The pve players , are only a base of hellokity games nothing more.

1) all u do is pve , cause u cant pvp another one, why? u are afraid and a terrible pvp player.

2) The pve players never want to do pvp , cause they skill play is terrible they only want to figths mobs , cause mobs cant think really and vs another player they fell inferior.

Not unless there’s a way to auto-decline challenges. And even then, still probably NO. It’s bad enough people constantly trying to party me to ask for duels in WvW…I’d rather PvE just stay what it is.

If they wouldn´t be occupied with all kinds of other “more important” stuff.

That’s the type of area I wouldn’t mind in the Hall of Mists. A race inspired dueling arena.

Charr could have the Arena.
Humans could have a Brawling Pit.
Sylvari could have a Dueling Circle.
Norn could have a Moot Hall.
Asura could have a Golem Gala or something neat like that.

YES! duels in open world will be useful and interesting!

While they’re on it, allow costume brawls only on these arenas as well. They’re breaking every last bit of immersion.

Okay then another factor to think about.
Let’s say we have open PvP, but a lovely couple want to throw down right near a Champion, let’s say Troll for this example.

Does Troll’s damage influence their fight?
Do they get to damage Troll?
Does nearby support players throwing down heals affect their fight in any way?
Do the conditions, like fire for example, contribute to the fight against the Troll?

If you answer “no” because the duel shouldn’t affect the Troll fight then why even have the duel in PvE to begin with? Because then we’d just have trolls trolling Troll.

Costume Brawls are the worst excuse for content I have ever seen in this game, sans maybe the F&F event (signs lol).

But you don’t see me saying they should be removed from the game just because it ruins immersion and makes a bunch of crap I don’t want to see on my screen when the kiddos get brawl happy. Same goes for dueling imo, if the kiddos wanna duel for real and not have a costume brawl, what’s the difference?

I find it funny that so many people complain about a system that doesn’t exist. No one is saying that a duel system has to be based around invites. It could be exactly the same system as Costume Brawl. I.e. you set up a (free) “duel box”, and other players can then accept your duel by using the same box.

Which would duels still allow to happen in places where I don’t want them. Keep those anoying effects and sounds out of my field of view, allow them only in certain areas and you can have it, otherwise I am and will always be a no.

Yet people already have costume brawls everywhere, there’s always a box of fun in a city which creates a lot of sound and effects. There’s always people spamming their skills to show off the animations of their weapons, there’s always people using portals and portal guns and even more people using them.

The reasons you guys don’t want dueling are some of the most absurd ones I’ve ever heard.

I mean seriously, of all the things to whine and complain and stamp your feet about it’s combat animations?

There have been many reasons, and many suggestions made. The main issue is this has been talked about to death. Players have already gone over and over the different reasons and different compromises proposed in many threads in many sub forums. Myself, at this point, I just do not feel like going over the whole discussion again for the umpteenth time. If you really want to know, read the forums instead of starting new threads. Asking the same question over and over and expecting to get a different answer is usually thought of as a sign of insanity.

Been there, done that. Never lost a duel, not once. #1 ranked player on a PvP only server. Personally, I stick to PvE now as the PvP players are usually the worst the internet has to offer. Rude, obnoxious, egotistical, you name it. I play games to have fun, not fight with some 13 year old with delusions of grandeur. Spend 5 minutes in WvW and listen to some of the map chat, it’s disgusting.

I found the answers unsatisfactory, so the thread will continue. Thanks. If the mods feel they need to merge it, let them merge it. As of now this is a separate and newer thread, and I have to see any compelling argument to keep people from dueling who want to duel. So far I have seen
1. Content Jealousy
2. False assumptions
3. People worried about more lag ( really the only viable concern)

I’m still waiting for a good reason why people who want to duel shouldn’t be allowed to beyond the “I don’t want it so no one can have it” attitude that permeates through this forum.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present the insecure teenager who obviously isn’t mature/smart enough to realize that attempting to insult people will obviously not warm them up to your way of thinking. You do realize that rarely are duels vs equal opponents right? In my experience the majority of invites are against lower level players or players you think you have a gear advantage over. If you really wanted ‘skillful’ gameplay you should be obsessed with spvp-but I’m willing to bet most ‘pve iz carebearz’ players only play wvw and try to engage uplevelled players. Well I’m sorry the game doesn’t allow you to stroke your little kitten but…oh wait…I’m not.

And it’s THESE types of attitudes right here that open world dueling fosters. It’s these types of attitudes that we DO NOT WANT. These attitudes ASSUME that because you don’t want to duel:

1) You’re a ‘pve noob’
2) You don’t know how to play (ie you suck, have no skill, ‘insert random baseless insult here’)
3) You’re ‘too scared’

So lets say i’m doing some exploration with a friend, or dungeon or whatever, and we want a break to have a duel or something, we need to transfer to another location, get on a different map, and then we can have it??
And of course in order to get the custom arena we need to pay for it, for just a single duel?

There have been many reasons, and many suggestions made. The main issue is this has been talked about to death. Players have already gone over and over the different reasons and different compromises proposed in many threads in many sub forums. Myself, at this point, I just do not feel like going over the whole discussion again for the umpteenth time. If you really want to know, read the forums instead of starting new threads. Asking the same question over and over and expecting to get a different answer is usually thought of as a sign of insanity.

It’s been discussed. No need to rehash it over and over again in a new thread when the old thread is still there. That is why the mods have to keep moving these threads and merging them because some people are just to lazy to bother reading.

I found the answers unsatisfactory, so the thread will continue. Thanks. If the mods feel they need to merge it, let them merge it. As of now this is a separate and newer thread, and I have to see any compelling argument to keep people from dueling who want to duel. So far I have seen
1. Content Jealousy
2. False assumptions
3. People worried about more lag ( really the only viable concern)

I’m still waiting for a good reason why people who want to duel shouldn’t be allowed to beyond the “I don’t want it so no one can have it” attitude that permeates through this forum.

You continue to ignore the people that say we don’t want OPEN WORLD dueling. We could care less if you had dueling locked away in the mists somewhere, just not around us. Some of us don’t want to play with people, or even hang around people with that mind set.

Like I’m standing in a supermarket and some guy comes up to me and says, “wanna duel”? I’m like ummm. no. I want to to finish shopping.

“What you’re scared I can beat you?”

“No. I don’t want to get your blood on my groceries. Go away.”

(Jumping up and down) “This old guy is scared to get beaten up by a much younger and stronger guy!”

I shake my head, take my shopping cart and walk to the next aisle with the guys jumping up and down following me. No thanks.

I’ve done most of my fighting…real fighting in real life. I grew up in Brooklyn in the 70s and there was plenty of violence to go around. I’ve probably had more real fights than most people here. It wasn’t much fun…not even when you won.

The point is, I’m like well past that now, and I don’t mind if you kids go beat each other to death in the next room, but I’d prefer to be left out of it.

I find it funny that so many people complain about a system that doesn’t exist. No one is saying that a duel system has to be based around invites. It could be exactly the same system as Costume Brawl. I.e. you set up a (free) “duel box”, and other players can then accept your duel by using the same box.

Which would duels still allow to happen in places where I don’t want them. Keep those anoying effects and sounds out of my field of view, allow them only in certain areas and you can have it, otherwise I am and will always be a no.

You can turn off duel requests, and it would stop some 12 year old from following me around and whispering me, if they decide they want to duel me. I’ve had it happen in other games, even ones where you could turn off duel requests. That’s because people who want to duel people, sometimes do it to grief people.

So what’s to stop people from whispering me about dueling, talking in map chat about how I won’t duel them, etc.

They have a block function, and I am aware it is bugged atm, they should fix that too while they are at it. I see what you are saying, I just don’t see how it’s a problem when the tools to deal with that situation are given to you freely.

My first dueling experience comes from WoW. I hard turned on that handy little tool that auto-declined duels. I had just created a new character, one of them blue skinned alien thingies. I was happily questing my way to level 6 when another player came running and jumping around me, spamming “wanna duel? Wanna duel? I’’l give you 5g if you win. You are just scared” etc etc over and over and over again. Basically, just like Vayne described. After I repeatedly told him no in all manners, from friendly to rude, I proceeded to log out as it was the only way to escape said player. Clearly, the option to turn down dueling automatically was not enough.

Now, people in favor of dueling often say that these kinds of players are rare and that most are rather friendly. But this experience ruined me from open world dueling forever.

I really don’t see the problem in having an arena for 1v1 for all those who like dueling. In GW1, I frequently dueled my guildies in our guildhall, and that was really fun. So why do you insist that the dueling HAS TO take place in the open world?

I’m not sure where you are coming from, and there is a lot of anger. Not once in this thread have I said the words “scared” or “carebear”, and the only negative comments I see are from people who wouldn’t use the feature anyway so it doesn’t affect them, they just don’t want others to have something that may at some point in time once in 6 months affect them possibly they think.

I still do not feel it’s right to exclude people when it doesn’t affect you either way. In all honesty the only reason I want them added is to get duelers out of WvW anyway :P

The problem is quite simple. I don’t really feel I need to have to block the guy. If they institute an area for it, and I don’t go to that area I never have to deal with it. Why give griefers the tools they need to grief. All other PvP in this game is sequestered in the mists for a reason. Anet gets why it’s a good idea.

I don’t know why you can’t see it. And yes, blocking someone doesn’t stop him from talking crap in map chat, or jumping up and down in front of you for six hours. It’s not about having the tools to deal with it. It’s about not needing to deal with it at all.

I’m not sure where you are coming from, and there is a lot of anger. Not once in this thread have I said the words “scared” or “carebear”, and the only negative comments I see are from people who wouldn’t use the feature anyway so it doesn’t affect them, they just don’t want others to have something that may at some point in time once in 6 months affect them possibly they think.

Not a drop of anger here, frustration maybe because this topic keeps coming back when its already handled with the latest custom arenas.

People like Tumbero are who I talk about with most of my earlier comment, so yes you might not have said those words, but others in the camp you are siding with have.
Your posts have been better compared to most within the PvP/PvE schism.

I tip my hat there, but ultimately the idea of a open world PvP is flawed because we have dynamic events going on all the time.

Either the events and the duels will affect each other or they’ll continue on without really interacting with one another. My earlier post in this thread about trolling the Troll in Queensdale is such an example. If the duels don’t affect the events then why even have them in the open map?

The idea of the duel itself isn’t something I’m fighting, nor do I have any fight in it (excuse the pun) because I’m PvE all the way. The point I’m constantly fighting is if we have an open world one or not. We shouldn’t because it doesn’t make sense in the GW2 structure. There’s a PvE, there’s a PvP, and there’s WvWvW. If people want dueling in PvP then fine, in fact this latest update should solve that. If people want it in WvWvW I can see that because it is a really big melding of PvP with some minor PvE elements.

If people want it in PvE what’s the point? There’s no real good reason for it.
