Network Lag [Merged]
Since the sept 18 update, I have been getting massive lag spikes whenever I’m around more than 1 or 2 other people. I have even noticed a slightly less annoying version of the spike while solo, though I can usually avoid dying when I notice the spike coming on. The lag gets particularly bad during WvWvW and if a large world event is happening. My skills are delayed 5 or more seconds, and I’m a sitting duck should someone/something decide to attack my character. The strange part about it is, that it feels as though I’m disconnecting; but as long as I let the spike play out, my system recovers and a flurry of spells/action is played out in a fast forward mode on my screen.
I am also having huge lag spikes in the last 2 days, (so maybe 9/18 also). its exactly as others describe, my character keeps moving with all my skills flashing, then it catches up with a flurry of actions. Also random DCs too. Has been driving me nuts in spvp. I would like to say its for sure on anets end however I was also having issues with vent at the same time. Theres no way the two could be related right? Has to be on my end? Any advice would be appreciated.
ANet, with over 250 posts on this thread, and I’m assuming many more in other various threads, I think we deserve an acknowledgement from you that this “Network Lag” is an issue. I think that is fair. For various reasons, we feel the issue isn’t on our end and obviously we are frustrated. Can somebody from ANet please comment on this so we at least know it is being looked into or not?

ANet , For the past 4 days i have been lagging too much in sPvp and WvW (4-9 Sec delay ) ….. i did not have the problem before ,
- My Fps is from 50-90 (max out), so its not a Pc problem
- Playing Games like LoL , WM3 , ….. etc no lag what so ever , so its not a Connection problem .
- Yesterday i win a lot of free Tournament but did not get my reward .
going to stop playing this game tell every thing is fix .
I had under 30 ping and 8/1Mbit. And in game i have good latency. No problems here at Finland at Southern Region.
i also have a crazy lag burst right away when i log in. I cannot move and about after 3 minutes i get disconnected. Weird thing is that the chat works fine.

Same problems here (heavy lagspikes, esp. in Cursed Shore and other Orr areas). This however is only happening using my ISP connection directly (which might be related to my ISP using Level 3 Communications for its US peering).
Using a VPN Connection that uses Intelliquent for its US peering everything is working like a charm (no lag at all, ping 40-190 from Germany).
Due to this I suppose this could be a network related issue and not a server one…

Since a couple of days the game’s pretty much become unplayable to me.
Like many other users here I’ve been experiencing constant lag spikes and players warping onscreen.

Terrible lags since yesterday and for now game is unplayable. Checked file transfer and it’s 4 Mb/s downloading and 2 Mb/s uploading. Earlier everything was running smoothly and without any problems.

Having horrible lag last night and today, game is almost unplayable I can often use a skill to attack an enemy and then press all my skills and it will just animate the button while I stand there for a long time.
Playing on Piken Square ( EU ) and had no problems till Tuesday. Then started getting huge amounts of lag, with latency in the 22000 – 30000 ms range. Partial traceroute :

The game is completely unplayable at the moment, and there seems to be no sign of any solution. Very disappointed.
This thread is a complete joke. Do you think customers are stupid ArenaNet? You post a one line comment about network problems, yet you do not ask for any information whatsoever.

Lag is seriously making this game unplayable. Every single PvP match whether hot join or tournaments is a lagfest, constant skill delay, rubber banding, jittering all over the place and spikes to no end. It’s been getting worse and worse and its getting under my skin.
At first I thought “ok its just launch no big deal” but now its WORSE than launch! Before it was deal-with-able, some games laggy some not, sometimes just drop out for a couple hours and you’d be ok but now every game is a lagfest. It’s frustrating.
Funny thing is PvE is perfect. Playing from UK.

Got some issues as well, bought the game on the 19th and started playing on the 20th, there were no issues the day I first started playing. Since yesterday it’s getting progressively worse for some reason, it’s barely playable today. Guild Wars 2 seems to be the only game where I get network issues, I’ve had no problems whatsoever in other games.

Massive (and when I say massive, I mean over 5 seconds and skills not working) lags for practically everyone , I asked around and everybody is reporting terrible lags. Practically unplayable.
Lags started yesterday I think.
This issue needs to be acknowledged and worked on asap, the lag is making the game unplayable and its happening every single day at primetime for numerous people.
Last two days game lags very much. its worse than on release. I am on Ring of Fire where both PvE and sPvP lags.

ANET is not giving a jack kitten about our lags and disconnection issues.
cause we already bought their game, so why bother about it.
It’s all about internet capacity and good fast routing = paying more dollars = not so good for ANET.
they will do the minimum , and wait for the storm to calm down.
after about 20-30% of their player base is gone , the lag will subside , and they will announce that they fixed the issue…LOL
you see..it’s not economical for them to have such a large players base and network infrastructure and capacity. it costs too much money for a F2P title.
it’s better to let go some of your players, then upgrading your network.

Some of those players will be us, because I haven’t had such terrible lag in any kind of game, ever, F2P or not. Frankly, I don’t care if they run Anet into the ground trying to fix this, it’s better than the current state of things. :P
the game is totally unplayable for me. I cant finish a dungeon because i get error 7 all the game and parties kick me.
I cant do wvwvw because i get error 7 and i have to queue all over again.
And the same goes for spvp or anything, i just get kicked all time from the server. And please dont tell me its my problem because i dont have this problem with any other game (tf2, torchlight 2, lol, borderlands2, killing floor, etc).
I keep getting error 7 disconnects on Yak’s Bend. It was fine for part of the day, now it’s impossible to stay on.
Okay, I have to edit out my post. Less than an hour after I complained about being kicked off constantly, my ISP had an area outage. It must have been intermittent problems. Sorry Anet.

Playing on (Piken Square) Server and have been experiencing terrible lag for the past 3 days. I sent in a ticket to support and uploaded the Test.txt and Arenanet.log as they requested and the only reply i got was the insulting (please check your router)
The problems on Whiteside Ridge (EU) are still there. I stopped playing yesterday because it was impossible and assumed it would be fixed by today – it’s not. Combat is unusable and even merchants have noticeable lag.
It doesn’t even feel like the server is busy? Please fix quickly, I only get the weekend to play and so far I haven’t been able to at all.
They have no idea how to fix this, and even world events in Orr are getting bugged with every passing day and not even one is fixed.
Getting unplayable lag – up to minutes long freezes when nothing happens (I can walk around, see people walk into walls, mobs do nothing, nobody attacks and none of my abilities nor weapon swap works) on Gunnar’s Hold from around 9pm to midnight. Friends playing from Poland at the same time in the same team on tPvP or PvE have no issues what so ever. Briefly trying to play on a different server after transferring or overflows show no such issues.

It seems the extreme network latency is back on Gunnar’s Hold. Skill activations and interacting with NPCs or gathering has a delay of 10 seconds or more.
I’m connecting via Telekom in Germany. Should I do another -diag and post it again? Is anything even being done at all for players posting in this topic?
EDIT: Character is in Queensdale at Beetletun Farms on the overflow.
There is nothing like buying a game, downloading it for a couple of hours, finally logging in, creating a character and then spending 20 minutes looking at the loading screen. Or running around in an empty forest after a reboot.
I’ve never had such an issue with any MMO game.
Completly horrible here at the moment (Desolation, from Germany, ISP: Telekom). I did the mistake to start a dungeon run with guild members and some times i had lags from start till end of a fight (including disconnects). The German forum already has a thread with over 1400 posts where people complain.
EDIT:// I think it’s over now (lag was between 18:00 CEST till about 21:40 CEST)

I have lag, too. It was only in Pve the first weeks. Pvp Was fine. Today Pvp and instances like AC are unplayable, but questing is mostly fine, except Charr starting area. It looks like partial lag problems. In some areas you have no problems while others are unplayable.
I am from germany. ISP: Telekom, server : Riverside.
It looks like internal Routing probs.

I have the same problem playing at Isle of Janthir.
Loading times takes forever and when I get lucky to get in game it has a very bad delay 10-30sec delay.
I dont know what is causing this since last week I can play without a problem. would changing world solve this issue? I dont want to try hastily with the new limit to the world change.

Tried to load a different character but everything seems fine. It is playable without a problem but when i load my other chars the problem with the lag shows up.

Still getting severe latency as of today.
I’m on Sanctum of Rall in Snowden drifts and the lag is worst than BWE2 (was it) when there was that network problem. However it’s intermittent. However, often the action stops for 3 or so seconds, then everything happens at once.
I am still having these same issues even after contacting my ISP, buying a new 3.0 cable modem and updating anything and everything possible. I am about 90% sure all my lag the last 5 days is on anets end. However is there a way to be 100% sure? Is running another game like WoW (holy father forgive me) the only way to check were the spikes are coming from?
I am on Maguuma if it matters.

I had such a awesome experience in GW 1, i was expecting so much more from Anet, so wrong.. Not even one word about this.

Same problem (lag about every 5secs to 30secs, lasting between 0.5s and 15sec with occasional disconnects; had about 4 tonight and stopped playing).I am having the exact same issue, I live in Germany and my provider is T-Com I have a 50 Mbit/s VDSL connection and I have never had any lag or connectivity issues until now.
It happens usually in the evenings yes but I never get disconnected, just really huge up to 20 sec. lag spikes with my character rubber banding all over the place. It can happen in sPVP, PVE, Instances and even story quests (Server: Desolation EU).
It is starting to get frustrating since its almost the only hours that I can actually play the game after work.
Hope you will find a solution for this soon.

As of this week the lag in the open world seems to have become better, but still getting 5-10 seconds lag spikes in instances and story quest instances. Almost unplayable.
Hello, I’ve been playing guildwars 2 for a week and everything was just fine but suddently I am having some massive lag spike problems. Currently the game is totally unplayable for me.

Having played GW2 since it was released, the last week or so, mostly after 17h gmt the lag is borderline impossible to deal with, 10 sec plus lagspikes while chat is working fine.
I know this is not a issue on my end regularly playing Torchlight 2 online games, and logging to WoW to say hi to some friends. No lag on those games.
Im on Underworld Home server. Please fix this, it is impossible to play the game as it stands.
I’ll add my name to the growing pile of people who get huge lag, but only after 5pm UK time.
Traceroute shows no problems, untill it hits your servers, then it gets pretty slow.
Other MMOs running fine for me include TSW and Planetside 2 (beta), neither of which suffer at all after 5pm.
Really am tired of lagging out while fighting monsters due to this exact same thing which has been going on for a month now. When I log back in I have to pay to respawn because I’m dead due to the lag and I shouldn’t be paying money every time to respawn either due to your network problems.
