Holy Grind Wars 2!
Dont worry guys, Anet does not make grindy games™.
But NCSoft does. And they dont want to disapoint their eastern audience.
I’m not sure it’s NCSoft’s fault. That site with company reviews, Glassdoor, has an interesting and relatively recent entry about ArenaNet here. It’s a mostly positive review, but I like the cons:
Cons – Poor pay. Poor leadership. Many, many mangers, all with differing visions/opinions. Losing company culture to big business.
“Losing company culture to big business” is something I read as “selling out their core principles after finding out there are easier ways to make money”. Which IMO is exactly what has happened.
No, I’m arguing that I’m misunderstood in what I argue about. When language is used to mislead..or tacitly implicate…it’s sort of like a sneak attack. It’s the kind of thing lawyers and politicians do.
Indeed. And when they do so, it’s not just to argue for arguing. It’s to argue for winning. Like this:
And having recently fought a very long legal battle (which I won)
So when you say…
I don’t just argue to argue.

I think I could say absolutely anything, and you’d dissect, quibble, and argue for the sake of it.
You’re wrong. I don’t argue about everything.
Are you arguing that your arguing about arguing is not arguably arguable?
No, I’m arguing that I’m misunderstood in what I argue about.

Ascended weapons were announced as weapons thgat take a long time to craft.
Now all the mats you need are time-gating so no1 is able to rush it.
People knew how its gonna be AND YOU STILL COMPLAIN NOW????
Yes, because it’s much much worse than we expected. Plus some of us basically begged for them not to do it.
Yes, because it’s much much worse than we expected. Plus some of us basically begged for them not to do it.
Expected? Majority of people dont expect anything, they dont even know what they want ingame, but they always complain when they dont like it.
This is some serious BS.
Not necessary to be rude. And it’s not BS. Look at my posting history, I have pleaded with ANet not to do this, or if they do it not to make it onerous.
It is much worse than I expected (sorry, maybe shouldn’t have said “we”). I never thought that I’d have to run 20 dungeon paths or do 20 temples in order to craft an ascended weapon. That sucks.
You obviously like Ascended gear, you obviously won. Why can’t you be gracious in victory and go grind, grind, grind.
No i didnt level any of my professions to more than 400 by now.
Like you, I dont really care about those weapons.
In that case, I think one of the reasons for the constant complaints is that the complaints haven’t been acknowledged. I know that if my wife has a complaint the WORST thing I can do is ignore her.
Even if they said, “we hear you, we know some people are unhappy with this change, but we think it’s best for the game — deal with it” the complaints may die. Without any comment it seems like they may not be paying attention.
On the other hand, sometimes when your dealing with a toddler having a tantrum you have to let them scream it out. So maybe ANet is treating us like toddlers.

Toddlers with the money they need to stay in business.
This is the internet, the compaints never die
Even when arenanet deals with them right now and implements something so decrease the grinding, the people that already grinded like hell are the next who complain.
And with the next patch, they go on and on and on.

Sadly, ignoring the issue has never made it just go away, in any case I can think of. They would be far better off addressing it, but perhaps for internal reasons they can’t? In Gaile’s day, we had a lot more interaction from the community managers, and even when Regina took over, it was still pretty good. We don’t have that communication now, which is odd.
Of course, if they are treating us like toddlers, I good smack on the kitten would still probably go further…..

I think you are spot on.
The way I see it, they have not dealt well at all with the concerns voiced regarding ascended weapons.
There was a 20 page long feedback topic, initiated by them, but not a single moderator response in there. In the end, it was deleted. All the feedback removed.
There has been several other topics regarding ascended weapons that silently were removed. Others apparently noticed this as well. Yesterday there was a topic (only for a few minutes before it was removed), asking if the moderators got stricter somehow, because people noticed their own posts vanishing. Granted, those topics might have violated the forum rules somehow, but a lot of feedback still vanished with them.
I get that the ascended weapons are not going anywhere. They are not open for a debate on that one.
However: The way they have implemented them should be open for a debate in my opinion.
- Should the ascended weapons be account bound?
- Should they only be obtained reliably through crafting?
- Is the materials needed to craft them reasonable?
- Is the way they materials can be obtained reasonable?
I think that discussion is healthy and worthy of a response since we are not done yet. Ascended armor is on its way.
However, A-net remains silent. Maybe they are waiting for the storm to pass. If that is the case, I think it is sad. I think many valid concerns has been raised, as well as many valid suggestions as to how obtaining ascended weapons could be made more interesting.

That you think my words don’t mean much is something you’ve said before. And such comments are just as meaningless now was they were when you last spoke them. Like then, it matters not at all to me that you personally don’t feel what I have to say means very much. It’s dismissive and shows your mettle and that’s fine.
But you can only speak for yourself. What I say doesn’t mean much TO YOU. And there are others who would agree with you.
And there are those who actually quite like what I have to say. That’s sort of what forums are for, don’t you think?

if you find none of those things engaging and fun content then why in the world are you playing the game?

disagree with you = troll?
Not all, but some of us like to gear our players in the best stats before we relax and begin doing whatever we find ‘fun’. It’s a playstyle not all players have. But when the game came out there was even a quote by Colin that supported that style. Sadly I don’t have a link to the quote but it basically said that by level 80 players should already be in the top stat gear just by playing.
I have done all the events you listed, multiple times, a multiple of multiple actually. And there is no way I have enough mats or gold to get even one ascended weapon yet. I do have 100 obi shards and about 3mil Karma at least. I am glad I got that before the subsequent Karma nerf.
At this point in the game I can’t see a new level 80 getting that best in stat gear even remotely as quickly as was once possible. And a player that has more than one main character?
I am not whining only wishing that Anet can somehow integrate the acquisition of ascended gear a little better with rewards as a character levels.
The others I played with didn’t whine on the forums or come to make suggestions, or give any constructive criticism. Those people simply left. My guild is gone and the four of us left of 30 active players, are now trying to get into another guild we played with on occasion. At least they have room now.

The poster was giving the available options to get the mats needed. Shure you can only do one of those it will just take longer due to the once per day per character rule. (That was there before this update)
@Infernia.9847 you can be in top stat gear shortly after getting level 80 just by playing. Even now with ascended in the game.
you mean once per day per account for dungeons and world events right? This is going to take me forever
you mean once per day per account for dungeons and world events right? This is going to take me forever
Nope. Once per day per character. They just added ascended mats to the loot table. The time gate for the chests was already in place.

Dungeons are effected by diminishing returns after the first run.

If they nerf it to once per day per account. Then even I who is defending it and many others would get mad. As it does punish alts at that time. The way they have it implemented currently is fine.

per character, and I’m not sure about dungeons. I don’t know if you have to switch characters, or if you can run the same character for the same chest.

I seriously hope you are joking. I don’t even think ArenaNet would be happy with that number.
No they are farming COF for the same reason why they used too. Nice easy way to get 1 gold. Diminishing returns would likely not make it worth it to do multiple runs for ascended mats.
The game is turning into the opposite of what they promised before release. Now with the ascended weapons (and soon armor) out in open, it’s a Grind Wars 2 for ore and shards.
I’m not sure if Anet changed lead developers or if it’s just a result of sleeping with NCsoft.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.

It is, actually. “ArenaNet” is just a label for one of their in-house studios for accounting and taxation purposes. ArenaNet has no independance of any sort.
Yes, because it’s much much worse than we expected. Plus some of us basically begged for them not to do it.

And just as you posted that, someone in Seattle read your post and went…wow, that’s a good idea…we can even say we listened to the players.
But…. GW2 is grindy. I am not saying that’s all bad because some grind makes sense to me, but I think getting legendaries and such feels totally unrewarding and not worth the effort at all and it just is a long process getting mats together. There’s nothing epic about it except the grind or the cash spent on the TP. That’s what makes it boring and pointless to me.
The game is turning into the opposite of what they promised before release. Now with the ascended weapons (and soon armor) out in open, it’s a Grind Wars 2 for ore and shards.

NcSoft has owned Arena Net since before Guild Wars 1 was published. I don’t think NcSoft is particularly behind the changes to the game.
The lead developer hasn’t necessarily changed, but one thing has changed since before the game launched…the game launched. That’s what changed.
Before the game launched, Anet had no metrics on what players actually wanted. Who would keep playing and who would leave. They didn’t realize how fast the content locusts would consume content.
Hell, there’s someone in the guild who already forged his first ascended weapon. What did it take him? A week? And he did it without buying the mats on the auction house.

There’s clearly no lack of programming talent, but, from an external perspective, AN doesn’t really appear to be well organized on any level. Which is where you ultimately wind up with the feeling that the potential of this game isn’t really being seen and taken advantage of.

best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
What did they expect of this? Was this designed to be fun?
Well if you watched any of the interviews and videos of the game before it was released the devs stressed intently that fun was main focal point of the game. But I also know some people who cut themselves and are into all kinds of self abuse. Perhaps some of our devs fall into that category.
To me this should all be very simple. If you aren’t having fun in the game, it’s time to stop playing.
This isn’t an about face or anything like that. But the developers did give us a place to provide feedback on ascended gear, apparently didn’t read it, and have now (apparently) deleted it.
I would assume that the ONLY impact we can have on the game is either with the play / don’t play dichotomy. So, in some respects, if you aren’t upset enough to quit the game, Arena Net doesn’t care.
Ascended weapons are there for you to have a goal. The increased functionality you get from them is not even noticeable.

This is way to funny. This Forum Post has been up now for what 2 weeks? Maybe a Week and a half? I check it once every few days to see if a Dev has replied back. And of course not one reply. Yet i seen a Dev reply back to some dumb post titled “Kill the Kitty” or something and this was the Dev’s reply ONE DAY AGO
“New wallpaper for sure! Hope everyone enjoyed the stream and see you on the battlefield!”
Really? I dont care about new Wallpaper and no i didn’t enjoy the stream. I would like someone to reply back on this TOPIC that has over 16k views and over 700 replies.

That’s were I’m at. I don’t play. I log on occasionally to check ingame mail. I’m certainly not even looking at the gem store. I’m hoping all those others who feel like I do also stop playing, and voice their opinions to ArenaNet.
I also hope that ArenaNet doesn’t completely misinterpret the whole thing and add more gear grind. But you never know. They don’t seem to be in touch, at all.
To their credit, the forums are kind of fun.

I don’t even mind the mats gathering, what bothers me is that we’re being forced to craft
Why can’t we just gather the mats and use the mystic forge to make our ascended weapons? That would satisfy me so much more.
I don’t even mind the mats gathering, what bothers me is that we’re being forced to craft
lol I’m in a similar position. Were I even remotely close to 400 crafting, I might actually complain about all the stupid mats that are probably unreasonably time consuming to acquire.
Beyond my displeasure of Ascended gear in and of itself, what really boggles my mind is how they decided to commit the same mistake they made when they released As trinkets and just placed them all in one activity. I loathe crafting and can’t even remember what disciplines my toons have. Guess I get no As weapon.
The entire Ascended gear thing is a debacle – a hilarious train wreck.
It won’t be long before those lucky/rich enough to get their ascended gear are creating topics about how faceroll easy the content is, and why can’t we get harder/new content to challenge us since we have better stats than before.
Meanwhile the rest of us are working towards those better stats.
Meanwhile some of us are wondering if it’s even worth it to try.
This is so true. And arena net should have ignored these people in the first place. This game will get really stupid with gear just like wow did. These types of gamer’s with no life are never going to be happy with anything. They play all day and get everything in a month. These player’s kill every game they play because dev’s suck up to them.
I just realized I’m over halfway to having the necessary time-gated loot by just doing my usual world event and WvW routine without even looking up the recipes.
Ya know, after looking at the list, it could actually take 2-3 days to get an ascended weapon.
Ya know, after looking at the list, it could actually take 2-3 days to get an ascended weapon.
…if you already have most of the list stocked up. If you’re starting from scratch, you are going to take a LOT longer.

Yep I’ve also heard direct feedback about arenanet which correlates with the above comments. The game development is not being effectively project managed at most levels.
