I’d like to see a Conjurer spec – one which doesn’t give us a new weapon but instead removes/reduces the cooldown on and improves conjured weapons (maybe at the cost of the one you place on the ground, that others can pick up).
They’re a fun part of the class which you rarely see being used, so I’d love to see them being more useful.
@Flow: I’ve no idea whether you or Josh XT is the better necro, BUT … he’s posted a build that noobs like me can at least try (the ones I’ve found on metabattle don’t seem that good). How about showing the build you’d use (if you add they WHYs and HOWs as well, that’d be really helpful!)?
Elementalist’s favourite by far (mostly d/f pvp or d/w pve), with mesmer & engi being closest behind it.
I normally run with http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Tempest_-_Fresh_Air_DPS which is a Dagger build. There’s a Staff build which is very similar but to be honest unless I’m in a group I prefer the D/W or D/F (mobs don’t stand still much, making Staff skills harder to use effectively).
I run in mostly Berserker gear and am quite happy with that, but you can swap in some Soldier’s (more defensive) or Celestial (hybrid) if you like. One of my guildies started by using a mix of Soldier & Cleric (?), and is slowly swapping single pieces to zerker as she gets more confident.

It’s normal that in the new jungle maps the enemies seem a bit overwhelming at first, but you’ll get used to it. Do you have masteries already? Are you new in general to the maps or just with your Engi?
Anyway you’ll handle it! But if you really love the Engineer, you may want to think about having a condi AND power gear ;3
Cool thanks, I’ll have a look at those. I’m planning to get a full zerker set as well, just wanted to start with a condi build this time :-)
I started playing a couple of days after HoT came out, mostly on my Elementalist – I’m at around Mastery Rank 45 or so at the moment, so fairly used to the mobs etc (been slowly levelling alts as well, to get to know the other Professions better*). Just not on the engi!
*so far I like the engi almost as much as the ele – reckon they’ll be fairly equal once I get used to it :-D
Hi all,
I’ve just finished levelling (not boosting) my engi to 80, taken him to Verdant Brink / Auric Basin and … feeling really, really squishy and immobile!
I main an Elementalist so I’m finding the kits and kit-swapping easy enough, but the healing turret seems pretty lacklustre and I’m not noticing much else by way of defenses/heals. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :-)
For build I’m using http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Engineer_-_Condition_Grenadier;. Gear-wise I crafted a full set of exotic viper armour/pistols, black diamond orichalcum jewellery (power/prec/condi/exp) and a rampager back piece.
I’ve tried swapping in some soldier/carrion/rabid/dire jewellery (just a couple of pieces I’ve got floating around) but didn’t notice much difference. I also tried swapping out the Tools line for Alchemy but that didn’t help much either.
So .. am I missing something, or it it just a case of getting more used to the class?
Thanks,
Alie

if you want further explanation, just pm me^^
Actually I might have to take you up on that .. been mostly doing PvP since hitting 80, which isn’t a good environment for getting your head around combos … ;-)
Oh, guilds – you can join up to 5, but you can only Represent (earn XP for) one at a time. When I was looking for a guild, a lot wanted you to Represent them most of the time, which is fair enough. It still means you can have a main guild for PvE / WvW, then a social guild with your mates, and maybe one for PvP, etc. You can access guild chat for all at the same time – they’re on /g1, /g2, etc, with /g also being the one you’re currently Representing.
Hi, I did the same thing a couple of months back – here’s some of my (random) experiences so far:
- Make sure you try EVERYTHING! Different weapons give different abilities so keep changing it up (dagger/X is pretty fun); make sure you’re also trying each element all the time too.
- Stats: power, precision and ferocity for DPS, forget condition damage; if you feel a bit too squishy, then get some toughness and maybe vitality – avoid healing. You can also feel a lot less squishy with good use of earth (defensive abilities) / water (healing).
- It’s worth entering the PvP lobby, even if you don’t join any PvP – while in there you get scaled to 80 and ALL abilities are unlocked. It’s a great way of seeing what’s to come, etc. It’s also worth trying some PvP, I really enjoy it. There are also some target dummies there, some mobs to practice on, etc.
- http://metabattle.com/wiki/Category:All_Elementalist_Builds .. a good place to look for builds. It does all classes, I’ve just filtered it to Elementalist. Don’t worry about it much till 80 (or you’re doing PvP) though.
- Forget quests, there aren’t any. Instead explore EVERYWHERE! Just exploring one complete city and getting all the vistas, hero points, waypoints and points of interest netted me about 1.5 levels, and there’s 6 to explore!
- When you’re out and about, if you want to level quickly then drop everything when you see an Event (the orange circles on the map). Do the Event, then go back to what you were doing .. but note that completing an Event often spawns another one, so you can do several in a row.
- Crafting requires a TON of mats and a lot of time. If you don’t want to waste either, it’s worth looking up a guide on how to level it.
- Gear progression in GW2 is blue → green → yellow → orange → pink. You’ll be used to blue > green, it isn’t here.
- Salvage everything you can, the gear doesn’t sell for much but does give crafting mats. Be sensible on which salvaging items you use, since the different levels give different returns. There’s no point using a yellow salvager on a white/blue item; on the flip side you’ll miss out on a lot of mats if you use white salvagers on green/yellow items.
I’ll post more if I think of anything :-)
Can we please get a working Mac Client [Merged]

Just posting to add my voice to the list. I recently bought GW2 & HoT on the basis that it had an OSX client. I was interested in all aspects of the game, especially WvW.
First off I’m getting the regular crashes that tons of people are already complaining about. Then on top of that, WvW is completely unplayable – as soon as we run into more than 8 or so enemies, the game crashes. You get kicked out of the game and out of WvW; when you come back in you have to rejoin WvW, port to the waypoint, run across the map to rejoin your group … and then crash because you’ve encountered the enemy again ><
Or doing the Personal Story – I’m a new player so I’d not done it before. Doing the last quest chain of the original story aaaaaaaand the game crashes. Log back in to find myself back at the start of that quest chain that I’d just spent 2hrs or so working through ..
