Lost Shores Feedback Thread
The final event was awesome…2 hours of intense fighting during a coreographed event…very good…the lag was ok, a lot of mobs we killed we couldnt see but the game kept running.
The rewards were much better than we are used to, so it was a success.
But all the other things that went badly during the weekend need to be addressed.
One more thing: its obvious for everyone that the loot in the new map is broken. People returned to Plinx event chain even with the longer respawn…this speaks for itself. I spent hours in the new map and only got nothing. At Orr I get a lot of loot.
Thanks and best regards,
Red
I got six items, four of which I couldn’t use and two of which were guaranteed for everyone. That’s some awesome loot.
On the plus side, at least it was a 20-slot bag.
I find it pretty strange that the event is classed as “good fun” in the same breath as “nice loot to cap it off”
I’ve got no doubt if the event was just there for event’s sake, you’d have thought it was a pile of doody.
I had the best time of my mmo life during this event I never get to do these things i other mmos also that reward at the end awesome got a Precursor
Sure it took upwards of 3 hours. And maybe a server disconnect once or twice, meaning starting again at another point on another Overflow or the main server.
BUT
The whole battle was fun.
Especially the end chain with the pushing back of the Ancient to the final push.
Kudos Arenanet. Well done
Party in the lair!
The event was way too long. I remember thinking how I was gonna come here and “kitten” when it was done and not worth the time. I then opened the chest and was very very happy Loved the 2 account bound items and all the exotics and yellows. Great reward and not a “bad” event really, but the length could use some work……
Loved the event ArenaNet, great job. The only issue I truly saw was the lag. For me it was FPS, no skill related lag.
But yeah, amazing job, bring on more of these.
lol 3 things…? Yikes. That’s pretty dire.
How come some players had NO lag whatsoever but majority of us had huge lag that made it unplayable?
I didn’t participate in the final battle, but I enjoyed the scavenger hunt part of the event on day 1 (although it was a tad confusing at times). I am also looking forward to the jumping puzzle and dungeon that were added. Thank you Anet for your hard work.
Applause for all the things that worked?
crickets
It was very entertaining on my server all the way through. i liked that it lasted a while and the reinforcement stages were a bit drawn but ok with lively map chat. Its a much much better finale then a short 30-60 minute event. Count me on the side of everything done very well and more of that please. The two stages in LA cant compare, they were far too short. I am also very happy that Anet included rewards that are obviously from this event instead of only random exotics/rares.
I would like to see more boss fights that give decent rewards. Instanced boss fights! :P no more zerg lag please… but srsly.. my reward was about 3 hrs for 4 gold. That’s probably a little less then farming, but higher chance to get precursor.
not only was the overflow bugged to where you couldn’t see the way points or anything else, everything you killed respawned so fast that when you did die, you were half dead when you got back to the fight. The lag was horrid, and no, it wasn’t my computer or anything. I had to log more than once because I either couldn’t move or because i got stuck walking backwards. I ended up getting hit with huge attacks that reached well beyond the red circle and…at the end…after almost 3 hours of playing, I got to the chest…..I opened it and….KITTEN NOTHING!! I got leather gloves, a shortbow I couldn’t even use and two shields I couldn’t even use! What am I going to do with all that crap. I got told sell it, you can make money of of it. OK, so maybe get like 2 gold form it, good for me, kitten on the trading post for something different in exotic is triple the price!
Now, I have heard of people not getting anything at all because they got disconnected and, I kind of feel bad for complaining but, seriously, why can’t you guys tailor what is in the chest to the character that is playing at the moment, why does it have to be random. It’s stupid and really REALLY frustrating, to get to the end and get kitten you can’t even use. That’s just as bad as opening the kitten thing and having it be empty.
I feel bad for all the people that got disconnected and didn’t get anything, they got the even shorter end of the stick than I did. All in all, it was a horrid event and i feel like I got smacked in the face with the same leather gloves they left for me in the kitten chest.
What end loot? It’s the same as everything else you get in this game—- nothing special but a 20 slot bag. Woooooooo
lol 3 things…? Yikes. That’s pretty dire.
To be fair “pretty much all of Southsun” is a big thing that rolls up a lot of content.
And Fractals of the Mists also mostly works, although it apparently has a lot of DC issues.
But yes, vastly more bits of the event had gamebreaking problems than didn’t.
The only lesser rewards I can think of is NOTHING. You guys are in denial—- the rewards SUCKED. 2 and a half hours for a 20 slot bag and some rares and exotics that do not apply to my toon I was on? Get real. Glad it’s over and I hope it never comes back.
Oh I’m sorrying they didn’t give you 5 legendary items, 500,000 karma, and 500 gold.
great event!!! last fight felt long when the champions came in but overall this is the right direction.. Posted this because the people who like it rarely say anything in the forums. Just the the unhappy players. I was happy with how the events went except phase 1 bugs.
lol 3 things…? Yikes. That’s pretty dire.

I agree, its a big thing. But it’s not solidified by you saying they “appeared fine”…meaning you have no full idea if they were broken at points or not (this is relative to everyone, not just your own experience)
Fractals work. Until someone DC’s (which fractals made a lot of people do)…and this what they called a bug when the same thing happened normal dungeons. A la – “not working as intended”
I kind of liked karka fights. Like, adults doing barrel rolls, infants jumping over people all around. Was fun.
However, the lingering poison wasn’t, the crashes and lags neither.
I think the event went for about an hour too long, but otherwise I really liked it. Thanks for making it difficult too.
From the lowest dungeon to the highest peak we fought with the Ancient Karka of Southsun Cove…
Until at last we threw down our enemy and smote his ruin within the lava field…
The only lesser rewards I can think of is NOTHING. You guys are in denial—- the rewards SUCKED. 2 and a half hours for a 20 slot bag and some rares and exotics that do not apply to my toon I was on? Get real. Glad it’s over and I hope it never comes back.
That’s better than anything I’ve gotten in over 100 hours of play.
This game is a failure, of course the events are
That’s completely over-the-top. This game is great. The one-time event just had too many issues to ignore.
I believe I am allowed to think like that too, this game has to many issues to simply ignore. Seeing as that its your definition of failure applied to this event, I shall apply the same definition to the rest of the game. A failure.
Nah. You’re misreading what I said or twisting it. Either way, it’s over-the-top. Not worth discussing further.
The weekend was a terrible idea gone wrong. Add a great deal of content to a game with lists and lists of compiled bugs. Add it on a weekend when you introduce a free trial. Add it during peak server times and make it one time only events. Recipe for disaster.
This certainly didn’t help. In the future, ArenaNet needs to be more aware of server and client limitations.
Pretty sure we’re on the same page here. You think things full of issues are failures, and I agreed.
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
The only lesser rewards I can think of is NOTHING. You guys are in denial—- the rewards SUCKED. 2 and a half hours for a 20 slot bag and some rares and exotics that do not apply to my toon I was on? Get real. Glad it’s over and I hope it never comes back.

Wow, you’re a mind reader.
How about something significant and unique to this event besides some dumb back which is only 2 slots better than what I already have? Or how about at least SOME gold to offset the fact that I actually LOST money to this event due to all the wiping?
It’d be great if I could use anything I got from that chest, but no, as an engineer I got a staff, a bow, and two heavy items.
As an oceanic player, I’m really disappointed that there would be a 1-time event which completely isolates us from being able to participate if we live in the real world and have jobs or school.
I took an early lunch just to try and be part of it and I still missed it because it was finished by 11.45am (NZ time). Why can ANET not support the rest of the gaming community outside of the US and stage another one in our peak times? Say 12 hours after the first one or something? There’s plenty of us being left out of things like this.
Then you’re doing something wrong— at level 80, rares and exotics that are just randomly generated stats but same skins are commonplace.
The design was awesome, but the execution was flawed.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. The amount of lag and invisible mobs spawning on top of you marred this event to such a horrendous degree. Worst of all is you could definitely see what the designers had in mind, and it was brilliant, epic in scale and well thought out. And the payoff at the end made it worth the hours spent.
As for the rest, whoever decided that the servers needed to be overloaded on one spot, while they clearly lacked the capacity to do so, and also had the bright spark to hold an ‘invite a friend’ party during a major event weekend, seriously, they need to sit down and reevaluate their stance, because you’re hurting this game more than you can possible understand.
ArenaNet needs to have a long hard look at everything that went wrong with this event, and outline some clear goals of how to proceed. Because from here on out, your fans will become less and less forgiving.
What are the majority of the players smoking in this thread and where can I get some? Don’t think there’s enough weed in the country to make this a successful event.
Due to work and other things I missed all one-time events. No biggie that’s the luck of the draw I suppose. Finally get to the one on Sunday – the ancient Karkara or whatever it’s called. On an overflow server, lag is immense, even an Anet employee, Wide Char, was there. Almost two hours in and looking to be epic a nice change from everything else and then it happens, the dreaded sound bug “woo – woo – woo – woo” followed by “duh- duh – duh – duh” as computer freezes. So have to restart, by time log in event is over and many of the people I was fighting with are bragging about their rewards.
I killed many veteran karka, many young and others, I revived around 30 or so people made it from the beach to the nesting sites. I destroyed those nesting sites to erupt steam, used motars to push it, etc. . . and then to not get anything because of a glitch since betas that still hasn’t been fixed.
I’m not here to flame or vent just to tell my experience, since Anet has made that there focus and mission, and IMHO they have succeeded at just that for the whole scope of this game. This event was my single worst experience of this wonderful game. With all the bugs at the beginning and missing of the major events, I am sorely disappointed, but hey it’s just a game!
If any Anet employee ever reads this I hope something from my experience is taken away and applied to other events down the road. I will be hesitant about ever enjoying any one-time events released for GW2, because of my experiences. If I had to say of a single thing that ruined it for me it would be the bugs – please, please, please remember this especially with releasing with so much hype and limited time to enjoy the content.
I will enjoy the things left after this weekend. I did enjoy the dungeon and the new island to explore and I DO look forward to new content – maybe not “one-time” events.
I hope that there is also a survey like there was with WiK to evaluate what the players thought. If there is I hope there is a section about the bugs interfering with people’s gameplay. From what I’ve seen in map & guild chat people’s experiences are very mixed, but I would bet more than half of us are sorely disappointed with the weekend.
For the next few days, this event will be considered the final nail to the coffin for Guild Wars 2 until the herd find something new to complain about.
Was it a failure? Depends on what ANET were trying to accomplish, but I think most people on here just wanted phat new loot.
A shout out to the entire team(s) that built this Lost Shores event. The FotM team for a great dungeon that has none of the issues of the original 8 dungeons. And especially the Southsun team that designed Saturday’s and Sunday’s one-time events. I do feel bad for the folks who couldn’t make either event. (Although Anet publicized the schedule more than a week beforehand, so it’s not like you didn’t have time to plan ahead to be there.)
But despite any negative feedback, I want the Anet teams to know that myself and my partner (and our guildmates who stuck with it all to the end too) felt truly immersed in something historic. Every time we run around Southsun from now on, we’ll have a feeling of “ownership” and of “being there” when it all went down. The one-time mechanic has its downsides, to be sure, but that’s sure a nice upside for the people who make time to be there and participate.
Unfortunitly, the event didn’t go like this on every server. The one on Dragonbrand never made it passed the Escort the Demo squad event, it got half way then bugged. Im hoping they can do something for all the people who missed it because of this.
I participated in the first phase. That was enough to convince me to not bother with the rest, so, yes, as far as I’m concerned the event was a failure. I suspect, however, that it was meant to fail, and therefore was a brilliant success.
I wish we could repeat it. It was a blast. Both the whole event and chest rewards. Although Dusk is now pretty much dropping in price every second on the TP. Too many got it I guess.
Couldn’t get into any overflow that wasn’t already done, gg.
I am pissed I was on the overflow server—- if I was on my Dragonbrand home server, I would have been lucky enough for it to bug and I could have done something fun instead.
Finally, someone who’s not complaining. I agree wholeheartedly, the event was a blast, despite taking forever, and the fun + loot (even though it’s considered “kitten” because I did as a lvl 19) was more than worth it and I must also thank Anet for making this event.
My only regret is that they didn’t deliver on this awesomeness in terms of balance changes/bug fixes.
cool story, join get d/c = no loot
half the ppl in the guild weren’t on b/c of timezones and work
one time event that has an increased chance of precursors – unavailable to a ton of the guild wars 2 population, d/cs others so no chest, lag for most of the parts = generally a very unhappy group of people that were screwed by arenanet’s lack of foresight.
thanks guys

+1 To the both of you. Glad to see some positive feedback and criticism.
There was a story? I missed most of phase 1 (due to bugs), there wasn’t much story for me. The story I did find didn’t make much sense without the first part.
It was uber long, it was laggy, the mobs hit hard, and there weren’t many drops. But it was awesome! Chalk and cheese compared to Phase 1 and 2. My only concern with it is the loot I did receive was slightly rubbish (Heavy Armour for a Ranger, a Longbow (worse than my current) a Dagger and a GSword) without any unique skins.
I was looking forward to epic looking loot and was disappointed to see I could have picked up this weapon skin from a level 1 Weapon vendor.
Phase 3 was good. Good work.
@ajlee17
Having just finished the ancient karka event, I just wanted to come on here and give my thanks to arenanet for the event. While it wasn’t perfect and I’m sure there are already plenty of people whining about this or that, I wanted to say that I enjoyed this event very much for what it was.
Even without the rewards, which are pretty darn nice by the way, it was a nice experience I will remember fondly. I’m not the best at giving in depth feedback so I’ll leave it at that. Thanks for the first big event, it was fun and will be looking forward to the next one.
I suspect, however, that it was meant to fail, and therefore was a brilliant success.
Any ideas why?
I don’t necessarily disagree with your assessment, but I’m at a loss as to why they’d intentionally tank.
Good event, no lag no delay etc, nice reward.
Anyone saying otherwise is just a kid who cant be pleased.
I lagged more than I did in phase 1, infact more then I have ever. I was rubberbanding, dieing cause of lag, couldn’t do any thing for 10mins. The event itself was annoying: 2 waves of reinforcements gah. And the lionguard blew us up. 3hrs on this…
I had no problems other than phase 1 bugs.
People are complaining just to complain.
The end of today’s event created an MMO buzz unlike anything I’ve been a part of, mainly for one reason: EPIC LOOT IN A GIANT CHEST! Nice call, shake up the economy, and give us what we want. Made the 3 hour event that much better and “worth it”. Our guild of 400+ across 2 OTG guilds was buzzing, big time.
And you can believe, it is gonna make every one want to be there for the next one.
Thats exactly how I see, the events could have used some fixes and tuning, but overall it was very fun, told a story and had a grand finale that was worth doing it.
Lets hope they see this as a success and deliver more of it. Practice makes perfect so I would assume the next event of this type to have less issues (the event did have problems on every day, mostly lag related).
To me, it seems for the OP , the story starts at “There was a threat, and we physically dealt with it in game!” and nothing beyond that in terms of the story behind the Karka or anything else.
A sense of gravitas towards the island because of the one-time event? Yes.
A sense of immersion with the story? Not so much.
All in all, having participated in the event from beginning to end..we had a blast. Phase 1 did have the monster lag issue, that was addressed already and isn’t worth getting into here. However, it was fixed (at least for us) for phase 2 and 3. Each part of the event from a lore perspective was very enjoyable, and the art and design teams for the Zone, FotM, and the karka themselves did an amazing job overall. I for one enjoyed this weekend very much.
