Asura Animations & Visual Effects are Broken
i find way more interesting the fact the word “soon” has even a copyright logo on it.
Anet never ceases to amaze me, seriouslee
iWarden on an asuran is the same. The animation with the whirling axes is much smaller than the actual hit area.
I want an option to turn everyone into Charr. They have probably most telegraphed animations ever
Also, bring them back to tPvP. Haven’t seen any for a long time in a crowd of human females and asuras

Easy fix:
Just make that if you enter a pvp match, you automatically get transformed into a human character, so no issues anymore (for the time you are in this match). Like when you use a tonic or so.
And btw I want an option for myself to let everyone be shown in a pvp match as a human so I finally can see the animations of the Freaking asuras and norn mesmers stop destroying my view…
Don’t need a complicated fix, just make everyone’s size consistent in sPVP / WvW.

Any idea when character normalization will be implemented?
Branden Gee is new, by the time he has any tenure there to make such a change his contract will have ended and a new employee will have taken his place.

This would be funny if it wasn’t true.
And such is the GW2 circle of life.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.
Whenever I play my asura I get into the top 100..when I dont play my asura…..gg
Er mah gerd.. Asuras OHPEE
When asuras get fixed and sized up gw2 will finally be ready for esports.

Please no
Don’t fix the effect scaling or mess with the animations, don’t do any of that work
Just make it so all the models become those standard human frame models like in wvw, when doing sPVP
That’s all, no work, just get it done or kiss goodbye to any PVPer taking GW2 seriously when gameplay is affected by roleplaying factors like asura vs norn race choice
Similarly, the icons for conditions and boons are minuscule and badly placed because we’re supposed to be able to see them in combat. Clearly this approach does not work because of how spammy the combat is, together with overly flashy particle effects.

I think a nice alternative would be to allow to display all condis and boons (one on top of the other) and grayed out when they’re not currently applied to you. That would mean you can always glance at the exact same spot to see if the enemy has, say, stability, or if you have confusion.
This has bugging me since forever…the asuran size is just too small. You cannot evade what you cannot see coming, compared to a norn from the same class or even a human or sylvari…you can See what they do,you cannot for the life of you see what an asuran is gonna do ,animation wise.Especially when other effects are going on its nigh impossible.giving them an incredibly unfair advantage over other players in whatever scenario you may come up with and whatever build or class they roll they will always have an advantage over you, playing any of the other races. Its completely and utterly unfair, and i extremly dislike people picking asurans just because of this fact, youre a cheapo if you do so.I really really hope they will finally start adressing this issue, one way or the other..

I saw them disappear..wait for it,..wait for it…wait..hit by something..not sure what, didn’t see a thing.

Oh, I like the sound of this.
We really need a more customisable UI (why on earth was that not implemented? It was definitely well used in gw1!) because the current setup isn’t very good for many players.
I’d like to have an options menu tab dedicated to this, with free placement/sizing of interface components, but if not that at least settings for things like Moyo’s suggestion so we could more easily see what was going on without having to process the individual icons (which often flash on and off very fast, with lots of cleanse or boonstrip going about).

Are class skills so intricately tied to character size? Considering the MASSIVE range of customizable character/race sizes, this seems like a pretty glaring flaw that should’ve been highlighted before release :S

It was. The asura issue was apparently raised as early as alpha according to some. If it hasn’t been fixed or addressed since then, I wouldn’t expect it to be fixed going forward.

It really annoyed me seeing the NA TOL team mostly playing tiny little Asura’s…I hope Anet took note of that and why they did it. To be an esport, that kind of racial advantage shouldn’t exist.
Game has already a way to display standard characters: the “Chracter Model Quality” setting.
It has to be “copied” and adapted to fit the SPVP matches so you can see enemies only/all/no one as normalized characters (black face, same armor, standard weapons).
This will also make it easier to see between armor and weapons particular effects (legendaries -.-).

Even with the standard models in WvW, you can see character weapons and backpieces… legendary weapons and many backpieces are ‘prestige’ that I guess ANet wants everyone to be able to show off.
Standard models I’m in favour of, though – iunno if I care too much about standardised weapons, though there are a couple of outliers that I don’t like seeing (charr with the huge bazooka rifle, for example, is just madness).

How would this idea handle things like cultural armors? Won’t turning everyone into humans cause a loss of uniqueness in the game? Every player has specific facial adjustments, body types, heights, armor colors, and weapons; what happens to these?
Thanks to this thread, I’m taking my max height asura and paying to change to the smallest size.
LOL @ turning every player to a default look. Can’t tell them apart except for name. That totally makes sense…
Are skins and looking unique important in a PvP match? Not a game format that strives to be a competitive one. Nothing happens to them. They just do not work in a PvP match. The special snowflakes can be unique everywhere else in the game?
First thought: Watchknight Robotz.
Second thought: All Logans and Queen Jennahs.
Well a bit more seriously, I do think that uniqueness will be lost, but the idea of Avatars (could be a couple to chose from per profession, purely for looks) might not be too bad – if this is necessary from the esports perspective.

I would rather have balance and fairness than look fabulous. Which I do look fabulous, but balance is more important.
You could have a human model in the mists and customize it there if you like. I think few players would have an issue if they knew why it was done. And those players are only going to be those benefitting from the asura (getting nerfed) or cared too much about looks to begin with and aren’t serious pvpers if they like looks over balance.
(edited by Roe.3679)
there should be a point in options where u can decide that the asuramodel is shown as human or char sylvari whatelse. but atm it kinda sucks cause asuras have an advantage :/

the more sensible solution would be to apply size-standarding. Super Adventure Box showed that the tech is already in-game (here’s a max sized charr and max sized asura inside an SAB level), and though there are people that play tiny asuras or huge norn for reasons other than “tactical advantage”, but compromises have to be made. i honestly would like to know why this option hasn’t been pursued yet.
the extreme, drastic solution would be to have a “generic model” (like the ones we already have) unique for each profession (rather than just weight tier), then color code those models based on teams (like WvW already does), on top of making everyone human-sized. that, in my opinion, should be a last resort option, as it kills and individuality, but it does give players and spectators a standard look that immediately tells them what profession they’re up against, and solves the size problem in the same swing, so it should at least be considered.

Since this is getting visibility with ANet, I’ll just say this:
Do what SAB did; normalize the size of all races in PvP. Norn get smaller, and Asura get larger. This preserves the uniqueness of your appearances and also gets rid of the ridiculous advantages certain races have over others.
They don’t have to be human. Just take the size scaling from Super Adventure Box. As far as i can remember charrs and norns were smaller and asuras were larger in SAB.

based on the ‘box of fun’, anet seems to have the ability to change a characters size so instead of changing everyone to human just make everyone the same size.

You’re designing a competitive PvP game. Balance and fairness is much more important than unique look.
Would you allow a person with a BMW to take part in a bicycle race? His or her reason would be “But I want to look unique in the race!”
Also, the suggestion about making it an option so people can toggle between generic human models doesn’t harm the unique look other players have. Other players still see their own character on their screen, unchanged. If they want to see other people unchanged, just don’t turn on the option!
They are not forced to change their look to a generic one. They only are rendered as a generic human on another player/spectator screen if the player/spectator set the option in settings.
@everyone who supports character scaling instead of a generic human model: it won’t work. Scaling character will still give some race other benefit (not necessary Asura). Just make it a client side thing, giving the player/spectator an option to display other players in the match using a generic model.
Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.
How would this idea handle things like cultural armors? Won’t turning everyone into humans cause a loss of uniqueness in the game? Every player has specific facial adjustments, body types, heights, armor colors, and weapons; what happens to these?
Everything except body choices at character creation and cultural armor would transfer. There’s not much time in PvP to really examine your opponents’ facial features. Also, this is more of a tournament suggestion; maybe it could be optional or only applied in solo and team arena? All in all, I wouldn’t worry too much about the possible drawbacks.
Thanks to this thread, I’m taking my max height asura and paying to change to the smallest size.
LOL @ turning every player to a default look. Can’t tell them apart except for name. That totally makes sense…
You already can’t tell any players apart except by their names and profession icons, especially if they’re all Asura. Their armor, weapon, and dye choices could easily remain.

You’re designing a competitive PvP game. Balance and fairness is much more important than unique look.
It’s still a mmo as well though. Character customization and rewards are core elements of mmos. The optimal solution is to scale models super adventure box style: asura is still smaller but not so tiny that it can hide inside ranger pets.
Scaling character will still give some race other benefit (not necessary Asura).
Benefit over other races is sort of fine: those who want standarded models can just reroll to the beneficial race while the rest can stick to whatever race at the cost of some effectiveness.
The problem of asura isn’t that it is more powerful than other races. It is that they make the game harder to read than what it should be.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
With regards to uniqueness... it would only need to be available to players in the match, not spectators. With standardised models we could get a set of core weapon skins, too - I’m kinda sick of those hueg rifles (madness when wielded by charr) and the daft pewpew sound effects from certain skins.
If you reeeeally want people to have to see their opponents’ personalisations, maybe make them show up after a stomp - I for one am going to care a lot more about my opponent’s setup and skill level than what colour their hat is, but if they pop up after they stomp me I might stop to consider how cool they look.
The SAB style setting also sounds good I guess!

You’re actually better off now than with any equality changes, since you can currently make 5 huge norns and kit them out identically – with standard models, you’d no longer be able to completely obscure your opponent’s view with lll ll ll lll lll and llll l ll llll l ll and llll l lll lll and llllll l l ll llll and llll l l llll l lll clones.

Make them taller like you can make them with the fun box. But this should only apply in a PvP match to make it far for other classes.

As a pvp player I don’t care about visuals – most times they cause more trouble than they help. In WvW you can also tune down everyone to a name-tag, so tell me where is the “unique” there? PvP should be about PvP and not about visual, for visual there is PvE, it was a mistake in first place to make legendarys usable in PvP.
There would also be the option that this is client side optimization, so that if a player
wants his visual he can have it and if he doesn’t he can just make everyone to human standard customization – so for the people like me who want to see the animations and not the visual clustering and asuras (there are some, not many but a few skills have good animations ^^)
But ty for answering anyways.
Edit: and therefore you have a similar system already in wvw I would say it should be easily implemented, but thats just me as a player, I don’t know how you guys coded this game.

This is the main reason this game will never be esports, End game is dressup not skill based PVP.
