I chase AP’s only for the chests. (And mainly because I now need lots of Badges of Honor, and getting them from WvW seems so slow!)

I have to agree with the OP. I am sick of doing dailies but feel I must to be competitive.

Please allow us to select PVE or PVP dailies upon reset (or whenever we log in) and let us do ONLY FIVE of them. Double/Triple the point values. I want to be spending less time doing dailies and more time PLAYING things I enjoy!

I would like to know what my actual rank # is, not “10%.” 10% is a HUGE range, from the numbers i’ve seen…

Almost at 11.5k is nothing to sneeze at, I don’t mind not being in the top 1000.. it’s still more than almost everyone I have met in the game.

I’m rank 170 or so right now, I agree the daily is very tedious and unfun to an extent even if you want to have a high rank and the only way to maintain a high rank is to hope others quit, give up, or take a break.

I could have potentially been one of the very top ranks in the game minus the full points from HoM gw1 because I am a veteran launch player and did completely my daily everyday. However after seeing the infinity achievements + super high screenshots during last Halloween (2012) I only did 5 dailies per day and stopped doing my sPvP for a few months cause I figured I could salvage a zillion points if I wanted except they put a cap on salvaging putting me behind the leaders by around 1500 achievement points as I couldn’t get back the poins I missed. While that’s my fault, ANET should have been more clear on the system and their intentions with the points and they can be blamed too.

The achievement system is flawed for new players as it gives too many one time earned points like living story and the daily/monthly. This system doesn’t need to grow anymore and I agree with the OP because it already sucks taking two hours+ a day to completely my daily as it is and certain changes not long ago sucked like World Ranker, that one change makes WvW 10x longer as you need 10,000 wxp than to capture 5 camps or kill 5 dolyaks/sentries which is around 500-1,500 wxp to complete than the other achievements so there is a lack of time balance within the dailies. One day it may take 1.5 hours, the next day it may take 3 hours.

Some other things I’ve thought about over the past couple days…

- To those who insist a daily AP cap would hinder their progress to their next reward chest: There is already a cap in place. Today it happens to be 19. Changing that so that it’s EASIER for you to get the max available in a day shouldn’t be discouraging. If you need to push points for a chest, why are you relying on a single point from a fractal or story dungeon or discovering jps?

I may add that back in february 2013 the cap was a lot higher (25 for pve alone iirc, so at least 29 with pvp), right before Anet introduced the current system which had only 9 options at that time. The changes we are discussing here aren’t so drastic in comparison.

There weren’t any achievement chests then. If they were, you’d have heard a much, much stronger opposition to the idea.

I have 10k+ achievement points and I never, not even once grinded an achievement. I just play the game the way I like to play it. Almost never 100% living story achievements, never 100% daily. Most of the time i’m just playing some wvw with friends, leveling some alts with friends or doing tpvp. And the achievement points flow naturally.

I do get it, there is people who needs to have it all. That ain’t my problem though. More achievement categories in my daily will mean that there is more stuff I can do to complete it. If I’m up for it. If I’m not, my life will go on pretty much the same. While having a decent playtime (around 2,5h/day), I feel i’m still pretty casual.

You guys should seriously stop complaining if Anet adds something to the game..you ain’t forced do play any new content, it’s a kitten game..

My achievement points are almost 12500 and can honestly say that his is getting really frustrating. I do not care about my place on the leaderboards nor do I think that they mean something.

I never cared for dailies or montlies until the laurels were introduced. Some of them got done by accident, others remained empty.
I never cared for achievement points until the chests and acount wide rewards were implemented.

Now that the excitment about the zenith skins is long gone…what remains?

Throwing 20 random sigils in the forge for an AP?
Hunting chickens in Queensdale?
Afk-ing in Southsun survival?

Doing dailies is mundane and boring and often feels like a chore. But it is useful when leveling a character and brings in some ok rewards. I am not oposing a variety of dailies. If more are added, better for the people. However, the dailies are already rewarded by laurels, exp, karma, coins, luck , random black lion stuff. I do not think they should be rewarding achievement points. The achievement points should be kept for the Living Story and the original slayer, weapon master, dungeons etc.

This way the completionists will not feel forced to spend hours getting all done for a daily before they can start enjoying the game.

An alternative is 5 per day per account – the same ammount that it takes to actually get the daily.

It already does not make sence that you get the same amount of points for hunting down 100+ dolyaks in wvw as for killing frogs 10 days in a row….

Several people are saying this, but do you have reasoning to back this up? I like to hear peoples suggestions, but post just seem like empty suggestions that they either didn’t think about, or do not actually care. (or a few that secretly care and wish they were on the boards, but as they are not, wish that no one is).

Capping dailies isn’t the answer, as it disadvantages new players.

Those who want to just do 5 dailies every day should not be effected at all.

With this in mind, the solution is to remove the day limit on earning APs from dailies. At the end of every day, unfinished dailies should be put in to the permanent section.

In the next patch, find the person with the highest daily APs and populate that amount of permanent achievements to each player. Randomly complete an individuals permanent daily catagories up to the amount of daily APs they have. Then from that point on each person can earn those missed points by completing those catagories.

For example: a new player today should have a general kills achievement with 57 tiers, up to 2850 kills. And an events in Shiverpeaks achievement with 57 tiers, up to 228 events.

Any missed dailies for content that is no longer available would add tiers to a general category that isn’t normally a daily. Such as Kill Skelk 0/10.

Doing this would even the achievement playing field, and would lessen burnout and would no longer punish people for missing a day (something which cannot ever be done due to the disproportionate APs of dailies). It would also give a significant exp boost to new players, who do not have the benefit of populated zones.

Addressing limited daily, or time gated, material is almost another issue to be addressed. I can see your reasoning behind this as well, and this could be something for you to suggest to them. For me, I feel a little rework to their current system might be the best, most likely way of making a change.

That would be way too easy to catch up. Killing 2850 things in a day is no challange for example.

Ha ha. 8h/day? If only. Several months ago I did some calcultions of the world 1st guy (he is no longer on the radar, I assume he experienced a burnout and quit) using 3rd party tPvP stats tracking site. Considering how many tournament matches he did since the release of the game till that time, I roughly calculated that he spends on average around 7 hours each day doing tPvP only without counting PvE, WvW and other content. You are looking at someone who pretty much only sleeps, eats and plays GW2. There is always a handful of those people around. Becouse once you do your dailies, you can only differentiate yourself by doing some of those extremely grindy things like killing 1,000,000 dolyaks etc. This is why I dont even think about being 1st on the leaderboard. I am not going to waste my life chasing dolyaks in WvW as a full time job. So again, it is really not about leaderboards. Dailies are an entirely separate issue with their “do it now or never mentality”. Its just a cheap and cruel way of exploiting compulsion of completionist players. I would really like Anet to make some statement about their goals behind this philosophy. Becouse this subject keeps boomeranging since over a year and I didnt see any acknowledgement from their end yet.

Boy I could have a discussion all kitten day about how some achievement point rewards are not equivalent to others. WvW achievements are typically a good example of AP not being representative of the time required to complete. If I can get 10AP within 1-1.5hrs doing dailies, but need literally weeks to get the same 10AP from a WvW achievement, something is wrong with the system.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

Anet added completely broken achievements to an already half-broken system. Completing those 4 achievements takes more time than it took to complete all the dailies pre-patch. I understand they want to give more AP to the PvP players but using dailies was a bad idea imho, and the numbers are completely out of touch with the whole daily system

My dear AP Hunters friends. 2 months has gone. Obviously, our voices and suggestions were not heard by Anet. And Im curious how you adapt to new dailies? Speaking of myself, I stopped “all dailies” hunting. I do quantity only for Laurel and Mystic Coins now. But im think if i really need it: i have ~440 laurels and you can buy stacks of Mystic Coin from trade post.

Dear leaderboard grinders,
Welcome to gw2, where the casual really does reign supreme. I am your casual liaison. I am here to tell you that I am happy with allllll the extra things I can do for my daily, because that’s all I really care about. To go along with that, I love having so many choices to get my daily done it doesn’t feel like bashing my face against a wall. I am sorry that your experience is ruined, but this is for the greater good of the game and less for the kittening match that achieving top leaderboard status is.

I consider myself a completionist in most games. Normally I would use the achievements for this.

But here I can’t do that because the achievements are never ending. They need to be finite for that to work, something I can get 100% on.

I like how the daily and monthly achievements are split from the permanent ones, when you hover over it, because for the completionist in me the daily and monthly points don’t count, and neither do all the permanent ones that are no longer attainable by everyone.

It would be great if the permanent achievements could be further split into ‘permanent’ and ‘historical’. That way the attainable permanent ones could be used as a progress bar to 100% the game.

Keep all the other points, as ways to earn laurels and achievement chests and all that, but for achievements I need something that can actually be completed, and will not go away.

I’ve still been doing the dailies for PvP. I think I missed 2 out of the 50+ since they introduce the 8 wins… I literally rage quit those days due to 4v5s and bad games.

Still, this isn’t sustainable for me and my other friends who are all 18k AP+. Many times we discuss about quitting and it’ll probably happen eventually.

I think people understand.

My brother will keep checking the refrigerator door and tap to make sure it’s closed. He’ll even wake up several times everyday to make sure it’s closed.

People make fun of him. But they don’t realize mentally that’s who he is. He went to see a psychologist about the issue but the psychologist says there’s nothing wrong with him. As long as he don’t cause harm to other people or himself.

Some people just have the urge to do those type of things. As long as it isn’t harmful. I think it is perfectly fine. Consider I’m a game addict myself who plays 10 hours of video game everyday. I have nothing more to say. That’s just who people are.
