New Improved World XP
We’re improving the way we award World XP to World vs. World players! Now you’ll gain rewards for a much wider range of activities in the Mists – everything from destroying siege weapons, repairing walls, escort missions, and more!

Any love for support style builds on this front? If I build my character 90% around boons/nondmging conditions/heals, am I still SOL?

To be more specific: is xp for kills still based solely on doing damage?

I think so. But at least the cap for getting XP is very low. Even with support builds you hardly ever need more than 2/3 auto attacks. It’s not a perfect system but it’s very hard to participate and not get credit.

If it’s like 20 laurels and 250 or 500 badges for 1 amulet, then that’s completely bullkitten.
If it’s something like 10 laurels and 100-200 badges, then, that will be interesting.
Also, concerning the infusions, wait and see, hope there will be cool ones.

I think badge cost should definitely be 500+. I’m world rank 30 or so, and have over 2000 unused badges even though I already spent ~800. Since a lot of people played a lot more WvW than I have, both before and after rank got introduced, 100-200 would be a ridiculously low amount for ascendeds. Even PvE players would probably go for the WvW ones then, since doing the JP for badges would be faster than doing fractals / more dailies.

I basically used up all my badges on siege… now to start saving badges and buying siege with gold or JP???

Nice update Anet. But I wonder about these: better squad system and better commander system.
If I remember correctly, some updates to commander were announced few months ago.

Srsly though, guys. Even if all changes aren’t well received, it’s really great to see WvW getting some love lately. Keep up the great work.

It was pretty much ignored for 10 months… in which a very high % of hardcore pvpers left the game… hopefully this is not a case of too little too late.

The game has only been out for 8 months. They’ve actively been making changes to it for two months now, which means they’ve been working on those changes for a lot longer than that.

A high percentage of hardcore pvpers change games every few months anyway. Look at prx as an example. Pretty sure they never play a game for more than 6-8 months.

Sounds like hardcore easymode hoppers to me. Hardcore pvpers stay for years. Look at games like quake, CS (shudder), eve, and so on. People have played these for 10+ years, and the competition is still as strong as ever, if not stronger.

At the begining of a game’s lifetime, everyone is still learning. At that point in time, it’s very easy to kill the majority of the player base. I know, I’ve been there many times. You join a server, and just go 30:1 kill/death ratio. It even happened in GW2 spvp when it launched.

Later on, when the people that learn slower but still hit the skill level necessary for competitive play (either because they’re simply slower learners, or they simply play less, or whatever other reason), and getting a kill in pvp actually means you have to do more than spam heartseeker, these so-called “hardcore pvpers” flee for the next game.

So once again I have nothing to spend my badges on. Why do we have to use laurels and ectos for accessories and when will we ever be able to get a non fractal ascended back piece?

How about you let us trade badges for laurels, ectos and fractal tokens. You might not see a mass exodus.

Actually based on his post there seem to be Ascended items that will cost badges.

Most Everyone has amulets and rings already. I’m talking accessories and back pieces.

For last 6 updates I wrote into forum this question: will there be better grouping system? Party of 5 or invisible squad system is not enought.
But seems like 15 minute instanced PvE mission are important than grouping in MMO.

No. Cost should not be insane. The reason ? It must stay acessible to people, just as were and are laurels. Laurels are insanely hard to get in that you can’t have more than 40 within a month BUT they are pretty easy and fast to obtain (completing a daily of monthly does not require a big time investment.
The same should go for WvW. Furthermore, it would create a huge imbalance from one server to another : huge queues = you’re kittened, deserted server = you’re kittened …
I’ve spent a moderate time in WvW sitting around lv 50, which is still quite a lot and I only have earned something like 1250 badges. Add to this what I’ve spent with siege weapons. Let’s say it goes up to 1500 badges, taking into account the time I’ve spent before the Wxp.
Now, you see that it’s not a lot.
Now imagine a player who can only play 1-2 hours a day max, he would be totally kittened because, even when you tag a lot of your opponents and take objectives, you still don’t get that many badges.
The cost should be fair as is that of laurels.

Looks like your idea of “fair” is that no matter how long someone plays per day or on what server he(/she) is, he should be able to get ascendeds just as fast as everyone else. If that’s so, then your post makes sense. My idea of “fair” is quite different.

Also, to all the people who spent their badges on siege etc: You always knew ascendeds would come to WvW some day, and you always knew there was a (high) chance that badges would be (part of) the cost for them. So if you chose to spend all your badges on other stuff, that’s fine, but imo you have no right to complain now then.

Yay more kitten siege mastery crap, and on oil the most worthless siege of all since the walls are made so poorly there is no way to use the oil and not die in 10 seconds. More ranks in defense against guards…. who comes up with this stuff? Whoever it is should play WvW a bit. Pro tip, no one cares about damage from guards.

WvW Matchup Changes!
Have to see how it works, but to me this seems like it is just going to create blowouts, some server will dominate or be dominated based on being in a tier they should not. When you create a system where coverage is so important, mixing up servers seems like a bad idea.

Thank you for giving us rings and amulets after we have all long since earned them via the other methods. Why is WvW not getting something unique and more importantly if you were just giving us rings and amulets why the kitten didn’t it come out in November when you promised it?

I am looking for a good patch, a WvW patch that actually improves the game for those of us that have no interest in spamming 1-3 on a piece of siege, those of desperately wanting quality play. I want my friends to come back to the game because a patch wow’s them. This patch looks just as junky as the last two.

Quake had neither. It only became an “e-sport” with rl money involved AFTER it proved itself, after years of people playing it competitively, and the third game has been released. And if you have a quick look at quake live, you’ll see that same third game still being played by some ridiculously good players.

First must come the game, then it has to prove itself to become an e-sport. WAR failed, allegedly. I don’t know why, I haven’t played it. GW2 has all the chances, and it’s up to us, the players, to make it happen. ANet can only supply us the game, it’s up to us to play it. And easy mode hoppers that leave when 1% of the player base catches up to their level+gear+skill surely aren’t the ones that will help make it into a well known game, are they.

It says ascended amulets and rings will be entering WvW, but what about back items?. I don’t want to do a fractal to get a condensed mist and then farm countless hours to craft the ascended back item. Now, I am very happy about ascended items finally coming to WvW, but will we ever see WvW exclusive skins? As of now, there is just one armor skin which you can get in WvW, which isn’t bad, but i would like some more variety. A few WvW exclusive weapon skins would be nice too. Most importantly, trinkets of stats other than soldier. WvW isn’t rewarding at all. In fact, I lose money most of the time when upgrading and buying seige blueprints. So if we can buy more things with badges of honour, like berserker’s or knight’s trinkets, it would be appreciated. The idea is to make badges of honour a WvW currency like how coins is the PVE currency.

You will get 2 at 14 and every level thereafter upto 26, then back to 1 per rank after that…so yes you will get all your chests backdated…

It stops at level 60 thou. so the guy at rank 140 misses out on 80 chests I believe…that will teach him on being a no life WvW player…

Actually I think you misunderstood how it will work.

What will happen is that everyone will get chests retroactively.
Those that have more than rank 60 will be getting 2 chests per rank up until they have filled the over rank 60 ranks, and then go back to get one chest per rank.

Since the chests are based on rank it is highly likely that you will only get the retroactive chests by playing the main.

I’m fairly sure that the character who is rank 155 will be getting 2 chests per level for his next 154 wxp levels, and the other character who has however many ranks will receive 2 chests for however many ranks he has gained up until this point independently from the first character. The wxp totals and rewards are character-bound, so it would make most sense that any retroactive rewards would follow suit.

There’s always more badges! I bought just over 40 golems and a new set of armor after the last patch brought nothing too exciting, but I have another ~1000 badges waiting for this patch already… hoping that’ll be enough for a piece or two!

I suspect the backlog is character-specific. to get your main’s backlog cleared, you’re probably going to have to rank up your main some more.

I know this wasn’t deliberate, but this backlog idea has turned into yet another reason not to rank up alts. While I understand some of the reason for this, it doesn’t make it any less annoying (I have 3 level 80’s myself).

I don’t think this is true. 60 was just an example number that was used, but I haven’t seen any post from Arenanet claiming there is really an upper limit (although if there is an upper limit, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be 250).

Good question. I have 5 different characters I play for wvw, all with a rank between 5 and 10. This would mean 50 reward chests for me?

Aww I spent all my laurels on the amulet and rings… looks like I should’ve bought the accessories. And so my endless pile of badges continues to grow.

Sorry but there’s no way you have ‘endless piles of badges’. I kit most of my characters out with WvW weapons, since the other ones either require 390 dungeon tokens or 5 gold. I don’t have any badges in abundance, certainly not when I’ll need to buy ascended jewelry with them.

You’ll find me with the group of players that have been unhappy lately with ANet’s direction of WvW. However, thieves and stealth aren’t that big of a problem. They have been nerfed repeatedly and there are much bigger issues that need addressing. The thief class is very good at what it is supposed to do. The problem is that a lot of people hate what it is designed for. Most builds and people are perfectly capable of defending themselves against ganking thieves even with all their stealth. So basically it is very hard for them to kill you. Their stealth and mobility skills also make it very hard for them to get killed. So there is a little balance in that. The one big advantage that thieves have is that they can always choose when to engage or disengage from a fight. People seem to really hate that. I think that that is just what this class is meant to do, it fits them perfectly. They are meant to be annoying and slippery.

And as far as this particular update goes I’ll repeat myself. Most of the things here sound promising but I have faith that ANet will find a way to disappoint me, they have proven quite proficient at it.

P.S. no need to use capitals an all those words, it is distracting and comes across as quite agressive, same goes for excessive use of putting words in bold.

P.P.S. I rarely play a thief (have less than 20 hours with it in WvW) so if you are going to call my opinion on thieves biased based on that, please don’t. I do rarely refer to thieves without another word that would get censored on this forum but as I said, they are meant to be annoying.

This probably wont cost a lot of badges either. They are currently worth about 1s each based on the 1g for a golem blueprint, or 100 badges. Anet has an economist and he knows that Ectos trade for around 20s, and you can also get ascended gear with laurels and 50 ectos.

Run the arithmaticky that we all learned in school and I expect ascended gear to come in around 1k badges. That’s not a lot for an active WvW player, plus we’ve been told that Ectos will drop from WvW chests. Even at a “reduced cost” the limiting factor is still the laurels, and what’s on offer.

This sounds exciting… i really hope it is a one up, one down system that replaces the current system… fingers crossed (GH, Dzag – you might be able to kill me now 1v1)

What is with all these people who have stacks of badges… do you not spend them on siege? Sounds like a lot of selfish players out there expecting the guilds and commanders to provide all the siege.

I’ve just always spent gold instead, hoping that one day there would be use for badges beyond purchasing siege or getting gear for alts.

It will still be ridiculously lopsided. The difference between even a single tier are MASSIVE. Remember the QQ from tier 8 when SF was stomping it? It will be like that for every matchup, every week….

Love how everyone here is so concerned with gear, that wont really make any impact on wvw… but aren’t discussing a game breaking change that they are implementing.

Its more than likely a glicko volatility adjustment (as in making it more volatile) with an introduction of a winners/losers medium marker to act as a soft reset on stagnating glicko. The problem with the current system is that glicko 2 is too easily stagnated by “winning by a lot” and punishes servers that win a lot by forcing them to win by even more the following week lest they be trapped in their tier forever. Even just adding much more volatility to the system would not fix this sort of an issue if the gap between tiers and, subsequently, the gap between teams in the tier itself, is so large that there’s simply not way to break the mold without divine intervention.

By adding a winners/losers medium, servers that are “stuck” winning by landslides for several weeks will circumvent their stagnating glicko and be pushed up a tier while servers who are trapped in oppressive landslide losses (EU T1) will be able to leave the tier without having to throw matches and hope that the tier below them wins by massive amounts. This acts as a soft-reset on the glicko as the moment the team rises or falls, their glicko will have to adjust accordingly to the new tier and, naturally, after the adjustment will be extremely volatile whereupon a team that cannot compete in the next tier up will quickly fall back into place. This will result in some yo-yoing but it will allow for servers to have breathing room whether it be up or down without having to “play the rating game” for weeks on end as they are forced to do now.

Yes, you’ll get lopsided matches… but you already have lopsided matches. And teams that are winning by landslides could use a change of pace where they actually face opposition even if its a very steep change in competition between tiers.

I don’t think you have any idea what you’re talking about. They are meatshields but the dynamic of the class (ie. it doesn’t have one because of its linearity) is one of the easiest to counter and is the reason they are non-existant in tPvP.

Actually a more volatile system will bring more uneven matches and not fix the problems. The real problem is the game rewards numbers and coverage. The only way to fix the problem with the ppt system is to have the wvw population evenly distributed on all servers or have the ppt entirely not rewarding numbers/coverage. For example +/- % from ppt at each tick based on the population gap in wvw among the 3 servers. The server with more players in wvw at that tick gets -% ppt based on how many extra players and so on. Probably attracting more people in WvW from PvE with enticing rewards would be the easiest way.

By gods yes… give us a decent grouping system that’s flexible for all players and guild styles. Allow guild only or private squad systems for coordinating multiple groups that don’t want to zerg and invite everyone on the map.

For last 6 updates I wrote into forum this question: will there be better grouping system? Party of 5 or invisible squad system is not enought.
But seems like 15 minute instanced PvE mission are important than grouping in MMO.

I posted so many times since BW1 about the inferior grouping systems, even linked other peoples suggestions in a massive feedback thread. At a certain point it seemed pointless. We seemed to be funneled into zergs and that’s they way they want it.

It’s like ordering a coffee… you are forced to get a small (5 man) or extra large (commander & zerg) coffee. If you want to order a medium coffee then you are out of luck….. even if all your friends and guild mates like medium coffees. Why not have all sizes and let the players decide what works for them?

This! Pretty ridiculous that its only available via 1 method.

Except it isn’t, you can make them in the mystic forge.

OK then change that to aren’t available at a reasonable cost without going into fractals.

1) badges are kitten easy to get on high tiers, this is so you can buy lots of siege.
2) waaaay too many people are stuffed senseless with badges and are too selfish too buy lots of siege and want rewards for themselves, aka ascended items.

He wasn’t specific, but I suspect he was talking about just badges (or more broadly, not laurels or some other time gated resource). Requiring laurels for all of your ascended purchases in addition to badges changes very little, especially when WvW players were able to obtain laurels at the same rate as everyone else. What’s worse is you’ve decided to make accessories exempt from these changes (at 40 laurels + ecto each, this change will mean relatively nothing for most players).

The most desirable (by far) method of obtaining rings will still be FotM for anyone that can stand to PvE in dungeons (admittedly this excludes a lot of WvW people). It’s not even close to WvW badges + laurels. The best method of obtaining accessories will still be guild missions. Amulets might become slightly easier to acquire but aside from the players who can’t stand to run 20 FotM dailies (and that’s a lot of people, to be fair), you’ve changed very little.

The reality is, you’ve increased the laurel pressure on WvW people. They might get cheaper amulets and rings (those who hadn’t already purchased theirs) but now they continue to compete with resources from rings, accessories and WvW infusions. A lot of players will now feel even more pressure to have a main and feel like an alt is a waste of time and resources.

Everything in this patch was obtainable without leaving WvW in the past. Amulets were always available for just laurels, same for rings and the accessories. You’ve even increased the pressure for laurels by adding WvW infusions. Depending on how much weight is carried by the badges in the pricing of these items (say 10 laurels and 250 badges for an amulet instead of 30 laurels) this will probably just put more strain on laurel resources.

I feel like the original quote still stands. You can’t buy Ascended gear with badges. You need badges + laurels. I don’t think you delivered on this quote.
