Mounts [Merged]
I never did like mounts of WoW. It just made players rush through the map without actually running into obstacles or fights. I don’t think they are a good idea, but a extended swiftness based skill for each class would be nice
I do see were you’re coming from and yes that would be good too. Maybe Arena Net could work around that, find a way to get past the obstacle skipping and maybe un-mount the player if he/she runs into ‘trouble’
While mounts would be cool, I think ANet said they wouldn’t put them in because then players would just blaize past everything, ignoring all the art, scenary and dynamic events.
Jesus Christ. How many mount threads do we get everyday? Please, for the love of god stop. No mounts. It would just not work.
This is my first thread on the forum and obviously if people want to suggest the use of Mounts then they will put them in the suggestion section, weather you dislike them or not. If you have a problem just stop replying to them, I believe they would work if they were made properly. They made the suggestion section for a reason.
I was an avid mount collector in WoW. I had over 120 of them. As much as I liked them, I’m happy to not have them here. There’s a couple reasons:
1) In order to keep mounts “fresh” and fun, you need to add more. You’ll always have collectors clammoring for more and no MMO stops once they’ve started the collectors on a run. This leads to the problem of trying to find new mounts that make sense and new abilities. In WoW, flying mounts were the destruction of the world (aside from LFD). Multi-player mounts were cool, but just allowed the second person to go completely afk while the driver flew from location to location (or randomly dropped you to your death).
2) In WoW, with mounts you wouldn’t interact with others, nobody stopped to help anyone else (not that WoW made it worthwhile to help others anyway) but with the community in GW2 being as good as it is with random helping and rezzing, mounts would likely spell the end of that.
3)The griefers. Anyone who has seen 10 mammoths parked on any item of importance, whether for a holiday or just a mailbox (before mailboxes were everywhere) has experienced this frustration. Sure you can still stack 10 max sized Norns on a quest giver, but that hasn’t attracted the griefers like mounts would.
4)Forum complaints: Right now you get the occasional post about how we should have mounts. If they were implemented, you’d get complaints about how ridiculous certain races look on each mount, how each race should have a specific mount, that there should be certain colors (or not) of each mount, etc. etc. Why open another massive avenue to make nit-picky players complain when they’re finally getting some semblance of order to the forums. At least now many of the posts are somewhat useful.
Those are my problems with it. Like I said, I enjoy that there are no mounts even if I find the gold sink and slow running a little tedious at times.
It appears that Anet has given-in to player pressure and implemented mounts! By that I mean, broomsticks! Quidditch anyone?
I was indifferent to mounts until I got the witch’s costume and now I think they’d be cool. At least I’ll have my broom : )
And you get to ride them in town right , oh no what ever will the nay sayers do…
Well the Witch’s Broom can’t be used for obstruction, which is what a lot of people were worried about, and secondly, they are clearly for the lols. It’s fun riding them from the trading post to the crafting station and vice versa and also to just hoover while waiting for a group. I am not even sure if it gives a speed boost or just feels like it does. It’s just a gimmick, not a proper means of transportation. We are happy with it because the broom is not advertised as a mount. If it were and it cost X gems, there would be even more people complaining about it then they are about the halloween skins dropping from Black Lion Chests.
I like how you contradict yourself by saying “It’s fun riding them….and also to just hoover while waiting for a group.”
SO they are FUN, SO you LIKE just AFK’ing on them ,but isn’t that one of the things that the opposing the mounts was against. Who cares what size the mount is, BLOCKING is not an issue anyway cause you can talk to any NPC by hitting the (F) button.
And this line “We are happy with it because the broom is not advertised as a mount.”
What difference does that make, you are so opposed to having mounts you justify what has all the makings of being a mount, as being ok cause it was not advertised as a mount, as a way to accept it. If it was not a part of town clothing and was a mount that could go anywhere , really what difference does it make. You already said that is was fun, so why try to make it so the idea of having mounts would not be any different.
sigh I also like turning into birds and flying form the crafting station to the trading post. Not to mention crafting as a bird or some other tonic induced transformation. Those are also fun for me. and serve the same function as hover on a broom.
Something called a “mount” and bought as a “mount” raises certain expectations and has certain connotations. The primary purpose of a mount is to travel. the primary purpose of that broom is to pretend to be a witch. Two very different things. You would not, for example, buy a mount that did not give a speed boost and allowed you to “zip around the map” as many of you pro-mount people like to say. There is no need for such mounts in GW 2 as we have waypoints and all classes have speed boasts and you can get speed boast buffs too. There is zero need for a “mount” in the proper “mount” sense.
Mount in WoW = necessary because they don’t have way points and the maps are designed to sink time travelling from one end to another. Mount in GW 2 = not necessary and if they were introduced as “mounts” but still made redundant because you couldn’t get a speed boast, you guys would cry even more!
Yet -another- mounts thread. Mounts cause all kinds of problems:
People stay on them and block NPC’s, Quest givers, trading post areas, bank areas, merchants, etc. Some do it to be jerks, others because they don’t have any concept of anyone else but themselves and are too lazy to dismount out of respect for other players.
Additionally, mounts clutter up the field of vision, especially in cities, towns, etc. This can cause problems for players who use lower end systems not to mention simply being an eye sore.
Mounts are NOT needed in this game. The individual zones are not that big to run through and there are MANY way points scattered across each.
Mounts are NOT an integral part of GW lore.
This topic has been done to death. Scroll down and see the “mounts” merged threads.

Here plain and simple if you want mounts go to World of Warcraft if you like Guild Wars than stop trying to make it WoW.

Agreed. Mounts in WoW were like fleas on a dog….and it made everything horrid. If that’s someone’s thing…that’s the game for them!

Couldn’t agree more.
can a moderator please close this thread. the devs have already said no mounts so why the big huhar. and if you don’t like it, then don’t play simple. but as i’ve said in a previous post about mounts. it’s to do with the LORE!!!!! they were not in guild wars lore. so why invent them just to make some people happy. no thank you. it would ruin the game in my eyes and no doubt many other peoples eyes too. so plese can someone put and end to this mount nonesence. thank you.
I second this plea. PLEASE devs, just make a general post somewhere saying “no” (again) and close all discussion already.

Why do You think it has to be like WOW, I am all for something that has not been done before in WOW, you are the one who is hung up on this thought process that it has to be like WOW.
Evidently you played WOW, since you can easily compare this game to that. You know what, Wow had waypoints too, they were called Portals, your reference holds no weight.
Oh and you can pretend you are on witch on a broom mount also, make a better case.

Because WoW WORKED! It freaking WORKED! Everything about it just fit into freaking place! The farming, PvP, dungeons, mounts, achievements EVERYTHING!
Guild Wars 2 is trying to work. The Events are buggy and easy with a huge zerg, PvP is mismatched horribly, and farming is a pain without Guild Gathering buff. I (and everyone else I hope) understand that this game is very young. But it’s during this time that the game can evolve to become the next best MMO. But it sure as hell can’t do it unless they bring in things that the big boys use.
And the portals are like WP. But were used rarely because mounts were a better way to travel. Allowing the player to farm mats, help out players getting beat on by massive amounts of mobs, or take down enemy players.
Argument is back in. Case still stands strong. Try harder first time MMO scrub.
But it is apparent that you really want mounts and seeing as the last words from the developers was.. NO NO and Hell NO I guess you can stay in WoW if you want your mounts.
Prove that give me the link, show me where a Dev posted that there would never be mounts in GW. I know of one statement that said there would never be any Flying mounts.
Still like so many you think if they have mounts they are gonna copy paste WOW, and like so little I know that Anet can produce something never before seen or done.
They have already done this with Unique ideas like the Junundu.
You are correct WoW Worked it freaking worked
all past tense
now it just fails freaking fails.
I am sorry that PvP is not all about he who has the most time gold and gear wins the round in GW.
but you know what if you believe in this higher god of MMO’s and WoW Freaking worked then go back and play wow…. oh that is right your playing GW2 trying to make it into the new wow different skin.
I love how your only come back to me is a high school level insult first time MMO scrub. Hey nice to meet you, and you must be blinded egotistical wow fan boy troll kitten. slinging insults doesn’t make this an argument. and 12 people or 200 people wanting mounts doesn’t mean the developers will do it when 3 million people say no.
So again I state since the Developers have spoken and said NO if you want mounts go to WoW.

Well, Copy Paste no. But bring in the idea of breaking the mount. Work for that kitten thing like no tomorrow. Then ride off into the sunset on top of a freaking Centaur that curses your name every step of the way.
And what is the Junundu?

Kiddies like you don’t deserve some of my more… Well thought out insults. So I usually throw out the basic crap givin from Xbox Live or such.
Yes PAST tense. PAST I used the PAST tense of work-ed<— Means past.
First off munchkin, you do not speak for the Devs. If they decide to make a giant kitten in the middle of the freaking map. Then they will do it, without informing you. Because you are nothing more then a maggot to them. And they do not care about the ideals on a single crazed individual that thinks he is a prophet.
Second, I might go back to play WoW. And see how GW2 grows. I hope this game last longer then an additional year. But ANet’s ability to fix bugs and such worries me.
Finally, Again I do not want ANet to Copy Pasta from WoW. That will do nothing then destroy what GW2 can become. But that does not mean in any way that ANet can’t evolve from others. Learn what mistakes were made, and how they themselves do not make said mistakes. And Blizzard is probably the number 1 when it comes to making huge mistakes, and running themselves into the ground. And if ANet plays there cards right. Maybe they can become the next Blizzard. Minus the running into the ground face first.

Wow.. GW2 community is sheltered.
Wow.. GW2 community is sheltered.I like WoW because they were able to execute everything to a near perfect. Something GW2 can only better from. Things like Mounts are something that can only better the game. Only rarely can it break it.
The general statement out of Anet is, " There will be no mounts in GW2 in the initial release".

Googled it and found that. Kamick isn’t completely wrong. But he is far from right.

Simply stated that they didn’t want a WoW clone. Which this game is already far from. But never does it state ANet flat out refuse mounts.
NightFire you believe in World of Warcraft so much then go back and play WoW. But do not for one second think that WoW is perfect only Catababies say that. Which means that you never played in Vanilla or TBC or most of WoTLK.
Your statement right there just proved your a hardcore Fanboy of WoW so go back and play wow have fun.
I and many others enjoy GW2 even for it being as you say " faulty and flawed" we enjoy it, if you don’t enjoy the way the game is currently go back and play your wow catababy no one is stopping you from mounting up and riding off into the sunset of perfection.
Gummy do the research on your own, I don’t support Lazy people that want hand outs and I wont support your laziness to not do the research, I found it just fine, then again I just was smart about my search.
Link it, and I will back out of the conversation, prove me wrong, and I will not post on this topic again. However not proving me that I am wrong, will not get me to convert to your way of thinking, no matter what ever name calling you sling at my kitten. Another basic thing, why would I convert when its just a suggestion anyway. It does not hurt you that its out there. Yet you are so into trying to control my vision of having fun. Stop with the name slinging already .

I haven’t name called you any thing, I just simply will not do the leg work for you.
Also to note I am not trying to change your way of thinking I just don’t see a need for mounts, the way point system works fine.
Mounts for farming is a poor excuse as in WoW mounts for farming is needed as Nodes and other gathering professions are shared among all players. In Guild Wars 2 they are exclusive to you so no need to run around and rush to that node cause someone else may take it from you.

I love how you continue to call me a fanboy, and not break down the post. You know that Mounts are something this game can benefit from. And at this point I would not mind make another Mounts thread. Cause this one is dirty as hell.
In an attempt to get it back on track.
The only problems ANet has at the moment is not wanting to become like it’s drunk older brother WoW. Which really isn’t that hard to do.
The point of it all is to make the player work! Give the player something to do while grabbing ore, waiting for queues, or doing events and such. In short. Give the player a NON compatible companion. Like the Minis but these are actually useful. The player choose his mount at the char selection screen. Depending on the race it can be one of 3 animals. Because I’m kitten near tired and don’t wanna bother typing each individual animal out I won’t.
At level 1 – 10. They are nothing more then an accessory. There to please the eye and to play with when bored. It is currently a pup.
As the player levels so does the companion(mount) starting at level 11. Same as the Trait skill. It is during this time the companion grows into it’s child phrase.
Again at level 20 the pet grows into it’s teenage years. The player sees it growing bigger and stronger. Although it still can not fight, and is not mountable.
Finally, at level 30. Same as the Elite Skill. The companion grows to an adult age. And depending on how the player acted around him. The companion can grow into different ways. At this point skins can be attached to the companion to change the looks and the types of Brawl moves it can use. Brawl moves can only be used in towns and only against other players that actually want to brawl. So it’s a choice thing.
To comply with ANets 33% speed rule, the mount grants permanent speed buff. And removes any other speed buffs from stacking on.
There. As anyone with half a brain can see. It’s NOTHING like WoWs trainer method of purchasing skill + mount. Meaning, ANet is keeping away from the WoW clone thing. ON TOP OF! Since it’s something the player can customize at the character creation (Types, color, saddle and the such) it won’t add too much of a workload. But still give players another thing to work on.
Wasn’t so hard.
I haven’t name called you any thing, I just simply will not do the leg work for you.

Sir you have not read most of the stuff I have posted on this thread , you are only coming into the conversation late and joining in the attack. I have actually made several comments about a combat mounts, with only charge type speed buffs.
And yes you did call me “LAZY” when in fact I have read many statements that have not proven that they have in fact outright said no to the no and hell no. I don’t need to do leg work on something I have already read into and have fully acknowledged. I am not the one that has to prove something to you or anyone for that fact, Ditto, to you , but if you can prove it, my statement stands, I will accept my defeat and no longer post in a loosing battle.
That is a reasonable argument although I am not seeing the express reason for mounts.
You don’t need them for Gathering, like in wow where everyone fought over the same node GW2 it is unique to you.
So why other than you want something cosmetic do you want mounts when waypoints work just as well?
Gummy do the research on your own, I don’t support Lazy people that want hand outs and I wont support your laziness to not do the research, I found it just fine, then again I just was smart about my search.
You did call him lazy.
Battle Mount might a bit broken. How would it scale in relation to other mounts? Or how would he be used in PvP?
And http://www.mmorpg.com/mobile/forums.cfm?ismb=1&threadId=352304 apparently ANet had stated Mounts won’t be out on release. Meaning they could very well be working on it.
And how the hell is the WP Travel mat farming thing viable? The money i waste porting everywhere I could just as easily buy the mats myself. Which I don’t wanna do. WP’s are meant to respawn, and show contested areas.
(edited by NightFire.7563)
I never called you lazy Gummy I simple stated that if your not willing to do your own legwork I will not support your laziness not to go look it up for your self. That is nto calling you lazy that is simply stating that a lazy person wont and if you fall into that category then you are only calling your self lazy. Hell someone else has already done half the work for you. ;-)

That is nto calling you lazy that is simply stating that a lazy person wont and if you fall into that category then you are only calling your self lazy. Hell someone else has already done half the work for you. ;-)
Kaimick.5109:
Gummy do the research on your own, I don’t support Lazy people that want hand outs and I wont support your laziness to not do the research, I found it just fine, then again I just was smart about my search.
Grammar lesson. Laziness = Lazy – y + iness. That’s 1st grade bro.
English 101
to imply that is someone is not willing to do something they would be lazy is not the same as saying they are lazy. It simply implies that if they do not do X that they fit into the category of said title. Gummy had the full capability to do the research himself and not fit into that category, ergo not being lazy. It is his choice to either do it him self and not be lazy or not do it and be lazy.
Yes you made a fine attempt at the trolling
I read that also and Which admittedly is more recent that the making of Guild wars FaQ section, which stated that the developers did not feel the need to introduce mounts into the game as it would eventually cause a deterioration in the player base experiencing the content, instead rushing through areas to level in, just to hit max level. As Guild Wars 2 at the present time has not traditional end game content and approaches that in a different way the prospect of mounts are a definite no.
Honestly I really don’t see the point in mounts in PvE, I can see them more for WvWvW but still I am liking how it is now, not sayign it wont change just sayign I don’t mind it.
Battle Mounts I like the Idea of them, I think it is a very cool flavor that can be added to the game, at the same time I also think it can add a lot of additional headaches to the game. Problem that I see is I am thinking the headaches can be more than the benefit of the flavor. Although if Anet comes out with a Battle mount that works I am all up for it
Problem with that is balance issues. How will each mount scale? Will a Warriors mount do more damage then a Mesmer’s? Or will difference race mounts have stronger abilities.
As WvW stands it doesn’t need a mount system in it. Keeping the mounts for PvE only keeps ANet from having to do any more balance work.
And helps those that can’t afford WP travel. At first it may seem cheap but it gets stupid expensive when you use them constantly. And the money you can save on that you can spend on better gear or the very mats you would be trying to farm.
This game does not need mounts at all, please don’t add them. Just fix waypoint cost scaling and let parties move to waypoints together for a split cost among them.

That’ll increase cost. Again. Not solving the problem at hand with the current cost burning a hole in my wallet.
This game needs ground mounts. But not flying mounts. Don’t be afraid and think such a thing will ever be added.
I agree that would be a cool feature the companion system.
Lowbies in higher areas are already scaled that way if you take a 20 into a 30 zone things one shot you.
As far as Mounts in PvE i am still not sold on the idea, I mean there is absolutely no reason other than someone wants to get form here to here faster ( which I use waypoints ) doesn’t constitute as a reason to put the mounts in the game.
One of the reasons why Blizzard originally put mounts in the ( rather decided too ) was because they felt that since people paid to play the game monthly they should be able to get to the max level faster to hopefully experience all the game has to offer. Then if they wanted to explore more they could do so with out much danger. GW2 doesn’t have the Underworld doesn’t have any real end game raiding in it, although Anet has talked about possibly adding in something for 80’s in correlation with WvWvW like they did in GW1 with the underworld. With that said the world is so vast that personally I think a mount with detour from the joy of the exploration that we get now. Yes you and I and many others might not have it cheapen for us but there are more than just you and I. I think that walking around is not really that bad.
Well there is also the amount of time people have to do something.
Myself:
At most I have 3 hours to do something before I have to do my dragon runs. In those 3 hours I need to complete as many exploration and farm as much ingredients and ore as possible. Because of the current WP system I have to jump from WP to WP spending 1 silver per jump. I jump at least 10 times in a single map within at least a 30 minute time period. I also do events and such. That right there is 10 silver. Now I spend about that much repairing, and getting to dragon and back, and buying the last bit of mats I need to get to the next tier. In short I wasted about 1 gold easy just on WP travel. And it rarely got me anywhere close to where I needed/wanted to be.
With mounts I would be more then happy to just ride along the border of the area stopping to farm mats, do events, and rez dead players. Saving hundreds of gold over time. And hours on end.
WvWvW and PvP mounts wouldn’t matter for racial I think they would all do the same flat line. Just like there are racial abilities you can’t use in PvP.
waypoints have never been an issue of cost for me…ever. Only once did I not have the money to waypoint, and that was because I bought Gems with gold and used all my money like a kitten Beyond that I have never once had an issue affording it at any level.
Nothing personal Night but if your having issues with waypoint cost you probably need to start running to the waypoint 100 yards away instead of porting, or you need to some how manage your money better. Not sure what it is or maybe you just have bad luck who knows but myself and many of my guildies have never had any issues or second thoughts of waypoint cost.
I try not to. But when you need to have x amount of x to get to the next tier and you already burned through all the nodes on the map. Suddenly you end up spending loads of money buying the mats off the market. Something I myself, would like to never do again.
Mounts are actually not that much of an issue. If you don’t want to use them. Then don’t. It’s not the same for WP’s. You have to use them after you die to respawn. Unless another player is near.
Adding in mounts wouldn’t take too long either. It would take a good 15 minutes to add in the char custom screen, and 30 minutes to increase and decrease the size of some animals, and then animating it wouldn’t take too long either. Considering how much work is put into it.
they sorta added a mount. no speed boost or anything but ur def riding it.

I think there is a game an mmo that has mounts why don’t you go and play that and leave gw2 as it is.
Whats next you will be asking for monthly subscription?
Junundu, by the way since nobody wants to look anything up (which is why lore “fanatics” are saying mounts never existed in the story at all) were giant wurms in the Nightfall story that you “rode” – and by that I mean they basically ate you – to travel across an area that was mostly toxic and would kill you if you tried to cross those areas without the wurms.
The cost of waypoints is NOT the issue. People seem to be misunderstanding that. Most people who want mounts don’t even want a speed boost, we just want a vanity item that we can parade around on and look cool with. Tbh, if using mounts made you SLOWER, I still would want them.
I don’t want a speed increase, I don’t want a reason for waypoints to become obsolete (seriously, if you think I’m going to use a mount instead of a waypoint to run from Metrica all the way to Kessex you are mistaken, and they’re not even that far), I don’t want something obnoxious and ‘overpowered’ by any definition of the word.
I just want a cool little mount to prance around on. Slow, fast, tiny, small, I don’t care. And before anyone thinks they’re being clever by telling me to go back to WoW, there are reasons I left it in the first place. Mounts are not reason enough to go back. But here’s a gold star for trying? I guess?
Mounts for players should be a part of Guild Wars 2 to help traverse the landscape quicker and easier. There doesn’t necessarily need to be a flying mount, but just a land mount that runs faster than the speed of our characters. Mounts could also be designed to attack other mobs and enemies, so that they can be seen as multi-purposed tools. What do you guys think? post your thoughts below.

What’s small for a Norn or Charr is big for a human and downright gigantic for an Asura.
If you scale the mounts to the size of the character, you run into obvious issues with Norn and Charr blocking places just because, as you said, they want to look cool. And even if you can talk to NPCs with the F key, that still does not mean that having a bunch of gigantic mounts in a popular location isn’t annoying or disturbing.
If you don’t scale the mounts, you end up with Asura riding gigantic mounts or Norn and Charr looking like they’re trying to ride a puppy.
And majority of the people here do want a speed boost and low costs so that they can get around the supposedly expensive waypoints. If it’s a speed boost you want, there’s a large selection already

Well it’s already been proposed that they wouldn’t be allowed in the main cities, so any annoyance there is limited to map chat. Outside those cities, I can’t imagine enough people would bother wasting their time to find and NPC to sit on solely to irritate people. In WoW, you could stand on the mailbox or on NPCs because it entirely blocked interaction.
Mailboxes aren’t an issue in GW2, and I fail to see how a mount standing on an NPC is any more or less obnoxious than 15 people doing it. It only worked so well in WoW because most people sat in Org/SW afk or in trade chat looking for groups, while sitting in LA would result in no use of the mounts.
I don’t recall ever saying to scale the size of the mounts. They could be racial; after all, they wouldn’t be a necessity. I’m also still sticking to ‘most of us want them as vanity items, with or without a speed boost.’ Because from most of the posts I’ve read (granted I skipped a few pages because I cba to read them all) the only people concerned with a speed boost are the ones who DON’T want mounts. That and the lore are most of the things being thrown out there as reasons to say no.
I’ve addressed the lore aspect of things, as well as speed. Size is apparently now something to worry about, but making them racial would solve that.
As Awesome already pointed out, there’s already a merged thread on this. Why did you feel the need to start yet another pointless thread on this?
