Game Statistics was very effective in the past !

Tell that to every other MMO that has failed.

Numbers don’t tell you reasons, they just tell you numbers. If interpretating them were so easy, we wouldn’t have had our TORs, Furys, Vanguards, Teras, etc.

And I thought the WoW community was bad when it came to crying about actually doing something in order to receive something.

Was I ever wrong. Seriously would never have believed this much QQ could be spewed out because of “grinding”. Don’t want to make it? Then don’t make it. Want to be the best? Then do something in order to deserve to be the best. Easy logics.

Don’t want it to be crafting? Well then, come with an example what else one could be doing instead of crafting. Farming badges? Farming WvWvW? Would still be people crying about “grinding”.

The only solution to all this whining would be not to add any gear at all, but wouldn’t that have been a bore. What the whiners don’t understand is that this is implemented for the ones who like it. I truly dislike people who think that just because something is there, they HAVE to have it, even if they don’t actually want it. Its not like this game got endgame raiding with gearscore clearing. You still get to see the entire game even if you don’t have this tier of gear on all your characters.

Uh yes, champion/temple/world boss trains makes you da best.

i do not mind and sometimes enjoy grinding in games where it feels rewarding

in GW2, however, i don’t feel like there’s much of an incentive to do so. meanwhile, it is growing more designed to be that way, which causes conflict as the incentive is not present

Thats happens when you implement half of gear grind treadmill.

Its stats for the sake of stats, nothing to progress to, nada, its most pointless tier on history of MMOs. At least in other MMOs you get a new raid, but no, in GW2 you get to farm what you have farmed hundred(s) of times before…

What’s really fun is I actively play 6 of my 7 80s. Gearing them all with ascended, is going to take months. And can you imagine when ascended armor comes out? It’s going to take YEARS. I think this is incredibly unfair to people who play multiple characters.

It was fun while it lasted. One year. Now we have our grind-for-stats-til’-you-get-to-the-fun-part style of MMO. Everybody could get a full equipment of exotics in a decent amount of time. Now we got Karma Nerf and crafting grind. The daily checklist isn’t fun. I guess I follow the people of the six guilds I was in.

Dont worry, a lot of people are in your shoes.

One year ago, people were whining here about the lack of “gear progression” beyond exotics, about the little rewards for mindless grind, and so on. We told them that people who were happy were busy playing and not complaining on the forums. What did ArenaNet do? They listened to the whiners, and thus ascended gear (and everything in the game since then).

So really, don’t expect your argument to convince anyone. We have seen how pointless whining was very effective in the past.

Game Statistics was very effective in the past !
Forum was not the reason !

Really?

Show me those game statistics.

Actually ive never seen people complaining about lack of gear grind in GW2 even biggest haters. We are supposed to believe theres some mythical mass of people that cannot live without gear grind.

While I have no problem with how the ascended weapons are laid out personally, I think it does go against the grain of the game that Anet has been telling us about. I’m not necessarily surprised by this, but I can definitely see why people are annoyed/disturbed/angry.

On one hand, the world is busier than I’ve seen it in a long time. Obviously this has worked for them. It has done what Anet wanted it to do.

But the obvious question is what does Anet do the next time that the world starts to die down?

I wonder this, too. I think the locusts are going to head for the next AAA MMO releases, as they always do, and the game will be left with those who really like it. Unfortunately, I think ArenaNet have alienated many of their Guild Wars playerbase…so yea…how many will remain?

Moreover, what sort of gamers will remain? What kind of game will these gamers like? Will ArenaNet work towards that sort of player? Or try to continue on the current path and win back the locusts?

Most of what I’ve read about the future of GW2 appears to have been left deliberately nebulous…maybe there’ll be more tier gear. Maybe there will be a higher level cap. Maybe not. I think the not knowing is upsetting people, too.

This strikes me as a very interesting discussion. You might start a new topic on that, if you feel inclined. I’ll chime in.

I was thinking the same thing… But I think Guild Wars 2 has two barriers protecting it:

1. ArenaNet was lucky, in that no big AAA MMORPG was released in the months after the GW2 release. Farmers now have spent a lot of time grinding in GW2 to agree to leave their rewards behind so easily. I believe one of the reasons why WoW still has so many players is that a lot of farmers realize how much time of their lives they would have wasted if they simply left Azeroth and their fully grinded characters behind.

2. The developers of the incoming MMORPGs are not very smart. There was an article in a popular gaming news site titled, “Did The Elder Scrolls Online commit suicide by having a monthly fee?”. While those games will probably go free to play after six months of being released, this will be seen as a sign of failure, so it won’t help their popularity with the MMO locusts.

Not that I don’t expect the MMO hoppers to hop from GW2. But I think a lot less will leave than if the next wave of MMOs had been released 3 months after GW2, or if they had a similar business model as ArenaNet.

Or try to continue on the current path and win back the locusts?

Win back the locusts, no doubt. That’s what they did the last time the game lost a high number of players (a couple months after release).

One of the main issues is there’s always new items to grind endlessly for, but it doesn’t drop from new content. They just add it to the drop tables of things we’ve done a thousand times before. Also, I don’t need the increased item stats to grind the old content I’ve already beaten, so why am I even bothering?

There’s just no purpose or fun in any of it.

Can people please stop qq’ing over a gear grind, etc… You just need exotic gear to do most of the harder stuff in the game and for Fractals you don’t need the ascended weapons. If you don’t like the way you obtain these weapons, then don’t bother, you don’t need them!

Just play the parts of the game you like and if you don’t like any of them, play another game!

Are you REQUIRED to eat three meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)? No.

SHOULD you eat three meals a day if you wish to perform at your best? Yes.

Players are by no means ‘required’ to get Ascended gear. Just like players are by no means ‘required’ to have exotic gear, or any gear for that matter.

But SHOULD the player get the Ascended gear if they wish to perform at their very best? Yes. So in that sense it is ‘required’ to get. Sure a player can run around in just blue or green gear, heck even all white gear with no bonus stats. But if the player is running around in that gear, then the rest of the game and its content doesn’t matter because they don’t care to experience to it’s fullest. To which I have to ask, why play the game at all at that point?

For now Agony Resist is restricted to FotM. Key words that should be taken from that is ‘For Now’. Why on earth would they waste time on AR and Ascended gear being for FotM only?

The new additions in November are just the start of our item progression initiative. We’re going to add tons of new high-level content to Guild Wars 2 in the future. As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content). – Linsey Murdock

A ‘few extra stats’ doesn’t matter when you only have a back-piece and amulet. It might not even matter with a back-piece, amulet, two rings and two trinkets. With full Ascended armor, weapons, trinkets, rings, amulet and back-piece it does actually kind of matter now. Why? Those ‘few extra stats’ are alllll combined and rolled up in to one. All of a sudden someone who has full ascended gear has the edge over anyone who doesn’t have a full set.

You are confusing opinions with complaints, the forums are not only for information, they are also to give your opinion. If you read what I wrote everything was an opinion or things that I would want in the game for example: “crafting is the most boring thing in the game, at least for me

As you can see in the bolded words I was giving my opinion. I have never said that I don´t like ascended, I just don´t like the way weapons were released.

You said the people that are happy are playing the game, the thing I like most in the game are fractals and pvp, most of my time in the game has been in fractals, I was happy with ascended rings and fractal capacitors when they were released because I could acquire them doing the things that I liked of the game but even then I knew it wasn´t fair fot the people that didn´t like fractals. There should be many ways to get them.

So I´m actually playing the game, playing the things that I like and I have all ascended trinkets. I got them doing things that I liked but for the ascended weapons I have to rely on luck with the drops, because I really find crafting so boring and I think leveling crafting to 500 it’s just a grind.

If you guys spent half as much time grinding as you did complaining in this thread you’d all have an ascended weapon already.

The only “grind” is that you need to do world events, kill champs, and run dungeons… the horror… playing the game… how could they…

I regard champ farming as the single most tedious thing I have ever done in a video game. I can only hack it for an hour or two at a time, even with my own music on while I do it. Ask US military vets what “hurry up and wait” means and why that is so frustrating and you’ll grasp my distaste for champ farming. It’s like being in the Army again.

Nope. you’re not right. I’m not talking about farm spots. I’m talking about leveling my alts in various zones around the world. I’m talking about being in Sparkfly fen today, when nothing else was going on and having half a dozen people join me to fight a champion risen megalodon. I’m talking about entering a couple of the mini dungeons, that weren’t getting much traffic. I’m talking about people running dungeons again. I’m talking about just playing the game.

Nope. you’re not right.

As you might be aware, I don’t farm and don’t usually hang around farming spots.

I like when you dismiss your own argument.

On one hand, the world is busier than I’ve seen it in a long time. Obviously this has worked for them. It has done what Anet wanted it to do.

Thats the removal of culling.

No it’s not. I played the game after the removal of culling just as many hours a day as usual and the world wasn’t as busy as it was after this update.

Its called “streamlining players to farm spots”.

I’m not dismissing anything. I’m saying that Anet has brought people back to the world with this new update, no matter what you think about it.

They can still funnel people into specific areas at will. What do you think zone wide invasions are about, and why do you think they kept them in the game as permanent content?

Anet has a plan. They may not have shared that plan with us, but in my experience, this company has reasons for what it does.

Just because you don’t understand those reasons doesn’t negate that they have them.

What does play-friendly mean? Take the introduction of vertical progression. To you that’s not player friendly…to other people it is. The wallet was player friendly but some players complained about it.

I honestly don’t believe there’s anything that’s player friendly with a capital P.

You’re wrong. I don’t argue about everything. There are many things that are done for the benefit of players that players don’t think are player friendly. Grind is one of those things.

And MMO with absolutely no grind is an MMO that won’t get played. The grind is what keeps people playing. Is it in player’s benefits not to grind? Well, sure. And not so sure.

What I’m saying is that you’re casting something here in black and white. We don’t know if their agenda is player friendly. If it’s good for the game, very often, it’s good for players who like the game.

I’m sure I know what you meant, but due to the way you phrased it, it has a lot of potential interpretations. It’s painting the possibility of this darker side of Anet, sitting there making decisions against their players.

And it’s all 100% speculation unless you work for the company.

Then you’ll note that I was merely adding a possibility to a list of possibilities. I’m not going to hire a lawyer so that my every statement covers all possible interpretations. I’m happy to discuss things, but there comes a point where the quibbling is short-circuiting the discussion.

And we’re not in court here, or writing a technical manual. I’m just throwing out thoughts, and (hopefully) inspiring them for the sake of discussion. I find discussions enjoyable, and I certainly don’t insist that everyone agree with me (that’d be a boring discussion, indeed). And I’m not going to define anything in watertight, Webster’s terms. Ease off with the lawyering, and just chat about the topic at hand, mate.

I think we’re all intelligent enough to understand that we don’t, and won’t, know everything. If we did, there’d be no point in talking about it.

Edit. I think the forums are broken. Getting a lot of errors and having to redo things.

Maybe true with themeparks, not so with sandboxes. UO had pretty much no grind at all and I have played it far more hours than I’ll probably ever spend on GW2.

Adding grind is the developers way to keep players playing when they have no substantial content coming into the game. It’s a trick that they use instead of saying “we won’t have any good content coming out for another half year or ever”.

I’m still totally baffled why developers choose to go this road instead of creating tools that the players can use to create their own content. I’m not just talking about huge creation tools such as the Foundry in Neverwinter or the terraforming tools in Minecraft, but also simple tools like player faction PvP, simple event creation tools, or even just books/letters you can write on and pass to other players.

Sad truth is with Foundry Neverwinter will probably outlive GW2, even if the game itself has much lower production quality and an invasive P2W cash shop.

You’re right. In sandboxes, it’s not grind that keeps people playing…it’s also true that theme park MMOs get far more of a population than sandboxes….which is why people keep making them…and Guild Wars 2 is most definitely a theme-park. All the content is created by Anet.

I mean a game like Eve Online is considered amazingly successful with half a million subscriptions, the highest number they’ve ever had.

The problem with sand boxes is, though they dont’ have grind, you really do have to be married to them to get anywhere. People complain about the grind in themeparks, but it’s often sandboxes that are far more of a job, at least where MMORPGs are concerned.

Sandboxes are only grindy if you make them. They don’t have to be.

On the other hand, themeparks need to be grindy because there is no dev team big enough to churn enough content for the players to keep them playing without time sinks.

What’s really fun is I actively play 6 of my 7 80s. Gearing them all with ascended, is going to take months. And can you imagine when ascended armor comes out? It’s going to take YEARS. I think this is incredibly unfair to people who play multiple characters.

I totaly agree.
I know the pain since I have 9 characters (8 important) and this change just killed my interest in playing.
Seriously after so much for gearing characters so many transmutatuin stones to make them look nice we get this… “GRIND AGAIN”

So I guess i will quit now or soon just like all my friends did cause rushing content.

There is just so much frustration thanks to the design of this game…
