anets pocket.

Thoughts? Open to suggestions or people telling me “ur dumbz lawl”

CoF farming is NOT the fastest way to get gold. I’m sorry. Explore the game a bit more and find little farm spots here and there and there are definitly better ones.
