Is this really the way transmutation stones work?

I think transmutation stones are a barrier to the act of collecting styles. Taking a little bit from DC Universe and a little bit from WoW, I think a better way to this whole thing is to make each piece of armor and it’s style collectible in a “style” category in our hero’s menu. If you bought/made/found a gladiator helmet, then you will unlock that style to be used on any helmet in the future. If you want to change the style of your newly acquired cultural helmet, talk to an Asuran NPC or somebody. He/she will then pull up your hero’s style collection menu, you choose a helmet style from your collection, and then for a small fee your cultural helmet will look like a gladiator helm. Same thing for arms, pauldrons, legs, chest, and shoes.

I think that would make collecting a bit more easier rather than buying pieces of armor multiple times.

I think the combat in this game feels very stale.

The skills in this game are boring me to death. Part of the charm that I liked in Guild Wars 1 was to experiment with skills and creating weird load outs from people’s templates to see what would happen for my personal combat. I can’t do that in GW2 when half the load out is locked to a weapon with a small number of skills. At times I feel like I’m playing Contra in this game, dealing death without choosing how I do it.

In a nutshell, I really want to be able to customize the weapon skills with more skills. In a genre in which skills play an important part in the gameplay, I find GW2 to be severely lacking.

I bet a double digit percentage of the players will elect somebody called “Chuck Norris” as a representative.

I think our current in-game government works the best for us, a benign dictatorship.

The Grove, Rata Sum and Divinity's Reach useless

Last time I was at Rata Sum there was literally nobody there, not a living soul. It sort of killed the atmosphere for a buzzing city. I think they should put in unique events for each city, events that promise long term enjoyment. Then people might visit the cities once in a while.

I’ll be THAT human NPC. You know, the NPC that asks for:
-collect 500 scales from the heathen skale of Nevermore
-vanquish the five elder dragons of eternal sin in a party of no more than 2 people
-take down 1,000 trebuchets in the derelict fortress of The Clysm centaur army
-navigate the crucible maze without dying
-and collect a few brown rocks

As a prize, a random weapon of which the rarity varies between professions.

This is because I’m a closeted sadist.

It is safe to say it now.. GOTY?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Altair.7560

GOTY for Guild Wars 2? In my opinion, a big NO. Some people talk about making differences and innovation from predecessor to sequel, but to me it’s all about execution on the final product delivered. In my humble opinion GOTY should go to that certain FPS game that promised more wub wub and certainly delivered it in bucket loads.

I actually went with raven form. When I bought it with my precious skill points I thought I was going to transform into a raven and attack my enemies harpy style. Of course that wasn’t the case. I didn’t fly, instead I was lumbering along like a guy in a bird costume. The attacks were okay, but not as good as my normal skill set.

Simply put, the frigid mountains make them tougher. I also chose Norn because I stand at least three times higher than an Asuran.

I hated exploring that city. It’s like two giant starships collided when they impacted the earth, and then the Charr decided to move in to it with a little bit fixing up. I try to stay as far away from that place.

If the past 12 years of gaming have taught me anything, the thing is that forums are a quick way to change your viewpoint on a game. Sometimes good, sometimes down right awful. You see the ugly side of things that make you hate certain aspects of the game. You see yes men and zealots attacking anyone that speaks their mind. You see people endlessly complain about things and point out the faults of the developers. Your mind changes, you don’t just enjoy this game anymore. You start to be more critical and analyze every little piece of game information, and may even dwell too much on opinions. Is that good? Balthazar knows. All I know is that sometimes ignorance really is bliss.

Housing

Altair.7560

I’m not feeling this whole personal apartment/housing/cottage concept. I have personal spaces in Playstation Home and even when it’s sinfully boring in PS Home I still don’t go to my personal spaces. In this game where I battle giants and walk around high mountain tops, I don’t think I’ll have the time to care about a small house. When I finally get bored of slaying thousands of enemies I don’t see how a house will bring any excitement. It’s something that brings short term enjoyment in my eyes.

Swimming is silly. It’s not logical to swim in a full set of armor. Boats on the other hand are cool. Imagine sailing out of the mists on your warship and storming the enemy beach with weapons gleaming in righteous fury!

Max Level 20 vs Max Level 80: which you enjoy most?

I liked when the max level was 20. Then I didn’t have to worry about level woes and concentrate on other things. It’s not like it’s easy once a person hits level 20 in GW1, level 20 was where things begin to happen.

If an MMO gave you the best gear at level 1...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Altair.7560

Altair.7560

To me MMORPGs is all about the gear. We crawl from the pits of low level worthlessness and dedicate hundreds of hours collecting money and various drops to collect high level gear in hopes to make ourselves feel special amongst our peers. Then at the end we will change the looks of that said gear after realizing that tens of thousands of other players have the same gear, including your close friend Bryan who copied you right down to the pauldrons.

In all seriousness I play for the gear, but not so much about collecting that top tier goodies. It’s more like mixing and matching armor styles to create something interesting. So yes, I would keep playing this game even if I was given the best clothing at level 1.

Which races would you like to see playable in the future?

Tengu look like formidable guys on a field. They know how to fight, and have some sort of communication and language.

What I definitely do not see as a playable race are the Quaggan. Sorry, I honestly think those fellas are a few apples short of an apple pie. All they do is sit around in their underwater dens and say “oooo”. I don’t think they can run, let alone run fast, out on the field.

Camera-related Issue Mega-thread

Altair.7560

It’s a terrible camera system, and it ruins any sort of pleasure I may have had while playing the game. During what point in time was I having fun when I was screaming at the computer screen due to the camera going haywire at trees and objects? This happens multiple times every time I log in to play. I almost broke another mouse in a fit of rage.

Many games of the past have failed due to terrible cameras. Don’t let Guild Wars 2 fail, Anet!

Difficulty vs. level while doing our personal stories

in Personal Story

Posted by: Altair.7560

Altair.7560

Yeah, I don’t find the story to be too fun to play through at all. Sure the cut scenes are entertaining to a degree, but the actual missions are just a chore. I can count on one thing and that is that I’ll die in a 1v4 battle. I’m downgraded to whatever level the mission was, but I have a gut feeling that the enemies are at least one level above me despite what that little number above their head says.

The large number of enemies is the biggest problem for me. High damages dished out from enemies for my level is a close second.

Character Creation feels unfinished

in Suggestions

Posted by: Altair.7560

Altair.7560

I agree with the beginning character customization options. It’s in need of an upgrade. Another customization concern I have, that is loosely connected to this subject, is the customization of armor.

I just bought my first two pieces of tier 1 heavy armor today and I was less than happy (almost upset) at the color customization for the helm and gauntlets. One color, really? Is that all I have to work with in terms of looking nice while killing? These pieces are 30+ silver per item, what’s the downgrade in coloring option for? The whole set could look great with some personal touches but I guess I’ll have to mask it all with different armor styles.

I hope that doesn’t happen again.

It's expensive to play with low-level friends.

Honestly, I don’t see how an Asuran Gate fee plays a part in this game, other than being an MMO counterpart of real life airfare. In real life all the prices around me are being jacked up, including the much used subway. This Asuran Gate fee is just a bitter reminder of that for me.

In this game I saved the lives of people in numerous villages and slayed tons of centaurs, mountain trolls, pillaging pirates, and gigantic wurms. I’m a hero for heaven’s sake! Don’t I get a hero discount while travelling to fight more bad guys?

It’s not like the NPCs need my money to maintain gate portals.

How to examine people's gear?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Altair.7560

Altair.7560

Most want to look at it in order to see how they would matchup in the group.

Sure! Maybe there should be some kind of number that says how good your gear is, let’s call it gear score. So when we run dungeons, we can only take the best with us!

Don’t do it ArenaNet, it’s a Pandora’s Box. The outcome of this will be gear discrimination. As proven in another MMO I use to play, players can always get their hands on high tier gear, but equipment doesn’t fix awful gameplay.
