Stomping retargeting

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

Maybe this is an intended feature, maybe this is an annoying bug, I don’t know. But I’m inclined to believe it’s the latter since the quickness stomp has been removed to allow people to actually come back from downed state.

I couldn’t do anything during this downstate.

When this happened, I thought someone was hacking since it was already a weird match (so many and frequent bursts that it wasn’t normal anymore). But when I watched the footage, I noticed that the mesmer was stomping the elementalist, the elementalist went into mist form, and I got stomped instead.

Fun if you are on the executing end, not fun if you’re on the receiving end. Even if this is an intended feature, please consider disallowing retargeting stomps.

The Fractal Avengers are the ones who are abusing this as well btw.

Charr and Asura female precursor armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

The best option would be removing the boob part and design something unique for both female charr and asura. Because why does armor always have to be a human centered and then converted to “fit” (read: slapped on and stretched for) asura and charr? Sure, it involves more design work, but you made GW2 offer these playable races, so it’s only fair to also properly support them. Otherwise people don’t want to play these races anymore that much. I mean, it’s Fashion Wars right? If the reason is because that less people play these races, it’s not a valid one. Enough people play these races to justify custom designs.

There is a reason people keep complaining about the lack of armor variety on these two races, and it’s not because of actual lack of armor itself, it’s because of the lack of actual decent looking armor.

Fixes for charr armor: a proper tail-hole, proper holes for the horns and ears (don’t just hide them), proper foot armor, etc. Also, the differences between male and female armor should not be the same as the humanoid races. Especially these boob armors. It… just… doesn’t… fit.
Take a look at the Mistward armor (from the Revenant), now that’s armor that has been well adapted to charr (or maybe specifically designed for charr first and then the other races? who knows…).

Fixes for asura armor: proper headpiece for their ears, proper foot armor because of their toes, etc. The differences between male and female armor apply here as well.

So, yes. If the female design cannot be altered to properly fit charr and asura as I mentioned above, then change it to have them the male variant. It looks way better than the female design.
And while you’re at it, I’ve mentioned the missing tail-holes for charr armor in general. Please do fix the medium set, it’s again… clipping with the tail. Plus that light cultural armor while you’re at it, as it was designed for charr. Then afterwards, try looking at and fixing the rest of the armor in the game. If you manage to do that, people who play these races will be very grateful.

Only squad chat was broken. You could use map or say chat as a work around.

I’m out. Seems some people here really don’t understand that it’s not as easy to clap in your hands and tada! We have a solution or workaround.

Anyway, to ArenaNet: While I’m sad that we couldn’t try out the raids or the new squad UI, I appreciate that you posted an update so we aren’t left in the dark. I hope you’ll be able to find a solution soon so we can test it again.

Why disable them anyway? Yes the UI didn’t work properly but we could still do the raid with a few workarounds.

Do you have information that we don’t have? How can you know that it would be easy with “a few workarounds”? As far as I understood, the squad UI is integrated deeply in the raid system.

This pretty much:

The point he is making is that even though squad was completely broken we could still get it to work and get into the raids to try them. Basically everyone exit the game so your party status resets and then rebuild the squad and it should work.

We were able to try the raid multiple times and when we finally figured out the Vale Guardians mechanics for the second phase the raids were completely disabled.

Then how do you know that’s the only thing that’s broken? I’ve even heard some people having issues with chat after entering/leaving a squad.

The thing is, something happened that they did not predict. And they want to have it turned off, just in case something else happens that might not be easily fixable afterwards (e.g. corrupted account data or w/e you can think of that nobody wants to happen).

Latency issues with some servers

in Account & Technical Support

Archomeda.6472

Currently, I have some latency issues with some servers. It doesn’t seem to be an issue on my end when I check with tracert. But then again, I haven’t heard someone else having issues so far.

For example, with Gandara being my home world, I have latency issues with EB and GBL (they go to ~150ms), but AMBL and ERBL are fine (20-40ms).

I have executed the following tracerts:

I’m pretty sure it’s clear which tracerts show which servers I have issues with. It’s pretty odd to me that some servers are just fine, while others have a big delay. Can someone clear up what’s wrong with the servers? Or maybe it is my connection? I’m really clueless at the moment.

Edit: After trying it again after a few hours, it seems that the 130-140 ms has been reduced to 30-40 ms at the moment. But it’s still not near the other servers where tracert reports ~15ms.

Knowing which borderland map has a given id

in API Development

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

You need to query it against the WvW API endpoint here: https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/wvw/matches.json, and check the world ids for every match. v2 isn’t active yet sadly.

Regarding the map ids staying the same, it depends. These are map ids we’re talking about. As long as the Alpine Borderlands are active, you can assume they are staying the same. But the Desert Borderlands have different ids since they are completely different maps. For example, from my WvW stress test time, I could figure out with the Mumble API that the Red Desert Borderlands is 1069, and the Green Desert Borderlands is 1087. No clue about the Blue one, since that one was inactive.

There is another way that’s a bit more fixed, but this only applies if you’re using the Mumble API. This API contains a mapType value that is different depending on where you are: EB = 9, Blue BL = 10, Green BL = 11, Red BL = 12, Obsidian Sanctum = 14, EotM = 15. And these values were the same in the Desert Borderlands. See https://github.com/arenanet/api-cdi/blob/master/mumble.md.

As an important note, this endpoint only serves the 10 most recent games (that have occurred within the last 30 days, IIRC).

Hmm, apparently I have 10 matches listed, and the dates range from 2015-07-12T02:27:08.000Z to 2015-07-14T03:09:30.000Z. So it would seem that the retention is higher than 30 days

Edit: A question, what are the possibilities of the results? Currently I have Buy, Defeat, Victory and Forfeit. And what triggers what to show up?
Edit2: I also saw that I’ve had a couple matches of which neither team has reached 500 points. These matches have the map 1011, I’m assuming that’s Battle of the Champion’s Dusk? It’s not yet listed in /v2/maps.

Corsair K70 Question

in API Development

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

Just to clarify some stuff here that has been discussed after this topic started.

In order to have these features be the most efficient, the – let’s say – local client API (or Mumble Link API to be more precise) has to be improved and/or changed. The API devs have said that they want to do this, but it’s in its early stages, like, they’ve only thought of having it. That’s it. It’s probably far away on their roadmap. You have to keep in mind that instead, they’ve been very busy with the /v2 APIs. And this takes a lot of time.

Instead, let me introduce you to a different, but similar feature that GW2 natively supports. It’s called AlienFX. The saddest part about it, is that it’s only for Alienware devices. So for the last half year (a little bit more), I’ve been working on and off on extending it to, for example, Logitech devices. When I started, I’ve created a video showing what it does on my Lightpack: https://youtu.be/nBnYySAUF88.

It’s a pretty cool feature, but the data what GW2 sends, is only the color data for each separate light. Not the state of your game. So it’s impossible to read if a skill is off CD this way. Still, AlienFX is something fun to try out.

If you’re interested, go to my repository on GitHub: https://github.com/Archomeda/lightfx-extender. Currently, it only extends to Logitech and Lightpack, since these are the only devices I have available. Also, it’s entirely possible that this will crash your game in one way or another. A small note: I still have to release v0.4.2 with some significant changes/fixes.

If you are concerned about this plugin interfacing with GW2 and ToS, this plugin only intercepts the calls GW2 makes to Alienware’s AlienFX, does some stuff with it and forwards it to other devices. It does no such things as reading GW2’s memory.

Also, now that more than 50% of my post is about advertising my project, the last thing I want to add, is that I’m actually looking for enthusiastic people willing to implement support for other devices, like Razer’s and Corsair’s.

F2P accounts, WvW and API accessibility

in API Development

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

The WvW community of my server uses the API keys to check if someone is from our server before they are allowed in the TS WvW channels.

Now, since F2P accounts have access to the API and can join whatever server they want, they are also able to get API keys that say that they are from our server, while their main account might be on a different server.

This is not ideal for WvW. But it can be solved pretty easily.
One is to disallow the access to the API of F2P players (which is not really ideal). Two is to add an entry to /v2/account that shows if the account is a F2P or B2P account. This way we can check if it’s a bought account.

I think the the latter one is the better option. It would still allow the F2P accounts get access to the API, while still having our TS WvW channels be clear of “possible spies”.

Archomeda.6472

Correct me if I’m wrong but stuff like recipe unlocks & crafting disciplines are char bound, not account bound, right? I’m not sure it would make sense to list these under (account) unlocks and progression. I also think these should at least have the name of the associated character included somewhere.

True. But as it currently stands, progression does not only have account-bound stuff. The specialization unlock, world completion, story and selected order are all character-bound.

But you have to keep in mind that having all of this categorized under one permission does not necessarily mean it will also be listed under one API endpoint. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to have it all under one progression permission.

Looking to learn API! Suggestions?

in API Development

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

Not to shatter your dream, but there isn’t something like “a program” or “a particular programming language” you have to use in order to create an application to use the GW2 API.

The GW2 API is a RESTful API. You can use whatever language you want. However, GW2’s API relies on JSON encoded strings. This is heavily favored towards Javascript and web development. Still, JSON has become pretty popular over time, and you can use JSON in almost every programming language you can imagine (provided that there are libraries for it). This means C++, C#, VB.NET, Java, Javascript, PHP, Ruby, Python, Node.js, Go, and the list goes on and on.

This means that I can’t give you a recommendation for a programming language you’ll want to use. You have to find a language that you like yourself.

Regarding implementing an API wrapper, it really depends on the language. But note that the GW2 API is a RESTful API (at least version 2 is). Some languages already provide a wrapper for something like that, but sometimes you have to implement it yourself.
Regarding reading the API, there’s the wiki for that.

My advice is, once you’ve settled what kind of application you want to create, look for programming languages that support you with that. Some examples: PHP/Javascript for web applications, C#/Java for standalone applications. There are more options, but I think that these languages are used the most currently, which means that you’re guaranteed to find tutorials etc. on the internet. Then after you’ve found your combination you can worry about interfacing with the API.

Also, HTML is not a programming language . It’s like saying that the formatting options on the forums is a programming language.

Good luck!

In any case, the chat stuff will take a significant effort to implement; as such we’ve got plenty of time to discuss the finer points of it. I think it would be best to start a new thread specifically for the implications of the chat endpoint.

Fair enough. I have a different opinion about it, but that’s a discussion for another time. I got a bit carried away, sorry about that.

Looking over at

unlocks/wardrobe/fashion (name TBD)
“Your wardrobe unlocks and currently equipped skins.”

  • skin/dye/mail carrier/finisher/mini/etc unlocks
  • maybe currently equipped skins?
  • maybe recipe unlocks?

progression (name TBD)
“Your account-bound unlocks, timers, and progress.”

  • specialiation unlock progress
  • mastery progress
  • account achievements
  • world completion progression
  • daily dungeon/fractal reset progress
  • story progress, selected order, etc

unlocks/wardrobe/fashion

  • Seeing another post about moving currently equipped skins to character, I think that would be the best too. It is essentially a skinned item. By the way, don’t we already have access to a character’s equipment and to the current skin of an item? I think you mentioned the duplication as well.
  • I think it’s best to have this dedicated to unlocks only. This means the ones already listed (except equipped skins) + unlocked skins on your account (which is essentially the wardrobe). It would also remove the ambiguity about this permission I think.

progression

  • I would say that the name is fine. Progression means both your account and character progression.
  • I’m not really sure about this one, but the crafting disciplines are missing. Naturally I would say progression. But since unlocks holds the recipe unlocks, it can be under unlocks too. Especially since there’s also the crafting discovery in the game, which is again progression, but also a bit of an unlock.
I think that recipe unlocks, crafting disciplines and crafting discoveries should be together in a permission, as they are tightly related to each other. Maybe get all three under progression and keep unlocks for account-wide unlocks only?

guilds
“Guilds’ rosters, history, and MOTDs for all guilds you are a member of.”

  • roster
  • ranks
  • event log
  • upgrades
  • motd

chat
“Read and write access to your guilds’ chat.”

  • read/write access to guild chat

That’s a little problematical, because it affects also other players. Every Guild Member has to trust every other Member that he/she don’t share his/her token with dubious webpages or archive every writen word to a DB, even he/she is offline.
This should need something like a allow/disallow from a guildleader and the status should be displayed under /v2/guild/id or (much better) somewhere ingame.

I agree. Although I’m pretty sure the devs are aware of this, it can’t hurt to reiterate it. Having access to the guild chat sounds really nice and it’s something that most people want (myself included). But it should be limited by new guild permissions. Maybe even separating the read and write access. If your account does not have sufficient permissions set by the guild leader, you’re out of luck.

On a similar note, even though this is not correct place to ask, but if this will be (eventually) added, I would like to be able to create more than 10 ranks. If the API permission gets added, I can imagine that leaders want to have more different ranks to allow/disallow certain people, even though the rank itself might be similar.
Also, “Admin Lower Ranks” should really be revisited (separate the ability to invite, promote/demote and kick for example). I really hope that the people who are responsible for the guild system are aware of this.

Personal Story Audio Problem

Archomeda.6472

I just encountered this issue as well. It was during the Whispers of Vengeance personal story. In it, Korukhan the Blacksmith didn’t have some VO lines in the cutscenes.

If I remember correctly, the following lines were missing VO (copied from the wiki):

  • Korukhan the Blacksmith: There you are. Time to start earning your keep, initiate. The Vigil and Priory teams have already moved in, so your path is clear.
  • Korukhan the Blacksmith: That’s too ambitious initiate. The Order of Whispers is dedicated to stopping all the dragons, but we don’t have the resources for direct confrontation.
  • Korukhan the Blacksmith: Lion’s Arch is also your next stop, initiate. There’s a Whispers contact waiting with your first official mission. Look for a vendor selling apples…and good luck.

I also sent a bug report ingame, listed under Audio > Cutscenes. Maybe that will help. My audio quality is set to highest.

Too much? Okay… what about 0:48 then?

In all seriousness, I can see that 1:28 might be a bit too much if you want somewhere near 0:30. Therefore I hope that 0:48 is not that much of a problem. I have shaved off as much as I could.

When it’s ready™ and approved™ by our guild leaders I’ll post it.

Audio and FPS issues at random moments

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

Sounds like a reasonable explanation. I had never seen this issue happen before. Good to know that there are more people, less good to know that it’s still an issue. But I guess that’s what you get when it’s impossible to reproduce reliably.

Audio and FPS issues at random moments

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

This issue happens suddenly without prior warnings or whatever. It causes the audio updates to stop completely. By this, I mean that new sounds won’t be played, but existing sounds (e.g. background music) keep playing. Changing the audio settings does not work at all (even switching audio devices, the audio just keeps playing on the previous selected device).

Along with this audio issue, my FPS drops to max 20. Even in areas where my FPS should be 60.

These issues can only be resolved by restarting the client. But when I try closing the game, it hangs and sometimes eventually crashes with the default Windows Error Reporting window (so I can’t send a crash report either).

This problem started recently, probably with the latest patch. About the same time, I updated to Windows 10. But I wonder if Windows 10 is the problem. Someone in my guild has this issue as well and I don’t think he has Windows 10, but rather Windows 7.

Trading post animations very laggy

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

For some reason, for the last few months, the animations of the trading post (e.g. prices sliding in when opening an item) lag a lot. The game itself runs at a steady FPS all the time, but it looks like the trading post is running at 2 or 3 FPS when animating. The trading post seems to be less responsive as well.

I’ve had this problem on my Windows 7 install and it got progressively worse over time. Now that I’ve upgraded to Windows 10, it’s the worst experience ever. I remember that when the new TP just came out, the animations worked pretty well without any problems.

The trading post uses Coherent UI as back end, which is a separate process running besides Guild Wars 2 itself. I figured out that GW2 uses ~75% across all of my 4 CPU cores. I think Coherent UI tries to use 100% of 1 CPU core while animating, but it fails to do so for some reason. When I change the process priority of Coherent UI, the animations improve a bit, but it’s still not the same as when the new TP was just released.

Since I don’t want to do this every time when I’m playing GW2, I hope the performance of the trading post can be restored. Maybe it’s a problem on my end, maybe not, I don’t know.

That’s a general bug with GW2 though – I’ve had it happen with other classes as well.

Then every leap skill is affected. That’s unfortunate. I haven’t used the leap skills from other classes that extensively to encounter it there as well. I hope they have the time some day to fix it for all classes then.

Either way, nice to see an extensive list of profession bugs. Seeing it more and more often definitely gives a good overview of what’s currently broken.

  • Swoop (Greatsword #3) will immobilize the player mid-animation for around 1 second, if moving down a slope/hill etc.

This has been a bug for a loooooong time sadly. One that I hate if I were to quickly travel from A to B. “I’ll be there soon, oh… nope, sorry guys, I’m stuck because of my own skill.” I think it’s not only moving down a slope/hill, I’ve had it happen when moving up as well.

Another bug with GS #3 is that when you deselect a target in order to leap where your camera is facing (as it should be), if you are too quick to fire that skill (let’s say within 1 second), you still end up going to that target you already deselected. It killed me several times in PvP.

Long map load times after patch

Archomeda.6472

Got the same issue. Posted the same on reddit too.

Copy-paste:

Streaming is definitely causing longer loading screens. Weird, since I have been playing for some hours now. They probably have changed something when it went out of beta, since I had it always enabled and had no issues before this patch.

That said, I do have longer loading screens now. For some reason in HotM the AgentCharactersToLoad is very slow, it drops with 1 every 0.5-1 seconds, while it has to load 20+! Every time I came out of a match I had a loading screen for 40+ seconds instead of the normal 10-15. Screenshot.

Other maps that are very populated also have a terribly long loading screen now. There’s a reason I’ve installed GW2 on my SSD

Commander tag color resets after restart

Basically, what’s in the title. Apparently, almost every time when I restart my client, the commander tag resets itself to red despite having it set to another color before restart.

I’ve noticed that this bug started happening a while ago, can’t exactly remember since when, but I think it has been at least a month or two. At first I thought that I was crazy, but after reproducing it multiple times, I am sure it happens almost every time after a restart.

Issues with Logging Out in Silverwastes

Archomeda.6472

I got this bug at least three or four times. Of which two times I was logging in directly after an update, and the other times while changing characters.

I can only remember where I was during the times after an update. For the first time, I was mapping Bloodtide Coast, after re-entering the game, I got sent to (close, but not on) Traders Forum Waypoint. The second time, I was in the east of LA, got sent to the same place again, near Traders Forum Waypoint.

I sent a bug report ingame for the first one when it happened, not the others though.

API CDI 2015

in API Development

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

I’ve got a small question, and I’m sure it has been brought up many times before, but I can’t find it at the moment.

Regarding the /v2/maps endpoint, is it possible to add a map_type entry for each map? With possible values like: city, dungeon, personal_story, living_story, instance, pvp, wvw. Or at least a way to separate instances from “normal” maps.

My reasoning is that, previously, with /v1/map_names.json, it would only return the major maps plus some random maps like the Crown Pavillion. This way I could “easily” identify which maps are actually maps and not instances. Granted, I was still missing the cities, but I could add those ids manually without much effort. However, at some day in the past (don’t know when), that endpoint got changed to include every map. So, my nice effort to get the major map boundaries is now a major disaster as I don’t know an automated way to separate maps by type other than this non-working workaround.

Also, now that I see this, I’ve got another question. Why are most instances located in Steamspur Mountains instead of their correct respective region? For example, map 1006 – Foefire Cleansing is clearly an instance from living story season 2 and is located in Plains of Ashford – Ascalon, yet it is tagged as Steamspur Mountains.

Also, using brackets in link titles doesn’t work on the forums apparently, had to resort to use dashes instead…

In-Game API

in API Development

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

That post is talking about the (unofficial) API from the previous trading post. It was not supported by ArenaNet publicly and was only supposed to be used from the TP in-game. It got removed in favor of the new TP.

Also, the new API you mentioned (the /v2 endpoint) only works one-way. There is no official way to manage your stuff outside the client. And for the rest, /v2 still gets updated with new TP stuff, but it may take a while.

FullScreen works no more on XP after patch

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

First of all, it’s unfortunate that people with Windows XP are having this problem. Calm down, this is most likely a bug that will be fixed, but its priority might be a bit lower than other things that got introduced with the latest patch.

Secondly, those who are saying that you expect ArenaNet to continue support for WinXP is also very unrealistic. When you bought GW2, you agreed to the terms:
“Due to potential changes, system requirements may change over time, and you may be required to upgrade your current system (or obtain a new system) to continue to play the game.” (buy.guildwars2.com)
Basically, you cannot demand from ArenaNet that they have to support WinXP until it finally dies because you don’t want to upgrade to Win7 or 8.

Of course, on the other hand, when this will happen, it’s only fair that ArenaNet will most likely post something to give you a heads up. So this makes it even more likely that it’s just a bug.

Suggestion: player camera improvements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Archomeda.6472

Archomeda.6472

Just to add on the first person camera on charr: it not only seems that the camera is above the head, but it seems it’s also not positioned on the eyes horizontally. This is not really the most helpful description, so I’ll say this: instead of the camera more positioned on the eyes in front, it’s more like it’s positioned on my backpiece instead.

The next, since it’s positioned this way, when I’ve equipped a longbow, I occasionally see the string of my bow popping up in front of my screen when running around, while that longbow is on my back.
