The OP’s maturity level is so impressive.

/endthread

The irony in your statement makes me laugh.

You talk about maturity and yet cannot grasped the simple concept of opinions. Part of growing up is understanding that people will have a different opinion than yours. It isn’t the end of the world, if you like the war horn that’s cool, we don’t and we get to complain about. That’s why forums exist.

The point being, stop projecting your insecurities.

You’re wrong. Im saying that it’s immature to not buy something just because of one teaser image, when we know literally nothing about how the spec will work as a whole. I’m excited for the expansion and grateful for all the hard work the devs have put into it.

In my eyes it seems disrespectful to be so shortsighted.

I find if disrespectful to call someone immature because of their opinion.

You don’t need to know much to know if you’re going to be disappointed or not. For me it’s enough to know it’s offhand, all I need. And I don’t blame people for being upset with the devs, they clearly haven’t visited ele forums in weeks.

So just to clarify, if it were another offhand, even an offhand sword or axe or mace or something like that you’d still be annoyed?

I may disagree with you 100% about this, and I still think that you and all the others complaining are being hasty in your judgements.

I retract my statement of immaturity, and apologize, since the OP has other reasons, besides the elite spec that make them not want to buy the expansion, and I can actually respect those reasons.

And as a note, the mesmer community was initially slightly dispointed at getting shield (although not as nearly as bad as this) and like the eles, they thought their class “deserved” a new mainhand, but as they learned all the info they needed, they stopped caring, they adapted, and moved on. Also partially because mesmer is really good right now regardless of chronomancer, but elementalist is also really good right now. Your complaints of a lack of build diversity are valid, but it doesn’t change the fact that ele is a top tier profession despite all of that. These two scenarios are similar, but eles seem much more aghast by it, and I think thats due to aesthetic biases against the warhorn that likely have little to do with weapon skills or gameplay.

There was also TONS of negative feedback surrounding dragonhunter too, pages, upon pages of negative feedback, but the devs have already made the class internally, complaining about it won’t change anything, except let them know you really want a sword or mainhand in the next expansion. The tempest blowout is completely dwarfed by the dragonhunter feedback, but most of the guardians have moved on except for a vocal minority.

And Laraley, of course they read some things in the forums, but they don’t always take people’s suggestions seriously because they have their own visions and goals that are unknown to us, and they have the forum specialists to collect feedback when needed. It would be foolish to say they visit the ele forums less than any other forum for the game. They also have their own internal data about which skills/traits/weapons are being used the most, and they watch tournaments to get a sense of balance.

So in short, I respectfully ask you to refrain from final judgment until you see the livestream, and to keep an open mind during the event. You could change your mind depending on what they have to show.

I can’t see any logical reasoning to support that theory either. The weapon skills and the new mechanics may have synergy, but range isn’t really enough to tell if they have synergy or not, especially when we have 0 info on weapon skills for the warhorn. You’re literally talking out of your kitten , just so you’re aware.

We don’t know anything about the weapon. We clearly can’t take datamined skills as truth, after all, what about those datamined sword skills you all believed in?

At least my theory has some basis on the singularity mechanic, unlike other wishful thinkers. We also know that anet likes to “innovate” with HoT and since warhorns are mid-long range supportive weapons I cannot expect the same with the tempest warhorn.

Datamined singularity wasn’t some kind of placeholder and it’s relatively new one. Too close to the release to be remade into something else.

Yeah, but still, something like range and numbers could easily be tweaked before release, I mean look at when they changed the range on necro locust swarm or ranger shortbow?

Yeah its a theory, but I don’t see how the singularity is indicative of the weapon skills. You make a case with evidence that doesn’t necessarily relate. It could be, or it couldn’t be, but we have no real connection between weapon skills and the singularity to suggest either way.

We all need to calm down and reserve final judgement until after the livestream. Although to be fair, the QQ is pretty pointless. Look at all the negative dragonhunter feedback, that far eclipses the tempest feedback so far. Yeah, maybe they’ll make some small tweaks before release but they’re not going to completely change the weapon type, and make new skills and traits after they’ve already made them. so therefore, the complaints on this forum, won’t matter much in the longrun, besides letting them know you want a sword next time.

I’m not going to trust anything until we get the mechanics of how the Tempest will work.
I am disappointed because endgame is about skins and how you look, warhorns are small and most of them just look blah! I’d be happier if we were getting swords because there are so many great skins for them.

Some people maybe happy with WH or disappointed, but it will really come down to the skills. But still I like to constantly make my character look as awesome as possible and WH just isn’t going to cut it!!

I’m not going to comment saying warhorn is good, but i’ve look though warhorn skins and I like a few. My only problem is the l-skills we are going to get, and that is what I don’t like about warhorn.

But we don’t even know the skills yet. And please don’t say WH has to have X or Y types of skill… : /

not saying anything about the warhorn skills right now i’m more interested in the L-Skills (Left Skills, Heal, 3 Utility, Elite).

The Horn might turn out a Hyper-offensive Off-hand meant for sustained DPS, something that the Elementalist is currently lacking.

We have staff for that. And any offhand that would make the new build rival the sustained dps of staff would be borderline OP (wait, no, it would be just plain OP).
For Ele, we do not need several different weapon sets doing the same thing. What we need is weapons for different playstyles. Warhorn is unlikely to supply that.

Actually, the Stormcaller mouthpiece is a HoM skin.

Mouthpiece had no power of its own, you needed the whole horn to have any effect.
You might as well ask for a pocket pistol with a firepower of an EotM supercannon.

Name 1 major thing that the elementalist is “severely” deficient in that a new weapon could fix?

Thats how it worked for the other classes (like necro needing GS for having no cleave) but I don’t think it will work like that on elementalist simply because it is versatile enough to not be severely deficient in anything. You won’t have everything on one weaponset due to no weapon swapping, but every main gameplay style is already there on the ele as a whole.

Personally I see the warhorn as having mobile/cascading AoEs that move with you, so you can have on one build, the AoE potential of a staff, along with the sustained damage, cleave, and PbAoE of the MH dagger.

The ele is in such a great spot right now that I can’t think of one thing that they desperately need to be better overall.

—> The only niche missing for ele off-hand is something condi.

This. I know its unpopular for many, but 900 range condi power in fire/earth will be the trick to find a spot.

Fire: 900 flame burst + 900 firestorm
Air: group swiftness + gust
Water: group vigor + Ice storm
Earth: 900 poison shard (6s 2 stacks bleed + poison instant on a 12s cooldown) + magnetic wave variant that bleeds instead of criple.

this dosen´t bring completly new things, but it would fit between focus and dagger.

It won´t have a fire field. It will have less direct damage. It won´t have the invul from focus. But it will have good condi support.
And if you don´t like condi damage, don´t use it.

If you designed something with 180 range it’s almost certain it’s going to be something like a pbaoe or a small cone. Changing numbers isn’t trivial in that case.

This weapon is linked to the tempest, its probably going to provide something new and refreshing to an extent. My guess is aoe cc/dps from long range, wait for it, in the form of CONJURED MAIN HAND WEAPONS. Thats my dream anyway.

every #5 skill is a summon that replaces the main hand weapon in combat until you swap attunements. The most powerful one could be in water so you had to trade off heal potential for major dmg while keeping a balance.

Look at the picture of the tempest which gw2 used as a teaser, not only is the tempest holding a warhorn, shes also summoning something, in her main hand.

This would make ele soo much more interesting!

Given that we have precident of ANet utilising weapons differently on different classes (Necro Axe, Mesmer Greatsword, Ranger Axe, etc), why is there so much hate for Wh when we don’t even have a clue what it will do yet, and Anet said any class that just gets an offhand will also be getting new mechanics added.

Because we don’t need another offhand with 50s long cooldown skills.

We need a melee main hand. Dagger is a mid range skirmish weapon, scepter is also a mid range skirmish weapon, and staff is long range artillery.

People also live under the false assumption that elite specs are meant to “fix” a class or some such. What any elite spec is set out to do is to change and add something new and fresh to the class. But for any elite spec to be in a healthy place it NEEDS to compete with the rest of the class. Since off hands for ele are very much defining the weapon set, the warhorn can provide a different experience much easier than any mainland.

That’s not to say that sword is out or anything, that means that instead of asking for a sword because its melee or because of “bad” main hands, you should plea to fix those weapons as opposed to asking for a different weapon to do the same thing better, to merely trash the previous option aside.

Two main reasons I ’m not hyped, with the second reason being based on expectations:

1 Warhorn skins are simply ugly. In a game where aethestics are quite important this one is huge for me.

2 If it is a traditional off hand and doesn’t incentive bursty pvp builds and more skilled play imma be dissapointed.

I’m kinda sad that it is offhand, just because dagger OH is beautiful for every attunement in my opinion.
Ring of fire for a fire field and the #5 skill to nuke enemies down in fire
Frost aura for chill and cleansing wave for a heal and condi cleanse in water
Updraft and ride the lightning in air for a knockdown, a chase down, and swiftness in air
And finally earth quake as a blast finisher and knock down, and churning earth as a blast finisher, 6 stacks of bleed and massive damage.

I’m excited for more storms! hehe

Seems like the only people excited about wh are the ones who would like to call storms.

Go count how many skills already alow ele to do that.

Exactly, I seriously don’t understand why there is a minority that is excited with the prospect of playing the exact same style for another long period (until a new spec is made) – possibly even in a dumbed down format with a likely mechanic that promotes not using your class mechanic, but just attune camping.

i’d love to see the numbers on this saying people who like the warhorn are in a minority. Also, since you alrready know the exact playstyle it will give mind giving us some insight in the spec? i mean they haven’t revealed anything about it yet but you seem so knowledgable.

seriously tho, can we please wait on judging the gameplay of the new spec till we actualy have some information on it?

It almost sounds like you’re saying that, because ANet doesn’t listen and ignored people’s feedback on the DH, people should just shut up and get on with it.
Excuse me, last time I checked we played games to have fun. And if questionable choices are made which impact said function of having fun for us, we should obviously say so. It’s up to ANet whether to listen to their customers, not you to tell people to shut up and blindly accept things we do not like, like we’re hypnotised fanboys or something.

Pretty much everyone, including myself, has said they reserve judgment until Friday, so no idea what you’re on about anyways. Except of course that nothing can really make me forget the ugly, primitive horn stuck to my character’s side, no matter how epic the rest of the spec. Unless they can bring something revolutionary and completely mindblowing to the table (and bring out a truckload of warhorns which do not even resemble warhorns, which is rather pointless) my hype is dead… And even then.. I imagine after Friday it will at best be in critical condition.

What I would like to discuss, is the idea that another off hand is a bad choice because the dagger and focus are already good options and the current main hand weapons feel lackluster in comparison.

Fair argument. I think it has to do with the nature of Elementalist’s attunements and that they have so many skills, it’s more difficult to balance them well. Mainhand seems lackluster because they’re low cooldown skills that you have easy access to via attunement swapping therefore they feel more bland when they are watered down. Offhand skills are more prominent because they are meant to be powerful long cooldown skills (that are still watered down for ele, however it doesn’t feel as bad since they are still decent).

I bet, had ele got sword mainhand, many would still be very disappointed because the 12 skills we get would have mainly lackluster skills with only 3-4 good ones whereas on the offhand warhorn, we’re only getting 8 and even if only 4 are really good, that’s half the skills being game changers vs 1/3 of the mainhand sword being good.

I can see it going either way. Sword could have been cool or it could have been crap and Warhorn could be powerful or it could be lame. But I was rooting for warhorn for a long time. I even made suggestions for an offhand warhorn for ele 2 years ago! (along with sword offhand, longblow and others). Still think most people’s funk is unfounded.

I can’t understand why ppl complain when they haven’t even seen the skill set yet. Not to mention why would you want another close range dagger-like weapon… Warhorn seems interesting.

Why would you want another close range dagger-like offhand or another ranged focus-like offhand?

You have not seen the skills yet so you’re just speculating. Focus is very defensive offhand with basically 2 useful range skills, rest are self-cast. Dagger offhand is again very close range weapon. We will see what warhorn brings, but ppl complain without even seeing it. For real, go run a bit or something instead complain complain complain all day…

The problem isn’t that eles can’t adapt and probably even expectations aren’t the issue.

I see three major problems with warhorn:

1) It’s an offhand and we already have two well working offhands(both got minor issues but in general they are fine). What we do not have is proper ranged main hand. Scepter as is sucks and there is no way around it. That leaves us with just 1 main hand and 3 off hands which is gross disproportion.

2) Animations and skins – many people for some unknown reason care for such things and warhorn is worst in game in this department.

3) People are afraid that warhorn skills will be predictable and dull – which ofc can be true for any weapon.

I just want to say that I am absolutely LOVING the concept of warhorn-wielding Tempests.

I want to make sure ANET knows that there are some of us that are very very happy. I’ve been waiting for a warhorn on ele since launch. Horns have a history of magical properties in a lot of mythology, for instance Gabriel’s Horn, the horns that brought down the walls of Jericho, and last (but not least) STORMCALLER! It’s not much of a stretch, to be honest. The only thing I could grant you, and very reasonably so, is that Stormcaller is tied pretty strictly to the Human kingdom of Ascalon from GW1. Perhaps it would have been more lore-worthy to have Guardians get the Warhorn rather than Elementalists, but, eh.

I guess my point is, it’s not completely irrelevant; horns in the lore have been able to bring storms and Elementalists are well known for their elemental magic.

So what does everyone think?:D

Yeah, really disappointed (like I was already). I like the idea of the overloading attunements, but warhorn still sucks (at least until we get a better main hand weapon, and get to see what the other skill are) and the skills don’t make me want to use them (still prefer my glyph of storms and ice bow…). Some of those traits though… (need the rest of them though)

…overloading an attunement has a 20-second recharge and will set that attunement on the same recharge, 15 seconds if you have the trait “Harmonious Conduit” equipped.

Now that I’ve read that, not really liking the overload I like being able to swap attunements pretty quickly.

Jumping around attunements is a big part why Eles are so fun for me,so locking yourself out one for 20s dosen’t seem all that great to me.
Will have to see it in action but not super impressed.

20 seconds CD is “scary”, I’ll wait and see how powerful these spells are.
I like shouts though.

omg im so happy they brought the exhaustion mechanic back from guild wars 1.

Casting insanely powerful spells with a drawback so you had to use it at the right moment.
I miss the times where Gale had no cool down in GW1 but used exhaustion instead : D

Really? Because exhaustion seems to only apply to the ele like always. Other classes get better mechanics.

Its the risk and reward play style I like.

Except this is 90% risk.,getting locked out of your skills for 20 secs does not sound very rewarding. Especially given how terrible a lot of weapon skills are, but hey what do i know. Some people enjoy pain others do not.

Looks like close range spec, just like I speculated based on the datamined singularity.

The only thing I don’t like is that you can be interrupted while overcharging, and Karl is saying overcharging can take 2.5-5seconds (with a channeling animation) where you can be interrupted and when that happens it auto goes on cool down.

With all the interrupts flying around you have to use them very strategically and a lot of cases will be interrupted.

So these spells better be nothing short then amazing otherwise your right when saying the risk is much higher then the reward.

I like the fact that Warhorn will provide a control-oriented option for Ele because currently the only way for Ele to clump mobs together is Earth Shield Conjure, the conjure itself is rarely use in all game modes.

Depends on how much damage/control/support Overload mechanic provides, it may or may not worth the wait and long Attument recharge rate.

The utility skills are uninspiring I think, not enough “wow” when I read about them.
