I’ll do my best, but I must emphasize that my summary is not intended to cover everything that has been raised by all players in the threads I listed above. So here goes.

Legendaries are supposed to be acquired over time. Every legendary knows this process. They are designed so that, over time, you can obtain every item necessary for your legendary through normal, intended gameplay – with the exception of the precursor. Herein lies the core of the issue with silver doubloons.

- The item cannot be obtained through normal endgame gameplay (such as lodestones, through participation in dungeons).

- The item does not drop for level 80 characters, even if you spend your time in the “right” (I believe level 25-35) zones. Your character has to be under level 35 to obtain it in those zones. Therefore, the item can only be acquired in two ways:

1. opening bags dropped in level 20 to 35 zones. You need approximately 70 bags per doubloon, meaning you need about 17 thousand 500 bags. That is not regular gameplay, and certainly not regular in the sense that you’re spending all your time in a zone that is not designed for level 80 endgame gameplay.
2. forging pebbles/nuggets. From experience, I have learned that you’ll need approximately 100 pebbles/nuggets per doubloon, meaning 25 thousand pebbles/nuggets. It should be clear this amount of nuggets/pebbles aren’t gained through regular, intended gameplay.

- The item cannot be upgraded, unlike lodestones.
- The item does not follow the same rule as a similar item, “transmogrify: gold doubloon”, available in the artificer crafting panel.

These issues, in a nutshell (which is not intended to be comprehensive!) should make it abundantly clear that either 1) the introduction of silver doubloons into the recipe “gift of the juggernaut” was a bug/oversight, or 2) the developers forgot to implement the recipe “transmogrify: silver doubloon”, which seems the most likely of these two scenarios.

I can hear you thinking: what about option 3) it was intended? I, and many others before me over the past year, simply cannot imagine – due to the reasons listed above – that this was the case. It directly contradicts everything Anet has ever said regarding intended gameplay. That is why I seek an answer. And why hundreds of players have sought this answer over the last year. Yet they never received one. And that, unfortunately, only compounded the problem.

Edit: it’s not 1 in 70 bags, I just tried it. A lot. It’s about 1 silver doubloon per 250 bags. Or more, if you’re unlucky. So at best, it would take over 60 thousand bags in order to get 250 silver doubloons.

This seems about as doable as the halloween weapons, but with more time to acquire the appropriate ingredients. I’d say it’s working as intended.

it’s not that hard to get them… I leave 4x level 24’s camped in urumag’s in LA to pop on every day and harvest them shiny silver devils.. I get like 3-4 a week… yes drop rate is incredibly low… but they’re EXTREMELY easy to obtain… just takes time.

Buttercup sadly they will continue to ignore this because of poor management and greed. I think we are seeing Anet shift from a good gaming company to the next EA/Activision. The gem store gets weekly updates with new limited time item’s while the state of game goes unchanged or becomes worse.

I think there are way to many team’s working independent of each other (on the same projects in most cases). That’s why some of the content feels so subpar “Halloween anyone”.

There greed is starting to show on the content updates to the Gem Store those happen weekly with “limited time item’s”. Great example of this is the new toxic glove’s and shoulders. Those item’s would have made much much better living story completion item’s then a one time use skill point shard.

I don’t think buttercup u will see a fix for this anytime soon. I am sure you will end up leaving the game in the next 6months unless things start to dramatically approve like the vast majority will in North America and Europe, but that’s ok cause by that time Anet will be in Asia and there market will be 10x’s what it is now so that just saves them money in the long run.

I kind of agree that Silver Doubloons are redonkulous to acquaire. The grind is pretty similar to some of the lodestone grinds though, I’ve gone through chains of dungeons without one. The only differences is as you stated, not normal 80 end game grind.

I have no idea what the OP is getting at. To me it appears to be a thread about a pointless complaint that you have to put in some time and effort to get a legendary.

These complaints baffle. It is as if some people have some odd sense of self entitlement and feel like it should be easier for “them” to get their legendary.

It is hard to complain that Anet is ignoring a problem, when there is actually no problem.

Ehm, Smooth, whatta you mean, shortcut. You can’t acquire the friggin item through normal endgame gameplay.

Look, let’s compare this to the crazy charged lodestone. Which you need for crafting Sunrise, the Meteorologicus, five foefire weapons (including foefire’s essence), Mjolnir, Infinite Light and Wings of Dwayna. And more. Pretty much all the cool looking items, really.

Now. Here’s the creepy part. Let’s take a legendary, one of the most popular in the game – Sunrise – that uses charged lodestones. Mind you, this is a weapon which most classes in the game can use (unlike a hammer). Now, you’d be coming out two times cheaper using a charged lodestone recipe than this silver doubloon recipe. You need 250 silver doubloons, which are now nearing 2g each. That’s 500g right there for just the silver doubloons.

Shortcut… my kitten shortcut. That’s a game design oversight/bug.

When over the last year literally hundreds of people have “complained” and/or requested clarification about this bug/oversight on this official forum, yes, it’s called ignoring.

And don’t tell me about “entitlement”. I’m not exactly new around here. I did craft an expensive legendary before, and have enough stuff + coin to buy this legendary straight off the TP had it been for sale. That’s not the point whatsoever. Whether I can or cannot afford it is irrelevant. There’s a design flaw that needs to be fixed.

Since the latest round of posts started several weeks ago , I’ve personally extracted and sold 20+ silver doubloons. One person. I’m not even interested in the Hammer of Shiny and I’ve churned out 10% of the requisite chokepoint material in 2 weeks spending no more than 3 minutes a day on it. The people most committed to creating the corresponding Legendary are succeeding. You see more of them in WvW and Lion’s Arch every month.

That you are not the most dedicated may not be ANet’s problem.

They didn’t because it isn’t a bug. It is an item that doesn’t drop in populated zones from kills players do often. And I love it. Because they are not all that rare, and I farm them to sell at inflated prices to lazy players who prefer to spend hours complaining on the forums, rather then putting in the effort to get items for their legendary, then complain that getting a legendary took effort.

May not be a bug, but it is a design flaw. Nothing in this game should be based around needing alts to complete something. You yourself is saying that you like to sell at the inflated price to the lazy people who do not want to earn themselves. The problem is they cannot earn it themselves on a level 80 character without paying your admitting stated inflated amount. It is a design flaw if having alts is needed to get an item for a different character.

Design flaw? That’s a bit of a hyperbole don’t you think? Why in the world would you need alts? You farm them just they way you farm lodestones, or upper tier mats.

Its is not a design flaw. It is a thought process flaw on your part. There is no reason you need an alt for anything. Your down leveled. That is part of the design.

Man, typing this is hard. I cannot stop laughing since I read design flaw…………They are just as easy to farm as all of the items I farmed. I want to give my sympathy to this cause, I really do. But my personal experience farming all the mats myself and my common sense, just refuse to let me get behind you on this one.

After reading this thread I have decided to continue grinding out silver doubloons (just for fun I ran the mystic forge 30 times to trim my overstock of tier 2 jewel mats this evening since last posting… I got two more silver doubloons…) and I’m setting aside half of the profits from all my silver doubloon sales to buy STACKS of copper doubloons for the next week or three.

Because if they do make it possible to convert the copper ones to silver, I expect the copper doubloon price to pop up over a 1g within hours of the announcement.

The demand for silver doubloons is incredible. At most doubling the supply by folding copper ones into the supply is NOT going drop the price all that much.

That’s what I’ve been doing. I have managed 7 level 21s parked at the chest to farm them daily. It’s an awesome way to make a little gold for doing pretty much nothing at all. Even if I don’t feel like playing that day, I can still make some progress. I would be sad to see that taken from me, but at the same time I do need to acknowledge that it is a bit of a messed up situation that a level 20 bracket item is required for an end game goal.

However, it is not impossible to acquire at 80 without alts. Certain bags drop em, TP supplies them, the MF can gamble for them, and level 20 bracket JP chests can contain them (you do not always get loot for your level, sometimes you get it at the maps level). Although it is unarguably more efficient to just park low level alts for them.

Pretty easy to obtain. Run lvl 22 characters through the 6 very easy to obtain normal chests in Queensdale and plains of ashford. Do this daily and it shouldn’t take you longer than 10 mins if that. You will get at least 1 silver doubloon a day.

Really? You guys really believe that’s intended gameplay? Not doing a jumping puzzle but reaping the rewards anyway – on three characters that deliberately not level up so that they are in the “right” level range to receive silver doubloons? On top of that, it means people either have to delete their fully decked out level 80 characters, or buy three or more character slots so that they can abuse the jumping puzzle system on a daily basis with three or more characters?

That is not intended gameplay, that’s abuse gameplay.

Would people QUIT SAYING 80s CAN’T GET THEM?

Go to the appropriate zone.
Kill.
Open bags.
DONE.

Really? Let’s assume 1 in 3 of the “right” mobs, let’s say centaurs, drops the “right” bag that might contain a doubloon. As I stated above, you need over 60 thousand bags of those bags for 250 doubloons. You are, therefore, proposing that people stick around in level 20 to 35 zones for a year and slay 180.000 centaurs just to get the doubloons. Do you even know how ridiculous that sounds?

Again, that is not intended gameplay, that’s abusive gameplay.

Did you see the Halloween grind? Literally impossible to gather (without buying a ton of the mats off the TP-to actually gather, oneself) all the required mats to make those weapons (The Crossing, The Mad Moon and the other one I always forget). Seems like this fits right in with that mentality.

not as ridiculous as pulling numbers out of thin air

  • park some lowbies
  • kill some centaurs
  • do some dungeons, use reward gold to buy them

and in couple of month, or less if you got more time to play, you’ll have your shinies

kill all ze thingz

I’ve made both the juggernaut and sunrise for my guardian.

With Sunrise, I could get charged cores/lodestones from the dwayna event, champ boxes, CoE and an occasional drop from a spark. You could also promote cores>lodestones. When I got my dawn from the forge I had around 70 lodestones from just normal gameplay.

With the Juggernaut, the molten lodestones weren’t a problem, but the doubloons weren’t really obtainable through normal gameplay in the same way as the lodestones.

Adding a recipe to combine copper doubloons or to downgrade gold or platinum doubloons would increase the market for those items, which are currently nearly worthless. (2-6s for copper/gold/platinum, compared to around 1g90s for silver).

This game machanic and material is right down idiotic. It does not belong in any game whatsoever for any reason.

The weapon which it makes is supposed to be legendary and epic, not a symbol of farming either the mats or the gold to acquire them.

A-net please fix this.

Seems like people just want their legendary easier. Every legendary has a hard to obtain component. Juggernaut isn’t even the hardest to get or the rarest. If you want the weapon then you have to do what the 1000’s of other players didn’t seem to have a problem doing…

Do dungeons,/farm champs -> buy on TP.

The whole game resolves on that.

In this game you don’t do things on your own… you are no hero. Get the lesson from the personal story.

The people calling this a bug… Have none of you ever heard of the term “oversight?”
To be quite honest, that makes way more sense for the current situation you guys are in. It’s clear that the people responsible for the creation of the Quicksilver recipie didn’t take into consideration of how Silver Doubloons drop in the open world, and how ludicrous the means players would have to go through to get the amount needed.
Don’t call this a bug, it isn’t a bug. It’s an oversight.

I feel so sad for people still trying to craft Juggernaut nowadays.
I made it 4 months ago when doubloons cost 90s each and it was already a huge amount of farm, right now the price is over doubled, anet definitely needs to address that.

sigh.. the only problem I see here is people that complain about it just want an easier time, lots of people already have the Juggernaut which means it is attainable. If they could do it why can’t you?? your probably gonna say “Oh it’s because I have a life outside of the game” blah blah If so then a Legendary is not for you or if your gonna say it’s your second legendary or so then the Juggernaut is not for you make something else! seriously people are so selfish lol “Oh im having a hard time better complain in the forums so they make things easier” makes me laugh

I’m with the people who love this silver doubloon situation.
I really hate to part with anything but the gold is too good. When doubloons go down again I still have to get them so that I have a pile of them like I had before I started selling mine. :/

As a side product I have a lot of level 20 armor and weapons stored for the many, many characters who will get the level 20 scrolls. <3

You realize that the price didn’t go up because the supply went down… It went up because there are now many more players competing for the components to make them. If anything the supply went up substantially because people like me are now harvesting them for sale – we just can’t keep up with the hordes of future Shiney-Hammer swingers .

Maybe the inbound nerfs on Warrior Hammer-Spam will drive off some customers and the prices will drop.

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

For science!

There is a theory that if Demand is met, prices should fall. So I’ll be unloading all my Silver Doubloons on the TP, and we’ll see how much the price drops. If I end up making a lot of money off of players, I’ll just have to bite my tongue and accept that fact.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!
