General Dungeon Discussion Thread - Part 2
i got that bored that I decided to duo a dungeon with myself. was really fun actually swapping between the 2 accounts fast enough to be effective. (and failing most of the time until i got the hang of it)
I feel like I’d have made spoj proud. 5X necro fractal 50
Surprisingly easy too.
Mossman -> Molten -> Aetherblade -> Mai
Did you lifesteal mai to death without removing a shield stack?

I think we ended up removing stacks each time, but yeah did a bit of stealing as well, was pleasantly surprised about that when i first brought my necro into a fractal a week or so ago.

What can I say, my necro was my WvW guy, BG represent! :b

Ok, I will give you that one bro.
Well played…Well played
I thought that might work, was in GoF for a while, but after last season things just got dull, no one wanted to fight but apparently some guilds swapped sides and it’s pretty decent again. I had quit when it got dull, it was my distraction from… PVE… which yeah…
Ran with GoF a few times. Those were some good runs. Although to confess I don’t remember any of their names anymore WvW has been slowly doing down hill since season one, which is why I spend so much of my free time running dungeons and stuff these days, unless I get pulled into a guild raid or such.
Hoping the New Maps, both in WvW and PvE will eventually break me out of my slump. Been thinking of hanging up my guard for a bit and playing something else. Thief or Ele maybe? For some reason I keep finding myself on the Engi forums maybe that is a sign.
Engi is awesome! It may not have the raw power of an Ele, or the specialized skill set of a thief, but you’re diverse and the rotations are fun if you’re in to that kind of mad play style. And, if you ever get bored with the normal power rotation, you can move on to an IMO more complicated though less finger intensive Condi build that still performs well enough to not feel bad about it The only negative I have to say about Engi is that once you play it, the rest of the professions feel a little dull though it gives your fingers a rest.
Wew not using food and slaying potions wat a casul m9 /s
Never knew it could bug by killing too fast xD
You can damage some of them before they show up visually, and killing them then will bug it. So if you say did too much damage while pre-stacking might…

Did this sometimes back during the days I used to play RS, was hard as kitten but extremely efficient. xD
Helped that the game’s screen size was pretty small so it was possible to have them side by side and see the game well on both screens.
I used to 4 box in EQ, there was a guy who ran with 15+… that guy sucked though. Had a few friends who 6-7 boxed with great success though. I 2boxed in DCUO as well, though that was pretty dumb, if anyone played that I’m sure they’d understand, it was actually more active to maximize than DCUO, think of every profession being Engi/Ele level rotations.
so we killed the mobs at the portal too fast and it bugged lol
Happens when you kill any of the mobs before the event bar appears on the top right.
can someone help me. i could’ve sworn i read somewhere that ranger off-hand training radius increase became base. or did i just make that up in my head?
They did say it would be in the first core specialization livestream. But like a lot of other weapon-affecting traits, it didn’t fully make it in -_-

Well this was posted yday on the ranger bug thread.
I’ve hit some of these compiled issues (like the 150 pet stats, some offhand range items and some pet traits not working while downed) and those should be getting addressed soon-ish.
We are working heavily on HoT and trying to get to these issues whenever time allows.

Hard to tell if the baseline changes are actually part of it but atleast they acknowledge some of the bugs.
I bet they fell off the table <.< when I recovered from my drunken stupor, uh.. yesterday? I saw them traits and pets lying on the ground with me and the bottles of milk.
k thanks for the info guys. was frustrating when i was lupi’ing with ranger. couldn’t see the axe whirl animation and kept dying to aoe.

What’s a wizard? Do they by chance mean necros?

What’s a wizard?
It’s a guy with a big hat and a majestic pair of moustache, and he eats omnomberries and mustard for lunch.

I got all 8 of my toons leveled and geared, at least to exotic armor with Ascended trinkets level. So jumping in with any of them wouldn’t be very difficult. They were all leveled back during the 1st six months of play before crafting or instant level tombs, so I have at least a basic idea of how to play them.
After the feedback I got today on the guardian forms I am just ready for something new. Maybe I will look more into my Engi or the Ele, I am wanting something with a little more active play. Not that I didn’t feel the need to move on my guard, but I know there is alot more work evolved with those two classes to reach their maximum potential. One of my good friends already plays an Ele so perhaps Engi would be a good place to direct my attention. He will look pretty sick decked out with fractal skins and legendaries.
… unfortunately, no he won’t, Engi’s are almost always in kits and with the recent big patch they removed the awesome Grenade barrage you got with Legendary. So now you basically see your legendary/weapon skins once in a while then it disappears.
Probably a lot of work, but I really wish you could get particles and foot stuff while in kits. But, at least the Barrage should be fixed to how it was, that was pretty neat.

Now casuals back on Reddit want to nerf Fire field + Blast combo. Hilarious the things they come up with.

Seems to me that they want to nerf anything that makes for efficient game play. They won’t be happy until we have nothing but nomads armor sticks and waterfields.
No because they want those nerfed too…. ventari heals and nomad equip.
yeah, kinda remembered that Nerf Waterfields post after I hit enter, was to lazy to change it though

Looks like anet goes after “buguser” that use void jumping in OW. Thoughts?
Eww, I really hope there’s more to that story than meets the eye. Hopefully Chris will pop on and share the other side of it.
Oh and…
Tank Revenant won’t be possible if things don’t change.
Good thing that things can change.
Trinity confirmed!
Well, I’ve always enjoyed playing healer. Why not.

Never understood why people want the game to change so much. I mean How many other games do we buy and expect it to be completely redone after purchase? Oh I bought GTA 5, it needs to be remade into Fable, or Final Fantasy needs to be remade into Saints Row.
Only in MMOSRPG

Dunno, I know for a fact that multiple people at Anet have watched my stream on numerous occasions and have looked and seen I have videos/VODs of me goating before, as they have to see the sort of stuff I typically do, so it seems kind of unlikely that breaking out of the map itself is what the problem is, just using it to gain unfair advantages.
I have not been threatened with a ban (knock on wood) so it seems more likely that the person who got banned here probably did something more than they’re describing. .. but, no way we can really know unless they decide to post on that thread explaining it in detail.

If devs want to change it and make it a trinity game, there isn’t really a way to protest.
… but they didn’t say they will, it’s mostly in their heads.

Of course Devs can do whatever they want to. Not that I think they would.
For me I just don’t understand the mentality. Why do players feel that we have the right to have a game completely redone for free because we decide we didn’t like the old game?
Would I be with in my rights to demand a game completely redone because it isn’t what i wanted it to be?
I think its kinda crazy.

What would upset me if they ever put the trinity with HoT, would be the fact that they did NOT communicate about it. If they feel it’s needed, yeah, that’s not a problem as the game belongs to them, but just say it so i know what to expect, and i’ll start looking for another game (because i just don’t like the trinity :p )
But communication has always been their weak spot …
Ooh, new glassdoor reviews. Let’s see how the teams are feeling in the leadup to HoT? Obviously with a grain of salt, since glassdoor is glassdoor.

Not a whole lot of positive in the recent ones, mostly just the same issues we’ve been hearing about for years now :-/ I was hoping they’d turn that ship around.
It’s always entertaining to read glassdoor..
" Advice to Management
There is such an unfortunate gap between the high-up decision makers & the actual creative team, it ranged from troubling to maddening. There are passionate people on both sides, but wild design switches in upper management’s approach (esp. Mike O’ Brien, the CEO) left a lot of people actually doing the work scrambling around. During the development of GW2, O’Brien actually backed off from getting too involved with the development of the game & it really helped the team as a whole focus and get things done. Post-ship, when departments were fragmented, the promotion-focused, monetization-driven attitude of upper management snuck in, & teams that had never had to do serious crunch during main development were squished into tiny schedules that damaged both work quality and quality-of-life. "
Yeah that pretty much goes in agreement with my opinion about the CEO and how not only his policy is hurting the company (silence treatment)
Not trying to defend Anet since when the reviews are consistently saying the same thing smoke = fire.
However, pretty much every company operates the same way. “OMG they asked us to ship a product by the deadline HEAVEN HELP US!” “OMG they made us work extra hours during CRUNCH TIME.” “OMG UPPER MANAGEMENT CARES ABOUT MONEY?! WHY!?!?!?”
These are kittened criticisms since they apply to virtually every company in existence ever. Companies that don’t meet shipping deadlines and don’t care about money are out of business.

Take a read through them instead of just reading that one snippet. There are a lot more substantial complaints other than “we have to do our jobs!” in there….
- “Bad dynamic with directors that tend to lead to hostile interactions instead of approachable management.”
- “Sink or swim environment that has led to a lot of turnover.”
- “Bad environment within the programming department, with a standoffish and isolated tools team, a core engine team disconnected from reality, and gameplay programmers often left without support.”
- “Fragile and convoluted codebase that makes it difficult to work in at times.” (Lupi autoattack anyone?)
- “IT department seems overloaded and undertrained to support a game team.”
- "The unfortunate part of working at ArenaNet really came after Guild Wars 2 shipped. The company folded into a lot of smaller teams, but refused to try to establish any kind of hierarchy. This led to a lot of “fake” titles, confusion, and jostling for position. Seniors felt undervalued & unable to advance to a leadership position, intermediates felt confused about how to develop their careers. Only juniors really benefited from an environment that emphasized generalist work."
- “Shifting schedules & trying to adapt management led to weird positions where ‘coordinators’ could be from an department, so suddenly a senior designer might find themselves answering to an animator, or a prop artist to a programmer, and so on.”
- “If you’re not an artist at ArenaNet, it is understood that your department is not the one in charge. I found many art assets were not even open for discussion, let alone debate, even when the community reaction against such was super negative.”
- “Don’t get me wrong, ArenaNet has some of the best artists there that I’ve ever worked with, but the upper management has made the decisions of the art leads unimpeachable & very inflexible when it comes to adapting to feedback.”
- “One thing I found out after the fact of working at ANet is that the salaries are below industry standard by a lot, even to the point when someone I knew outside the company called it a ‘local joke.’”
- “ArenaNet has become a toxic environment where people are worked to their breaking points and then told to keep working. The number one problem that seems to be plaguing ArenaNet is burn out and fatigue. People are often asked to work 10 to 12 hours a day and often to come in over the weekends.”
- “Another factor leading to the constant burn out and fatigue is re-scoping of the releases. Teams will work for weeks and months on content for releases only to have everything change a month before the content is launched. This requires the teams to redo a majority of the work for the release while still trying to meet the original deadline.”
- “ArenaNet has also become a political cesspool. People are being locked into positions not because of a lack of skill or talent, but because they don’t suck up to the right people. I have seen employee’s with glowing recommendations from their teams get passed over for employee’s who can barely do their job because of who they were friends with at the company. The people who actually do the work are too valuable to let them advance, but then the incompetent people make all the business decisions. Management is often ready to scapegoat their people as well. They make all the decisions, but take none of the blame when things go wrong.”
- “The good people are leaving the company. The politics and overworked environment have caused quite a few people to leave. Almost everyone who helped make Guild Wars and helped launch Guild Wars 2 are gone. You now have a company that trusts analytics and data over people’s intuition or that listened to their community.”
- “People feel like their complaints are not being heard and many feel frustrated in their lot at the company.” We know that story, don’t we?
- “Unless you are an Artist or a Programmer expect to be paid about 30% less than any other studio in the area.”
Yikes. I’ve experienced some of these sorts of issues first hand, and it’s not going to build a motivated team. It’s how you push away your talent. Life’s too short to deal with that sort of nonsense, and people who know their worth won’t stay in such an environment.
Oh well. Maybe they’ll get their ducks in a row after HoT, but it sounds like they’re just really having a problem transitioning from a small studio to a large one. If as many people have left as it sounds like they have, it’ll be tough to recover.
(edited by dlonie.6547)
I have no doubt that the criticisms are valid. But I still contend that most of them could be said about any American business.
Long hours, incompetent mid-level managers, erratic executives, etc etc.
www.twitch.tv/nike_dnt
Being underpaid in such an environment doesnt sound encouraging.
I am amazed at how underwhelming the tempest looks, bar a few exceptions (the air pulling skill, possibly air overload).
Meh.
Good things eles are good without, huh?
Will druids manage to compete for the prized Worst Specialisation of All Times?
I am fairly optimistic, despite the new development.
Plz make them be next so I stop suffering. Plz.

- “Bad environment within the programming department, with a standoffish and isolated tools team, a core engine team disconnected from reality, and gameplay programmers often left without support.”
They are using the same engine they used in GW1. They said they are using their own tools. No wonder those complains come up. At this rate, I’m rather astonished that GW2 still looks somewhat good.
Reading through the “GW2 needs DX12 support!” threads with that in mind is rather funny… and saddening.
