Superior Rune of the Tempest
Why do Superior Rune of the Tempest have condition duration? I thought the whole idea of the Tempest was suppose to be a front-line support, so shouldn’t the the runes also reflect that? Wouldn’t boon duration make more sense? Tempest doesn’t have anything to do with conditions so why would we need condition duration?
Tempest can deal kitten load of burning/bleed, while tempest runes are quite bad, I’d say that they lack boon duration because they wanted to avoid a OP synergy with minstrel stats which has boon duration, you could have added boon duration food, arcane line + imbued melodies for massive boon duration
All the shouts cause conditions. Though, I think they fit better on a Berserker with Rousing Resilience.
Those runes are horrendous.
Still trash. No idea what Karl was thinking. All stats are useless on other rune sets, so put them on Tempest? Wut…
Runes of Radiance are more tempest related than Tempest Runes
Does anyone know how much these even heal for? Unless it is some brokenly OP amount (like 5K aoe) then, yea, these are 100% worthless. I haven’t tested them personally b/c they are so worthless. I am not paying the money to unlock them in pvp, but if someone already made the mistake I would love to know (just for kicks)!

Check out runes of leadership and durability. Pretty much kills the whole “wants to avoid boon duration” concept.

I also don’t understand why it’s condition damage. I’d much rather see boon duration, aura duration or… almost anything else really.
As Ryld pointed out the Runes of Radiance are way more tempting for Tempest, due to the big Aura theme
. I currently run rune of the monk in sPvP though, as we have little choice but to embrace the bunker nature of Tempest in sPvP if we want to run it.

Runes of the tempest im finding to be great. Everyone hates these runes so much but I don’t understand why. Isn’t it just mimicking a celestial approach, with some extra healing when you get cc’d?
I also find it encourages holding on to your overload until the player wastes his cc. Then you break stun, start your overload and get a little heal out of it?
I’m actually very interested in a argument to this so that I can learn. Anyone?

I think this applies only to pvp. In pve drake’s breath is considered a dps loss and no one should use it ever. Condition damage ele/tempest is “a bit” lacking there.

Hahahaha, that is HILARIOUS! It doesn’t even heal for as much as interrupt traits damage? Its like they think that tempest is supposed to camp an attunement just waiting to get stunned so it can pop the overload to stunbreak for a whopping 700 health?
I’ll echo the change I wrote up in another thread:
I think ANet looked at Celestial Elementalist in PvP and figured “Hmm, a rune that gives ALL stats MUST be good because Celestial gives ALL stats.”
Sadly, reality is much harsher than that. Ever since they Rune of Divinity, “All Stat” runes have been all but useless. Even Traveler’s is often overlooked for Speed Runes.
This rune set gives +36 to All Stats in total, whereas as regular rune gets +175 to a main stat and +100 to a secondary stat. The problem isn’t the total number, but that +36 to ANY stat is a negliable change you can always do without.
Rune of the Tempest needs to be changed, I propose the following:
- +25 Power
- +35 Healing Power
- +50 Power
- +65 Healing Power, +5% Boon Duration
- +100 Power
- +15% Boon Duration. While you have an Aura, you gain +150 Power and Healing Power.
Alternate 6th Bonus:
- +15% Boon Duration. While you have an Aura, outgoing Damage and Healing is increased by 7%.
Thief – Duelist | Ranger – Strider | Engineer – Technician |
Elementalist – Spellweaver | Necromancer – Warlock | Mesmer – Trickster |
Better would be a condi rune.
+25 Condition damage
+5% Condition duration
+50 Condition damage
+10% Condition duration
+100 Condition damage
Remove a condition on aura aplication.
ele condi builds are not in the best spot and this rune has the potential to change that.
This rune is in contention for worst in the game. How does this even make it live?
Maybe Berserker has any use for it? Radiance, trooper, leadership, earth and quite some other ones fit the Tempest better.
I just think it shows they had no clue what they were doing with the spec.

It heals for 1,100 at level 80, with 0 healing power. Where do you get 700?
1100 without healing power? in closed raids its nice with eye of the storm or traited (gale song)
didnt tried it yet but in theorycrafting sounds nice
condi stats, well ele does buring/bleeding right? so isnt that bad
especially with cele stats
change it to more boon duration would be a bit greedy no? in synergy with rev – food – trait
the suggestions of Wolfric or theswede are nice too ^^
Tempest rune has the wrong stats. It should be coni based with its condi duration. Cele stats is not helping tempest especially with leadership or scrapper runes available it will just loose.
I use nightmare rune ;-). Its better for condi duration ….
I’ll just go ahead and mention again, toss them on a Warrior with Rousing Resilience. You can actually get heals upwards of 5k per broken stun, or potentially 7.5k if traited Shake/Shrug it Off breaks the stun.
Not every profession has to use their runes. How many people are running Ele Runes? Tempest does get a Stun Break per overload, plus all the others it has access to.
If the TEMPEST does not use the TEMPEST runes, then Anet screwed up.
These runes tell you what ANet thinks of Tempests.
Clearly, the thoughts are not favorable.
While I agree they are terrible runes, if Anet likes the theme of the runes one fix might be to add +15% Condition duration to the 6th set bonus.
That would give Tempest runes +30% Condition duration, which is certainly tempting for Condi users. They would be better (imo) than the Trapper/Nightmare combo which seems to be popular in threads these days. 36 All stats and 5% Condi duration vs 100 Condi damage.

I just wanted to mention that with the Clerics Amulet in SPvP, this rune heals for 2336 with no ICD. It is not mentioned in the log though for some reason.
Running it in combination with Signet of Air, Tempest Overloads, and Cleric’s Amulet is producing very surprisingly good results!

The suggestion of +15% condi duration and so reaching +30 is realy good. This would give the rune good use. This would make it an even piece to leadership.
But i donĀ“t know is this would push non tempests like condi engi, necro or mesmer even more ?
