I always do that, and for inappropriate guild names, too (as this is what i was told to do by an ArenaNet employee over in this thread).
However, i still see many of those reported guilds running around with their names or acronyms unchanged. For example, there’s a guild on my server (Dzagonur) with a harmless name. I don’t remember the exact name and it’s german anyway, but their acronym is [BDSM]. Isn’t that against the rules? Even if it stands for something else and the actual name is indeed appropriate?
Or what about guild names like “Eir’s Awesome Boobage” or “Horny Milfhunters” ? I’ve really seen those (though i’m not sure if they’re still around).

My other question is, can i get punished or even banned for filing too many reports? I usually try to only report people with really inappropriate names, but in some cases i’m not sure if it’s actually against the rules. Considering the game has an age rating of 12 here in Germany (and similar ages worldwide, as far as i know) it’s better safe than sorry, right?

Now, when we come back down to reality, both RP names and funny Pun names take time to come up with if the person is putting any thought or time into them. I can come up with a handful of stupid puns easy as I can a handful of random sounding names … doing neither one makes you better.

To people who appreciate creative, punny names and come ready to have fun with that, then those names are great. Honestly – as a long time roleplayer – I can say that some of the rp crowd really need to lighten up … if you don’t like the Sylvari “Roamin Noodle”, because it breaks your immersion, don’t try to rp with her. Chances are she didn’t come in planning to rp … though maybe, just maybe if you take a chance and reach out and try … maybe you’ll convert her and she’ll want to roleplay. Or maybe she’ll be a great person OOC and you’ll be better for having met her.

Those people who love Racially Appropriate RP names will appreciate those names allot more than people who don’t care. It’s those people the names are picked to relate to and impress – they’re the target audience, not the guy or girl what hates rpers. Though I think anyone can appreciate a genuinely good name. For these people the act of making a name isn’t a ten second verbal spill … they probably do mean something, fit some image, convey the impression they want without having to even talk. Their nametag is the first thing that sells them to other rpers, afterall.

And I can guarantee nobody else has my name; it may not be “the best”, but it is exactly her.

There’s no reason this thread has to, or even should, become some kind of masculine Name Wagging contest … you were both out of line.

Of course nobody else has your name.

Names are unique across the entire game.

Even Xxx Sephiroth Xxx is unique in this game.

I have 6 serious names and 2 fun names after famous people I like. Anders Fridenn (had to add the extra N. I can’t believe someone in GW2 besides me knows who that is) and Gordon J Ramsay. I can’t believe I got to name my character that. I was so happy. I named my pet since Ramsay is a ranger “Jean Phillip”.

My serious names are all fairly lore bound. Keep in mind… I like Ravens.

I prefer names that fit the lore and game, since I like to feel immersed. It’s impossible these days, of course, since the maturity level of players couldn’t get any lower.

So, sorry, I don’t find many of these to be “best” by a long shot.

Some are marginally amusing but the thing is, they reflect the fact that the people that the people who create them don’t care about the game, or the genre, or the effect they have on other players.

I agree with this person.

Having said that I can’t help but chuckle a little when I see a creative name (very few in this thread), for example whoever mentioned “Taylor Swiftclaw” That’s pretty fantastic….

It’s a little sad that this thread is basically a bunch of people reporting themselves. I think about 70% of the names given violate the naming policy.

That said, I really like puns that could be mistaken for a real name. A necro named Moira Bidley, for example (you guys can have that one, I named my necro something else)

I suspect that some of the more clever adaptations of names may get a bit of a pass on the naming policy I really love it when people come up with clever names, it is such a nice change from the juvenile ones.

What’s inappropriate to you is probably not inappropriate to the usual guy, it is just your religious perogative to not like certain words. Telling people to report everything they do not like will make for a messy reporting-system.
