Ping is only a piece of it. You actually need to run trace route from your client to one of arena net’s servers. Most block it anyway but our company on occasion has put a sacrificial host that accepts it and on the same subnet.

That is to rule out client and public networks. Of course if this is internal than that is another story all together.

Right now, I see that t3 EB EU has “server induced” lag.

I’ll keep repeating this: I’m looking at one specific problem this weekend. As near as I can tell from your posts (which I appreciate) is that the vast majority of lag problems y’all are experiencing is not from this problem.

Some other time (maybe even later today!) I’ll look at the huge variation in ping that people standing right next to each other have and how some people get such a bad ping they disconnect. But that’s a different problem, technically speaking.

I’m interested in that problem too, just not at this exact moment.

And reducing the capacity of the borderlands/EB is not helping either. The lag is still there,

Meanwhile guilds cant get on to maps and the queues are not moving. This is causing a lot of frustration.

Right now, I see that t3 EB EU has lag.

Huge fights are still in progress.
Skills are just not going off, apart from skill 1, occationaly other skills, and people are getting disconects quite frequently.

T1 BGBL is a map that people have been avoiding because it is significantly laggier than other borderlands for some reason

Last week and this week, the server with the xxx.xxx.162:xxx /ip address was the most laggy, and currently that is the t1 bgbl

Green bl, as I reported before. Same thing from last week, green bl the most laging borderland.

Pretty interesting. I just watched a zerg fest in t5 and I had no skill lag. But players chatting with me who were closer to the battle said they had skill lag. They said I need to get into the battle to experience it. I would, but I die in 2 seconds. The big difference between me and those in the battle is the amount of data being reported- closer to battle means more data sent to client so it knows what to draw. Hmm. Interesting.

This requires looking at a whole new set of perf graphs.

Ok Dev, go right now in EB, deso, SFR, Jade sea. The battle increases everyone pings and cancels skills, wathever this is causing it cannot be ip, cause ping stays 30 outside of battles.

Update @ Stephen, of course in the the zerg there’s more lag (closer to it). If you point camera down, so you dont see almost anything, but just spam 1 (works with staff guardian) you have less lag).

Also skill that seem ‘more complex’ cancel more often then simpel skills. Long range shot, lava font, staff 1 (guardian) cancel least often imo. While skills like grenades, line of warding etc, cancel way more often. There seems to be a correlation between the more calculation a skill needs (server or client side, i don’t know and don’t care tbh, but this is how it feels), the faster it gets cancelled.

Update: 10 min later, i had 0 lag in 3 way fight. Finally lag free 3 way (Been ages since this worked for me). Ping is 10-60 with sometimes 90 spike and very rarely 166. Keep monitoring Dev. It seems to scare the malicious code that slows the battles down (lags them).

Update: 25-30 min later: full lag again, cant even cast auto attack, 3 way sm. I’m far away from the battle and can’t cast skills. Very weird how these lag spikes come and go.

Legendary weapons can be hidden now!
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

Problem is that we report skill lags for over 2 years and they just now when it got over worse started to look into it. Before March we had promises promises and promises, nothing happened.

Gunna throw the NA hat into this as well, as of march we are getting massive lag spikes and skill lag as well.
I assume it is the same situtation as in EU. Except in NA when a big fight breaks out, the lag is all over. I don’t need to be near it to feel it.

I have a felling prolonged fights and big 3-ways cause map-wide lag.
Becouse i can say that when i got into EBG (tier 3), i felt skill lag originating from keep fight, while at spawn.(that fight was lasting like 10 min at the time) and lasted another 10 or 20, (time flies when u play).

Ok guys i know you are upset over this, and noone is saying you don’t have the right to be upset, but instead of dwelling in it, in this thread, snap out of it and work with the guy. He is trying now, so let him. Feed with info you have but make sure you understand what he is talking about and stop read in other things in what he say.
This is not a one button problem, he is looking in to specific problems, so stick to them. and stop rambling about what have been and work with him!

If you work with him it might be easier to find out what is going on, and when he have, he can move on to next and next and in the end we might have a more lag free wvw as a result of this, and that is what we want, so please work with this.
He is trying AND he is talking about it here, i am happy that he is.

I mean like how this testing goes. There have been complaints about lag and even lag + culling from start. Now they fixed the culling which is nice, but (of course) it brought more lag. This is a whole different subject probably, since it probably has something to do with peformances with the servers.

Though this ’’new’’ lag has been going on for quite some weeks, if not months now. Just by seeing the way it’s being tested seems pretty alpha/beta to me. ‘’Oh its not caused by X, let’s try Y!‘’ At this rate, we might be happy if it’s fixed by the time the expansion comes along.

No hate on the dev though. He’s actually doing an amazing job by only already letting people know to not lose faith, let alone trying to fix it. So big props to him.

Yeap, before march 16. we had lag spikes but not such huge and only in 3 way sm fights. Now it is all over after stabil change. Thought about this being a cause too, wonder what devs want to say about it

Haven’t went to wvw much since the patch, have seen the zero ping before, but I can say for sure that almost every time I go to the heart of the mists for the first time with a character, I get a 0 ping. My screen stays static for a few seconds (3 to 5) and then all the commands that were queued are triggered at the same time: my character teleports to some location and skills x/y are casted.

Possibly (if only tangentially) related, I feel I should mention I have seen issues myself with 0 ping appearing recently enough although perhaps not even in WvW. It may have been right after moving from one map to another. I believe it was a week or two ago; I was on my university campus and the wireless was being a bit kittenty at the time, at the least for GW2 (and I have often been able to play out there with no issue) so I was lagging a lot for a while and dc’d a couple times and the ping display definitely showed 0 sometimes… so indeed as you said the ping display is something that should be investigated.

Hey I am on Mag and live in US. I never had these problems before now. 5 things that happen.

1. No skills working. Then activate over 10 seconds later. Or skill keep blinking and don’t go off.

2. Sometimes this follows with disconnected to server.

3. Today for the 1st time ever I was told that my account logged in with some other IP address while playing. This isn’t true the server was just reporting this as a false error. And it was the same time I am having no skills working lag.

4. On reset night. When I enter in EBG soon as it open I am teleported off the map with 60 other players from other servers.

5. My character rubber banding all over and running into walls.

Afraid he called it a night a couple hours ago, but pretty sure he’ll be back tomorrow to continue monitoring WvW.

Even if he only checks mostly EU servers, NA ones will benefit from the info gathered.

Careful now, giving a shout out to Buy Some Apples might get you in trouble if Devon or Mark find out who’s account that character belongs to!

As you can see from the guide, you probably just need to update your drivers. I wish this was sarcasm, but the guide actually mentions updating drivers several times…

Yeah if it were only my machine and not server-side sigh. GG Anet take a long look at the last patch, and see where the coding went ploin-shaped. More than 60-ish players in an area = 5 second skill lag. Even ram skills won’t fire. Head to EotM, and there is zero problem even with 2 mapblobs clashing.

BLs = terrible lag with 60+
EotM = no lag with 100+
PvE = no lag with however many fit on those maps

Something wrong with that last patch that messed up the Alpine BLs(don’t play much EB so no personal knowledge of lag there except general complaining from some players I talk to).

Devs can farther change the stability to help servers load and have the same result as now , easy …..

the problem with melee stab “ball” that bulldozing anything in its pass came from

1. stacking duration of stability ( 3 or 4 times i don’t remember exactly the number ) and
2. small recast time of trained “stand your ground” shout .

if devs remove from the old stability the stacking feature and increase a lot the recast trained time of “stand your ground” like 54 seconds ( more time for 5 full stab guards sharing their stabs . 5 from syg + 4 from trained virtue of courage = 9 seconds x 5 = 45 seconds stab with perfect rotation) OR limit it to less allies than 5 the sharing option with the old recast timer OR make it just personal boon like warriors stability that shares only retaliation ( i think is the best option ) , the result will be the same as now where there is not any stab melee “train” in wvw maps and it will give a small time window for organized groups to recover against bigger groups . also, the servers will do WAY LESS COMPUTATIONS for player’s boons in the same time .

Less computations and network traffic between server and clients from the past too !!!

p.s. also the hallowed ground can help for the group to create a small area of stability but this area is a static area and force the group stay in the area and not attacking anything , they can only fight in this area to defend the small area and this is the meaning of this skill and this is why i didn’t include it in the melee stab “ball” problem .

p.ss. i am hearing that nobody is using mantra ( point me a mesmer that remains inside heavies group to be my hero ) or toss elixir b for group stability . these changes can remain without creating more problems

p.sss. i am sure that there are more skills that create extra load and network traffic between servers and clients . for example the type of skills that do pulses . pulse means in every pulse time the client sends to server some extra infos about the characters and server reacting to clients . if devs focus to rework these types of skills ( there are many of them in game ) i am sure the wvw will be less laggy .

After Thursday and Friday nights’s lag I haven’t seen the game so dead in regards to teamspeak and commanders/blobs. So for us it’s not a good test of lag.

Gandara Borderlands: I did join up for a little while and I got ganked XD My stability shield didn’t work but I didn’t see any lag :/

As an Aussie who experiences all the types of lag in every game, I feel like I have insights.

The disconnect issue is local to users, especially if the local game falls out of sync with the server action (eg you are in comms with leader who’s making calls you don’t see for x seconds).

Becoming stuck in place or having delays going through portals is probably local to user.

Frame rate lag is not the issue.

Skill lag is real, it affects everyone at the same time regardless of PC or connection. Some skills get soft locked, some skills go through fine, sometimes nothing works. The issue is very noticeable in a full three way on an objective like the garrison.

On such fights the in-game timers such as contested time become completely incorrect. Dolyaks will display in the incorrect location and sometimes you’ll see the day / night flip instantaneously.

If you want to experience it, T1 NA will be more than happy to demonstrate all night long it if it will help solve the issue.

Stephen there is a huge problem with BGBL in T1 (green BL) my ping on that specific map at least doubles compared with other maps.

BG BL continues to be a problem. Past few nights this has been the only map with no queue, as nobody wants to play there at all. While that might not seem like a huge deal, it’s a pain when you actually want to play and your options are 10 second lag and discos or queue.
