My “main” guild is only 2 people. The only reason I started it is so my wife and I can have extra storage for mats and consumables. There is no way we could have our own guild hall. However we are members of of other guilds too that have guild halls that we are actively upgrading.
[End Fight Spoilers] New Character Question
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The idea is that through Trahearne you access Mordremoth’s mind. In theory, that link is a two-way connection. Mordremoth can access your mind. He would be able to use the memory of your mentor against you.
If I had another character slot, I would see what would happen with a character that had not gone through the original personal story.
So the Halloween event started, great.
I went to the vendors to see the rewards and had a bug in my head.
The vendor sells an item to craft Gift Of Souls, ok… So… What the hell is gift of souls? How am I supposed to know about it without going to Dulfy, wiki, forum?? The game doesn’t provide me ANY information.
Am I doing the whole event? Is there a path that I can follow so I don’t lose anything from the event? No, it’s just there on LA and I have no idea what’s going on…
Then I see in chat “I’m crafting the event wings”, wait.. You can craft the event wings? It isn’t in the vendors, how am I supposed to know that I can craft some wings with the event theme?
And then after some research I found out that I need to get the recipe to craft the 1st part, then gather some materials to finish the 2nd part and discover the other recipe to let me craft the other part to complete the 1st one, mix it on the MF and get a recipe to craft the last part of the 1st part and discover the super recipe to craft the ultra part to finish the first recipe of the parts… (well, you got the idea of my point). So, why the game does not provide me informations? Why do I REALLY NEED wiki? I don’t mind using wiki, but give me some info about “this item craft gift of souls”…
Last thing, I thought I would do the event, get some tokens and buy rewards with them, final rewards… Not crafting recipes that I need other 40 recipes to maybe craft a themed wings.
If the vendor sells the wings and it costs 50 tokens, i’ll farm the event and get the wings, but Gw2 is way too complicated on this aspect.
The item you speak of is an intentionally super rare thing that was added this year for Halloween. Its taken days for someone to actually figure out the recipe. I know its up on the Dulfy’s website.
The info on the wiki site is user generated, so yes it can take time for new things to show up.
I am running the game on a Phenom II X4 Black Edition, and it runs fine. When ever I do PC builds I use AMD almost exclusively, but I may switch to Intel for the next one I do in a few months.
Important: Getting started with "HoT" story
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Apophis.2498
Mathew, I have a question regarding terminology.
How can we call the HoT’s main story? im talking specially for wiki purposes or day by day interaction.
Is this Living World Season 3? will be a LS4 later on?
It is HoT’s Personal story, and then it will be a LS3 later on?
Raids have story, and it comes “after” this Hot’s main story. Are raids LS4? or LS3? or nothing related to it?
It is confusing, I feel like Living World story has no space if they are not part of this “personal story” or raids. and LS2 was a really good one, in terms of continuty. I thought that the future would be a LS3, then a LS4, etc… but with all this i am just confused. Can you solve this doubt, please?
The HoT story is not LS3. As far as we know the Living World season will start again at some point after HoT launch. We have no idea when or how often those updates will be coming.
so thats 1 minute after midnight pacific time? If so, that’s 2:01 am central time, my time. So those of you who are in later time zones will be getting up regular time to play. For me, its wake up at an ungodly hour or wait to play regular time.
The other problem: start out with HoT or Halloween? LOL
I have to be up at 4 am to get ready for work with just enough time to start the download and walk out the door.
I’m glad someone linked that.
Disappointed to see it wasn’t the first reply to the thread! :p
I tried, but the internet at work is sloooooooooow!
I forgot about the Warcraft movie, but I probably wouldn’t want to watch it.
I would not want a GW movie either, but I am a fan of those writers and directors and I wonder how the game would feel if any of those people had a hand in development.
I’m a long time fan of the GW franchise and I love the stories Arenanet tell in the games, but could you imagine what the game would be like if certain writer/directors took over?
M. Night Shyamalan, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Rod Serling, Stephen King, ect…
I am not sure why this is such a big deal. class/specialization balance goes beyond alpha and beta testing, and each will be continually tweaked as time goes on. ANet has their own test team that goes through stuff before we ever see it. And who knows the druid may have been worked on the most out of all classes.
The Scrapper and Druid will be fine, I’m sure.
For sure you are not a ranger or engi. That’ s why you write this
I do play ranger.
I guess it would depend on what build you are trying to run and what enemies you are facing.
If you are in a group an enemy may chase down the player with the highest toughness like the Vale Guardian. Some may target the lowest vitality, or even the player that is furthest away. But to build up toughness, make sure you are equipped for it. Base toughness at level 80 is 1000. I just don’t recall where I read that.
There are 5 armor and weapon stat sets with toughness as the primary attribute: Knights, Cavalier, Nomad, Giver’s, and Settler. There is a selection of traits, runes, and consumables that will increase toughness further.
Couple that with a high vitality and you should be able to live through most fights.
There is a story to HoT. You only have to own HoT and be level 80 to access it.
When you start the story for HoT it is assumed that you have completed the core story and the living world updates.
We haven’t gotten into the story of HOT yet. Why are there complaints of elite specs not fitting the lore, if we haven’t seen it yet. There’s lore for the Rev, so I’m sure there is lore for the specs.
well they had to delete all of the beta characters, so i guess it doesn’t matter now.
What happened to Rox?!?!?
What happened to Rox, I wonder?
You see Kasmeer, Marjory, Braham, and Taimi with Rytlock…..but no Rox.

What’s wrong with custom arenas?
Whenever my guildmates or the wife want to test out new builds, we try them out there 1v1. No interruptions.
I had to go back and watch that section of the PoI, but it jumps, has a speed boost, some cool AoE attacks. Looks more fun than the scorpion in EoTM
I have enjoyed just about everything in the beta. There area a couple of the specializations I won’t be using, and that’s a preference thing. The only thing that bugged me was the defiance bar on the Wyvern fight. I think that we were able to burn it down too fast.
I want to know what this is. I saw this door in other screenshots, and when I found it myself I had to get there.
I know I don’t have too much longer before release, but I wonder if this leads anywhere.
I did not read every post in this thread, so forgive me if this has been brought up.
When looking through the forum on Rangers, there was one data-mined image for the Druid spec that only depicted three animals: Bear, Wolf, and Raven(or some predatory bird). Then I recall watching one of Wooden Potato’s videos that had footage of the first press beta for the GW2. In that video he mentioned that at one point ANet had the idea of the ranger controlling 3 pets at the same time.

The game only allows so many players on one map. In PvE, the cap is/was 150. WvW could be higher. I’m not sure, but it couldn’t hold two 500 person guilds.
As long as they don’t force raids into the story itself like Arah was for the longest time.
At least I know to avoid these.
Hopefully this story isn’t part of the central one, like a side-story which is totally optional. I too don’t want people to be forced doing raids to know the story, just like the legendary armor, everything should be optional.
I need to find the article to post as a source, but I recall reading that the raids take place after the story.
What I have experienced from my ventures into WvW, that a guilds will vacate their original server to move to a “higher tiered” server to get more exposure. I was a member of two guilds that have done this rather than help cultivate the WvW culture on their original servers.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the next beta happened in the next couple of weeks. That Shaman data-mined the wedding attire from the august 11th patch, then it appears in the gem store in the 8/25 patch.
I could be wrong, but there’s nothing wrong with wishful thinking.
Possible trait/specializations

Cool. I haven’t peeked at that forum, but I was sure something was posted in the main HoT boards. Just hadn’t seen it.
Here are some details about the Revenant’s Elite Spec:

To stay within the confines of the story, the remaining pact forces don’t have a lot of time to build forts or structures like the ones in the Silverwastes. Barricades would be all they could build within minutes or hours after the fleet was destroyed.
They will be tweaking the night events during the beta phase of development. It felt very tense during my experience this weekend, and I would hope that they crank up the intensity with Mordrem numbers and AI. The Mordrem would have the advantage at night and they would have no reason to be shy about attacking during that time. There should be that danger of being overrun.
He’s asking about Closed Beta Test or Open Beta Test. There will be another Beta Weekend Event after this one, however I couldn’t guess when that will be. You would also have access to the stress tests they do in between the BWEs.
I’m excited for the story to continue and new places to explore.
But all of the negative comments over no release date reminds me of my kids when its close to dinner time.
Me: ok, im starting to cook. I’ll call you when its ready.
Kids two mintues later: Is it ready yet?
Me: No.
Kids five minutes later: Is it ready yet? I’m starving.
Me: No, it will be ready by the time your show is over (in 5 minutes).
Kids: Ok.
Kids 2 minutes later again: crying It’s taking too long. When is it gonna be ready?
Me: When I tell you its ready.
Kids stomp back upstairs this sucks, i just want to eat,
Me: It’s ready
Kids: Mmmm. You’re the best dad!
Me: yeah, I guess. Thanks?
Can’t really say that there will be only 2 BWEs. The following link shows the testing schedule leading up to the release of GW2. I participated in almost every event except for the closed betas.

From what I have heard in interviews is that the mastery system will be similar to the mastery system in WvW.
One example being mastery from flame rams. anyone can use the ram, but those that maxed out that line are more effective using them. or the supply mastery everyone picks up supply in WvW and Eotm, but the more points in that mastery allows you to carry more supply.
With the exception of the hang gliding and lore masteries, i don’t think you will be locked out of it completely. it would be a bit more difficult to clear certain content without the mastery.
Factions and Nightfall are not expansions. They are seperate campaigns. Eye of the North was the only expansion for Guild Wars or GW1. The majority of the arguments against an “expansion” that I have read are about how much unexplored areas around the continent of Tyria. That kind of makes sense to me.
The one questions that I have are:
Why cross the Crystal Desert into Elona if we haven’t beaten Kralkatorrik or venture to Cantha without beating the Deep Sea Dragon?
If Anet was going to follow what they did with GW1 (having seperate campaigns) It would take a ton of resources to flesh out Cantha and Elona like they did with Tyria.
I could see them using the Living Story to open up other areas in the current map.
Because the DSD isn’t between Cantha and Tyria, it were Zaithans Dead ships disrupting Ship movement.
Good catch. That would allow them to open cantha first, if that is the path they choose.
I never said or thought it was impossible. Just not time. I want Elona and Cantha just as bad as other players do, but I’m not going to raise hell about it.
I’m just speculating, but they could have been using Dry Top as a test for new features to see if it could run with a high population. When they opened up Southsun, it was a nightmare with all of the lag issues they had. Especially since if felt like everyone logged in wanted to rush through the new map within minutes of release. I am sure they they are able to open up larger map areas in within one or two LS releases.
I could be wrong, but I’d imagine that Anet could handle it now

There is no war without scars or casualties.
Epilogue: That's it? (spoilers, obv)

Anybody else feel that Marjory’s sister has been shown just so she can be killed off in the next Living Story release? You know, give Marjory a personal reason to go kill a dragon.
Yep, all she was missing was her red shirt.
+10 for Star Trek reference!
The only avenue to get caught up on the Living story to date is to read about it on the Wiki site. But it seems to be that the LS is a series of mini-arcs that occur between chapters of the story. The main story of the original release was taking down Zaithan. The LS season one lead up to the awakening of Mordremoth, our second Elder dragon. Arena Net as mentioned that there maybe some changes to the way the LS will be delivered in season two or in future seasons, we just don’t know how or what.
I would imagine that if they were to have a way to experience LS season one, it would be an abridged version sort of like the Fractals but without getting the achievements or awards that us first timers got.
I have be fortunate in doing every release, and I still spend time reading the story on the wiki.
Did you not notice that we will have to deal with a new Elder Dragon soon?
Why are players assuming that Primordius will rise from Lion’s Arch? In EotN, the chamber that houses that elder dragon is in the Shiverpeaks.
Its been 200 years, and he has the ability to shift underground. Plus Jormag drastically changed that area based on how far south the ice goes now, so it would make sense that Primordius moved.
I think if that were the case, there would been some other cataclysmic event would correlate with Primordius moving, because its body is basically embedded in the earth. And there is no mention of any of that in the lore.
