Opening 1000 regular Dragon Coffers [Merged]
310 Zhaitaffy
4 to 8 of other various types of Candy
15 FireworksIt is time we stop this. I thought maybe south sun would have been a turning point. I will be on the phone with NCSoft tomorrow after work.
Not to be rude, but are you being truthful about opening 1000 boxes?
I opened 550 yesterday and got close to 1000 candy, 75 Fireworks, a Jade Weapon Ticket, and 6 Mini Risen Knights.
There’s no way you opened 1000 of them and only got 15 Fireworks and 310 Zhaitaffy.
They merged two threads, the OP actually opened some rich ones, can’t remember how mnay
Your example falls kinda flat though. I can see the point you’re trying to make, but that would be like telling players who want to get a Jade Greatsword that they should just get a Priory Greatsword instead. “Hey, they’re both swords, they’re both green, and they both have crystals! They’re practically the same!”
Obviously, they’re not. They have vastly different aesthetics which may or may not suit what a player is trying to go for on their character.
We are agreed on the distasteful RNG approach for the weapon tickets, at least.
I can see how you think my post falls flat, however I was speaking specifically about the Dragon Bash. Wings have multiple ways to get them. Weapons skins do not. This I think is the biggest issue.
Make the tickets drop like the wings. Make the tickets purchase-able via candy. Make the tickets purchase-able via the gemstore directly.
Problem solved (sorta)

I bought 1200 gem card for 15.00. Spent the gems on Rich Coffers, got squat. Took 13 gold from my bank and bought a stack of Dragon Coffers got 4 minis, and 1 weapon ticket. Just my personal experience and recommendation is to stay away from the rich coffers. A few guildmates have bought well over 1,000 Dragon Coffers and gotten nothing though so as per usual, RNG is RNG.
i opened a 1000 chests and got no weapon tickets, im truly disappointed
Gambling is a real addiction.
No I’m serious. I really think many of the people making and posting repeatedly in these types of threads are gambling addicts.
They really can’t help themselves from spending money on beating the odds, despite all the evidence that suggests they will not, simple because there is a “chance”.

90% of my guild has a jade weapon and did not spend a penny, getting sick of seeing the weapons to be honest.

i was talking about regular chests, but yeah the ones i got with the gems i had on me contained crap as well…
this is a good point i should pay more attention, sorry dude
Main reason ppl are angry is beacouse rate drop is so small as hell even on gem Coffers.
Other thing is for wings we need 100.000 Zhaitaffys imo it too much this game shouldnt be about griding but it change to it. I understand 10.000 but man 100.000 how someone who play 2h/day can do this? Its impossible for them.
Gw2 is all about skins (stats are the same) then let ppl to get skins without that much griding.
Some ppl say its ppl fault that they buy games and change them for Coffers. But remember they are maybe ppl who dont want to grid as hell and still want to have skins. Drop rate should be higher.
Or at least they should give 1 freaking weapon skin with some achievement…
what is really unfair is ppl who farm 20 hours get nothing, other ppl just log in for an hour, buy 5(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) regular chests and get a skin…
I got a ticket on my fourth gem store coffer when I bought a pack of 5. I’m happy. It’s the same thing every time, people complaining about RNG. It’s supposed to be rare, not everyone will have one. I remember when MMO’s were far more frustrating then this to obtain pretty much anything you wanted, and nobody complained. All people want today is instant gratification. It’s like buying 100 lottery tickets, and calling the lottery office to complain you didn’t win when you should have due to the amount of tickets you bought.
You are really funny. I think your opinion would be quite different if your gems had turned just into candy and not a single ticket.
Yeah, and do you know how many times I HAVEN’T gotten a weapon ticket? The last time I got any of the special weapons was Halloween, and wasn’t due to lack of trying. I just didn’t feel the need to come here and kitten every time something didn’t go my way. I wanted a Southsun weapon but didn’t get one-oh well, life goes on. I’ll just focus on something else. So no, my opinion wouldn’t be different, because I’d just move on or farm the regular coffers for a chance, since those drop quite often.
Well, I can understand people’s frustrations but my girlfriend collected like 86 coffers and she opened a total of 6 – sold the rest. On opening the fourth chest she received a ticket. I assume this is ridiculous luck?
God, these jade weapons are up there with legendaries now xD
40 rich coffers and I got a ticket. 500+ regular coffers and only 1 mini pet. Its all about luck.
Even if the odds were, say 10% on the chests, opening 10 of them would still give you a 38.74% chance to get 1 ticket (a little higher if you include getting more than one ticket).
It doesn’t work like that. Based on your percentage you likely did the chance of failure to the power of number of attempts (0.9^10). This is actually the probability of all losses in 10 attempts; not chance of a single success.
The probablilty on average of winning in 10 attempts is actually 65.13% (1-0.3487). Again, this is on average and the chance of a win in each single attempt is still 10%.
Actually it does work like that. Your suggestion is that I did (0.9^10)*100 = 34.86%. That Isn’t 38.74%. If you read I said get exactly 1 ticket, not chance of at least one ticket. I just did: (1-x)^(1)*(x)^(n-1)*n.
x=chance of failure, n= number of events,
You are calculating the chance to get at least 1 ticket (m= number of successes):
Sum(m=1 to n) [(1-x)^(m)*(x)^(n-m)*(n!/(m!(n-m!))] which is the same as (1-x^n)
To be fair "a little higher" was a bit inaccurate (from 38.74% to 65.13%), but in general in my formula I was looking at the chance of success to be 1% or lower. There, the chance of more than 1 success is close enough to zero that I didn’t care about adding it in to my exactly 1 success on excel (at least for "small" values of trails, ~500). I was just trying to make a point for people complaining about opening 25 gem bought coffers and not getting anything. Even if they were 10% (much higher than the actual rate is) there’s a sizable chance that you still won’t get anything.
So I just bought 20 rich coffers and got one ticket. I wasn’t expecting guaranteed every time, but I was expecting maybe like 1 in 5, but nope. Somebody on my server claims they bought 50 rich coffers and didn’t get any tickets.
ANet promised a good chance of getting the tickets, this doesn’t seem like a good chance to me.
And why the hell isn’t any ANet staff members saying anything on this thread? They are obviously reading it, why can’t we have a little support? Seriously, this is probably the largest thread about the Dragon Bash, it’s all people raging about how screwed up the RNG is. Can’t we get a word from anybody in staff if they are going to do something about this?

Halloween skins were tradeable. You can buy a halloween skin even if you didn’t get a drop. Even now.
The exception have been fused/sclerite.
Wintersday were up in the gemstore and the tradeable ones are still on AH.
And most importantly, WTF happened to their token system from dungeons and beta? They trumpeted up their use of token systems and everyone getting rewards for their playtime, and then shortly before release the RNG makeover happens and everything in this game seems like it was adopted by a casino owner.

Yeah I opened 75 of the rich coffers nad received no ticekts. I opened close to a 1000 regular coffers and so far received 2 tickets. Go figure
Well, I can understand people’s frustrations but my girlfriend collected like 86 coffers and she opened a total of 6 – sold the rest. On opening the fourth chest she received a ticket. I assume this is ridiculous luck?
Significant others, man!
My wife got one after 16 regular coffers xD
so I bought 100 normal coffers for 3g and got one ticket on nr.30. This would be my (around) 400th coffer (farmed 300 yesterday – no ticket)
so my suggestion: farm gold and buy coffers via. tradingpost. Much less stress than farming those in the open world imho.
Guildie bought about 35-40 rich coffers last night after I warned him not to, he received no ticket and was pretty bummed out.
“Rich Dragon Coffer
Crack open the new Rich Dragon Coffer, a deluxe version of the Dragon Coffer chest which offers a greater chance to receive rare items like holographic minis and the Dragon’s Jade weapon skins!”
Well, I guess a 0.10% chance is technically “greater” than a 0.05% chance, right? :P
I love how ArenaNet is just ignoring this thread and not posting in it. Oh, but they’ll merge it. lol

This, 100x this.
Its like after all the other gem store boxes have been crap chances people still buy them and then come to the forums to complain about RNG. YOU PURCHASED THEM KNOWING YOU WERE GAMBLING!
Not to mention that this event rewards the regular boxes insanely fast and its super easy to get a ticket if you want one. People need to take a step back from their instant gratification addictions and realize that the event lasts a whole month and there will literally be hundreds of thousands of boxes farmed up. They will be super cheap the last couple days of the event AND you can easily farm thousands yourself with just regular play.
Many MMO players need to either grow up or disconnect their credit cards from the game.
I am looking at something else but I wanted to know how much people have invested into getting the jade weapon skins and how many tickets they got.
Personally I spent roughly 30g on Rich Coffers in the Gem Store which gave me around 15 rich coffers. Upon opening them I received a few edibles and a ton of taffy, but no tickets.

Finally got the ticket after opening approximately 2000+ coffers, 10 rich coffers. As usual my confidence in Anet is low as hell, and I don’t think I’ll ever visit the gem store, ever, unless they are going to fix this rng problem.
PS: 36 potions + 35 minis vs 1 ticket.
Its super easy to get tickets?? Im sorry but you cannot be more wrong. Farmed 600 of them myself and purchased 400 off of the Tp and got NO TICKET! That i wouldnt call super easy. I have other words for it…
those are mainly regular coffers, im looking at the Rich Coffers.

A would call myself a very dedicated player. I play every day, have close to 2000 play hours in the last 5 months, but somehow today after all this failure and disappointment i dont feel like logging in… they need to realize this “lets not encourage the ppl to have fun in game and therefore play more” attitude will cost them money in the long run. Ppl not having fun will play less and spend less in gem store…

But if you stop supporting the game the white-knights jump on you and tell you to shut up and enjoy the game that you’re not supporting. You can’t have it both ways.
That thread was merged from separate threads about each of the different coffer types, if you start another thread, the mods will likely delete it or merge it into that one, so best to just post in that one if you’d like an answer. There are many posts in that thread already about rich coffers results, you just have to slog through all 10 pages to find them unfortunately.

To sum up, Isotope, the Rich Coffers don’t seem to be the way to go. Getting lucky or unlucky aside, it seems that the sheer number of regular Coffers you can open for the price of Rich Coffers more than makes up for the lower drop rate. A few people have opened a couple thousand regulars and got 1 ticket or no ticket. Likewise, a few have gotten tickets after opening less than 50. There are extremes at both ends for the Rich Coffers also, but it seems to me that your chances are better if you’re willing to spend around 50g on tons of regular Coffers than if you’d spent the same on Rich.
My own anecdotal experience is that I opened about 260 regular Coffers to get my first ticket. That was lucky. Since I am hoping to get at least two tickets total, I’d anticipate opening at least 500-1000 more for my second.

OKAY. I have been averaging about 50 coffers an hour just from simply running around on one of my lvl 80’s doing map completion. Since this event will last a month and it is only day THREE and it is more than possible to accumulate thousands of them, how can you people possibly think you would be getting tickets as frequently as you seem to think you are entitled to get them? If the drop rate was the way you wanted it to be then every player would have multiple tickets by the time this event is over. Therefore, the skins would not be rare OR special AT ALL. They were even nice enough to let us buy the wings once we’ve earned enough candy. WHY would you be buying ANY coffers on the TP to begin with? You get them from like 30% of your kills. It is so incredibly easy. I think it is actually extremely fun the go out and work on map completion and events for an hour (ya know, actually playing and enjoying the game) and then i get these extra coffers to open and have the chance of getting a ticket for a super cool skin. I haven’t gotten any tickets yet and i am extremely excited to keep playing and earning more coffers to hopefully get one. You should all relax and just play the game and enjoy the event and keep earning as many coffers as you can. My point is that this is fun if you can drop your sense of entitlement and stop acting like 5 year olds.
Thank you A-NET. Please don’t listen to these complaints. This event is awesome. The coffers are awesome. And the rare drop rate for the tickets is awesome. I love the suspense!
After 6058 i got my first Ticket 6508 got my next Ticket opend 40 Rich Coffers got 2 Tickets

It is refreshing to know that someone else plays how they want to, has fun doing so, and is happy to have a little bit extra on the side.
and now wait for the guy that got a ticket on his first box and wants to brag lol
Welp, the Southsun event… I bought 2 of those southsun crates because i really wanna a mini pet…
I was upset because instead of a mini pet (which i bought in the TP for 2g a few days later) in the second crate… i got this ticket thing to trade in for a weapon skin…
HOWEVER, if it makes anyone feel better… in the Dragon Bash, i think i opened about 450 or so coffers for a Dragon Jade weapon ticket…
But those people didn’t spend real money on some things, they just invested their time i n playing the game… this is different, some guys opened rich coffers worth of 50 euro and got nothing, do you understand it?
How is it different :S Time IS money. The time spent on farming could be used to work to get 50 euro, or less or more, doesn’t matter what you spend, time or money.
OK hold up. I understand the frustration. I just bought 25 USD worth of gems for those darn coffers, and I got nothing in return. It sucks. But if you walk into a casino and lose everything, you can’t go to the owner and complain that he’s ripping you off. This is gambling, people. If you don’t like it, don’t gamble. I learned my lesson today and I won’t be buying any more.
The REAL problem here is the coffers that you can get as drops. As mentioned above, it isn’t really fair that I can walk in and get wings on my first coffer while someone who’s been farming for 48 hours straight still has nothing. We need to reward skill and dedication. Leave the luck and chance to the people who are willing to gamble with their money.
::edit:: I’d like to make it clear that I will gladly spend money on things that don’t involve gambling. Town clothes, toys, unlimited harvesting tools (yes, I know the statistics, but to me it’s worth it to never visit a vendor again.), skins, etc. I like this game, and I feel like they definitely deserve my money when I can afford to give it to them. I gambled, I lost, and it’s my fault for using the gambler’s fallacy to drive my way of thinking.
Next time, think to yourself, “How happy will I be if I win? Will it be worth it compared to how unhappy I’ll be if I lose?”

Yes!! why punish the ones farming for their tickets and reward the lazy ones?
I don’t like spending my money on rng chests, so I bought some TF2 hats. And because the grind for those skins frustrates me, I play something else until this event is over.
So, I think I just joined the club, at 1153 coffers and only about 12 minis and enough taffy to put Wonka to shame.
Still, if this lasts a month I pray I get blessed with one ticket…JUST ONE, I want the Greatsword darn it!

thousands of coffers opened, no ticket.
Sorry Anet I’d had enough of this nickle and dime BS.
isnt anyone from anet going to say anything about this thread?really?this is how they want to continue their game?this is the plan?make y grid untill the next patch?onyl because y want a skin?nice plan…what can i say…i feel ungry,i expected more….really..
I would just like there to be a token that you get after opening 1000 or 2000 chests that you can exchange for the weapons ticket. A light at the end of the tunnel for people with extremely bad luck. -.-

The question is really why ArenaNet does that. Maybe they need the money they earn with the auction house to keep the game and the development running (yes of course). And because so little comes in, they are forced to rely on such systems?
So if I knew that ArenaNet needs the money urgently, then I would spend a few euros a month for it and buy something in the AH. But this development of the game without transparency why this is done so I can not be bothered.
I understood the complaints about fused weapons and southsun weapons… but i’m really not understanding the complaints here.
The coffers are cheaper then dirt, can be farmed by the hundreds in an hour and will be here for a full month. Anyone who wants to get a ticket this month easily can. There is really no excuse not to get one. 1000 coffers or 100,000 coffers. Over a month both are easily obtainable by even the most casual players. As more people get their tickets they will start selling the coffers leading to lower prices, leading to more people getting tickets, leading to lower prices… so on and so forth. If anything this new method makes the skins too common.
opened ~500 normal coffers and got 1 ticket
I got a ticket at the same time as I killed my 254th holo-critter. I haven’t been aggressively farming other critters for boxes, but obviously I’ve gotten some that way.
I have no idea what I’m going to do with it. There are a couple of skins that are nice, but I assumed I’d never get one and went on about my business.
Might get the focus. I thought that one was clever.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
