THANKYOU!!! I knew there was something Ive been missing, quite honestly I’ve avoided dungeons because of the “sorry we are looking for a ….” when trying to join groups doing them but I guess I’ll have to bite the bullet. Funny if I have to buy new armor to fit some current meta for dungeons so I can farm meta armor for wvw lol. I doubt that’ll happen but you never know.
Everytime I come back to the game AN has decided to nerf one thing or another and I am tired of having to buy new armor sets and the storage space in this game leaves a LOT to be desired so I cannot store every armor type for every toon I have. The only classes I do not have a lvl 80 for are a warrior and thief.
Is there any way to get armor sets without having to buy or make them everytime a change is made? I hope that is not the way the game is and that I’ve just been doing things the wrong way but there’s no way I am buying any more armor an weapon an jewelry sets just because AN has zero idea how to balance the game and just keep things static w/o major line changes.
Lame that cheese class has a 100% out of every fight and there is zippidy you can do about it.
lol one of the best pvp vids Ive seen.
Whining about whining is still whining broseph.

This condi guide works super well. Scepter/Dagger swapping with Staff rules.
http://lopezirl.com/2012/12/19/a-condition-necromancers-guide-to-pve/#WhyNecro
Amazing pve an pvp guides for a necro. Neither include pets of any kind really. I run around with a flesh golem but if he’s on cooldown it’s a small matter to me, hes really just a knockdown bot.
Asuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuura!
Seriously being so small is a godsend in WvW, you will soon realize how much you can get away with when you dont stand out like a sore thumb.
I floundered on my necro so much I stopped leveling it for a long time. Then I lucked out an saw Nemesis’ guides on necro leveling.
I would go his single target damage spec using axe/warhorn loading up on power/precision gear. His spec melts mobs. Heres a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6OeKsIh2Gw&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PLsfTAd-qhsRxTk0WuXFF1I7qteSilnjcf
At level 40-50 I would use Lopez’ guide, its a condition spec that handles multple mobs a lot better. I didnt notice condition specs doing well at low levels, likely due to condition damage not scaling well that low?…. Once you hit 40 condition damage is sweet and melting a lot of mobs almost as fast as you would single target is very nice. Here is Lopez’ guide: http://lopezirl.com/2012/12/19/a-condition-necromancers-guide-to-pve/#WhyNecro
Follow it, it works awesome.
It absolutely sucks. Its one of the few downed states that when I go down I know im dead. It has never, ever ever saved me once. Id rather just die an get it over with instead of waving my hand in the air delaying the inevitable for another 30 seconds.
Mainly due to the damage it does, its horrible.
lol I saw the word thief about 3 or 4 times in this thread an stopped reading.
Warrior is the hardest, not so much because they take a lot of skill, its really that they do not have a whole lot of tools, making them SO easy to counter.
Tied for 2nd place are Engineers and Necros. You could say these classes are the hardest to master, especially the engineer, as they have a lot of things to work with an using them in the right situation at the right time takes a long long time to learn how to play them.
Confusion is a condition punishes players for not paying attention. A modicum of skill can all but negate the effects of confusion, not to mention condition removal abilities.
That being said, cutting confusion damage by 50% has reduced build variety in WvW and effectively made the condition nigh useless. A pure confusion build that does nothing but stack condition damage now puts out pathetic damage.
The sPvP condition damage nerf was, and is, bad. As can be seen in sPvP, builds which highlight condition damage are non-existent. It is a very poor decision to give condition damage the same nerf as in sPvP.
ArenaNet needs to revert this change.
We’ve been over this a million times in every thread QQ’ing about the nerf.
The problem with Confusion is not that it punishes bad players, but that it punishes good players. It makes them stop playing.
In an action MMO like GW2 you cannot have skills that make it so you can’t attack. This is why there is no long duration crowd control in the game.
Confusion shouldn’t have been in the sPvP or WvW side of the game in the first place. But Anet had the ideology of a “perfect game” where PvE and WvW were seamless, instead of one that worked in practice. Thankfully they are moving to the practical side of the ledger.
Confusion is easily side-tracked by good players. Im guessing thats why you had such a hard time with it. Only dimwits get killed by confusion period. ANET is incompetent as a company. It has taken me a long while to realize that. What company cuts an abilities damage in half? HALF? They could at least try gradual nerfs but nope, ANET comes in with a chainsaw for a job requiring a scalpel.
Every class I have gotten to max level in this game has gotten ridiculous damage nerfs. Im sick of ANET and give up completely on GW2.
See you all in Elder Scrolls Online. That game is going to be fantastic.
Done playing the game. Tired of lazy companies nerfing classes instead of taking time to balance. Anet’s policy of using a lawnmower when instead should be using a scalpel is just lazy an driving so many people away. Including my friends, and now me.
And btw, in any other game, stealth has a movement speed penalty
Wow, really? What game?
The list is long, let’s say DAoC, WAR, and yes WoW of course.
Also stealth isn’t perfect “invisibility” there, you still have a chance to spot a stealthed char, there are tools to reveal a stealthed enemy, damage breaks stealth, and usually you cannot go back to stealth once in combat (there are exceptions but few and with long cooldowns).
And then comes GW2, which was even advertised as a game without perma-stealth classes, and yet introduces the best “stealth” (aka “invisibility”) I’ve ever seen since playing MMOs for 15 years.
On top of that, we get a graphic engine with bad culling mechanics, allowing them to even attack while still being invisible. OMG!
Question: There is a trait to increase stealthed speed by 50%, does this really make invisible thieves move faster than a visible char with 33% haste?
Am I the only one who thinks stealth is broken in GW2?
Amen 1000% Snoxx. Every friend I came to this game with quit because of thieves. They need to lose perma stealth or get a nerf to their damage. One or the other. It is just not fun to a casual player, like my friends, to pvp in this game when classes like thieves exist as they are. /shrug My friends went back to playing DAoC and so did I except I play this game still now an then on my ele, mesmer an guardian.
lol it’s come to thieves asking for ways to make them even more ridiculous in wvw an spvp to make me see this game is now just something to not take seriously anymore.
Ban an entire race because he has trouble landing one of/if not the most op’d damage combo in the game. hahahaha
At least elementalists have a hard learning curve and have to work a bit to do super damage. Thieves hit how many buttons again? AND have the option to stealth away if it fails?
You sir need to play a different class.
It would be dumb to nerf the ele and leave guardians bunkering as they are now and thieves 1 shooting people. Hopefully they all get balanced at the same time.
Amen Hharry. Although I dont have an issue with guardians really so I dont have a problem with them at all. It is the ridiculous thieves and survivability of ele’s that need toned down.
Ele’s and thieves should be glass cannons and killable. The game now the way it is they most certainly are NOT. Everyone I came to the game with has quit due to thieves mostly.
D/D is OP in a decent players hands, if you struggle with D/D you just are bad.
lol what an kitten stroking knob you are for saying that.
Now if you said if you struggle with d/d after playing a long time you are bad. You might have a point. But you didnt. It takes a while to learn the many combos to use in any given situation to survive. Remember the elementalist is a fairly unforgiving class if you mess up.
You’re right MaXi, gonna grab him an just try bleeds an bleeds an bleeds to see if itll remove it. Everytime I looked down every few seconds that bleeding icon never left.
Will post here again once I do specific testing.
Traits are 0/0/30/30/10. Dueled a guildy tonight who was trying a sword bleed spec. My water traits have cleansing wave an cleansing water an then theres the cleansing wave skill itself.
I didnt see one time that any of those abilities removed bleeding. Every fight I bled out despite switching to water when id see a stack of bleeds on me.
Am I doing something wrong? I have to be or its bugged. Those traits removed everything else but bleeds while we were doing this.
Any tips cause Im at a loss.
DARNIT lol had big plans for that to lock down a point but oh well. Another dream dead hahaha
thanks Max!
The 6th level gives you Chill to all nearby foes for 3 seconds upon using a healing skill.
Anyone know what exactly for a Ele this applies to? Water based spells? The water trait Healing Ripple? Regen based traits?
Any info would be much appreciated!
This complain about thieves is getting real old , running a class cannon thief is the hardest thing basically your stuck into a 14k health pool even the slightest aoe or dmg gets you downed. Most of the qqers don’t know hot to properly trait or use the proper skills, learn to use a stunbreaker ? not to mention they lack the game mechanic knowledge and they come here and qq instead of learning to play the game.
lol sooo you’re saying that a glass cannon thief is the hardest thing in the game? I hope that is a mistype bub. It is a poor defense you use stating that everyone has to trait everything just to have a chance against a single specific class? wow. Their damage is thru the roof AND they can stealth 90% of a fight? Yeah that’s balanced lol.
Go create another class an then whine some more about how hard you thieves have it in pvp. Im still laughing. When you have time you can join your thief comrades post about how op’d rangers are against thieves asking for them to be nerfed. lol.
Thieves need a big fat toning down of their damage or lose the ability to stealth multiple times in a row.
Also love Archaon’s non coherent defense of theives. “Yeah? well you are posting in the wrong place loozer!”
Good defense of thief op’dness dood. You cant defend 20k damage in 4 seconds while being stealthed 90% of the time during a fight. That class needs a fat redo asap cause a lot of people are leaving because of it.
Ya know if warriors were op’d I wouldnt complain to much because they SHOULD be a strong class. Thieves are a joke an anyone playing one most of the time should be ashamed.
I dont mind dying to warriors when on my Ele, Mesmer, Guardian or Engineer. At least theres not 40% of the server population playing them like they are thieves. Buff warriors!
I dont like the thief class or anyone that plays one. I hope I made that clear hehe.
Thank you man you made my day..
Well no,Rangers are no OP against any proffesion, actually the opposite.
Right now Rangers are the most weak class in PvP and its a fact stated by JPeters himself
lol true words Dard. I literally laughed when I read the title thinking it was sarcasm and now laughing harder because it isnt.
Thieves shouldnt complain about anything. Not one single thing. Just hang your heads in shame that you play a class that op’d and easy to master.
And to complain about rangers, thats just….. wow… just……………….wow.
Why not make a team of thieves and not even bother with structured pvp and just take over the wvw zones? Full team of thieves its possible yo.
Be somebody.
I play a lot sPvP, mostly hot-joining matches, some tournaments. What I learned is, that there are a few players, that are just experts in what they do, this includes offensive (Guardian eating enemies alive) as well as defensive playstyle (Elementalist outlasting 2 Thieves and kill them in the end). As a more casual player I tend to die to these experts… including the good Thieves.
And I see many people in the forums complaining about the fact, that they were killed by another player. A player, that (maybe!) just was better than they. To all these people: I think there are some pro players on your server too. People that can counter every thief or at least stand a fair chance. Find those and learn from them. Part of the whole thing is the classes, granted. But there are many other things to take into account: player skill, the special situation, cooldowns, buffs/debuffs, pure luck etc.
If you really feel, a high burst glass-cannon Thief is godly in sPvP… roll one and play a while. Any good player will be hard to kill if you don’t have the right “counter-build”. You will loose against any pro player, regardless of the enemies profession. And you will notice, that Thieves are just different, not OP.
Playing your “nemesis” class on your own was always a good way to learn it’s weaknesses and problems and that holds true for GW2.
Just crying for a nerf killed many good MMORPG games and chances are high that this behaviour will kill GW2 too. Please stop it so we can enjoy the game for some time.
just my 2 cents
Joric I like the way you pleasantly presented your arguement so thank you for not saying “L2P”. However the problem lies with how easy it is to be a ‘good’ player when playing a thief. The class is so easy to wipe the floor with someone its sad. A thief learning a 4 button combo an mastering it can kill a LOT of people in this game. However to be good at and Ele or Ranger, etc takes about 4x + as many buttons to master.
This leads to this fact: There are a lot more ‘good thieves’ out there per total # of people playing them compared to that ratio for a elementalist or ranger or mesmer, etc. Im fairly good at my elementalist, certainly not great mind you, and I have to work my fingers off with about 20 buttons just to even come close to getting 2/3rds of a thieves dps. Oh and Im not invisible 90% of the time either.
Ive never seen a class that needs a damage reduction this bad ever in all the games Ive ever played. Dont care how they do it but it better be soon.
Thieves are ridiculous. I havent seen a more op’d toon in any game Ive played so far and I started with Asherons Call.
Dont give a rat fart about how Arena Net does it but that class better get toned down soon. All my friends quit because of thieves making up 30-40% of the pvp pop on Stormbluff Isles and if another toon of mine gets even another mild nerf before thieves lose their ridiculous op’d ness then Im done too. This is insane that a toon can dish out 20k damage in less then 6 seconds AND be invisible for half of it.
I dont care what Arena Net does but they better do something fast about thieves no skill crapola with the ridiculous damage AND invisible 90% of the time. Hooray!!
My 4th an last friend just quit today from the 5 of us that came to this game in August. All quit because of thieves.
One more even tiny nerf happens to another toon I play an thieves still able to pull 20k damage in 6 seconds or less an still be invisible half that time and I am done. Dont care how they do it, an I dont want the class gutted by any means but that class needs to change asap.
Pvp in this game overall as far as setup goes Im fine with, a duel option would be a nice added feature though. Reason pvp in this game sucks for most people is because of thieves. I came to this game with 4 other friends and the last one just quit today due to thief bs with ridiculous damage an being invisible to boot. Im about done myself to be honest.
If they want to add extra things to the pvp maps an design Im all for it so thumbs up for this post but really they need to balance that thief class. If one more even slight nerf to the toons I play happen an thieves can still pull their no skill bs with impunity, Im done too.
Gonna post this in spvp forms as well. My last friend just left the game, making a total of 5 of us that came to the game originally, after he, like the others, are just flat out tired of having classes that are barely visible zip in an do 20k plus damage an get away with zero damage done to them from the others that were grouped. Now it is just me, my friends refuse to play the game until thieves are brought under some kind of balance so they went back to Rift and Swtor. Yay.
Is it too much to ask that a toon not be able to do both of the following: Do 20k+ damage in 6 seconds or less AND be invisible all but 3 seconds of that time??
Im on Stormbluff Isles server and wvw an spvp is 40% thieves when its not a zerg on zerg standoff at a castle or something. If you see someone running in the distance solo towards you on my server you can bet its likely a thief. This class is ridiculous and the game is getting ridiculous to be honest.
Edited my moderator: removed CoC infraction from the thread title
(edited by Moderator)
I play an elementalist and purposefully levelled to 80 first before trying pvp as I knew the understanding and fluid use of the attunement class mechanic would be essential for any chance of success in pvp.
As stated above, if you had directed your friend to the gurdian, thief, warrior class I am sure he would have had an easier time and picked up a few kills. Not trying to sound elitist but some classes are a lot easier to start off with than others.
You phrased it well without sounding like an elite d-bag. Ele is the toughest class to play in the game, you are literally juggling 4 spellsets to come close to other classes dps. That isnt a class thats for a persons first toon. Thief is what he should have played so he can come here an spam “Learn to play” when people complain about thieves 20k damage in 6 seconds while being untouchable. He wouldnt walk away from that kind of gravy train lol.
“Overall, thief damage is ok… And shouldnt have been nerfed to begin with /sigh too late”
Lol I think this guy actually said this with a straight face.
Edit: Knight if youre facing a good player on a thief thats geared out you will almost never get away far enough to start putting illusions up. Even if you decoy-blink or dodge away the thief is just gonna heartseeker right on top of you again an by the time hes done that you are dead or at 25% hp or less an ticking down. You almost have to drop nullfield immediatly soon as they jump you.
On my Ele if I see em coming I can kill them about 1/4 of the time but Im kiting like a mofo an that usually runs me into either help for me or help for them
Also to Offence: if you are comparing Mesmers to Thieves then you are severely deficient. There isnt a class in the game that can put out that kind of dps an also be untouchable most of the time theyre doing it. Mesmers are tricky but suffer from one GIANT flaw and I havent died to a Mesmer in a 1v1 situation in wvw or spvp in over 2wks on my Ele. Im not gonna point out their glaring flaw, most people know it lol.
Amen, there is NO reason a class can do that kind of damage in so short of time. I have no doubt thieves will be toned down soon otherwise I would just not play until I heard that they were.
The fact they are invuln or stealthed for 80% of a fight an put out 20k damage in less than 6 seconds is just a joke. The only people not complaining about thieves are people who play them and want their unstoppable pwn machines to remain as they are.
Thieves make up around 30% fo the pvp population on my server and that number will likely go up. You cant go anywhere without duo’s or teams of them waiting at roads in wvw. As thief #s go up in pvp they playerbase #s will go down. Ive had 3 friends quit and go back to Rift and Dark Age of Camelot due to thieves alone.
ah thanks bud!
Does Phantasmal Strength in the Inspiration traits stack with Empowered Illusions in the Domination line? For a total of 30% more damage? Or do they cancel each other out an that damage bonus is capped at 15%?
Also does the Compounding Power in Illusions with 3% bonus to damage and Illusionary Defense in Chaos for 3% reduced damage not only affect the mesmer but his illusions as well? I’m guessing just the mesmer himself but better to know for sure.
I am amazed at how many truly bad players there are. Mesmer is obviously not for you. You should probably roll a different class. May I suggest warrior or ranger with a bear pet?
Yay another elitist knob crowing about how awesome they are. Do you troll the boards waiting for players to vent frustrations simply because they havent grasped the class yet just so you can post that kitten stroking garbage?
At least post something constructive or dont click reply dude. You really dont have to click it if frustration venting posts like this bother you so much.
hehe I wasnt in the cool kids club, just wanted to call you on your lame attitude that made you look like a tool when you barely have a toon that can use gear higher than blue. Had you offered that advice in your first reply you would have sounded like a helpful member of the mesmer community instead of a knob.
GL leveling my friend!
lol you told him he sucked an roll another class. A guy that has a mesmer twice the level you have attained. You didnt give advice because you cannot give advice because quite frankly mesmers do not start to mature really until 40+ imo. Thats when you stop struggling and can play around with different things.
All the guy stated was that hes frustrated with what he saw as a nerf to likely the only playstyle he has used. My advice was to try different weapon combos an stop relying on worrying about getting 3 phantasms up, just throw up the one main phantasm an get some clones off while you using your high dps weapon styles. Thats far more efficient anyways.
Im sure as a total pro you probably have a different rotation you would follow to down, say a veteran mob. What weapon, rotation would you use MrM&C?
Just have to comment on MrMacAndCheese’s attitude. Dude before you come here like you are the lord of all mesmers please get one to 80 before you tell someone to roll another class from your perch of infinite knowledge lol.
And since your past the first 40 hell levels, everything from then on is gravy bud lol.
So I can’t have an educated opinion until I’m level 80? Well how’s this…I’ve played 5 mesmers to level 30, because I’m picky about my toon’s appearance to a fault. I’ve never had issues yet with the class. If the first 40 levels are “hell” then this will be lolcake. Thanks for the chuckle. Sorry I hurt your feelings, just kidding (not really).
lol wow 5 whole mesmers not past 30. Well you sir are the one that Im coming to for advice when I have issues in tournaments an spvp. lol Your attitude is amazing for a guy who hasnt gotten a mesmer halfway to level 80. You didnt hurt my feelings scrub, I dont have any. Just bugs me when self proclaimed experts tell someone to roll another class cause they ‘suck’ when that knob hasnt even had to buy his 2nd tier training manual yet. lol
You didnt even give any advice. To be an elitist you have to be elite. You have the order wrong.
Just saying before you tell someone they suck, you might want to at least get the toon to top level otherwise you just look like a kitten that belongs on the WoW forums tbh.
Just have to comment on MrMacAndCheese’s attitude. Dude before you come here like you are the lord of all mesmers please get one to 80 before you tell someone to roll another class from your perch of infinite knowledge lol.
Im working on my 2nd lvl 80 mesmer cause I didnt like the particular race for tournaments an spvp. I still am discovering things about weapon combos and styles working together for better synergy.
Ord try every weapon with every combo. Get one level with each MH weapon an different offhands to get a feel of what you can get away with. Some people are wizards with GS, others make you look silly with a scepter. You might have just gotten in a rut with a weapon that doesnt suit your playstyle.
I myself never got used to, or enjoyed the GS but some swear by it.
Until I read this post I havent even noticed anything was ‘nerfed’ or toned down as I do not read patch notes nor care to cause my playstyle doesnt revolve around putting up max # of phantasms.
You are far better off using high dps styles to kill a mob/mobs rather than fiddling around trying to put up 3 phantasms. Cast phantasm first then pump out clones an high dps styles with whatever weapon you happen to use.
I myself am partial to Sword/Focus and Staff. Nothing I have an issue with except some champ mobs.
Trust me try leveling one level each with each type of mainhand weapon an experiment with offhand weapons an try different things chained together. You will stumble, as I did, upon a combo that suits what you want to do. And since your past the first 40 hell levels, everything from then on is gravy bud lol.
