that sucks…

I’ll probably end up quitting GW2 for good then once it gets out of hand.

If they do it once you know it won’t stop.

I didn’t have a lot of time when I responded to the first part of your post, and I have more time now…so explain to me.

edit: on further reflection I’ve been doing the same thing you have, arguing about use of a term instead of the real issues, so I’ll cede the point — not because I agree that the arbitrary adaptation of a term needs to stay locked in stone, but because there are more important issues to discuss.

If we don’t agree on terms, no argument is even possible. If you say gear treadmill and I simply can’t accept the term because of my understanding of what it means, then we can’t go to Anet and say don’t have a gear treadmill.

Vertical progression by itself doesn’t make that in my mind. And since Anet hasn’t defined the term either, if you want to stop them from doing something, you have to talk in language they understand.

I’m pretty sure they don’t see this as a gear treadmill, that’s what I’m saying. The probably do see it as time gating and grind though.

All they’re doing is completing the tier. Considering they still consider Rare viable, and they aren’t ramping up the challenge, you should be fine. You won’t get stranded like in WoW.

I dont kniw about you, but I got bored on www and pvp. It is time for them to add something new, and finally some progression.

It is not likr youll complete o overpower your enemies with such small status increase.

Staying a whole year with the same gear is very bad imo…

Sure we can, we just say, “Do away with Ascended gear.” (Yes, I know they won’t.) Whether some people express unhappiness about a treadmill, others about grind, and still others about time-gating, what’s the common denominator? Read through the hang-ups on terms and see what people are really upset about.

The big thing that ppl seem to fail to see in all of this that there no other games out there with out a treadmill and are still an mmorpg. There new games but in time they too will get some type of treadmill the fact that this is an issue in GW2 show that GW2 is a step above all mmorpgs to date and more then likely for the foreseeable future. (In games where there are 3 way class systems you NEED a treadmill to keep things fresh and if a player is not up to part in that treadmill then they must fall back and work on the step they missed in there gear.)

Hm.

Time to time i return to forums to search for inspiration to get back to guild wars 2. I really had a blast back then i was playing but then it just ran out things to do.

Sadly all i find every time i’m back are topics like this one which destroys my hope that something has actually changed and Anet stopped crapping over their game like pigeons.

As i see they havent.

Well out for another month or so.

GuildWars 2 is good game with bad management.

The issue is that all the pre-launch publicity led the people who do not like gear progression to believe that GW2 would be the one game that would cater to them. So things have changed, and even if GW2 is still better than those other games, there’s the feeling of betrayal because people made assumptions based on the advertising. Dashed expectations get people upset, no matter if you’re talking about a game, or anything else. There are fripping riots if peoples’ favorite football team loses an important game, especially if the fans think the referee stole the game from them.

As i see they havent.

Well out for another month or so.

Perhaps instead of seeing other people’s opinions you should like you know try it out for yourself?

Seriously its a free game why would anyone see if they like the changes based on forum posts?

I mean what do you have here? 50 or so people some arguing in favor some arguing against arenanet’s handling of ascended gear which started being introduced like a year ago. You’re going to base your opinion on a subset of those 50 people? How does that make sense? There is a far far far greater number of people playing and enjoying the game which will not come in this thread to share their opinion.

Just last weekend Arenanet said more and more people are playing the game. They have an increase in player counts as well as average time players play and thats in summer a time when they claim player activity decreases across the board. On the forum are you expecting to see topics like.. Wow the new patch is awesome I am now playing 5 hrs per day instead of 3 hrs. Or a topic like Ascended weapons? Great I’ve been waiting from them since November when Arenanet started introducing ascended gear. Me and my friends are now back and playing again. No thats not going to happen, people who enjoy the game rarely if ever bother to express their satisfication on forums, they just play and enjoy the game. What you’ll have on a forum is someone angry with the game because of a change they dont like. Like say ohh ascended weapons. They come to the forum already angry and argue how this is going to destroy the game and how everyone already left because everyone in their guild was against it and is not playing any longer.

bottom line, do as you wish, I just dont think your approach is very effective. If you enjoyed the game at any point that game hasnt change in the least in terms of mechanics or how it worked. The only thing that changed is now we get new content every two weeks which pretty much makes it impossible to run out of things to do.

Oh and one more thing, when you come again next month I can tell you right now you’re not going to find a happy forum. Thing is Gw2 is a game aimed at many different types of people… Casual, hardcore, vertical progression, those who do not want vertical progression, those you like cosmetics, mini pets etc.. etc.. Different content releases try to provide content for different people. last update we had content for those who like to play in the open world and farming… that made people who hate dislike farming and zerg (even though content was designed to fail in a zerg.. but player still decided to do it) unhappy. Today we’re getting an update for those who like jumping puzzles / Super adventure box, crafting and vertical progression… that will make people who dislike that sort of thing unhappy. The update after that will be for those who like a challenge , co-ordinated team play etc.. that will make players who arent that skilled unhappy. But does that mean that every update is horrible? no because some people love farming (you insta teleport to an invasion and there are already overflows… multiple overflows!) Some people love JP, some thing SAB is the best thing in this game even!, dome people crave a challenge and co-ordinates team play is something that this game does need. You’ll see plenty of people arguing against what they dislike about a particular update. Sometimes you see a thankyou thread on how amazing an update is but no matter how long away you stay I can guarantee you the negative topics will always outnumber the positive topics even when the new content is played by a sea of players at the same time.

Anet has already told us that they wanted this lvl of gear in the game before the game was release but they didnt know how to put it out so they are slowly adding it to the game and believe me they wont go no higher also the stats from exotic to ascended are not as big as ppl think and ascended wont be fast to get like exotics.

The way they are puting this weapon and armor set in is very good since they are now making crafting worth doing now .

another thing. One of the core things of mmos is grind. all mmos have it no matter how much they say they dont want it. Its the type of grind that makes ppl not want to play some mmos. gw2 has no strong lvl grind, no basic mmo gear grind no faction grind no hard daily grind no really hard pvp grind. All the grind gw2 has is very small and u all are making a big deal of it. Progression makes mmos strong and without it the game becomes boring. Remember WoW grows when they bring new content to the game ppl want progression we need the grind to keep playing cuz if it didnt have that grind or progression the game would be dull and boring.

Look at spvp the only grind it is the ranks and those are not that pushy to get unless u want a look in spvp other than that spvp is just meh and the same is with wvw we have the wvw ranks and points and have to play to get points which is a grind.

really i could go on and on with my back typing and whatnot about grind in the game but u should see the picture and if u dont im sure anet over looks u sometimes. have a nice day and enjoy the patch cuz sab is back for the month

Norn “cows” go moot.

It’s hardly an item spiral if, one year on, they still haven’t released a full set of “next tier” items.

I think you mixed up your words: When you said “hardly” you meant “slowly”.

Yes, it’s an item-spiral. It’s just that it’s turning slowly. On the other hand, obtaining the items takes way more effort and times than in MMOs with faster turning geargrinders.
