Still the pure fact is that tp can be used by f2p accounts to get gold to other accounts.
If you’re just using the tradepost as a tradepost, you’re not moving gold to a different account. You’re trading.
Well I guess they will have to buy the game, or wait a long time if they want an ascended amulet.
But considering how much coin can be raised by selling or converting the login rewards they had to put the kibosh on it for P4F accounts.

I mean not only that but also why wouldn’t you just create 20 free accounts for yourself to farm the laurels, especially since the rewards can be traded to your main account.
Honestly I feel that they sort of give too much to a free account. Its not a free to play game, meaning not paying gets you all the same content as a paid players, but until HOT drops its pretty kitten close.
Once the expansion is out free trial players will have much more motive to pay up, which is how it should be. Right now though, without said expansion, its basically a free to play game, the restrictions are minor, granted its only going to be about two more months that trial players will get to enjoy all the game has to offer minus daily logins and mailing stuffs.
You’re going to have to stump up some cash to get better gear then.
I do expect that even HOt become free?
Indeed. HoT will become free in future (or included for free in core game) when next expansion (after HoT) will come. People will always have to buy 1 game, or the latest expansion for 50$.
In other words, everything else (expansions from the past) will be given for free, while the latest expansion will cost 50$ and will be considered full access to the game (with no limitations).
@Behellagh Pattern, Most crafted items are buyable for f2p’s which will give a boost to crafters. Nice done Anet.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Achievement_rewards
you can get the amulet probably at 6000 achievement.
I dont’ think it is worth it though. I would rather save it and buy ascended weapon/armor recipe which only cost 5 laurels.
Accessory you can just do guild mission for it. So it is not a big deal.
also wait for the holiday season. Anet usually release daily events which gives laurels. eg christmas.

and if we look at it . most of all f2p gamer will be hooked to buy the game before they even start to worry about how i get asc stuff….
e.g only 2 bags and do fractals . sounds a lot of fun
cant sell my goodies? also sounds very cool
play for free in gw2 = try for free!
in the long term only masochist have fun with their f2p account . we talk about players that do high level stuff (mid/ hig level fractals, best equip e.g) others dont need the asc stuff

No, you don’t understand the tradepost at all^^
Example: I buy on accountA one item for cheap, then on accountB (=f2p acc) all remaining kinds of this item. After that I list on accountA this one bought item for 1.000 gold and buy it with accountB (=f2p acc).
→ AccountA got gold transferred from a f2p account.

Thanks, but we have all seen that. All it says for the TP is “Can buy and sell items from a selected list”. People are looking for what that list is.
But the problem is that there are thousands of items on the TP so any list could be huge. And currently the game API that lets us dump info on all the TP items doesn’t have a field that shows P4F restricted otherwise list would have been done already.
Now it’s nice that they show P4F players what items they can’t get as another incentive to buy the game.
RIP City of Heroes
I think it’s save to say that f2p can only buy/sell materials and crafting items from tp (+agony infusions). I couldn’t find even one “not crafted” item that I could buy/sell as f2p for the last hour searching at the tp.

Yup. Though whether they make HoT a part of the F2P accounts is something we do not know. My guess is that all expansions will never be a part of the free accounts.
I sat in queens dale for an hour and saw around 50. I added each one to my friends list and labeled them as “new 1” “new 2” etc.
Why did you do that?
Botters, a MMO player who uses a bot program to play the game automatically. Let’s assume botters already use hacking software to level 2 characters to lv80 and farm in several maps until full diminishing return. Then sell proceeds to merchant ( free account cannot sell to TP). Whatever seems small at the beginning would accumulate rather quickly as they can run 24/7 and create thousands of free accounts.
And free account, with limited access to TP, “can buy and sell items from a selected list.” For example, this selected list may include 4 slot bags. No one buy 4 slot bag from TP, so it would be really convenient for gold laundering. botters and gold sellers could use fully unlocked account to list 4 slot bags at 250 gold and easily transfer gold into economy when free accounts buy those 250 gold bags( this gold transfer is very attractive even when including TP tax).
It is just one example, and this practice works for whichever items on that selected list as long as free account has access to buy in TP.
I sat in queens dale for an hour and saw around 50. I added each one to my friends list and labeled them as “new 1” “new 2” etc.
Why did you do that?
I add new players and whisper them if they need help when I dont feel like doing aything else.
I label them using the nickname function so I dont forget who they are/were.
Ya me and my friend though about that. But I don’t think you can select which item you wanna buy. They gonna need to buy all the bags until you reach the 250 gold one.
Of course there will be items in the TP that nobody sell, but then the F2P will have to get some of those. Not a pratical way of doing thing.
Or maybe I’m wrong and you can chose to buy the item at 250 gold even if the same item can be bought a lower price.
Thanks for the tip.

Nope you are right.
You have to buy out the market first
and i guess at this moment anets system push the panic button and they will look at this anonmaly. Little bit like exchange supervisory authority at suspicious finance deals ^^
(edited by Zaron.1987)
i doubt many have joined and i doubt many will stay.
why?
because of the stated the game is in right now.
everything is just one big exploit hunt.
learn how to exploit everything the most (if you like such gameplay my suggestion would be to just hack the system and be done with it, ofcouse that also takes effort which is what exploiters is trying to avoid -.-) and do everything SUPER easy mode, because it takes next to ZERO skill to complete anything when exploiting and breaking the game mechanics as people do now….
people play games to feel challenged while having a fun gameplay and feeling that they archieved something and got rewarded for it.
it is very few people that find a game enjoyable for very long once they start using the “cheat code” to make EVERYTHING insanely easy and trivial…
the extreme exploiting at this point have gone out of hand….
as an example i did a handfull of dungeons today; i purposefully avoided any dungeon calling for meta, speedrun, or explicit setup.
yet i didn’t get a single run where people didn’t:
1: run pass 90% of all the mobs.
2: bugged out bosses so they couldn’t even attack or their skillsets became useless.
it was absolutely no fun at all….
i might as well have used hacks which just gave me a reward and a little “Congratulation, you got ZERO skills, but you know how to exploit the system and break the game mechanics” which would have given more joy since at least i wouldn’t have to sit there looking at “bugged” content being abused to a degree that would make the ncsoft team on aion Perma-ban you for the extreme abuse….
-.-
i am choked of how much of a different there is on how devs view gameplay within the same firm…
comming from so many ncsoft games; knowing exploiting will be punished not rewarded, and then landing in gw2 where exploiting is not only rewarded but it doing the content as intended is punished by the devs (all rewards was balanced to match time for the exploiters)…
it is only 1 stop from stating flat out that people are allowed to just hack their system as long as they just pay a fee, or just selling streight out pve hacks themselves….
which i wouldnt even be so supriced over since they are already encuraging the selling of services that equals to simply hacking a dungeon and instantly get the reward with zero effort on your part (just rl cash bought gold)..
you do not need to think for long to understand how big an issue this have become and how much it will/have alienate the Vast majority of mmo players….
it is truly sad in my oppinion

Wow…I just spent my pocket money for the month on this game and now they make it F2P? This is ludicrous. And we have to pay full price of the HoT as well despite buying the first game? GW2 WILL lose players fast.

Wait, I’m confused.
Let me see if I got this straight.
Account A (Full account) buys say 1 green item. Then Account B (Free to play account) buys up the rest of the (potentially) thousands of stock. Then Account A lists that item (plus fees) for X amount of gold. Then account B buys that item, and account A gets the gold from the sale.
In theory it MIGHT work, however, that would assume that no one else was listing, or buying that item during the time of the transaction.
So what would happen if during the time between transactions of account A and B people list that particular item, for a much smaller amount? Or someone else buys the item listed for X gold instead of account A? (Thinking that for whatever reason that item is extremely popular, as they just watched the entire stock dry up, and speculate that the price might climb)
Also that’s assuming account B has the funds to do that to begin with. (To buy out complete inventories of anything, and to be able to buy the item account A listed). And assuming that Anet won’t suddenly notice that the entire supply of any particular item has suddenly been bought at once, and not take action. IIRC, JS said that people have tried to manipulate the market that way, but were “taken care of”.

Not likely.
As you may know, the F2P accounts are highly restricted. Basically an extended demo. Whereas you get the full game. And everyone has to buy HoT regardless, if they want to play it.

I think it would be more like RMT full rights Account A, the real account, buys up all the inventory of an item and puts one up for sale at an astronomical price that the P4F Account B can buy with all their bot generated gold. Then Account A can post all the old inventory back at a break even amount. P4F gets an item at a huge mark up while emptying all it’s gold.
Now the trick would be keeping all the other supply off the market until the P4F account can buy the item that Account A posted. Otherwise some savvy, aware TP guru could snipe the transfer buy undercutting the sale item.
RIP City of Heroes
You’ll notice that the items available are easily obtainable and the trading post is anonymous. If RMT wants to try to trade through the TP, our active TPers are going to start intercepting their 250g trades for fun and profit really fast. After that happens there’s no way for the RMT to confirm whether or not their buyer got their gold. The buyers can continue to ask for gold over and over if they want. When all this goes down the market for RMT becomes exteremely unstable, I look at it and giggle like a schoolgirl.

Yes, but one thing is wrong. Not it “might” work, it works since month^^ Of course it is stupid to do that if you only have your account and a f2p. Think like this:
A botter (or goldseller) can create hundreds or thousands f2p accounts, they just don’t have to care about 15% tp. Same with the amount of items. Check some items out^^ There are items that can be bought/sold by f2p accounts and are only like ~30 available.
If you trade a lot on the tp, then you will find out that some items like matierials are probably sold/bought by thousands or millions a day. Items like weapons (white, or blue) more like 5 a day with luck^^
Most important these deals happen in seconds, there is like no way a real human can interact/interrupt these. If you want to watch some leftovers from such deals then you can check it at ALL time via the TP right now!!
Just do following: Open TP, click on Buy item, at the sorting function click at rarities (for example) masterwork, order the whole by price (decending!): → right now are like 50 green masterwork weapons on the TP for 20gold+ and around 10 for ~100g+-.
→ These are all leftovers from such deals

All it takes is one undercut by one copper to break this system. The account that wants to buy that 250 gold item has to buy the 249.99 item before it first. This might possibly work once but after that it’s not going to work with so many people watching the trading post for sudden increase of price and a chance to unload a ‘mithril axe’ for truly obscene profits.

Exactly, it’s highly dangerous. While the notion of using the P4F accounts to drain the market of an item so the RMTs can sell one for a large markup to anyone breaks if the item is something with a lot of trade volume. And I suspect the normally pricier items with low trade volume are off limits for P4F accounts.

So, I’m not new to Gw2 and I’m not using a free-to-play account,
but my friends are now joining the game because of it becoming free.
The thing is, for me, and some of the friends that have seen me playing the game WvW is one of the most exciting things to do.
And we would like to do some WvW together, also we would like to do the jumping puzzles in there.
But we can’t because of the level restriction.
I now there has to be a very good explanation for this restriction, as I think all the other restrictions are well thought and necessary.
But I don’t see why WvW should be level restricted, I mean sPvP is not right?
Just wanted to know what’s the reason for that restriction
Match manipulation comes to mind. As well as trolling.
Think about it. Enemy server roll up a bunch of free accounts, and select your server. Then joins your your BL, creating a large queue. Now, they have free access to everything with little to no opposition. Because real players can’t get in.
At least thats my thoughts
It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
The concern is that since WvW maps are population limited and that there is only one set of them unlike PvE maps which are duplicated as populations in those maps grow, that P4F players can clog up a WvW map as a form of griefing.
This limitation at least postpones such a tactikittenil the PvE account has one level 60 character at which time all their characters can join.
Edit: kitten filter strikes again, this time the word “tactic” before the word “until”
RIP City of Heroes
(edited by Behellagh.1468)
because during tourneys, or even just for reg kittenry, people from W1 would create a ton of free accounts for W2, then join up in the W2’s servers to prevent any of W2’s actual players from getting in to fight off W1
long n short, prevents griefing
gold sellers can go to wvw and spam spawns and auto whisper people loading into the map or wping to spawn. Doing so presumably logs their xxxx.xxxx acount info and bolsters gold spammer list of people to whisper.
gold sellers AND new players can go to wvw and take up too much space and cause servers to receive an unfair handicap because too many noobs
That makes a lot of sense,
I knew there had to be a good explanation.
Well its kind of a shame for the people that just want to play,
but yeah.. I understand now.
Question solved then
Hello, just one question.
So I bought GW2 right after it had been released for 40 euros and now I wonder if I have to buy the HoT for cca 45 euros again. Or what is the difference between a player who downloads the core game for free and the player who bought the game in the past ? They both have to pay for HoT if they want to play it, but then I will pay 80 euros for HoT and the newcomer only cca 45 euros. Am I right ?
be a good friend and give them a copy
Yes you have paid more, but you also had the chance to play for 3 years if you got it at release. During those 3 years the devs had to maintain your account data etc, but that’s not even the important part for you as a player. You had a chance to play alot of stuff that new players will never see. Digital goods always lose value over time because making a copy of the product to sell doesn’t cost as much as building furniture or something like that. Another thing to consider is that if new players had to pay this much we wouldn’t see many new players at all and the game would eventually die. Having just 1 price they have to pay means we will keep getting new players in the future.
Hello, just one question.
Actually, three.
So I bought GW2 right after it had been released for 40 euros and now I wonder if I have to buy the HoT for cca 45 euros again.
If you want to play HoT content, yes.
Or what is the difference between a player who downloads the core game for free and the player who bought the game in the past ?
Restrictions. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/play-for-free-today/
They both have to pay for HoT if they want to play it, but then I will pay 80 euros for HoT and the newcomer only cca 45 euros. Am I right ?
You are right. However, you had access to the first three years of the game and the opportunity to unlock all the Living Story for free. A new player will have to pay to unlock that— or in some cases, will never see that.

Ok, you made me really laugh.
I’m listening, trying to prove to me how.I suppose you reading the actual restrictions are too much to ask?
It is precisely the current restrictions, which make me assert immense economic problem that will result ‘.
Limitations BEFORE the letter “our president” were right and at most criticized for pettiness.
Here we are faced with a problem that overturns’ the economy of the game.
Allow from “old” player Gw 1 and 2, I am baffled the decision.
And that limits me to buy the expansion.
Since I have three accounts whose principal and ’CE edition …..
I do expect that even HOt become free?
Possibly..If you want to wait for the next expansion.

-You’re not buying something again. You bought the GW2 core game. Now you would have to buy the expansion if you want the content that comes with it. Generally expansions like this aren’t given for free.
-Someone who bought the game in the past had access to the game from the time of purchase until now. F2P began 3 years after the game was released and has restrictions.
-Both players pay exactly the same amount for the expansion. Someone who bought the core game in the past will have spent more money on the franchise, but they also had more time to play.

So, arenanet, really quick to push that pre-purchase…I hope you’re just as excited about my disinterest in buying gems.
I’m not…upset…I am a little scared. There was a poster some time ago that called for this very exact thing. MMO’s come and go and that most of those MMO’s have this tendency to become free to play (by way of some trial) just before that inevitable…no longer a viable MMO.
Consider, Perfect world and Neverwinter…both great to play…both will never see nor have seen a penny out of my wallet.
I guess…I’m disappointed—god I really wish I could find that post where some user was mentioning this VERY exact thing.
Gw2 will eventually turn permanently free top play and it will just kind of be..one of THOSE MMO’s. It’d be like if Paypal released an MMO featuring all new paywall content.
I mean the good thing is most of the crap you can directly and listlessly buy with gems everyone has to as well but…I think it’s quite funny how ArenaNet begs to differ regarding its “business model” but it’s actually pretty F***ing worse for those of us who continue to play…over time.
They haven’t changed anything except instead of making the new players pay out initially they displaced that on to existing players and reward them english style cookies (dry/crispy) and no milk. :/
If you have 10 expansions of GW2 the person who’s played and PAYED for all 10 of them B****es would have spent 500-600 dollars while the new guy hanging out and just picked up the game for 50-60 bucks just got all ten of them for 50-60 bucks.
It doesn’t seem like people are looking out far enough to see just how WRONG this is. I’d much rather just have a subscription and have a well tailored game versus all this Bull**** to try and finagle money from it’s players left and right just to have the ball, forget about getting and keeping it rolling, that’s a whole other struggle.
But like I said…I really hope ArenaNet is just as excited about my not spending money on Gems. F*** a bunch of that noise. It’s hard for me to want to monetarily support a seemingly dying MMO.
Free2Play spelled backwards is scam. A hard free trial, is ok that has a definite end.
But just letting players turn tricks all in the streets…no charge? Nope
So quick to judge. How about if you wait to see what happens? So far,
- The TP hasn’t exploded.
- The gem store is offering the same items as ever, including discounts and some coveted (and not so-coveted) items
- Early zones & PvP are getting fresh blood, just as we expected.
- HoT is scheduled for release in less than two months.
What exactly sounds “dying” or “near dying” about that? What about that causes you to want to play some other game instead?
tl;dr if you don’t want to buy gems, don’t buy them. No need to make up an entire fantasy to justify it.
