I don’t care for costume brawls, but I’d take them over duels any day of the week.

Duels are for kitten. Costume brawls are for fun.

Costume Brawls fit in the GW2 raison d’etat much better.

I don’t think costume brawl is fun at all in GW2, however it was great in the first.

All I need to do is put on the halloween costume and overpower everyone. I don’t think that’s fun for either party.

Honestly, while Costume Brawls are okay, I would really like for dueling. I wasn’t a fan of dueling in World of Warcraft, but I think it could be really fun, given the way combat is set up in Guild Wars 2.

I hope they get around to adding this sooner than later.

I hope and pray duels are never added to this game. If they are going to be implemented, for the love of God, please have duelists locked away in some remote corner of the Mists so that I never, ever have to see or hear them in the game.

Duels could be implemented and not affect the general population. Lorewise, Lions Arch has been the site of the gladiatorial games, and putting duels in an arena setting in the city where others could spectate would be a good idea imo. Just adding the slash duel command, on the other hand, would not be a good idea imo. There is room in the game for both costume brawls and duels for people who would like to participate in them.

You people are being ridiculous. ANet already confirmed that duels are possible with custom arenas when those come out. Furthermore, players duel every night in WvW south of the Windmill in the BLs. If you want duels, get in WvW and coordinate on the forums; it’s easy.

You want to know the reason behind having costume brawls and no duels? Apart from some technical problems, which can be solved mind you, it is another one of ANets compromises to please people in two camps, those who like dueling and those who hate it.

By transforming you into some wacky model nobody takes serious and giving you your own set of skills, they disconnect the players mind from their alter ego and remove the ability to identify with their character like many players normally do with the characters they have built in game. An important goal was to get rid of certain asocial motivations for seeking out duels, like ego boosting or harassing players with requests, while still allowing some basic 1v1PvP to happen in the PvE world. Not using your own weapons, traits and gear also saves them from being pressured to balancing every profession against any other, as players would keep complaining about always loosing duels with their profession against a certain other.

If you want real open world PvP, organize with other supporters and keep raising awareness on the forums. It worked with ascended gear and guild missions, it’s definitely going to work for dueling.

Goldshire is exactly what comes to my mind every time someone requests dueling. As you say – and I’ve said previously – PvE can be insulated from dueling if it’s implemented. I wouldn’t mind it if it’s quarantined off like the disease that it is. But I’ll be extremely kitten if this lovely world ANet has crafted degenerates into another Goldshire.

I wouldn’t mind if there was some sort of arena or colosseum that was there specifically just for dueling. Would be kind of a perfect thing to add in Lions Arch I think. Outside of something like that? No thanks.

Costume brawls? Meh. Wasn’t a fan in GW1 either but I’m not opposed to them.

So from what most of you are saying….if we players who like duels want to duel…we need to coordinate on the forums, go to the mists, then into a private server, or hope to stumble upon a group of people dueling???

That’s not fair AT ALL. If I’m with a group of people waiting for a bounty, or waiting for a dungeon group, I want to be able to duel people to burn time right there. Just add in an option to automatically block duel requests in the menu, and all you people QQing about duels will be fine.

Exactly, with the option to block duel requests in the options it doesn’t affect them AT ALL. Yet here they are QQing about people who love to duel, and saying we should have to go through WAY more trouble than we should have to just to be able to do it.

As long there’s a way for me to disallow duel requests when I don’t feel like dueling, then sure. One thing that I can’t stand is someone spamming duel-requests. I get it! You want to show some people how big your e-wang is. Personally, I really don’t give a skritt.

Duels can happen on different ‘arenas’ found in the open world. Once the competitors enter, the gates are closed and nobody can leave until one player is defeated or concedes defeat. These fights are visible to all other players visiting the arena.

I love how every single argument against dueling comes down to “I don’t want to be spammed by duel requests” or “I don’t want to see people dueling all the time”

we’ve already proposed 10000000 times that Anet should allow people to block duel requests completely so that the annoying group of people that want everything in the game to be their way can still have their way while we get to have fun.

OT – duels yes plzz!! 90% of this game is amazing, detailed PvE environments. If only i could actually battle people (even if it is just one person) in those environments!!

I could see people being against the idea of world pvp….but dueling? Don’t like, don’t do it!! No one is forcing you.

And if the issue is class balance…well people frequently 1v1 in mysts and WvW, so there is already data out there regarding class balance. I love the idea that duels would bring too light all these hidden class imbalances, while i’m still trying to find a CoF group thats not all zerker warriors. I think we already have a good idea about the current class balance.

So if I want to duel another player, I’m going to need to:

1. Find a person, go to the mists, then take them to a PvP server with 0 people in it
2. Create a private server (in the future) and then go through the same process as above
3. Organize with other servers on the forums to meet in WvW
4. Hope to find a group of random players dueling in WvW

This isn’t fair AT ALL. Add an option to block duel requests in the menu for the people who don’t like duels, and give us PvPers the option to duel where and when we want to!

First of all: Don’t speak for me, I’m a player and I most definitvely don’t want duels.

I can see that some players might want to duel, so I’m fine with that if
1. we get an auto-deny option that is active by default
2. you can’t duel in WvW, Dungeons, cities or anywhere even remotely close to a waypoint
3. there are no rewards, achievement points or whatever linked to duels
4. dueling wont have any influence on balancing

Are the other 500 threads not enough?
Do the players think the devs have not seen their other hundreds of posts?

OK, a hand full of players post on the forums asking for duels. The majority of players responding to the many, many threads on the subject have responded that they did not want duels. Do you really expect the devs to develop a feature that only a small number of players want?
I would much rather have them fix the bugs and work on expansions that ALL players can enjoy then wasting resources on trying to make a small group of players happy.

Orc starting zone is probably the closest to it…if you had naked rp’ing pedophillic elves, constant insults to your heritage, beggars, people dancing on the roof of the inn, guild smack talk, newb griefing, and a never ending stream of “Duel me bro, Duel me!!! Whatsamatter ya scared?” Made me sorry I rolled Alliance when I first started playing.

Which brings me to why I retracted my endorsement of duelling. No matter where you implement it, you’re going to start having that player type. And it will ruin the game. Some of the replies reminded me of those players.

That’s funny. I never noticed that on horde side. But I was warned that the ally side was generally filled with immaturity, so it sounds like it was good advice with what you’re describing.

I personally don’t care at all about dueling in this game, but I understand that some people enjoy proving that their kitten is bigger than friend’s/random players. I think a good way to implement it would be to add a separate area in LA that you have to zone into like an instance that would be solely for dueling. That way the majority of players that don’t care about dueling wouldn’t have to deal with duel requests/editing their game options to not allow duel requests, while still giving PVP fans a place where they can all smack on each other.

First of all, it’s not a major part of this game. It’s not in this game at all. Therefore there is nothing to take out.

Second, it’s my opinion, not fact. I have no control over what goes or does not go into the game. I don’t care one way or the other if you can duel or not. Not one little bit. It’s less trouble for me if they don’t put it in, but, and let me be perfectly clear to you: I don’t care one bit either way.

But, if I have to chose, then, no, I don’t want duels. If they want to make a special arena for infantile kitten measuring contests that you have to opt in to rather than out of then fine. Go have your jollies.

Ugh, not sure if I want duels or not. I cannot forget all of the whispers I used to get in Stormwind asking if I wanted to duel for all of my stuff. Lol what does that even mean? I can only imagine the kitten behind the keyboard on that one. This was everyday numerous times for a while. I quit going to SW because of it.

If I can disable duel requests and the kitten that would whisper me for a duel, I would be ok with it.
