The Cantha Thread [Merged]
I don’t really understand the draw of Cantha as a region.
If we’re talking about Asian-themed content, Kodans and their iceberg cities are closer to Asian culture than anything I came across in Factions.
Kodans believe in a cycle of rebirth, which is very similar to Buddhism. The way the Kodans speak have a very Zen-like quality in them. They have names which resemble what Chinese flowery names would be like if they were literally translated into English. The architecture of the dwellings on the iceberg resemble Chinese temples.
I’m not sure if Cantha is popular because of its supposedly Asian influence, or if it’s because of the nostalgia factor.

For me it’s the areas. Not the campaign factions itself, that was not very good imo. I hated master togo and his slow pace walk and him getting stuck behind a crate failing the mission.
The starter island was great, the city was terrible, one of the worst placed I have ever seen in a game. But the jade sea, and the echovald forrest are pretty kitten good.
The Elite dungeons were fun and very well designed.
And it came with 2 very strong and popular classes, one with the most moronic skill ever created in a game, but that’s another thing
I fully intend to ask them when we are getting Nightfall and Factions areas and beyond next week at the Eurogamer Dev chat
I genuinely want to see what happened to Kaineng 250 years down teh line and I want to see where those other Asura gates in Lions Arch goto

Please do and give us feed back of what they allow. Cantha sold the game to me not proph or nightfall hated them both. Shing Jea Island was the best I loved it and I would love to just be able to FULLY explore the jade sea. now the city was bad in most areas but as far as the palace went I liked it. in the game you spent most of your time between SJI and Ench forest/jade sea just being able to explore those spots we just looked at and said “I wanna go dat-a-way!” (wall) cry. would also like to hear more of shiro yes he was locked away but he was once just a simple soul like everyone else and he made his way to the top he is a powerful force who is to say there isnt people trying to free him just as abbadon was trying to be freed by Varesh and if he did start poking cantha with what the ugh what’s the name of the Purity group eh either way they would HAVE to call for help like they did the first time(nostalgia kitten for some resembling events from gw1) maybe he could be stopped fast but then there is a greater power that draws the continents attention and ends up giving shiro time to come back maybe a changed spirit? people and things can change you know
Edit: maybe like glint and he offers training and ancient knowlege maybe a step to something else legendary? or maybe just a new weapon(crosses fingers Kusarigama)

OH, I’m glad I’m not the only person that hated the city. One way ticket to motion sickness, that place. Bleh.
I’d like Cantha back… when the lore makes sense for it to become accessable.

Bah, seeing how things go down in this game, I’m sure it will be something lame like being ambassadors for the Tengu once their little zone opens up.
Also adding my voice to this post. Cantha in gw1 was what brought my attention to this game in the first place, it was also why i bought GW2, i wanted to see what had changed, what it would look like in the future, the forest, the massive city… the jade sea..
Please bring Cantha to GW2, doesn’t have to be now, but soon.

Yeah I did too, I could only ever do Kaineng with heroes as I had to stop from time to time
But the city was based on a real place in China (someone else can google it) which has now been pulled down, but according to the lore we’ve already read, the current Emperor is an isolationist that conquered and disbanded the Luxons and Kurzicks…
However we could easily be begged to help in Cantha as there’s bound to be a dragon there and Kuunavang, like Glint needs our help (like Glint died helping Destiny’s Edge)

From what I remember, it was based on Kowloon, Hong Kong. It hasn’t been torn down, as the area it was supposedly designed after, is more of a poor-mans area. Unless it’s changed in the last 3 years at least, as that was my last port visit there.
Bring it back. As a fan of the lore of the game I don’t see any reason for neglecting content that was in the previous game. Its like reading a second book in a serious and half the world just kinda well… fell off the face of the earth
ohmaigad this is on the 5th page of the subforum.
FOR CANTHA AND ELONA!!!!!!!!
I loved Factions, its best GW game so far and i really want in GW 2 anything that has to do with factions, what is problem with asian stile lol?Did any1 complain on that for factions?I dont think so…arena net assume wrong if they think we dont want this,in fact i whould like Elona here too lol
I dont understand NCSOFT…
So its allowed to “caricature” European (Ascalon), American (Kryta), African (Elona, Istan) and arabic (vabii) cultures to makes the awesome video game that Guild Wars is… but Asian apparently not… what’s wrong with Asia ? hopefully all the nations werent so untolerant like that otherwise Fantasy would never have existed…
And right… echovald forest miss me so much…and so jade sea.
RIP canthan district and welcome to insipid stories about the Queen, Logan etc…

Xenophobic.
I really want back cantha and elona and what is most important i want the skills to be like in gw1 there you had a HUGE choice from skills and builds and in gw2 you got only 5 skills per weapon.ANET and NCSOFT should stop with this living world events bullkitten and start to updating and adding real content not only some events that bores you after 2 days.We waited 1 year for lfg tool that isnt even working yet and we still wait for new weapon skills.Im sorry but i dont think this is fair. And im pretty sure that they already know that we all want cantha and elona back because this topic has 33 pages and its still going.
Seriously… where is cantha?!

I’d like to see Cantha as well.
What ever is to come, I’d like you guys to take your time, and make it right, don’t rush it, don’t let your fans pressure you. People back in the day were just as eager as they are now, they just didn’t have social media etc. to pressure and hound companies into early releases like they do now.
As well, I’m hoping to see a new dungeon or something.
The only reason I don’t want the Jade Sea to completely melt is how much i hate underwater combat :P
I hope that if cantha ever return, it will not be another modern garbage with megalasers tanks and terminators (like what’s the Living Story is now).
This is a fantasy game (as far as i know), yet we have so few of old traditions, ancient palces. Only ruins we have to dig for museums. Or to make place for a consortium holiday result. We need the old and beautiful traditional Canthan architercture.

I agree. If they make Cantha a modern day Tokyo, I’d be kitten ed and would literally quit.
Keep hope !
Cantha isnt completly gone; look at this interview !
http://gw2.univers-virtuels.net/article/4385/ArenaNet-Interview.html
It seems that the only problem remaining is from the editor company…most of devellopers would be agree if its problem is solved to introdice Cantha througt living story…
I think once Anet stops working on the China release they can finally put the developers and the resources for the Cantha.
Count me in for Cantha too! I never played GW1 but from the way people describe it, Cantha was the most amazing place in the game. Also I love reading about the lore of GW and there is so much story surrounding Cantha that it would be a shame from a storytelling standpoint to miss out on it.
Cantha is must to have !Arena net its time for u to start work actively on this content….nothing will improve better game then this
I’d rather fight him again than any dragon……
that guy was pretty crazy looking. the funny thing is that there arent even that many dragons to fight in gw2 lol. Id rather have cantha than more dragons.
I would gladly pay 60 usd for cantha.
I
WANT
MY
RITUALIST
BACK
I don’t care that all their skill types have been stolen by other classes…I just want my Rit back with its amazing play style.
I would say Monk, too, but at least Ritualist is still in the realm of (vague) possibility.

At this point, I would give up my first born for Cantha.
Where would Cantha be located on the map?
Where would Cantha be located on the map?
they can do what they did in gw1 which was to have a separate map which you traveled to by boat or something. It was like you took a ferry to get to cantha. That way they could add worlds like cantha and elona without muddling up the map

Tyria is a continent in the world of the same name. And Catha and Elona are other 2 different continents, no need at all to muddling Tyria map at all!
As in GW1 When you are in a specific Continent you just see that continent map!
I think the number of posts in this threads speaks for itself. Cantha has to make a return and not just a temporary Living world event either!
It will be a temporary living world event. Worst company out there.
IF you bring cantha, don’t make us grind from level 1-80. kitten leveling altogether.
Cantha is my favorite place in Guild Wars, and there was a time when I would have paid cold hard cash to see it brought forward to GW2, but now… no. Based on how GW2 has gone during its first year, my advice to all Cantha fans is this: go back to Guild Wars (while you still can) and revisit the Cantha you know and love, because if it ever does come to GW2 it will be in name only.
IF you bring cantha, don’t make us grind from level 1-80. kitten leveling altogether.
I don’t think another 20-30 level 80-only zones would work well.

Sure, but leveling is sooo boring in this game. The tutorial mode of the game should be till like level 30, the other 50 levels are totally not necessary and boring as hell. What about this: make the level cap 30 instead of 80, would be so much better.

Why would you have to start a new char for Cantha?
IMO the only possible playable races that would have starter zones in Cantha would be human and tengu.
Their personal stories would be completely different from Tyria’s personal story and this is what is going to be super hard to implement. Things such as knowing when to crossover to the original story of fighting Zhaitan would be difficult to decide.
IMO I would rather have a personal story where you are rebelling against the current Emperor in Cantha.
So after 250 years and isolation, what would your reaction be if this is what Cantha looks like when you first step foot in it in Guild Wars 2?
Looks neat to me. As long as there’s no Scarlet. However, I doubt they’ll do it justice.
No more painful on the eyes than their first rendition.
Then again, I am probably the only person on the planet that rather disliked Cantha and Factions as a whole. I’d be perfectly fine with GW2 never going back there.
Looks very much like the Bazaar of the Four Winds. Won’t be shocked at all.

Put me in that boat too. I prefer the look of Elona and the stuff they added in the Eye of the North to Cantha. I’m not sure why people are so focused on it to be honest.
I should probably say that I didn’t HATE Factions or Cantha… merely that it was by far my least favorite of the four games.
The Jade Sea and Echovald Forest were great areas to explore, although I had very little interest in the entire “factions” mechanic. The “split” missions (with two parties from different sides cooperating for a common goal) was a neat idea, but the execution frequently fell flat, especially if you had no one waiting on the other side and had to count on default NPCs to do their job (spoiler alert; most of the time they didn’t).
I couldn’t get out of Kaineng City fast enough (that entire area literally hurt my eyes), and the game itself seemed like it couldn’t get me off Shing Jea Island fast enough.
Dear Arena Net,
If you are going to bring Cantha to Guild Wars 2 please use Guild Wars Factions soundtracks like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I17ZUalbY9s. This will evoke nostalgia.
I love this music with passion.
