took my mesmer into 15-25 area, completed the area at level 25, picked up only 5 items for my class, only 3 of those items I could upgrade to.

This means @ lvl 25, I am heading into a 25-35 area with:
Head: lvl 18
Shoulders: lvl 12
Top: lvl 14
Gloves: lvl 8
Pants: lvl 18
Boots: lvl 14

You should be crafting as well as trying to get good drops. Unfortunately with the dr and nerfed drops it will take you some grind to get what you need for either.

Pretty naturally, there is nothing about loot issues in the splash page for tomorrow’s update. No game that has PR people would allow that; I’m certain.

I assume that they will address the loot issues in the patch notes. Least preferably they will simply ninja loot fixes into the patch without comment.

I trust that they will address the issues one way or the other.

To that end, I am backing up my client in preparation for tomorrow’s patch. Once the patch is live, since the patch notes don’t always appear immediately, we should do our best to test the state of the loot, DR and even the MF systems both in open world and in instanced play.

We’ll see what the verdict is this coming week.

I personally will be watching to see what happens with this patch and loot. If it’s not addressed they’ve lost another lifetime player. Sad these companies have to lose almost all their players before doing something about these issues. D3 comes to mind immediately.

Not that I have anything new to report. I still have no gaming computer to play with. I am using my laptop to run alts around (15-20fps). So even if I did report something it would not really be legitimate since I lag so badly I don’t know what is going on most of the time.
During my time off from playing the main and keeping up with this thread, I began to wonder if this could be server/group related.
I did notice that while playing in a group drops increased in quantity and quality. I got more rares while grouping post lvl 80, than ever levelling to 80 while playing solo. I can’t test it now but others can run with 5 friends soloing DE’s then grouping for DE’s to see the difference.

No one here has really kept track of which servers the problems are occurring. It wouldn’t be hard to simply add in the name of the server you are on at the end of the post. Not that specific servers are an issue but then again we certainly haven’t ruled them out either.
Anyway here’s to hoping for a fix with the new patch. It’s sad that I haven’t missed playing. I log on to finish up the last of my crafting before the cost to do so exceeds any method I have to get gold. The cost of mats alone is depressing and makes me wish I had gone ahead and levelled all the crafts before the jump in prices. If I feel lucky with my dismal fps I’ll run a DE or do a personal story on an alt then log off. DR/RNG loot drops is killing the fun for me.

Well logged in this morning and Claw of Jormag part 1 was going on… SO i decided to drop in and do Jormag. Well, event over, everyone linking all the yellows and stuff they got. I got all blue green and trash. Yet again, discouraged to keep playing this game. Getting so kitten tired of this kitten. SOOOOOO TIRED ANET, FIX IT PLEASE….. Permanent DR is ridiculous and unfair. I haven’t played in days because of work, and first event I do I get crap? UGH!

EDIT: Ran FoTM with full explorer + Explorerer accessories / trinkets / backpiece, 5 pirate runes (50% MF) 1 Noble Rune (10% MF), omnom bar (40% MF) and MF booster from Gem Store (50% MF), Plus Superior sigil of luck, 25 stacks. Same story, greens and blues (except 1 yellow in very beginning), including chests. (I know chests aren’t affected by MF). Around 200% MF seems to have made no difference, while all my group mates were getting yellow rares from all the chests. I got one. It was called “Shield” that’s all, nothing else, just “Shield”. Still think I have perma DR.

I think I am out of the curse for the last few days. After weeks of literally horrible drop rates in mats/rares, I’m getting some acceptable drops. I am not posting here to suggest that there’s no issue, I really think there is. For whatever reason, the curse is not there for me for the last few days. I am seriously not looking forward to getting it back, and putting things into perspective, this is not a perceived problem. I had it for weeks, and now I am showing my rares where others are unable to get them.
I got a 3g+ worth exotic yesterday, I was about to cry in joy. It used to take me 8-10 hours to get that value a week or so ago.
Best luck again to you all until Anet comes up with a less buggy way of fixing things.

Server: Henge of Denravi, and I don’t think I got anything of note from any dragon. I must’ve killed them over dozen times. I just don’t do them anymore.

Does anyone actually notice the lack in drops in general? Last night I went though a couple events in Cursed Shore. At first it was fine, but it wasn’t until half way though that all the enemies I was hitting, and I was hitting a lot of them, wasn’t dropping anything. It was in one of the farming locations, but I only did two of the events.

Idk, maybe I was just unlucky with my 103% MF..

Still lack of drops even after a few weeks of not even bothering to login.

I’m from Stormbluff Isle and I made this account once the prepurchase was up and been playing since pre-release.

Maybe this has to play with something… i know I had the WWW bug aswell [[ No WWW buffs running on self, did not transfer servers or anything and stayed in SBI]] until they fixed it. Hopefully they find what’s actually wrong and they fix it too.

First, MF, in my opinion, does absolutely nothing. Maybe it shuffles loot tables a bit if anything. I salvaged all my MF gear and having at least 2-3 rares per 3 hours if DR doesnt hit me.

Second, you had a clear sign you’ve been hit by DR. Not sure how it works but sometimes if I use lots of AoE I seem to hit DR before I fill my stack of sigil of luck and that’s less than 25 mobs. On the other hand, I sometimes have a lucky streak of drops for hours without seeing more than 15 Porous Bones dropping.

~150 Fractal runs. Over a dozen at 10+ for dailies.

1 Exotic. Ever. From chests. Pink rings on par, but not exotics.

Compare that to the time I’ve spent in regular PvE where I’ve received way more in the exotics received to time spent ratio.

So is something wrong or is the RNG this bad?

Disagree. To me it seems they very carefully said nothing at all that would imply a fix to the DR problem and crappy loot in general. They only upped the drop rate of a specific Mouldy Bag drop (higher level crafting items).

funny post, i only stated there appears to be a change, which you disagreed with then one sentence later proceeded to list a change to the loot.

anyways, i hope they adjusted the loot or the DR if that was indeed the problem for the people who appear to be affected or having an issue with loot drops.

EDIT: already got a molten core from heavy moldy loot bag, I think the loot tables have been adjusted

It does not appear the loot drop fog has been improved at all. I am really getting annoyed that I cannot get decent drops for all the effort I put in. I run usually in 3-5 man groups and solo in between those runs just to harvest.

I still do not see any change and I’ve been getting crappy drops for several months now. It has not improved for me and I now have 3 characters to level 80. I am not motivated to do much else in the game any longer.

I am looking to see what new games are coming out. This one, as great a game as it is, just sucks for loot vs effort issues all the time.

…a little disappointing….it doesn’t look as though open world drops have been addressed nor the issue of veteran/champion/boss chest returns. The only real mentions of loot that I found in the release notes are:

  • In PvE, if a player is awarded loot by killing a creature and the loot is of uncommon rarity or higher, a chest will appear that contains the loot that would previously have been on the corpse. If the rarity of the loot on the creature is lower than uncommon, the loot will remain on the creature’s corpse.
  • The item “Heavy Moldy Bag” has been updated to drop more frequently.
  • Various Risen creatures have had their loot tables updated to provide more varied crafting materials.
  • Melandru Temple Chain – Updated the participation rewards for the event “Defend the Pact interruptor from Risen attacks” to be more consistent with holdout events at other temples in Orr. Players who participate will earn three times the normal event rewards.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-January-28-2013

I will wait for the actual update to be pushed out and do some farming to see what’s what.

Medazolam stated that he saw some indications that they made some changes to loot. This is a promising report, anyway.

Because the November update promised positive changes to Champs/Vets but then the drops were at minimum unchanged (I routinely got no drops from them before Nov) or negatively impacted; we will need to play to find out for sure.

Starting at the top, this is what I noticed:

Patch Notes

Rewards when adjusted down have been increased to compensate.

This doesn’t directly seem to address our issues, however, it might be an indication that ANet found a problem with scaling that was nerfing drops. We will need to keep an eye out for this increase.

Patch Notes
Orr

  • The Risen creatures all across Orr have had their population density adjusted.
    * Areas, chests, and merchants in Orr now offer better rewards.
    * See “World Polish – Orr” below for more details.

Emphasis added to 2nd bullet point: This is a pretty general statement – we will want to spend some significant time in Orr PvE to check for the changes.

As for reducing the amount of Risen in Orr – I really didn’t have an issue with the mob density myself so I’ll miss the target-rich environment. However, people were complaining about it so they addressed it. By reducing the number of mobs, we very definitely should be able to notice an increase in loot value on the mobs that remain.

Patch Notes

  • Updated the participation rewards for the event “Defend the Pact interruptor from Risen attacks” to be more consistent with holdout events at other temples in Orr. Players who participate will earn three times the normal event rewards. (and others)

Several events have had rewards trebled – we’ll want to play those events to check it out.

Patch Notes

  • The item “Heavy Moldy Bag” has been updated to drop more frequently.

I have always been glad when this was dropped for me – but now the price is going to tank on the TP. Those of you who TP these should probably get your Moldy Bags sold now before the prices dive too much.

Please pay special attention to this one:

Patch Notes

  • In PvE, if a player is awarded loot by killing a creature and the loot is of uncommon rarity or higher, a chest will appear that contains the loot that would previously have been on the corpse. If the rarity of the loot on the creature is lower than uncommon, the loot will remain on the creature’s corpse.

Now this looks to me like the major thing we will want to keep track of. It’s almost like ANet maybe suspects that greens and above have been bugged and are putting in a trouble-shooting feature (the chests on normal mobs and above in PvE) to isolate a suspected problem.

We will want to track our chests in these instances. I read this to mean there should always be uncommon or above loot in these chests. Please make sure to report any and all instances where you got one of these chests and there are any common rewards in them OR if there is nothing in them.

Also, many of you might be aware of the loot bag mechanic in WvW and how sometimes the bag falls a distance away from the mob. If this chest mechanic is based on the loot bag mechanic, we will want to make sure to look around for chests before moving on. I really hope they make these chests stand out and have a noticeable “looty” animation on them so they don’t get missed.

Finally: There was a quote I didn’t include regarding the Mystic Forge drops that concerned “inappropriate” results. As we are getting these uncommon loots in PvE chests that we can’t use; it might be a good idea to try feeding them to the MF to see if this might be where ANet wants to drop us rares. This would be a difficult-to-hide place for bots to get their rares, so it’s conceivable that ANet might do something like this. No, I don’t like the Mystic Forge myself either but I think it might be something to check out.

I just played for 2 hours and I also didn’t see a difference. However, I got a green but looted it from the carcass. I didn’t get any of the PvE loot chests (I held the Alt key a lot to make sure I wasn’t missing it.) There were also several (3+) 5-10 minute rollbacks which affected loot and daily progress. I was able to log right back in immediately each time. I killed two vets in Diessa and they dropped nothing – I especially looked for chests on the vets. I didn’t get to finish a champ.

Has anyone seen the chests yet?

Got one of the new chests, nothing special inside. Got a level 80 rare doing the destroyer event. Appears to be much more T6 mats dropping in Orr and the new karma boxes are definatly a gamble, I got a few lodestones but other report getting junk. Also loot a lot of greens in both Orr and the destroyer event. These are just observations from a couple hours so not long enough to make a definitive statement on loot.

Ok more farming in Orr, still getting about 1 or 2 rares every couple events, T6 mats are dropping a lot blood, totem, scale you name it. Also got an exotic bow drop off of a vet mob at the temple of melandru event, other person there got an exotic rifle, off a champ spider. Also lodestone market is dropping big due to two new ways to get them. Moldy bags are everywhere now too.

I farm in full group, as much MF as I can get, kill a lot of mobs every event, etc

Also those new loot chests are pretty hard to see, maybe add some more effects on them?

Did 1 event in Orr.

10 greys
5 blues
0 greens
3 bags
11 skulls
1 rare
0 exotics.

apparently they don’t care about loot. 2 hrs before this i struggled to get more drops then i was getting porous bones. I also killed 5 total vets tonight the only one to drop anything was 1 blue.

In typical fashion the bags i just opened dropped nothing i could use to gear. no bloods, no gossamer.

I think the loot tables in Orr may be set up different than other zones. I ran around wayfarer foothills looking for the new storyline stuff(never found it), and completing my daily. I got way more drops than usual. I didnt get exact numbers but it was very noticable. I even got a lvl 76 rare from a svanir.

I did not see a single chest, everything(including greens and rare) was looted from corpses. Maybe the chests were under the corpses and I just didnt see them?

I then decided to go farm pent and shelter events to see if there were the same increases in drops there. Nope, if anything I got less than usual there. I did however see my first chest there. It had a blue armor in it…..I looted other blues and greens from corpses, unless there were chests under them too. I think I got 8 mody bags in 3 events and I usually get 10 or more per event so the buff in drop rate did not affect me for some reason.

After the patch I logged on with my main. I am still playing on the laptop with a good bit of lag and low frame rate. Went from Lions Arch to Gendarran and completed most of the new daily there. Found the Champion Rock dog in his pen and solo’d him for a single blue item (scale pauldron). Found two more centaur veterans and solo’d them. Got nothing for either of them. I saw one chest that came from a drake hatchling and it had a green longbow in it.
Then I waypointed to Cursed shore to try to run Penitent/Shelter event to see if drops were better there. The lag killed me. First time through I wasn’t in a group and got almost nothing. I attribute this to the lag and the fact it was crowded with people, more than normal.
When I did get a group I ended up with two rares and 12 moldy bags plus 3 greens. All the ‘uncommon’ items from Orr were looted off the corpses not from boxes. The boxes are small but are easily distinguished from a corpse sparkling. I had to give up because my lag and fps was just horrible. ETA for the gaming rig is at least 10days so I can’t offer much unless I am soloing out in PvE land somewhere.
The vets and champs are still giving little to nothing in terms of rewards. And I love the concept of the box in terms of tracking rewards for troubleshooting purposes. However none of the rares and most of the greens I got came from corpses and not boxes.

I didn’t do a great deal last night, but I can tell you the Shatterer chest only returned the usual blues and greens. Less than 10s worth of loot. Did about 6 heart vendors in Blazeridge Steppes and the associated mobs that entails. Very few drops, no little chests. The veteran at the Wreckage of Serenity that appears when you solve the mysterious stones puzzle dropped either a blue or nothing, don’t remember, but it was completely underwhelming. I remember typing in to chat that it was disappointing. I got better drops from killing the ghosts while I ran around finding the stones.

I think it’s safe to say that, with the exception of perhaps certain elements in Orr, this issue remains unfixed for open world PvE in general, veterans, champions and boss chests. I’ll be interested to hear whether drops in dungeons and the resulting chest(s) has improved.

Patch Notes

  • In PvE, if a player is awarded loot by killing a creature and the loot is of uncommon rarity or higher, a chest will appear that contains the loot that would previously have been on the corpse. If the rarity of the loot on the creature is lower than uncommon, the loot will remain on the creature’s corpse.

ANet: Based upon my experience and that of other posters here, it appears the PvE Loot Chests are not working as intended. Would you please look at and if at all possible fix this – also, I can’t help but wonder if the chests are being missed. An update to make these chests more obvious might be needed?

Also – Should we expect all blues + higher; &/or all greens + higher; &/or what in the loot chests? All my blues and 1 green were all looted from the mob corpse and I didn’t see any loot chests at all. I used the Alt key for most of my kills to make sure I wasn’t missing chests.

It seems the issue I was having with drops has been resolved with this patch so far. I feel much better and I hope it continues.

This is good news, Drew, but lets give it a few days to see if Diminishing Returns triggers on you and reduces your drops again. Also – please let us know what your experience is with the PvE loot chests.

Has anyone found a rare or exotic in a PvE loot chest at all?

A final note for this post: The patch notes indicated nothing about Champs/Vets being changed and I can confirm from my personal experience that at least Vets are still dropping nothing.

I have to back-pedal on my report to state that I did see a lot of blue mats dropping from mobs more than I saw before. This was welcome (but kind of late seeing that I’ve already maxed all the craft skills. )

Also, I couldn’t stay at my computer much longer last night so I didn’t clarify what my 2 hour run consisted of. I started in CS and played there for about 45 minutes. I got a lot of porous bones (no more than I got before and probably a few less). I saw a few moldy bags and blue mats also. As far as the mob distro in Cursed Shore, it didn’t feel like it was too nerfed (yay for me and my target-kind-of-rich environment. ) It also seemed like there were more Ori and Ancient Saplings and Orrian Truffles than I have been used to but that could have been a coincidence.

After that long I was beginning to worry that I couldn’t stay on too long so I went to Charr home town and Diessa to see if I could see any of the new content. I did not (and it’s been announced today that this content doesn’t trigger for another couple hours today).

However, I went to the North East portion of Diessa I had never visited before to that Incendio flame charr base. Again, I saw a lot of mats and few junk. Armor drops were mostly white and some blues. I don’t remember seeing any blue Lv 80s (just Lv 76’s which is normal for me in low level areas). I did get some Lv 80 whites which is again normal for me in low level areas — however, I seemed to get 1 or 2 more than usual. But again that could just be coincidence.

Diessa is where I killed the 2 Vets – both Vet Charr Shamans – no drops from either. I have to say that they seemed to be easier than I expected – more like normal mobs. BUT that might have been because I was still wearing my non-MF gear with NO magic find at all making me more powerful.

I tried to solo the Champ Fire Shaman with 2 consumable pets and my elite Warband. Once my pets and warband de-rezzed I was knocked off one ledge and took falling damage and while trying to rez (no lower level mobs around to revive off of) he again knocked me off a 2nd ledge and finished me after me taking more falling damage. I Failed. :/ A player came by and rezzed me at about the same time my guild was calling me to Gendarran to work on the Combo daily. When I got partied up and at [Edit – oops – I mean human starter area (we thought the mobs were too low lvl to get combos in so we moved to Gendarran after about 20 minutes. Turns out the
Combo daily was not working as intended and ANet removed it later.)] I saw in my chat that I missed the opportunity to take down that Champ with the help of 2 or 3 other players. Crud! (err Puppy!, if that gets filtered.)

I had gotten knocked off-line and rolled back about 5 minutes when I was in CS and then not again until I got to Gendarran when my party got rolled back 2 or 3 times more. I got my green here (again, no PvE chests in sight – even for my guildies). I also continued getting blue mats a lot. I also got several greys but not more than and possibly a few less than normal due to the increased blue mats dropping. Then I had to stop b/c of pain. I made my report on this thread last night and stayed on as much longer as I could in case someone wanted to follow-up on my post then logged off.

took my mesmer into 15-25 area, completed the area at level 25, picked up only 5 items for my class, only 3 of those items I could upgrade to.

This means @ lvl 25, I am heading into a 25-35 area with:
Head: lvl 18
Shoulders: lvl 12
Top: lvl 14
Gloves: lvl 8
Pants: lvl 18
Boots: lvl 14
GreatSword: lvl 19
Scepter: lvl 11
Focus: lvl 14
Trident: lvl 20
Spear: lvl20

This is NOT going to be fun … challenging yes, fun no.

Low level blue and green gear is so cheap from the market you should be able to afford it just from vendoring all the trash you find.

Is anyone trying their greens (or even blues) in the Mystic Forge yet?

Edit:
Okay I logged in to throw away some stuff to the MF. I started with the whites (I knew going in I wouldn’t get anything from these). On 2 sets, I got another white and a green.

I had 1 set of blues to burn and got a green back. The rest of the blues I had were sub-level 70 so I didn’t even try those.

Next I did 3 sets of greens (burning some Lv 75+ and 80 magic find gear). I got 2 greens back and one Lv 80 Rare! Yay – I got a rare in I don’t remember how long.

In summary, since I don’t usually play with the MF I don’t know if this is poor, typical or above average but there’s what happened.

I played yesterday for about 3 hours with the new patch.

First i did an escort event in Malchor’s Leap that i didn’t do yet after a little bit of mob-killing , it was good fun and the drops were fine, some blues and one green and about 10 bags, also 2 t6 venom sacs that i didn’t even see before. Nice.
But then, after that first hour or so, i did hit the DR wall and the drops worsened as usual. And i didn’t stay in one spot all the time, no, i was traveling through Malchor’s, and slaying different mobs in the process.
After that, i was bored and i traveled to Sparkfly Fen to see if changing zones matter. Didn’t for me, i was also getting crap out of the enemies, again not staying in one place, moving around the zone.
Then took a break from the mobs and decided to finally bring my armorsmithing to 400, since i saw the yellow silk insgnias in the TP for a really nice 30-40s each. I had around 11G total so no problem.
Finally, traveled to Straits of Devastation and again the drops were terrible throughout.

About veterans: i killed 2 in the escort event and each gave me a blue, also killed the veteran boar in Straits of Devastation and it gave me another blue and some copper.

About the loot chests: i saw only one, it was for the green that i got in the Orr event. Did not get any chest for any of the blues, so it seemed to work fine for me.

As i said in a previous post, why don’t they make karma changeable to laurels? No, instead of that, they have put those rng “jewel boxes” while world drops are untouched, so you are forced to do achievements if you want rare/exotic gear. Everyone go do your daylies! But as i said before, i don’t care about achievs, so thanks but i pass.

I don’t have any problem with rare gear taking time to get, and i also like finding my gear upgrades through drops, i am a lover of action-rpgs after all and enjoy grinding in a relaxed way.
I’m not one of those that “want all the things and right now” as some fanboys say to discredit those of us who express our concerns about how drops have noticeably worsened. If the drops were in the same state as they were pre-Lost Shores patch i wouldn’t have a problem taking my time grinding and doing events to find my rare ( and exotic? ) upgrades, but with the current system i lose all interest and a great game becomes a borefest because of a single dumb mechanic, DR.
One of my goals is getting some t3 human plate set pieces and other Vigil set pieces for my guardian because i love the skins, but i don’t feel like going for it and the price of fine transmute stones right now.

Sorry if i repeat myself too much but i love the game and would like to see it reach its full potential, however this problem ruins it for me and i’m going to play other things until they change it for good.
My server is Baruch’s Bay, btw.

I think my dr i r is messed up. I seem to get greens and blues, and an occasional rare, then nothing but bones, then back to greens and blues.

Not complaining though.

Dragon chests still give blues

I have found that HOW I fight mobs, in a group, impacts my drops.

I play with a ranger and have critical damage mods on almost everything. I eat a 26% MF food. Short bow is my weapon of choice, with chance of quickness on critical hit.

I try to get in first hit, last hit, or a decent % of the total damage to foes. I try to tag as many as possible (1-2 shots each) and get into the middle of the group. Oddly, even limiting my motion (guessing there is a penalty based on reduced precision when in motion) seems to have an effect.

Following this method, I get drops on more than half of the foes. I’ve seen the increase in moldy bags for about a week leading up to the Jan 28 patch.

When I am “late” attacking the mob, and especially when the ally group gets larger, the drop rate collapses to 1-2 sparklies per mob.

In other words, it is HUGELY noticeable.

A 5-10 member sized group at the event tends to produce the best loot volume.

When I am dong everything properly, I get regular rares in my drops, and one exotic in the past 3 days of doing it.

I salvage everything, sell mats and forge runes. My production rate is probably 5-10g for a few hours of work.

Has anyone else looked at the player mob size and hit effectiveness, in this manner?

I participated in the ‘defeat the champion giant’ event in Diessa last night. He dropped nothing. He apparently doesn’t leaven a chest either.

I decided to come to this thread to see if anything had changed after the patch. I am not motivated to really log on now. I am extremely disappointed in how this game is working and think I may end up just leaving to do other things for a bit.

Whether or not I come back will depend upon how Anet handles this idiotic situation. They seem not to be interested in communicating with the player base about issues to alert them that things are being worked on. In my opinion, lack of communication = lack of concern on Anet’s part.

If they can’t be bothered, then neither will I. I like the game play because it is at least different than the run of the mill games out there. But with a few new games on the horizon, I would think they might consider trying harder to keep folks from leaving this game for those other ones.

I think what they have done here is add another piece of code based on the RNG. Make the ratio (i.e. RNG) between junk and not (i.e. chest) better towards the non-junk item. This means that your chance of getting something of higher rarity has now improved when compared to before. This is the simplest method, because instead of changing code more, you are essentially adding another IF that encapsulates the already written code.

Then give this code a pretty face (i.e. a chest) and run the RNG within it to give an item from blue rarity upwards.

Simple and effective, but I wish the minimum rarity within the chest was green…not blue.

Well I’ve just noticed that the recent patch notes say they have adjusted the loot drops in Orr but don’t say up or down so i suspect that will mean down though i cannot imagine handing out more porous bones lol!
On another note i found a rare off a spider and got a wooden chest that dropped a green and the wife just got a level 80 exotic torch off a champion boar in Queensdale, i got a blue.

Vini, Vidi, Vici, Viridis…I came, I saw, I conquered…I got a green??
