Opening 1000 regular Dragon Coffers [Merged]
From 250 non-gemstore coffers:
Oh man, this…
I opened 2500 non-gemstore coffers, like 10 times what you did, got about 12 holo knights, and crap, not 1 ticket. I don’t mind RNG, but when i open 10 times more coffers and don’t get 1 of what you get 3, that’s not RNG, that’s just bullkitten.
Yeah.. I farmed for a couple hours yesterday, hundreds chests opened, and only 2 risen knights haha.. perhaps returning to play was a mistake after all. Waste of time.
Greed > ALL when it comes to MMO companies, no matter how lofty their aims may be before release. ANet could have used additive chance, add 0.05% drop chance per each chest you open up to say 50%, then reset when a ticket is gained. But nope. They are not alone in it, all MMO companies are like it.
2500 opened, 12 risen knights (goodbye minipet market) and the rest just crap, no tickets
that’s not RNG, that’s just bullkitten.
RNG is bullkitten, it’s not a fair system and I don’t know how this could be seen as a good system.
The probability is below .05%, which is an order of magnitude lower than .4%.

RNG can be a good and exciting system, if and only if the times you don’t get something dramaticly increased your chances in getting an item, where eventually there is a cap (like after 2000 chests even the worst luck person in the world can get it)
ATM skins are being LUCK/gated, if you are unlucky, you can’t get em at all, and that’s the bad thing.
Just reiterating that I have no sympathy for the idiots that are dropping all of their money and getting nothing out of it.
Out of 25 boxes and however many chest from completing both dragon ball achievement and the hologram achievement I am up 7 tickets. 5 from a stack of 25 and 2 from the standard dragon coffer.
Human Warrior / Asura Guardian ( SPvP / TPvP r40 ) / Charr Guardian
Maguuma
Don’t waste a dime on these, they’re a scam. Lesson learned, I certainly won’t ever buy another “random” item from the gem store ever again.
Yes you will. Anet has been selling the same RNG stuff in their gem store since the Halloween event last October right after the game released, if you haven’t learned by now then you never will.
Same thing here. 25 Rich Coffers, 0 tickets. I am mostly upset b/c at one point they made it seem like it was a guarantee, then it was a “higher chance”, and now it seems like you have the same chance to get them from regular coffers as you do from rich ones (especially given the volume at which you can obtain each).
All this did was make it so that I never want to spend another cent on this game unless something is done to remedy this. Sorry if that is harsh, and I realize I did this to myself by “gambling”, but I only gambled based on a lie :/
Why not wait until near the end of the event to buy any coffers since the normal ones drop so much? Out of the first 22 that dropped for me, I got – 1 jade ticket, 1 warm potion, 1 risen knight mini, 4 fireworks, and some candy. Though looking at everyone else’s experience, I now know I got super lucky.
Out of 25 boxes and however many chest from completing both dragon ball achievement and the hologram achievement I am up 7 tickets. 5 from a stack of 25 and 2 from the standard dragon coffer.
how i hate you, ~hug of rage for you~ (it’s quite soft)
out of about 85 rich coffers no tickets, no wing drop, fireworks, a ton of candy, and two minis.
out of 35 common coffers just various candy
~ i also bought the wings for 36g,, there’s no way i’m farming/buying 100k in candy
then for one last attempt ~ i farmed 258 common coffers and i got two minis, a bunch of various candy, fireworks, and finally my ticket. i got my long bow – i’m done…

So their game design has been reduced to players having to actively protest their heavy casino gambling design before the company tries to implement fair and reasonable reward systems? Shouldn’t the best interests of the company be the best interests of the players, not two things competing with each other?
Unfortunately the best interests of the company is simply to make as much money as possible — especially a public company like NCSoft. Now they can go about making money in many different ways, some of those ways will align closely with the best interests of the players and some will not. They have chosen one method of making money that does not align with the best interests of the players.
Exactly and I still am convinced they would make more money just selling the skins outright than resorting to the gamble boxes. Add in the good will generated, rather than lost and it seems a no brainer. Unfortunately, the presence of a brain doesn’t seem to be a prerequisite for…
I will spend ZERO on the premium dragon boxes. If the odds for a ticket were, say, 1 in 20, maybe I would find that acceptable. 100 to 1? No way in Hades. If the skins were sold for 800 to 1200 gems each, (800 for 1H and 1200 for 2H), I’d probably buy at least five to equip main and a few alts. Many people would probably buy at least one.
I’m not worried about “exclusivity”, because there are a lot of skins in the game, which has already created variety and if they offered new skins every other month for every weapon in the game, pretty soon even if everyone equipped premium skins, there would still be plenty of variety.
It almost seems like someone is just throwing away massive amounts of potential revenue just because they can’t admit that they were wrong to go lotto box for skins in the first place.
113 normal box
1 ticket
3 risen knight
558 normal coffers
6tickets
2 risen knight
113, 3 knights, 1 ticket
got the ticket on about 40~ though
160 normal coffers
0 tickets
1 risen knight
.__.
I got a ticket within my first ten opened much to my surprise, but after a few hundred more haven’t seen another yet. I have found three minis in that time period, assorted foods, many candies and a couple odd tonics “cold tonic, warm tonic” that I on occasion stare at oddly.
I do like my jade great sword skin though.
I have farmed close to 500 coffers in about 5 hours of playing, and I finally got my first ticket.
Yes, the tickets are rare. But if you really want one there is no reason you should not be able to attain one through farming if you are able to play for the duration of the event.
EDIT: This is from about 250 Holograms farmed. I received one pair of Wings from the mobs, as well as 2 Mini Knights from the coffers. The drop rate seems to be about 50% for the Coffers, and a single mob can drop multiple Coffers.

Licharr (Guard), Lich Eir (Ranger), Alt Fh (Thief). Lii Cherr (Mesm), S Wf (Necr)
I bought 25 rich coffers and got just candy and some food that I could already make in game, half of which I can’t even use and is worthless. I got the same amount of Zaitaffy by farming mobs for an hour…
Just sell the crap on the TP already. I don’t even know why I log in anymore.

There are many places in GW2 where this joke would fit in, but it’s not here.
This is purely cosmetic, and not that much of a grind anyway.

You would be wrong. I don’t think you realize how much certain people will throw at these things. The amount of people that they lose by not selling directly is insignificant compared to the amount of cash generated by crazies that will just keep buying. And that’s assuming those in the first group don’t actually cave in the end.
It’s why the “Stop buying it guys! That’ll make them go away!” mentality won’t actually work; some people will NEVER listen to that. And if the mass actually does stop buying them, that just makes the items even more rare/desirable, so it’d only make SENSE to throw more money at them to get such a unique skin, right!?
Basically, the only thing that may work at this point is bad PR, annoyance, and a massive drop in the playerbase. And since it’s a B2P game, I don’t think the latter even will do too much unless it comes with a massive decrease in new box sales…
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
hard to argue with this, Anet are really treating their customters like crap.
Not only is content buggy and exploitable, and the support it crap, but they level of grind and RNG is ridiculous

That was never said.
Also, is anyone doing the math on this (binomial calculator)? I’m putting in guesses for the % drop, and looking at the data, nothing makes any sense. Apparently on the wiki someone tried over 4000 coffers and got nothing. Even if the chance is 0.0004 (using decimal, multiply by 100 to get percent) it’s statistically improbably (basically 0% chance). And if that’s true, using that same number for people who got a ticket in the first 100 chests, that chance is also statistically improbable.
I’m using a binomial distribution, but when the amount of trials is over 1000 you might as well use normal.
150 normal coffers: 0 weapon tickets, 1 risen knight mini
28 Rich coffers: 1 weapon ticket, 4 risen knight minis
Ouch. Still, I’m very happy that I finally got a ticket. My guildie and farming buddy got the holographic wings backpiece, three minis and a weapon ticket after roughly 400 normal coffers, though….
it’s just anet resorting to nickle diming their customers which will eventually lead their reputation into the ground all because the parent company wants $$$
Honestly at this rate, I wish they would just put them in the store so people would stop complaining and enjoy the event. But I have a question for you, if the skins were sold in the store for $100 (and the boxes kept the same price) which would you do? Most people would most likely still just complain saying that the skins were too expensive to buy.
Nothing forces you to buy these skins, nothing makes you a better player/character by having these skins. Also as someone pointed out earlier, how do you know the next event won’t have a skin that you want even more. Hell I hardly see any gs chainsaw skins anymore, I don’t think I see any ones from Christmas either. This is just the flavor of the month,
Everything that is stat based in this game can be acquired easily (maybe with a little grind).
Than again, I guess I should thank most of you, considering I don’t spend real money in the gem store, so at least new things will be developed.
Why are they called rich coffer if they do not have a high chance for tickets? is it because they make ncsoft rich?
This is a month long event and you are all crying about not instantly getting the rewards on the first day. These coffers are crazy common and there will be thousands upon thousands on the TP for super cheap in a few days.
For all the complaints about RNG and ANet, you people need to look at yourselves and your instant gratification fixation. Sometimes you dont get everything you want right away, and when they DO give you it all up front people cry that there is no reason to play or no challenge, etc. I hate to say it but you all do this to yourselves.
You guys seem to forget that this event is incredibly long. Not everybody who wants a skin will get it on THE FIRST DAY OF THE EVENT.
Stop guessing on the percentage. News flash: You’re all wrong. Either let Anet tell you or wait…. again…. TILL THE END OF THE EVENT to collect all the data.
i got a ticket on my like 25th dragon coffer during an event near the shatterer spawn. At the time I had 109% mf, that event all the enemies seemed to be dropping the coffers. Snagged like 9 or 10 during that one event, then opened them all right then, boom ticket…rng is rng lol. Does anyone know if mf affects the contents of the coffers?

The coffers drop pretty regularly, I suspect they will fall down to 1s a pop by the end of the event as more people get what they want or give up. Since we have a whole month you can probably open 5000 of these in that time.
The use of RNG can work well within a loot system. Compare Diablo or the more recent arpg, TL2, where the experience, overall, is positive. When I consider RNG in GW2, I just think that Anet has a gambling problem and we are the co-dependents suffering from it.
I got a ticket on my fourth gem store coffer when I bought a pack of 5. I’m happy. It’s the same thing every time, people complaining about RNG. It’s supposed to be rare, not everyone will have one. I remember when MMO’s were far more frustrating then this to obtain pretty much anything you wanted, and nobody complained. All people want today is instant gratification. It’s like buying 100 lottery tickets, and calling the lottery office to complain you didn’t win when you should have due to the amount of tickets you bought.
So you could get 1,000 dragon coffers likely in a couple of days for nothing, given the absurd drop rate of them off of any mob in the game, the event lasts 2 weeks, and you’re cursing Anet for ripping you off.
Am I missing something here?
I love the dragon coffers, I sell them and make a good profit on the impatient people.
75 Rich Dragon Coffers. Not a single ticket. Never again. I feel cheated after they went on about a “much higher chance” to get the tickets with these…
What funny for me is I got 2 tickets from the first 50 coffers that I got 2 hours after the patch. After that not even a single ticket from another 300 coffers that I got later on.
Keep in mind that this is only the first day so you still have a month to get more coffer and more chance on getting the skin. I usually able to get around ~60 coffers in an hour of farming in any mob dense area since every mob has a chance to drop it.
1) For those that got their lucky tickets, that’s great. The attitude of “I got mine, working as intended” is not a great attitude to encourage in a player base.
2)Even should the price fall to <1’s a pop, how is clicking an inventory item 1000+ times good game design?
3) Prestige from chance is not fun. Giving players alternate methods to rng of acquiring content does not diminish the luck value of another path.
4) One player playing the rng game 1000+ times to no avail while another player gets the desired reward on their first go isn’t fun.
5) Yes it’s been out less a day, what an unpleasant experience it has been for many of your player base.
As a player who bought GW1 because they were excited about GW2, played the beta, got friends to buy it, bought a copy for a relative and has spent money in the gem shop on items I wanted (not a chance at an item I want), I’d love to continue supporting a game who’s art I find to be the best out there currently.
I hope ANET meaningfully addresses the rng frustration. If not I’m sure they’ll have plenty of players who like a company to let them buy non-power items they want and not play slots if they choose not to.
Lots of options on the horizon.

You are really funny. I think your opinion would be quite different if your gems had turned just into candy and not a single ticket.
So is it better to sell the dragon coffer chests or use them…? Anyone having luck with them?
Sell. With the amount they’re going for, you’ll have enough gold to buy one outright. The price of the coffer will drop by this weekend but the cost of the wings is dropping as well.

But those people didn’t spend real money on some things, they just invested their time i n playing the game… this is different, some guys opened rich coffers worth of 50 euro and got nothing, do you understand it?

I love this game, but I also take it for what it is.
The slot machine principle drives these boxes — in Psychology, there is a technical term for what is happening here. It’s called Intermittent Reinforcement, and it’s used to mould behaviour. MMOs use it plenty to keep players coming back — in this instance, it’s being used to generate sales.
I rarely purchase any boxes with gems because the mechanics seem pretty obvious to me, but I support the game in other ways with gems. A wise individual should only be burned once with a large purchase of gems just to spend on boxes. Doing that more than once and expecting a different result is completely daft.
Ive gotten 10 pets so far… >_<. I wonder if the pets and tickets have the same drop chance?
Is the difference between the two for dropping weapon tickets significant? Just want to know before I buy a ton with gold. Like if rich is 1% and regular is .5%, it might be better to just buy regular in bulk non?
Out of everyone I know personally that bought coffers they got 0 tickets. Out of the ~112 regular coffers I opened last night I got 2 tickets and 4 mini pets. Anecdotal? Yes, but it’s just info to go on.
Just so people know, you have consumer options.
One is file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Two is ask your credit card company for a charge back and explain to them. In this option I don’t know if Anet will go crazy and ban your account (game developers are thin on support staff and prone to take the fast option there) but you should at least get back the money you spent in the store.
Hopefully you don’t have to do those but it is getting to the point where they are really offensively scamming free money from the GW2 audience. RNG chests in the store need AT LEAST a collectible you can trade in for the ticket after a certain amount of tries.
(edited by TurtleofPower.5641)
Regular boxes will be cheap too at the end of the event. So before buying anything from the gem shop I would just play normally and wait if you get a drop. Decide at the end of the month if you really want one and buy coffers from tp/gem store.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
Some people claim to have opened 75 rich coffers and got two tickets, other say that opened about 200 and no ticket, so really it’s all speculation at this point, I know of 3 people in guild that bought 25, 1 got a ticket, the other two didn’t.
As for the regular ones, there’s some drop rate research here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragon_Coffer/drop_rate
According to it the weapon skin ticket drop rate from them is about 0.02%
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
