How to download beta on a different drive?

Hey, this might be a stupid question but I was informed that the beta is the full 25GB when you download it, and I do not have 25GB available on my main drive (it’s a small-ish SSD).

When downloading, how do I make it so the client puts the files on my secondary drive?

Elementalist itself needs several things:

  • SURVIVABILITY! This is perhaps the most important weakness to any elementalist. No matter what build we take we’re always subjected to an extremely low health pool. Sure, we have a lot of heals to make up for that, but a lot of the time the damage outweighs the healing (thieves and warriors). Perhaps as others have suggested, increase the base heals and reduce how HP affects them, and, more importantly, an increase in our health pool or a trait that increases our health pool would be benefitial and not OP.
  • Better weapon/utility skills. I’m looking at you, focus. Generally staff, dagger, and scepter skills are alright… but looking at most of the focus skills I just can’t use them. Both of the fire skills just need completely reworked. I can go on and on with this, so, in short, focus skills need looked at. A lot. Also, utilities need a lot of work (when survivability is in mind), as the only current viable skills for any PvP elementalist are cantrips.
  • Better elites. Seriously, I’m tired of only having one decent skill (yes, Tornado, and even then it’s not that great comparatively) that is only good in certain situations. Maybe an elite signet? Something passive would be nice, especially when it boosts survivability.
  • More variety in builds. I know you guys have been working on this a lot, but there’s still tons to do (especially with eles!). I’d like to be able to try any sort of build and not have it be less viable than the current, boring meta (that is, 20-30 in Arcana and Water, which is still unfortunately needed). I like the changes to condition damage elementalist and it would be nice if those changes would be expanded and replicated with other types (direct damage/zerker, bunker, etc.)

I’d just like to quickly thank JQ and SOR for their lovely bag donation last night. 6 hours of commanding on SoR BL, I think we wiped both blobs about 20 times each during their relentless assault on bay. Ended up with a bay WP and 40+ heavy loot bags by the end of the night, so thanks.

You had 3 guilds running together. You outnumbered SoR and JQ lol.

Our map wasn’t even full. The majority of the night it was me and the militia, with NAGA running a 10 man havoc squad. We weren’t even actively running together, you guys just kept dying, respawning, then running straight back to bay to die again, so it made it pretty easy for us to link up with NAGA on defence. PiNK came later on but they were also running less than 10. My zerg was around 25-30, mainly militia.

Even if you were outnumbered, why did you keep suiciding on our gate over and over and over? We were blatantly kicking your kitten , I’m just really curious as to why you wanted the punishment so bad.

even as you said it that’s 3 guilds running together outnumbering SoR and JQ
where’s the argument?

I’d also like to point out that for the majority of T1 matches in the past few months, BG has won first place with a 20k+ advantage over the other two servers, and now, when they are losing, they are acting like a child who has had their toy taken away.

Maybe it’s just the fairweather players having nothing else to do but rage on the forums but BG really needs to learn to fight under uncertain conditions… it’s not an easy win for you anymore.

EDIT: For clarification, no, that does not mean “buy more guilds”. You have the people, use them intelligently.

Please. BG has been stacking for months and now you cry when we get 3 new guilds? If 3 guilds is all it takes to beat BG then maybe some server reorganization is in order… and no, I don’t mean buying more guilds…

What else would it take to beat us? Man-power = points, everyone knows that. You still harping on BG buying guilds after you stack a timezone enough to que 3 maps?

Your whole argument is filled with hypocrisy. Just two weeks back this situation was the opposite . It’s not like we have no reason to recruit, as we’ve been struggling in 3rd place for the past few months… did we recruit to the extreme? Certainly enough to outmatch BG thus far, but we’re missing our 3rd head. We will have to see how truly strong JQ is when we get the good old JQ/SoR/BG matchup again.

Roaming DPS build for WvW?

Hey guys, I just leveled my guardian to 80 and I am looking for a direction in which to gear and trait for solid WvW solo roaming.

Most builds I’ve found thus far (that have been updated) focus on healing and do very little damage, which can be good for group playing but definitely not for solo play.

I’m looking for a DPS oriented (with some healing, so not entirely glass cannon) WvW roaming build that’s strong enough to take down enemies and not be melted by 1-2 extra players.

I’m open to all suggestions!

Didn’t know this much whining about a matchup you were never meant to win was possible. Hope MAG gets paired with SoR and BG next week, you’ll love it.

I think we’d prefer any server that has at least trace amounts of skillful players over JQ at this point.

JQ would probably say the same.

All I’ve seen is daily video evidence of JQ blobs of superior numbers getting wiped over and over again by maguuma players, or running to towers/siege from numerically-inferior maguuma small groups.

I wouldn’t be surprised though if its just from JQ’s inability to figure out how to screen capture that is holding them back.

PPT =/= Skill

I know, it’s a new concept for JQ, but it’s also reality.

Hmm, if Maguuma’s skill is defeating groups with superior numbers, explain to me how they fail to hold on to any one keep for more than a day. Surely when the zergs come they would just wipe them “over and over again” instead of risk the capture…

In fact, from what I’ve seen, it’s been quite the opposite. Might just be the “superior numbers” but your post seems to deem otherwise.

And you’re right, potential points do not reflect skill but effort. The higher it is, the more or (often) less effort it takes to outmatch your enemies. Maguuma was doing so well on Friday, too… coverage gaps, I suppose.

Then again, Jade Quarry is fighting against two T3 servers, not much room to brag or boast, so good luck to both of you. Hopefully we will jump back into the fight with BG/SoR next week. Sure, new servers are fun and all but there is little/no challenge outside of T1 given the differences in coverage and numbers between the servers.

No hate though, I hate hating.

Summon Power Suit: What can be done

I think the suit could immediatly be made more useful if it served as a second hitpoint bar. Most stuff in the game serves as a weaker analogue to another classes ability – ie.

Call Warband -> Thieves Guild
Take Root -> Supply Crate
D-Series Golem -> Shield of the Avenger
Norn Forms -> Rampage

etc.

The golem suit acting as a second hitpoint bar could be argued to be Op – but I’d argue that it’d basically be a weaker analogue to necro’s Death Shroud – the attack skills don’t have to be very good, the primary function would be to allow the pilot to soak up an additional amount of damage (Bonus poin ts if the suit also provides a shedload of extra toughness, so that it draws aggro away from the team)

As it stands, any damage the golem recieves goes straight to the pilot and if the hitpoint bar reaches zero, the pilot is downed too – even if the pilot ejects, his hitpoints remain where they were when he was mounted.

The idea of the suit being a second hitpoint bar makes sense but does not fit with the other “suits” in game. For example, the Alpha Siege Golem and Hazmat Suit, when destroyed, also down the player. However, I think if they made SPS unique in this aspect it’d give a lot more importance to it and make it actually valuable as an elite skill, especially in PvE where soaking damage is important.

Actually D-Series Golem is arguably better than Shield of the Avenger. It activates the reflect bubble twice in it’s duration, and although you can’t control it, it can be devastatingly strong.

Norn Forms are also typically stronger than Rampage.

And Summon 7-Series Golem has an attack similar to volley that consists of projectile finishers (his fists are projectiles!)

I can agree to that, and now that I think of it, the suit being stronger than some other elite skills doesn’t seem as alarming. Whether the class-specific elites are too weak or the race-specific elites are too strong is up for Anet to decide. I really hope they take a look at SPS, though, because it really is a fun idea.

I honestly think this elite skill has tons of potential that is going to waste. I’d love to use it if it were not so useless.


If it were up to me to take it upon myself to change the skill for the better, I’d start by doing the following:

  • Increase movement speed by 10-25%.
  • Decrease casting time of Punch.
  • Decrease aftercast of all skills.
  • Move skill Self Repair to the healing skill slot.
  • Move skill Leave Suit to the elite skill slot.
  • Move skill Whirling Assault into skill slot #5.
  • Create a skill that pulls foes towards you and place it into skill slot #4.
  • Allow movement while casting Gatling Fists.
  • Remove active duration on suit (60 seconds) by allowing the suit to be in use until going into a downed state or exiting. This system would be more consistent with the Hazmat Suit. The cooldown begins once the suit is destroyed.

Damage: The damage seems to be alright, at least at level 80, as I was testing this skill on Risen mobs in Cursed Shore. I don’t think the attacks should be buffed themselves, they just need to be better adapted to lower levels, such as level 30 when you are first able to use it.

“This skill is meant to be dull”: Some of you may be saying something of the sort—arguing that racial elites are meant to be inferior to class elites. I do not argue against that, but I think the skill should at least be entertaining to use.

Comments? Something that could still be improved? Something too OP?

Hardly. Servers come and go (in and out of tier one) but Jade Quarry never leaves. We’re too selfish for that.

I do wonder how this new anti-tier system will work for this week’s reset, though…

Who we are…

We’re a somewhat new guild looking for new, mature people to play alongside with; whether they be experienced or just beginning is not a concern. We’ll be doing dungeons, WvW, fractals, events—just simply playing the game together. We are a small guild who is focused on getting to know one another by heart and not by name.

As Pumillion said if they are changing to 1000 BoH it would also freak me out.
If you play active WvW everyday and you go with the zerg you can have 1000 badges within 2 weeks. It can go fast so i think changing it to BoH isn’t a good idea either.

Try finding an replacement that equals 100 gold. In the end i think there is none. And for most players 100 gold isn’t easy obtainable. So they would rather spend it on there endgame then on buying a stupid sign above your head and calling orders in WvW :P

There’s a whole page of WvW achievements. Just tie it to that and then put a (small) gold amount on it to stop everyone doing it.

So, for example, you reach tier 3 (or whatever) in every element of the WvW achievements, then pay 30G to unlock commander. Then you know they’ve played a lot of WvW (and many aspects of it), want the title, and it stops everyone throwing it on just because they’ve got the achievements.

I think you both contribute to a main idea (Xerion pointing out the problem and CrakittenestAuto creating a solution), that is to use the achievements page to unlock the ability to command. However, I still think there should be a BoH price-tag associated with it.

As for the BoH amount equalling 100g, let’s put it this way: one alpha siege golem is a single gold piece, or 100 badges. 100(badges = 1g)*100(gold)=10000 BoH total. This may seem like an extreme amount but technically it fits.

  • I have added this in accordance to Crash’s achievement idea. 1000 BoH will stick, but it’ll require some sort of prerequisite.

There’s a counter-argument to say you can grind the JP’s (i made well over half my badges for the gift from the JP), but at least it shows you were in wvw.

Excellent point. In order to fix this, perhaps jumping puzzle chests will no longer reward you with BoH, instead only schematics/clothing (and thus making the grind pointless). I will add this in the top post.

Personally I would like for it to not be “bought” at all. In the current implementation of Badges of Honor, it is possible to be a poor commander and earn many badges, or a good commander and earn few (relatively at least, examples being chasing kill targets more than objectives vs organized support-build leader).

… there should be requirements other than gold added to the rank(perhaps a way to ensure your deserving of the honor of command or capable of leading).

Agreed. Perhaps a ranking system in WvW?

Something like so:
1-80 Ranks (much like the PvP system, albeit this does not replace experience totally)

  • WvW experience is tallied in the PvP UI, under a new tab
  • Players receive WvW experience by completing and participating in WvW events (tower/keep/camp/etc. capturing, yak running, siege building/deployment, etc.)
  • Commander books, which still require 500-1000 Badges of Honor, can only be purchased at rank 80.

A ranking system for WvW, although a pretty radical change, could solve several problems… but, one that is done right may require too much work from developers unless it is used for other things, such as new sets of Invader gear and weapons.

  • Replaced by the achievement prerequisite suggested by a comment. An achievement would be easier to code and more comprehensible.

Becoming a leader in WvW combat within the current system—which is simply raising and spending 100 gold pieces on a book—allows many inexperienced players to become Commanders; renowned players that, by definition, command other players in their squad to do specific tasks. This obviously can lead to many problems that can be back-breaking for server efforts. Additionally, the use of the Commander icon outside of PvP is—in its current state—ostensibly useless, as most players contend in PvE solo or in parties of 2-5.

So.. what are you suggesting?
Instead of the Commander books being purchased in cities for 100 gold, they should be available inside WvW and be bought with an amount of Badges of Honor, currency given to players who defeat other players. This allows inspired individuals who wish to lead to earn it, rather than simply grind PvE or ask their guild for gold. This number could be anywhere from 500 (equal to the Gift of Battle for legendary weapons) to 1000, giving players the chance to become experienced with WvW combat and tactics before they begin leading groups of players, and no chance for them to grind or ask for badges, as they are account bound and human players aren’t exactly farm-able.

What do we do with the current Commanders?
Refund. Give every single Commander book back to those who have bought it for their full 100 gold. But, you might say, what happens when there are no commanders because nobody has had the chance to raise x number of badges? Well, an easy fix for this would be a heads-up announcement. Let players know this change is on its way so those who are inclined to become Commanders can begin earning the badges ahead of time.

What about people who want to be led in PvE?
Another separate Commander system could be created, with a book purchasable for 100 gold, but would only be viable in PvE. Players who would like to run with a leader can join their squad. These Commander icons, unlike those in WvW, would only be visible on the map if you are currently in their squad.

Remind me, why do we need this?
It keeps players who don’t know much about WvW from leading. It’s awfully vexatious having a Commander who doesn’t know what they’re doing simply because they played the economy and not the game.

Edits and Clarifications: Based upon suggestions by comments.

  • Jumping puzzles would no longer reward players with BoH. This prevents players from grinding them daily for the badges instead of actual WvWing.
  • There would be a prerequisite achievement for buying the book. A couple comments have mentioned that 1000 BoH is quite an easy feat (technically 1000 badges = 10 gold), and having a required achievement or achievements, such as x towers/holds captured, x players in WvW killed, etc. would make it more difficult and rewarding (experience-wise) to players who want to become Commanders.
