auric basin gets my vote, in all questions posted above, the meta is nice and reminds me of TT, mobs can be chalenging sometimes, rewards are good, has gorgeous graphics, its not a complete Bs to navigate and learn the map like TD, since i want to make auric weapons collection, it has the best curency for me, story its so nice cuz we meet the exalted and its relaxing to explore, so yeah ^^

Let me get this straight. I kittening hate Tangled Depths. With all my soul. But. BUT. Running around the 4 lanes, dodging chak and opening 50 rare caches is just relaxing and awesome. I really enjoy doing that. Not because of the rewards. the rewards have been crap for me. Just because it’s a fun thing for me to run around a well-designed area opening shiny stuffz.

I just wanna say that despite Tangled Depths being such a kitten to explore and navigate, I am grateful that it is there because it adds a bit of diversity to the game. The last thing I want the Devs to do is to give birth to 10 more Auric Basins because it won the vote, just like how almost every new map is essentially a Silverwastes map in disguise.

EXPLORE — VB — Can get to all of it without event gates, helpful for elite weapon collections
BEST META — DS — direct drive to map wide goal, everyone is involved, epic feel
BEST REWARDS — VB (for the light staff and hammer, if they would just DROP)
STORY PS/Meta — VB (lots of details, different feel for each of 5 chains, less rushed PS)
VISUALS — Tossup VB/AB. Going with VB as it has longer views.
CURRENCY ACQUISITION — VB — it comes naturally at an even pace as you participate
BEST ENEMY DESIGN — AB — it has them all (maybe not Chak). Enemies are fairly standard through the 4 maps, though.
FAVORITE OVERALL — VB — has the most variety and availability of things to do.

None of that says I actively dislike the non-mentioned zones, they just aren’t at the same level of immersion and involvement as my faves.

1)Explore? None – i don’t like design of those maps only Autistic Basin is normal

5)Visuals? Hard to tell.

From a terrain and level design standpoint and op mobs aside
the HoT maps are the best maps in GW2,at least the three I’ve
already visited.
Haven’t played DS yet,but I have to say this about TD.
This map is explorer candy store full of exploring candy.
I you too like exploring a map for hours and getting a bit lost
this is the map to play.

Oh golly this is gonna be so much process of elimination..

Verdant Brink, its easiest to get around in and it seems to be the one most enthusiastically designed with gliders in mind.

Verdant Brink, again. I don’t like how all the new maps are designed around temporary gametypes that reset on timers. They feel more like gamey mini-games, instead of the living, breathing worlds of the oldworld. VB is the least mini-gamey of the four.

Tho I haven’t done enough of TD to say how gamey it is or isnt

Auric Basin, for sure! My wallet loves those chests.

I’ve played these “stories” too much to not be sick of them.
If I had to choose, it’d probably be Dragon’s Stand, as I think it should’ve been the final fight instead of what we really had as the final fight.

Auric Basin, followed by Tangled Depths. Only maps that felt jungley for this jungle expansion and I don’t get why the chak are any kind of relevant.

Verdant Brink, I guess. I understand why scrap would be valuable to the pact survivors. I don’t understand why Lumps of Aurillium are valuable to the Exalted.

Dragon’s Stand. The Mouth of Mordremoth is just awesome. And those tower monsters are fun when you’re not doing the meta way of beating them :T

Auric Basin. If it weren’t for the constant meta events, it’d be the most fun place to hang out and chill. Really wish the city was an actual city instead of some meta boss arena. :T

Omg – too many questions to answer. I have a life lol. I like Auric Basin. The Verdant Brink is nice, but I’m getting burnt out there. As a few have said before me, they need to work on Dragon’s Stand and Tangled Depths to make them more “solo-able”. And again, the general complaint seems to be that the new areas are in no way solo-able.

1. Which map is your favorite to EXPLORE?
Tangled Depths. The Labyrinthian caves and overgrowth, smacked full of dangerous enemies, is the very epitome of what the Maguuma jungle is supposed to be if you ask me. A Dangerous place that never sleeps, where pretty much everything is out to kill you in the most painful way possible.

2. Which map has your favorite MAP META mechanic
Also Tangled Depths. It’s long, sure, but that allows for a “Come-and-go” playstyle where you can pop in and do events whenever you feel like, before popping back out again. There is no rush, you can spend your time as you wish.
Verdant Brink takes a close second on this one.

3. Which map has your favorite REWARDS (unique zone rewards)
Dragon’s Stand take this one, cause Crystalline Ore needed for Guild Armors. Personally not a fan of the edgy, try-hard Bladed Armor in VB, or the Auric/Chak weapons in other zones. AB has Viper recipes though, which I guess is pretty neat.

4. Which map has the best STORY (both personal story and event story)
Hard to pick one, didn’t pay much attention to the story overall. Dragon’s Stand, I suppose, since it’s the bombastic climax where the Pact Troops mobilize to keep the Mouth of Mordremoth busy, while the Commander and his team make their way along the side to deal with the Dragon itself.

5. Which map has the best VISUALS (map design, best view)
Auric Basin is one of my all-time favorites. When I first came to the city, I felt like a pioneer in the new world who just stumbled upon El Dorado. The sight was quite breathtaking and I ran around like those Skritt NPCs do. No Shame.

6. Which map has your favorite MAP CURRENCY acquisition method
Hardly care much for it, once you get the Nuhoch Hunting mastery, then you’ll end up with bags of currency from just doing events and killing enemies. Which is pretty much how I do it, anyway.

7. Which map has the best ENEMY DESIGN (mechanics AND visuals)
Tangled Depths again. I really don’t care for the Suarians much, but in TD you get the flippin’ Chak. I love how they really feel like an unending swarm of insects hellbent on eating you alive. Even if the can be a real pain when they start swarming, they make for interesting enemies at all times.

Then we have the mushrooms, but let’s not talk about the mushrooms. As stated above, everything in TD is out to kill you in the most painful way imaginable.

In fairness, I haven’t done enough exploring in Dragon’s Stand yet. And I like all the zones so far. They’re all works of art. But entering the Verdant Brink for the first time and the story that explains the incredible landscape…just fantastic! The events all fit in and add to the feel. And what better introduction to glider mechanics?

I’m going to go ahead and agree with the others who singled out the chak for enemy design. These guys are just a lot of fun. I can’t really explain why. But honestly, it’s a close call because I’ve had a blast with the mordrem and those frog people, too. The frog people probably keep me on my toes the most (that bladedancer/shadowleaper combo is nasty!), but dodging sniper fire and charging raptor mounts with the mordrem can be fun, too!

Most of all I just enjoy the overall map design. It’s convoluted, difficult to navigate, and the enemies can be a handful. But these maps feel alive. They’re so intricate. Coming from WoW, where maps are mostly just 2D planes with features on top of them, the HoT maps are a beautiful thing. I’m sure once that new map smell wears off I’ll be eating these words, but that just means I’ll be ready to shell out cash for more of the same quality! That is the idea, isn’kitten

After some time away from the game the initial hot air cleared out of my head and I decided to give HoT another go. I’ll share my thoughts here

1. Which map is your favorite to EXPLORE? – One thing became clear to me, I really do hate the hot maps

2. Which map has your favorite MAP META mechanic – Nothing special with these metas, long, boring player train with crap rewards

3. Which map has your favorite REWARDS (unique zone rewards) – the only reward i cared about was the bladed armor because it finally gave light armor classes something resembling actual armor

Which map has the best ENEMY DESIGN (mechanics AND visuals) – the hot enemy NPCs are all different shades of annoying, I didnt feel threatened by any of them, I do hate how they all have super annoying AoEs, knockdowns etc. They felt like a cheap attempt to kill the player. Well Anet you tried to kill me- you failed, this is not Dark Souls.

Bottom line, the expansion for me boils down to the Reaper. So, I bought a trait line for 50 bucks and thats my last purchase for a long time.

It’s just an onerously long and tedious road-trip through a drab green hell with indistinguishable monsters, repetitive combat and a mediocre ending. Just my opinion. Your results may differ. Consult your doctor if pain persists.

EDIT: Oh, and it’s followed by a very brief lull during which you rush about madly trying to explore the place before the DEAD dragon throws you out of his domain.
