Wow, so I got hit by the banhammer as well…
For botting apparently…
I just hope I’ll get my account back before the 15th…If I don’t have my account back before the 15th, I’ll scream.
If I don’t get my account by the 15th I’m out. No joke, if I am not back in the game like I should be, since I have done nothing wrong, then its time to look for something else. I would be too pissed that I lost out on the Lost Shore update to continue.
Right there with you. I can honestly say I haven’t had any issues with this game or ANet since purchasing it in September, but I’m starting to feel a bit jaded. Let’s be honest, they are clearly not working as hard on this issue as they should be, or this thread wouldn’t be full of angry and disappointed customers having the same problems over the course of several days.

me and my wife both were suspended at the same time. ( I guess you are not supposed to group together for fear of someone reporting you as a botter). Submitted two tickets, one for each of our accounts. I received emails in a timely manner and I am back in after only 24 hours. My wife is still waiting for any response and still can not play.

Do you understand that by stating that this system doesn’t exist it leaves only one option: incompetence from an employee.
What is worse? Having a “glitch” in a program or having an incompetent employee who is banning people left and right?
And I can assure you that there IS some part of the system that is automated. Whether it is tallying up reports, logging user data, coordinate locations, etc, it must be automated. If not, you would be seeing bots banned in quantities of dozens rather than thousands.

Well I don’t know for certain that they aren’t considering it an issue, they could very well be dealing with it in the dark….however the fact that people continue to get banned makes me think they aren’t dealing with it because if I was in their shoes and I knew of such a thing happening I would 1st stop the banning and THEN work on getting it fixed. If they are trying to fix it but have decided to start with the latter then it only further makes me believe that this is all due to their incompetence.

The Support Team will be examining each of your tickets and will help you. I’m trying to ascertain if there’s an issue with purchases. So far I cannot see that to be the case, but I will use the information that you share — the answers to the five questions above — to look into the matter further.

Almost all players in kassex hill region, Stormbluff isle server were got permanent banned about an hour ago due to botting and macro. Hahahahaha. Epic management skill there.
THIS IS A PLACE WHERE BOTS GO TO BOT = WE SHOULD BAN EVERYONE THERE!
haha.. I was just leveling my alt mesmer with 4 other guild members.
Are those other guild members banned as well ?
Yes, all of them including their friend who was playing with us.

We know there are false positives. When you’re banning thousands, there is some chance that an innocent player will be banned. We regret that deeply, and we work constantly to improve the processes (which are not automatic, by the way) to avoid false positives.
So if they are indeed automatic (Completely stupid.) then someone indeed has had incompetence. As well as outright lied to the player base.

Our issue here is the fact that it was said there was so few false positives and that a lot of us were botters. For someone that has never done and will never do such things and then seeing so many decent people here begging for their accounts back seems to make me think otherwise.

Thank you again Gaile for another day of hard work on a day off. I was wondering because when I was banned and I did not know how to submit tickets properly I sent in more than one. Is there anyway to delete the other ones so that I wont have to wait as long? I wish I found this forum first, but I saw submitting a ticket first.

This does not seem to be the way the fraud purchased accounts are being handled. They are being closed. So while I waited to recover the account with the new A-Net purchased code, I was just wasting my time based on your information. But at least you are trying, the only response from investigation team has been an automated response, even the one closing the account. The statements in the response did not reflect the information in the ticket, so one would assume the easy path is to just close the account and send the automated response “please by another copy of GW2”

Well, first, thanks but this is my work day, so I’m just doing what I do. Kind thoughts are appreciated, though.
Secondly, you can close out any ticket that you created. If you open the ticket in the Support interface, you can close it yourself and keep the first ticket open. Now, if you have new info, you can add it to your first ticket and the agents will see that as they review the case.

This is something I’m pursuing, because there has been a change and the team has explained why, and I understand the change, but I want to see if we can continue to review on a case-by-case basis and allow some players to resume play on the existing account.
Unfortunately, words, once posted, are hard to take back. What I said was accurate at the time, but in the fluid development of best-practices for support, that has changed. I’m very sorry for any confusion caused by the changes, and I’ll see what I can learn about this in the next couple of days.

We know you have been on the forums alot, AS many of us Have been on all last night, and the entire day. I personally have been on these forums 12 hours straight today.
However when we see a new group of people banned for the same reason (a few hours ago) it tends to lead us to think that it is pretty much business as usual at NCSoft. As I mentioned earlier today it is understandable that your efforts are focused on fixing the billing issue as it could affect trading market, and the new accounts.
But we have not even heard the update on that. And there has been a few suggestions on what could of happened.
I know it is hard for NCSoft to contact your bank today as we are all closed, and I am not sure you would have access that information on what the communication is between NCSoft and the bank, or the CC vendor.
Unless you are 100% positive that the maintenance in the billing system did not change the formatting of the data file you are sending to your cc vendor or bank, I would start there.
We see this alot where a customer changes the data format being sent to us and when we try to process it thru our Mainframe system to update the customer accounts it gets messed up and is kicked out of the system to maintain processing.
Your bank would have logs of that.
sorry I have just seen alot of this kinda error.
Back to the issue. it is very very frustrating to be sitting here in the dark nothing to do but watch a forum. As such we find ways to laugh, and to cry and to vent.
We do not mean to offend any single person but we do need to vent at the company in whole Cause this is being poorly managed in many peoples eyes.

For God’s sake ANet — Your error message says I am banned for BOTTING. How can you even say that Gaile? I understand you are trying to help us and it isn’t your fault that all of this is happening but we aren’t pissed off about what happened.

I am sure every single person on the forums right now thanks you for a job well done. You are the only person communicating with Arena Net’s customer base and that is the problem. Someone needs to make an official statement saying that somewhere, something or someone screwed up.
That’s all we are asking for, and for you guys to get us fixed in time for the content patch… though some free gems for the lack of playtime wouldn’t hurt

I would also like to ask if A-net is utilizing any of the banking fraud services to investigate the hundreds of offers on ebay and other sources that are selling the game. I seems that if these could only have been purchased fraudulently to be sold at those prices, would it not be more productive to go to the source and eliminate the problems there. This would greatly reduce the number of tickets involving fraudulent purchases and take the burden off players who are paying real money for a bogus product. I do know the vendor I purchased from, refunded my money and pulled his remaining stock from auction after I contacted him. I would assume he lost a large amount of money as well.

Tin foil hat idea: maybe they just nuke an area with bans knowing legitimate players will most likely launch tickets and work on retrieving their accounts whereas the bot operators just see it as cost/risk of doing business and move on without fighting the ban?

Still, how can they justify removing access to something you paid for. There are a hundred different ways to handle the bot problem. No other game seems to have to take these drastic measures.
Why on Earth would ArenaNet? I’m sure they have talented people working for them… this shouldn’t be this big of an issue.

If I don’t get my account by the 15th I’m out. No joke, if I am not back in the game like I should be, since I have done nothing wrong, then its time to look for something else. I would be too pissed that I lost out on the Lost Shore update to continue.
Right there with you. I can honestly say I haven’t had any issues with this game or ANet since purchasing it in September, but I’m starting to feel a bit jaded. Let’s be honest, they are clearly not working as hard on this issue as they should be, or this thread wouldn’t be full of angry and disappointed customers having the same problems over the course of several days.
Not working hard enough on the issue? I’m pretty sure they don’t even view it as such unfortunately. More people got banned today and It will continue to happen until they own up to their mistakes and decide to actually fix this mess.
Yikes. Yeah, I was starting to get really disheartened as to the lack of any sort of official response on the matter, but I wasn’t aware that they aren’t considering it a real issue. Good to know that ANet has become another company that forgets their customers exist once money changes hands.
We assuredly are considering this a important issue, and I’ve been posting on this thread for two days, so there definitely have been official responses.
Our issue here is the fact that it was said there was so few false positives and that a lot of us were botters. For someone that has never done and will never do such things and then seeing so many decent people here begging for their accounts back seems to make me think otherwise.
This is a rumour that you need to stop circulating. Yes, you and everyone else who has said it!
No one has said “A lot of you are botters.” We have said “Some of the people posting here are botters.” And that is 100% true!
Please don’t twist a gentle “Keep in mind that not all of these appeals are legitimate” into a “All of you are bad people” because no one is saying that!
I apologise if what I said was twisting words, I am as you can probably see frustrated that I have had to wait almost 3 days for a “bot” response and I am still not able to play, not because I did something wrong but because someone somewhere screwed up and banned me. So you can see that when you say thing like “some people who are posting here are botters” could offend me, if a-net has banned me for “botting” it is because they consider me to be one or I would’nt have been banned in the first place.
I completely understand and sympathize with your frustration.
Thank you, it is certainly nice to actually hear (read) from an actual person and although it might not have seemed like it I really appreciate you coming on here to answer and help us with these issues. I hope you weren’t offended by anything I may have said as I was venting in general and not directly at you.

I know, their people on the forums seem to be very professional but I think those CSRs behind the scenes are underpaid severely overworked bunch perhaps. My ban is not yet a day old so i’m still waiting. hopefully this can be sorted out before the nov15 event. Been looking forward to that.

I’d like to throw my two cents in, just because I can. I bought my copy of the game on Saturday. I played for an HOUR on Saturday before I was banned. Clearly, I am not a bot, nor do I have know how at this point to manipulate the system through the use of macros.
As a new user to the game, this is more than frustrating, this is getting to be infuriating. I feel like I have wasted sixty-dollars to watch my husband enjoy playing his copy of the game, while I sit around waiting to hear from support.
To add to my frustration tonight, we have seen someone else on my account, and when my husband has tried to interact with that person, they have logged off. I have updated my ticket with the new information but still have not received a response.
This is not a good way to build relationships with customers. Either new or existing customers. You don’t treat your customers like criminals FIRST and then go around investigating them after. You treat them with respect and dignity and find other ways to clamp down on bots, gold sellers and the problems of MMO’s.
I don’t want to get my account unbanned and have to worry about the possibility of having it happen again down the road, for no good reason. Because during an hour of gameplay, there is nothing that I could have done, that could be that suspicious to outright ban me.
I’m disappointed that the support system doesn’t offer a concrete timeframe for an initial response. “shortly” and “ASAP” are not proper timeframes for a response. There should also be some other method for contact besides e-mail only. Waiting for an e-mail is ridiculous. Blizzard offers a phone line, and even if it wasn’t a perfect system there, and maybe long wait times on the phone, at least I always had the opportunity to speak with a person if I had the time to wait it out. Especially with something as delicate as my account. Even an online chat system would be a great alternative to waiting for an e-mail.
I work in customer service for a living. Let me just say, so far, this is the worst customer service experience I have had in a long time. Worse than Comcast, and that’s saying something.

I could be wrong here but I don’t think extended unattended play means being AFK, i think it refers to using automated stuff to run the game without the player being present so its another way of saying botting. I really dont think we get banned for AFKing right.. they usually just auto disconnect people for idling.

My account went from the banned message to “We have detected that your account may have been accessed by an unauthorised individual…” message. Interesting. No reply from the support though even though they changed the message.

This sucks. I normally play Guild Wars with my 12 year old son, and I got banned! I’ve tried filling out a trouble ticket, and got the same generic response.
On the bright side, at least they didn’t ban my son’s account.

I was banned also today few hours ago. My observation is most bans was during keyboard smashing, jumping puzzles, fighting etc. but nevernot afk!
