Interesting that as time goes by, there’s fewer and fewer “omg Liadri is impossible” posts. =D
It’s really not THAT bad. Everyone can do it.
Tell lag/skill lag its not THAT bad.
Liadri just shows poor boss mechanics and not much thought to be put into a fight. Ditto.
After a few more ties, I’m done with it for good. Nice minipet but not worth this frustration
I stopped counting my attempts to beat Liadri after they began to run into the triple digits. I’ve easily spent over 12 gold in these attempts. I have not set foot in WvW (my usual home) for three days now… I… can’t… stop… If it were just a title, achievement, or gold at the end of that finish line I could walk away and not have a care… but it’s not.
It’s a mini…
I… MUST… HAVE… IT…
I’m down to my last 1g 21s, and will continue trying until I can monetarily no longer do so.
This is not fun anymore, and wish I could stop.

I consider myself a hardcore gamer. I play this game a lot. Im quite happy with the difficulty level. My big issue is with the time constraints. I got up to Liadri and tried once. Figured it was going to take me a fair while to fully work out the mechanics. I just don’t have the time with other commitments like PvP and WvW and other guild stuff. If it wasn’t such a short temporary thing I would have no issue with the difficulty.
I know I posted this before, and I know I have stated my reasoning on why this event troubles me. The boss is hard, the way it should be. The problem I have Isn’t just the bugs, the camera, etc.. Its also for a little known fact I keep to myself, but what the heck, contacting support has done nothing except a very nicely worded letter containing basically, get someone to do it for you. I’m colorblind, and I cannot see the red circles. Red turns a almost gray-ish brown color to me, mix that with the grating on the floor, I might as well be completely blind. My BF has tried helping with telling when to dodge, which way to run.. all of which becomes very tiresome and frustrating. I suppose, if one shot mechanics were not in play, as I don’t think they ever should be imo, then maybe I would have a chance. I am glad though that many do enjoy it. I wish I could.

Hah, my wife tried doing the same thing for me, telling me which way to go.
Ultimately, just learning the pattern and STARING hardcore at the floor watching for the ripple effect was easier. Literally just tuning out most of the rest of the fight and just glaring at the floor.
I support this, I currently have five level 80 characters and I still can’t beat her with any of them. I shouldn’t have to buy a whole new set of armor just to kill one person because my builds currently don’t work or have to level an entirely new character because I’m not playing the right class. I have even soloed some fractals that don’t require multiple people mechanically and that was easier than this boss

Poor excuse. I killed Liadri with a zerk ranger and a tanky guardian and I’m sure people have with other classes too. Just because you can’t seem to do it doesn’t mean it’s impossible and needs nerfing.
I can’t seem to beat her because I can’t see the circles for two reasons. One: I’m colorblind, which would normally be fine except for… Two: The telegraph animation circles aren’t appearing level with the floor. Rather, they’re appearing underground.

Here it is on a Necro, Warrior, Thief, Guardian, Mesmer, Engineer, And I can’t find a video but Here is a forum thread about a Ranger who did it, and while it wasn’t an achievement get, Here is an Elementalist who does the Liadri fight as well.
Every class can do it. It honestly boils down to you need to practice.
I’ve had the best luck (though no win yet) with my level 6 Asuran ele. She has lasted the longest for me. Maybe Liadri can’t hit things that small, and pain inverter seems to help.
I found Liadri quite enjoyable and I’d really like to see more stuff like her in the future
To ANET: I found Swiftness (or having some kind of mspeed buff) was maybe a little too effective overall. Possibly in future encounters you could have a hard movement debuff that stacks in intensity per hit, with each condi clear removing one “stack”.
(edited by shimmerless.4560)
Liadri doesn’t need a nerf. As long as you eat endurance food or get the endurance buff from the emissary down below, you will be fine. The key to beating her is to time your dodges and to destroy the orbs asap. I beat her with my s/d ele in PVT gear and had no problems DPS’ing her down.
I agree that the closed chamber is pretty annoying, and would be much better suited as an open environment.
All those in favour of having the difficulty reduced on this boss: (post a comment to show your support and your ideas on how to fix the issues)
From the mountain of bugs:
Obstructed cosmic rifts ( a bug which has been there since launch AC burrows I feel they should just be removed (the rift not the burrows))
Camera in circular dome ( smart idea arenanet the camera sucks as it is your just making it worst)
The targeting system ( it sucked kitten launch and it still sucks hard GW1 had a better system)
Previous bosses not despawning ((doesnt happen all the time) wasting tickets and money on repair)Attacks
The AOE (overpowered I think the pattern should remain the same as phase 1 or either reduce the damage)
- The clones* ( same issue reduce damage)
Clearly designed for hardcore gamers. I wouldn’t mind the one-shot downs so much if it was a group event like in a dungeon but not in a 1vs1 fight, it’s just like quick scoping on CoD, just leaves a bad taste in your mouth
Arenanet need to remember not everyone is a hardcore gamer what happens to the casual games that arenanet are excluding with theses events. Not everyone wants to play a berserk practically all the guides online used a berserker build
I know a lot of people are complaining about this on the forums, and I think with good cause there are many issues that need resolving.
I have a zerker, but i don’t like playing him. I fact, i don’t like playing DPS classes at all. I allways choose a defensive build on my toons, and I had to retrait dps for this. I like being tanky, and I like slow fights, i don’t like having to play as a zerker ;_;
I really don’t like the fact that this excludes any other casual and normal players… and I h8 the fact that only zerkers can do it…and that it favors mesmers and warriors…

please don’t give them ideas…it’s already too hard
Personally I HATE Liadri. Simple and pure hate. I have just quit trying her now because I dont see any value after 100+ tries. I know how the encounter is supposed to work. I know where to move. However either I get lagged out for 1-2 seconds and land in the middle of a shade or I cannot see the red circles and just run into them.
Its too bad the encounter is designed quit well and it was fun the first 20-30 times figuring it out. But I simply cannot finnish Liadri. I tried it with 4 different characters and a ton of different specs and none helped me get her down.

This is actually true. As long as you’re not doing the “run at the edge of the room” tactic that people were pushing early on for some reason, ANY kind of runspeed is completely overpowered for phase 2.

Perma crippling a player does not make for a more challenging encounter. They could actually come up with better boss mechanics instead on depending on one-shot mechanics.
I originally beat Liadri on my elementalist, who is wearing full magic find gear (I blame ArenaNet). Every attack hit so hard. Necrotic Grasp was like 10% per hit, the leap was around 75% and the whip AoE was 15% per second. I only had around 12k health.
I went back and did the 8 lights achievement on my warrior, who is wearing full pvt soldiers gear. It was the complete opposite. Necrotic Grasp did no noticeable damage, the leap didn’t matter and the whip AoE was like getting scratched. The damage was so low I basically just backed through the shadowfall AoE, moving in a small circle between the safe spots. I constantly had cripple and weakness and never cleansed them. It was actually surprisingly easy doing it with a sword/shield and greatsword warrior. It only took 4 tries, my first try after disabling auto targeting (so I could free leap – I was occasionally miss-targeting the rifts and leaping somewhere bad).
I didn’t use any consumables for either of them.

Well the thing is she didn’t slap on any conditions bar Cripple (and another I can’t remember) so it was fairly trivial to clear. Maybe if there were more cover condis it’d encourage players to break out of regular builds and take more removal. (10 points for Mender’s Purity to completely null the Cripple when it even landed was not earth-shattering)

If the cripple doesn’t make it more challenging, then I’m assuming you’ve beaten her. I’m just puzzled if you’re QQing because she’s too easy or what.
One-shot mechanic makes people be alert at all times while fighting her. Imo, a good mechanic.
Are any DEVS even going to address all the issues with the gauntlet much less idk maybe fix or change some aspects of the arenas we fight in? There has been quite a few valid points brought up against the way this even caters to just a few.
Look I really am all for hard content and yeah I’ve beat this fight… that aside before this event wraps up will you guys be doing any changes to the texture of the floor/looks of it for the arena to show the red circles a bit better for all… Will you guys be looking into helping players out by idk making this fight instanced cause I can hardly break 9 FPS on her fights even still trying for 8 Orbs no matter what time of day I play this zone seems to lag me out and hog all my resources…
Please just give us some kinda update why you keep us in the dark on stealth nerfs idk but some communication goes a long ways… I never farmed any of the arena fights for money but if any changes are made to the battles you should share that info with the player base.
Again I think you guys do a fantastic job and can be really creative but these arena fights are not hard they are just flawed and can be fixed and or adjusted a bit better now and in the future to avoid things like this..
Oh and for all you fanboys crying dont nerf her well oh well good on you for getting more fps or having better eye sight to see red circles then most of the player base…. You want hard content I do too but flawed content needs to not be the reason the content is hard………………..
I had the same FPS as you. Please don’t nerf Liadri. She’s still quite doable.
Please don’t nerf her (I mean, maybe fix the obstruction on the rifts, but that’s it). She’s perfectly fine the way she is.
This game needs things for players that can handle it. So far, this and Lupi solo are the only options. People are going to complain, and those people will always be louder than the people who appreciate these things. It’s a sad reality, but it’s true. We need content like this. I’m not interested in playing another WoW where content gets nerfed into oblivion because some sect of players simply can’t wrap their heads around it.
This is not meant as a direct insult to any players who are having trouble with this fight. It’s a matter of practice and adaptation. Just because some players would rather have the fight nerfed than spend some time practicing or learning to adapt doesn’t mean that the interests of those who are (and greatly enjoy being challenged) should be swept under the rug. Liadri may not be doable for 100% of the player base. That should be okay.
Casual player? That’s okay. 90% of the game is relatively catered to you. Let the last 10% be something that more hardcore players can actually appreciate without having to crank up a difficulty scale to 50+.
Edit: Not wishing to turn down your graphics/save up to upgrade your system even slightly beyond minimum requirements for gameplay is hardly an excuse for why something should be nerfed. I’m sorry if that offends someone, but it’s true.

I hate this arena. Not because i hate challenge, but because i hate RNG. When i die from random things it makes me rage. Every time these orbs pull me to AOE i want to press alt+f4. Randomly spawned clones (behind me) while i can’t see them (thanks to camera) deserve special <3
I tested her 2nd stage with my thief with many evade abilities. It is plain stupid to try to evade all her attacks + orbs + AOE. She can spam skills + cripple + AOEs, i just burn all resources then die.
I come to the conclusion: Everything is based on “kill her while you can”. So heavy armor class + plain burst dmg = win, no need to be fast, no need to be smart, evade etc. Just burst her down. Not fun at all.
Also special thanks for 2-4 minutes timeouts between tries + long runs from waypoint.
I don’t think i will try hard this “challenge”, it is too annoying to me.
Please riot. People interrupt my dunwell farm with their “liandri attempts”. Or at least add some cooldown between liandri attempts. Like one liandri per 12 hours.
Troll thread is obvious troll.
I have a counterproposal.
Limit the amount of tickets you can use per day to like 20.
Better plan: Lets just take the gauntlet, make it one fight against a baby Quaggan that, if beaten, gives you all 11 achieves you need for the meta, the mini, a title, 400 gold, and make it in personal instances that can be farmed as much as you want. We can call it the “I’m a little Quaggan killing farmer” event.
I support and not even gonna try to do this ridiculous achievement at all. At this point i am just gonna save my money and have less frustration in my life and destroy all my tickets ! Like my low characters would ever use them anyways. Just the fact that tickets are soul bound and not account bond if so freaking stupid !!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, here’s one of those non-elite hardcore players saying not to nerf Liadri because I understand The Gauntlet wasn’t intended to be beaten by every GW2 player and is meant to appeal to the player base who love pulling their hair out over a challenge.
Fix the bugs. Maybe fix the color scheme for the colorblind. But don’t “easy mode” her or else everyone who isn’t that type of gamer will never hear the end of it.
Getting a little better. I’m actually not dying instantly in phase 2 anymore. Count now is at 143 attempts though. Still hilarious to me because I beat everyone else pretty much without a hitch, or even a build swap. The fire one got me only once because I didn’t realize leaving the flaming circle would insta-drop me.
It’s not luckbase at all. All it takes is watching the field and not getting nervous. I’ve done it on an eng, an ele, a guard, and I’ve seen it done by just about every class. It’s very easy, you just need to practice, and tweek your build to suit the situation.
It took me 111 tries, but now I can do it without even thinking about it XD

Hello everybody,
I saw a lot of threads about Liadri and I agree with almost all of them that the achievements which are including Her doesn’t make me smile or something like that. It’s not fun, This makes me want to cry… Last night after 50 deaths I throw my keyboard on the ground, seriously, I was REALLY kitten ed of… Not everybody have so OP skill and can kill her (or get Light Up the Darkness achievement) or win with 5 gambits 1 third tier challenge… So now (after about 100 fails) I’m asking You (on behalf of all who’s so kitten ed of like me) to make It easier that it could brought fun…
If they need to do anything, it’s introduce a color-blind assist mode like every other modern MMO.
If it’s not fun then don’t do it. No one is forcing you to.
This content was created for people who enjoy challenging fights. Sometimes you have to accept not everything in this game will necessarily appeal to you.
I thought it was fun
So why they created something like that ONLY for ppl who enyoj challenging fights? Not everybody like It. I just wanna get achievements, that’s all.
I have not beat landri yet came close a few times but still slightly out of reach. I don’t really have a problem with the fight as much as I do with seeing where the AOE is about to hit. I know some people have trouble viewing the circles and such but why not let us decide how its displayed? I would love to see negative AOE as a solid red circle that way i could quickly tell what side of that one shot AOE that falls from the sky I’m on. This would be a great option to add.

Very Good Idea, I’m agreed. It would be awesome if Anet could fix It up ; d

Because a lot of easy content isn’t very enjoyable for people who like challenge. So that content isn’t for them, just like this content isn’t for you.
Honestly, there’s very little hard content like this anyway.
As for achievements- You don’t need them; they’re not necessary at all.
If you are throwing a tantrum like a 4 year old over a video game it is not the content you should be worrying about.
Unless you’re 4. In which case, you were probably just hungry.
It’s not thread for noobs like You. If You think that You’re smart that You’re wrong. Waiting for NORMAL replies.
What do you consider a normal reply to a thread where the OP states hes throwing his keyboard and crying?
Stop asking for a nerf, instead ask for help or advice.
It was a metaphor -.- I asked for advice, watched all videos about It on yt and still can’t… Maybe You could give me a tip or something?
I don’t know what classes you have or what you’ve already heard but
Turning post processing off in graphics disables screen blur
Cosmic Rifts spawn based off when the previous one was destroyed (30-35 seconds)
Shadow Fall is avoidable ("One-one thousand, Two One-thousand, Dodge)
Visages can be destroyed by using invulnerability and having them trigger their self destruct
Strafing in phase one makes it so you can avoid her necrotic grasps.
Everything has a locked identifiable pattern minus the cosmic rifts spawn locations, Shadowfall goes in the same place each time, visages spawn in the same locations, white vortexes spawn in the same locations in the same order.
Sticking with one arena will help you memorize that arena’s patterns
Watching others may help you see the patterns more clearly from a birds eye view
If you want more then that you’re going to have to tell me what class you play. I have a video of beating it with mesmer normally

or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zec0S_io8Ps
of beating it with a necro using the exhasted gambit.

Nice Man, Thank You a lot. I’m playing Necro so I’ll try option from the second link. Really Thank You for info ^^
Liadri was the most fun I have had in this game. If you don’t like it, don’t do it.
It was fun but as a boss that takes multiple retries and a healthy dose of luck to finish it was too punishing. With no simple retry button like similar bosses from other games, you had to pay the WP cost, armour repair, run 1 minute back to the arena and ensure you have enough tickets. That part of the boss is far too annoying even though the boss herself is fun.
I’m not sure why people keep making the claim that “Liadri takes luck”. Maybe getting 8 orbs takes some luck, but beating Liadri is purely a skill fight. Sure, it took me ~20 tries to get her the first time, but I bet now that I know the mechanics I could beat her 2-3 times in a row (no luck involved).
I’m a pretty casual player here. Sitting in a mix of greens and yellow gear (only having done 1 or 2 dungeons).
I sat down last night with 50 tickets in hand ready to try Liadri with my Ranger. I finally beat her with 1 ticket left to spare. 49 tries to get her. Out of that, there were 6 times where I had her health bar down to <1% as there was no red visible in her health bar. And I would die to either:
1. Running out of time.
2. Rift pulling me into the shadow aoe.
After about 5-10 tries, I figured out the pattern for phase 1. And when I say pattern, I’m not just talking about knowing what to do with the clones etc. I’m talking about:
- I know where the shadow aoe will spawn before it spawns.
- I know where the next light field is going to spawn.
- I know which clone is going to be closest to the next light field before it spawns.
- Basically I know where to move so that I can get Phase 1 down using the first 3 light portals.
For Phase 2, it took 2-3 more tries to understand the circle I needed to kite in. Don’t run along the outer edge of the ring. Run a tighter circle a few yards inwards.
The part that took the longest to figure out as a Ranger? Ignore the darn rifts in Phase 2. I was always so freaked about rifts pulling me into shadow aoe at the end that I would always try to kill it. And believe me, they DID still pull me into shadow aoe. Without a pet to melee it and range being obstructed, it took a big chunk out of my dps time for killing her. On try 48-49, I just ignored them and focused on dpsing her. As a ranger with your pet guaranteed to be dead, you have got to focus on pure dps. And bam. Done.
My fists hurt from hitting my table in anger the 6 times I came <1% with failure. The feelings were mixed. It definitely feels doable as is. I don’t think a nerf is necessary here. I enjoyed the challenge.
The only things I could agree with are quality of life changes in the fight. Things like:
1. Remove the post processing blind… Everyone’s already turning off post processing to get around it… It lasts so long that I couldn’t imagine avoiding shadow aoe without it off.
2. Make the red circles more visible.
3. Modify the arena so that the dome is out further, but create a lower fence that prevents the player from crossing the original size of the arena. This would alleviate some of the camera concerns. This is actually a big one since ranged attacks won’t fire if the boss isn’t in view and a close up viewpoint does not help this.
4. Automatic rez after failing the arena…. For the love of god do this. With no one around, running back up everytime is incredibly painful for an already difficult fight.
5. Allow users to mark a target even if solo. Having to group to make it easier to auto target Liadri helped, but it shouldn’t be necessary. This is a shorter way of fixing the targetting issues.
6. Rifts. I have to think that the fact that the range obstructed rifts is not a bug since it hasn’t been patched all this time. I also have noticed that if I fire at it long enough it will eventually hit which leads me to suspect whether or not it actually hits is an RNG check. If it’s intentional, it’d be better if you made it less RNG. Like you have to hit it 3 times to kill it. Making it obstructed and random whether you kill it or not just makes it more frustrating.
That’s what I feel after finally having beaten it. I wouldn’t nerf the difficulty, but I would focus on helping players through those issues by some QoL changes.
Given how hard I found this fight, I’m not likely to try the 8 orb achieve. I don’t think I have a chance, at least not on my Ranger.
Almost every part of the Liadri fight is exactly the same each time you do it. That’s not really much luck.
Even then, the orbs are just reacting to them quickly enough.
then… don’t do it..
It’s a game.. something we do for fun, nothing else.. nobody is paying us to do it, nothing bad will appen if we don’t play, and heck, nobody but you will ever know if you decide to just not kill Liandri right now, or ever. If you’re not having fun, just don’t do it, go do something else.
People were clamoring for harder content, saying that nothing in PvE is challenging enough… well, we have something challenging now, it’s not for everyone but those that enjoy being challenged are enjoying the fight and having fun with it, if you’re not having fun, well, there’s a whole world out there to explore and have fun in.
BTW, that comes from someone that hasn’t beaten Liandri (much less with getting the achievement), but that is having a blast trying, and I will beat her eventually, if not now, maybe when it comes back. But of course, that also comes from an old school gamer, so maybe that affects the way I see things. Nothing seems as difficult when you played battletoads in the NES when it originally came out, managing to beat the turbo tunnel level, and then dying on the next level which meant you had to start the game all over from the beggining (no save games back then), including the turbo tunnel level again, which I did over and over and over and over… and had lots of fun doing it..

Was loads of fun for me ^^ The one single fight i have enjoyed the most so far.
You have a ton of content that is easy and will like more, leave this content for those who like to die once or twice(or more depending on how quickly you learn)
The fight is fun i enjoy the challenge… what i don’t enjoy is :
One shot mechanics in a fight that’s put above the most laggy zone in the game.
Buggy camera which makes it very annoying.
Semi transparent floor that makes the Aoe harder to see.
Bugged Rifts that get the obstruction bug.
Poorly balanced and favors certain professions/builds.
Resource cost+long corpse run to try again.
But yea.. other then all that it’s “fun” i guess.
