Is another team supposed to be able reach our spawn point in Forest of Niflhel. Before the tournament even started, the other team was at our spawn point and started killing us. Because few reacted right away, while we were rezzing, it was uneven.

@Nemesis – Utils are about even at this point depending on playstyle, but I would argue that Blood is Power with about a 50% uptime of 10 stacks of might is hardly inferior to a well that has a 4-5 second duration on a 45 sec CD and can be walked out of.

@Cogbyrn – It keeps the novelty and the hopes fresh. You know, waiting for stuff to be fixed and trying to find a new workable solution myself. I don’t have too many new things left to try here, though, without running into a broken mechanic. Novelty aside, this game is a disappointment IMO.

@Geff – You are right. There are two main reasons people play games – one is the fun of spending time this way, the other is the promise of rewards that make you more “prominent” or “powerful” in your own eyes and the eyes of other people. This is all imagined, of course, but the mind likes illusions of pleasure or grandeur. PVE in this game at least looks pretty and has an appeal. PvP is different because you don’t enjoy the atmosphere, but only enjoy prevailing over your opponents and/or the rewards for the hard work, even if you lose. You can accept a loss if you learned something new or gained some rewards that will help you win in the future. Losing frequently to game bugs or broken mechanics gives no hope of future improvement as a result of your hard work, and thus makes the process of PvP utterly pointless in its current state in GW2.

OP has a point. With all the problems in current sPvP, fun is out of question. Add to it lack of meaningful rewards, and the whole process is pointless. The only reason I am still playing it is experimenting with various builds. When that is over, I will be done.

What you are saying makes sense, but as it stands now, there is no other plausible structured PvP format for casual pvp’ers other than 5v5 tournament hotjoin. If Arenanet fixed the 8v8 and made it 5v5, there would be no problem.
In general, what’s in the game is in the game. If they did not want to allow hotjoin 5v5 tournament, they would disable that option. So while that option is there, in the interest of fairness, rather than discouraging the use of that option, they should make it work properly. I play mostly necromancer and they have a lot of bugs. I prefer that the bugs be fixed and balance issues be addressed rather than “do not play it” solution.

The word “cater” as used in the context of your post is derogatory. I have a certain play style and the game can either offer that or not. I don’t need to be catered.

However, my situation is not unique. This argument (about tournament hotjoin) is similar to “dungeon finder” argument. It is convenient, has its downsides, and is either available or not, and people may like it or not. But, e.g. in WoW, if you used dungeon finder, you expected a full group at least at the start. There has to be a way to see who is inside the instance, not just on the roster, at the time the tournament is due to start.

@Andele – My traits are set up to revive the enemy? What are you talking about? Care to explain? If you mean that the enemies don’t die as much, how about me dying a lot and not letting my teammates to rez fast or not even living long enough to kill?
@Nemesis – I traded crit for toughness and some vit/healing. I did not mean to criticize your build, it’s a high-damage full burst build that should work very well in a good team. Any new build has a learning curve. But I used my build and then tried yours, and while in mine I can live long enough to react to a thief or warrior jumping on me, or harass 1-2 bunker guardians (probably bad ones) and eventually kill if it’s 1v1, while in your build I was lucky if no one was attacking me, but if yes, I was dead in seconds. They killed me through the death shroud etc very fast.
Death shroud as a defensive mechanic has the downside of not showing your debuffs, so after leaving it you may find out that you had a ton of bleeds or ranger’s roots etc. I still use it, but primarily for the fear and gap closing.

@BigTeeHunter – Your idea about locked teams is at 5-year-old level and yes, this is what is currently in the game. Sorry, I did not imply it is your idea, you are just stating what it is. However, this is not the right way to do it. It should be easy enough to check how many players are actually in the match and then act accordingly.
First we hear that 8v8 is bad, don’t play it. Now I can’t join tPvP solo. How many parts of this game actually work? No, I don’t want to go through the screening process of “which class do you play, what level are you, oh, we don’t need that”.

I solo queue for free tPvP and frequently end up in 4v5 or 2 v 3 matches, where chances of winning a nearly zero. Why not cancel or wait until the slot is filled before allowing a match to start? If someone leaves before the match is due to begin, it should not start until someone joins and makes the teams even.

Perhaps this isn't the class for me...

Try it in PvP. I’ve not leveled a Necro, only played in sPvP, but in sPvP it is one of the most interesting, though somewhat underpowered, professions. sPvP gives you access to all the abilities and gameplay options. Depending on which runes, sigils, amulet, and weapons you select, you can build your necromancer as a bleeder, direct damage, or bleeder/healer, with or without focus on deathshroud. You can combine any of those with a predominantly minion-based, wells-based, corruptions-based, or mixed utility slots (including signets of various purpose) for a great variety of play styles.

You don’t have to do any actual PvP, just use the golems and NPC’s for practice.

I have not figured out yet how to make the links work. But I use util skills Consume Conditions, Plague Signet, Signet of Spite or Corrupt Boon, and Blood Is Power.
Figher runes on armor, Force sigils on weapons, Soldier’s amulet. For Elite skill I mostly use Flesh Golem for the stun and cripple, but Lich is a good choice, too, especially because Golem mostly stands there unless his special ability is off CD.

Axe/focus as the main, note that axe #3 gives retaliation and axe #2 and dagger #2 are channeled, but I mostly stay with the axe active, popping dagger/warhorn as needed.
Dagger/warhorn for heal, speed, and daze
To fight off conditions I use Consume Conditions and Plague Signet
You can use various Utils, wells, minions, etc, I prefer the signet that increases power or the other one that increases movement speed, Blood Is Power, or Corrupt boon.

I think this build has too little survivability. Thieves are able to kill you before you know it. I find that 30/0/25/15/0 build with Soldier’s Amulet and Fighter runes, with plague signet and blood is power is superior because you survive long enough to dish out all that damage. I use XI in Spite because I mostly use axe, only use dagger for #2 heal and for the warhorn, and I like to have retaliation (axe #3) on a shorter cooldown.

Uninstall is the answer. I kinda wish this game had a sub. With a one-time purchase, there is nothing we can do to punish Anet for broken pvp. Makes me think WoW was not so bad after all.

sPvP including tPvP is unplayable as it is now. Extremes of excessive burst damage on one hand and bunker builds on the other, multiple stuns on a short cooldown, knockdowns, protracted dying process, tons of pets etc This is a very raw and poorly designed milieu that is perhaps fitting for a young game, but is broken as it is now. I was lured by the promise, but get more and more frustrated by what it is as opposed to what it should have been. I don’t mind dying, but I hate being stunned and knocked back or suddenly being jumped on from out of nowhere, killed in an instant while unable to move, and then slowly finished off. Just let us kill or die and respawn back, why do we have to be paralyzed.

So, which amulet are you using? It makes a huge difference on the stats and the whole build, but you do not mention it in your first few posts here. I presume you are using rampager’s.
How does it compare vs NPC’s ( a standardized target)? Try killing the Thief NPC in Mists/sPvP area without using all of your skills (use weapon skills 1-5 and only 1 utils, except #6, no shroud).

NVIDIA GTX 670 crashes

I only have factory overclock, it’s GTX 670 FTW. The card is dead now, I tried it in another computer, same result. I really think the last patch fried it. I was able to make it work by reinstalling drivers etc, but not any more. And it only crashed in GW2. Thanks, Anet, your incompetence cost me a graphics card.

Same here. What’s worse, I the card is blocked by Windows code 43, I used to be able to fix it to get it back, but can’t any more, I wonder if the card itself is now fried.

My NVidia 670 GTX started crashing within minutes after starting to play GW2 on max settings. It worked smoothly in GW2 since launch and until a few days ago. It seems that started after the last patch. The screen gets blurred and the PC freezes, requiring a hard reboot, and often this knocks out the graphics driver requiring more reboots or driver reinstall. The cards works fine otherwise, including with other games.

The ammount and frequency of stuns is appalling. Some classes and specs can chain stun you to death with no chance of retaliation. Examples include warrriors with hammer, guardian with hammer/mace and spirit weapons, thieves with pistol whip spam (each applies a 1.5 sec stun), mesmer have 2 stuns on a short cooldown, engineer with a rifle and turrets, elementalist with air spec etc. While I’ve played some of these specs and it is fun to knock down your target every 8 sec, it is annoying to be on the receiving end, and it does not have to be like this. Stuns should be an occasional surprise on a long CD, not a spam to death.
BTW, was this really necessary:
“Your thread title has been changed to “Why I feel PvP in this game is annoying” – please refrain from attempting to speak for everyone when making thread titles.”
Now Anet cannot even take criticism anymore without softening the punch? The original title was “PVP in this game is annoying as hell”, which is obviously just my opinion.
I know what’s wrong: this game is build around a one-time payment, no need to retain customers.

I like it too, it’s just annoying. It’s hard to explain. I can play for hours and get irritated by all the annoyances. Love and hate I guess. I’d rather just love it if we could get rid of the annoyances. And yes, you are right, I get double and triple teamed a lot. Sometimes you can’t even see who stunned you right when you were about to heal yourself. It’s just annoying to be lost in the chaos when it could be much more enjoyable to track 1-2 targets, their moves, their ability uses and counter that. I don’t know, I think it could be much better.

I like to play PVP casually, and I like the PVE part of this game – nice and relaxing. However, pvp (mostly s-PVP) drives me crazy. I have played all the classes. It is overloaded with characters, pets, clones, stuns, slows, burst damage, chaos. There is much potential if the number of pets, clones, pet damage, stuns, burst damage are evened out or toned down quite a bit. At this point, however, it is disappointing.

I’ve been getting daily gold spam email, sometimes several per day, on all of my characters. This is obviously not new, although I hope something will be done about it soon. However, one such email came with 1 copper attached. I do not want to take the copper to avoid being accused of utilizing gold spammers. On the other hand, because there is an attachment, I am not able to delete it.
Suggestions:
1. Anet, please let us delete this junk.
2. Please give us the option to disable ingame email except from NPC’s and those who we add to our friends list.

Scepter autoattack tooltip bug: the autoattack (slot #1) bleed duration is 6 s on the target, but tooltip says 4 and 3/4 s. Bleed duration is correctly increased to 9 s with Lingering Curse trait, but the tooltip does not update that info (neither duration nor total damage).

Combat log does not show damage from bleeding.

Spectral walk – does not break stun despite what the tooltip says.
Axe training – does not seem to reflect the damage increase on the abilities tooltip.
Mark of revival trait – does not seem to create a mark when reviving (if I am not confusing with Ritual of Life trait).

Bug – Spectral walk is now correctly affected by spectral traits. However, it does not work as a stun break, despite what the tooltip says.
Bug or tooltip? – Axe training does not seem to affect the tooltip damage of axe abilities.
Mark of Revival trait – bug – does not seem to create a mark when reviving.

Necro ability, does not seem to break stun. I don’t know if immobilize is considered separate from a stun. If you think immobilize is not a stun, then what is supposed to break that?

I agree with the OP. The game started out with a lot of promise, but sPvP is messed up, and it is a major part of the game. In fact that is the only part I’d like to play ATM. But I find more and more flaws. Maps are too small, there are too many clones and other nonplayer creatures. Too many stuns, knockbacks, and disappearances. Downed state is not balanced. Clones and pets often do the majoriy of damage. Phantasms and ranger pets often do 50% of the kill damage. The pets should die with the player down – often they kill me before I can finish off the downed player, and having no pets, I get finished off instead, how stupid. Sharks are stupid. Raid of Capricorn looks even smaller than other maps due to the water. I am getting more and more frustrated. I even stopped playing mesmer, it was too easy.

After novelty wears off, zerg-style PvP gets annoying, and that’s what we have in 8×8 sPvP. We need either bigger maps or smaller teams. Balanced teams, too. Right now it’s either 8×8 mindless zerg of an empty server with 1×1. 2×2, or at most 3×3 if you hit “play it now”. Which makes 2 v 3 etc very unbalanced. And no, I don’t want to have to play tourney style pvp either.
